This place has gone way downhill. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito. The picture will show it was a rolled up tortilla with a thin layer of beans smeared on it. As I tore pieces off there was a small clump of cheese at the other end. Husband ordered breakfast burrito said his potatoes were hard almost raw. We used the drive thru so can't comment on ambiance. Service was just okay, the ladies there now just aren't as friendly. read more

I came to give it another shot and still don't see why or what people like here. I got a stuffed sopapilla pretty common plate in Abq and there's was zero flavor to it. The red Chile doesn't taste like anything nor the green.l and not to mention my food was cold cheese wasn't even melted. Guess this is just a place that's not for me. read more

Enchilada Basket was COLD I also got nachos, and the chips were fried in dirty old grease and the cheese tasted like it was out of a can... My husband got a Tamale, and it was not good his enchiladas were also COLD, and his taquitos again were fried in old grease. I will never come here again. I used to get the taquitos here in the 90's and since then the food has gone downhill. Not to mention all the tables were dirty. Don't waste calories on this place! read more

The last two times I have bought chile rellenos here they were clearly reheated leftovers. I hate leftovers; I can always tell when I'm given leftovers so don't try and claim they weren't. I heard about Kathy's from a coworker. Once I found it, I was hooked. The first time here I had tostadas and tacos. I did forget to write a review and take a picture. This is a local South Valley favorite! They have a good thing going here. The building is well kept and outside seating area is maintained as well. Ate outside and enjoyed my food! I keep seeing locals suggest this place over and over on foodie pages and so I was lucky enough to stop by today and order some food. We ordered the large green chile cheese burger, green chile cheese fries, tacos and some sopapillas. You ever bite into something and it's just savory? That exactly how that tasting that burger was. It was savory! The chile cheese fries were good but could be made a little crispier. The tacos were like homemade and very delicious . The sopapillas were light and fluffy and everything was really inexpensive. The lady at the window was really nice. I would definitely come back here for more. Two thumbs up from me! read more

I'll give it 5 stars based on the reputation of the old building when I first came here. I remember I could get 3 bean and green and a couple of tostadas under 10 dollars. Probably can't do that anymore. Another sign things change Albuquerque changed. Old isn't always bad. They still have what I expect from kathy's. Never been disappointed. You don't go there for the service you go these for the food. I have never had a major issue with the service. My dad loves eating there. He always orders the huevos ranchero with red and green. And throw some chicharron cracking on top. Also top 3 bean Chile cheese burrito in Albuquerque. The people saying they were treated rude must not have grown up around older Mexican women. I recently noticed that the burritos they sell have less chili in them, I called and spoke with Kathy, she didn't seem to care and said that the 1 oz side container they use for chili on the side is the amount of chili they put. What's sad is we've been coming here for years for her to treat your customers this way. I told her I will not be going back and she said ok. Six years ago when I moved to the area I used to go to Kathy's once a week. Quality varied but was a good deal for the price and you could pick it up in the drive-thru (altho there were times when the line of cars made the wait seem endless); I gave them a pretty good review. They were alway friendly and knew who I was when I called in. At some point after the pandemic they raised the price of my favorite menu item from just under $7 to almost $12 without notice, so I didn't go as often. The last two times I went the food has been pretty bad, the refried beans were tasteless and seemed old and the rice had a really strange smell and taste, not the decent tomato-y stuff they had before. Ate most of the enchiladas altho the chile had a floury taste and I ended up throwing most of it away both times. I used to like going there but I don't know what happened and I'm going to give it a miss for a few months. read more

This place is great. In contrast to Gordon M's comment on the ambience, during the daytime it feels quite nice to me. Wide open, clean space, nice tile floor and counters, brightly painted pastel yellow and deep blue walls, and great wide-open picture wiindows in 3 directions. Yes, the tables are mostly anchored to the floor, fast-food style. I know it's not exactly "ambience", but the place just feels good to me. Clean, pretty, spaces, a non-corporate, homey feel, and tons of natural light with trees and sky and fall colors out the windows can do that to me, I suppose. : ) But of course, most importantly, the food is great, and very reasonably priced. 3 bean tostadas with a side of beans, chips, and rice for $4.50. Hard to beat that, even at Del Taco or Taco Bell. And of course it's much higher quality. And local! I'm not 100% sure that the refried beans are vegetarian, so you may want to ask about that or ask for whole beans if that's a concern. Salsa was delicious, if hot, spanish rice was perfect, tostadas were decent, and sopapillas were generously sized and excellent. Plus they got one of those Coca-cola freestyle machines so you can get almost any mainstream corporate soft drink you want, including caffeine-free diet coke, which I am unfortunately still addicted to (and helps cool the tongue down after the hot chile and salsa!) read more

I've only tried the carne adovada and egg burrito, but it was excellent. My dining companion was equally impressed. Some of the online reviews I've read seem to focus on how this is or isn't fast food, which I think is misleading. This is neither a chain restaurant nor is it a fine-dining sit-down experience. What started as a carry-out food business now has an indoor space for sit-in dining. If you're looking for fast, then by all means go to the Golden Pride drive-thru. Overall, the food is better and prepared with more care here. read more

I haven't been to this spot in a long time but I remember going in high school and it was delicious. Well I went today with the family and let me tell you nothing has changed I got the Taco Plate and they were made just like when my mom made them as a kid the wife had Tamales and they did not hold back on the portions they we're huge. The only downside is the prices have gone up but still a good deal for some great food! Would of gave a five star but the parking is small and some servers are real nice others not so much. But we'll worth it you can give me attitude all you want as long as the food is delicious haha. read more
