Life-changing care and unmatched precision I've been a patient of Dr. Kinney's for over 20 years -- and it's long overdue that I write a review. I first learned about her in my 50s, when I happened to meet someone at a gathering who told me Dr. Kinney had saved her vision -- she had been going blind, and Dr. Kinney's care literally saved her vision. That conversation stayed with me, and I immediately made an appointment. I'm so glad I did. At the time, I was dealing with constant eye strain from computer work and frequent headaches caused by even the slightest error in my glasses prescription. A previous ophthalmologist had recommended bifocals, but I didn't fill that prescription -- I knew something wasn't right. Dr. Kinney took a completely different approach. She carefully evaluated whether I was a good candidate for vision therapy, and I began sessions with Peggy. After just 10 sessions, my vision improved significantly -- and I never did need bifocals. Even more remarkable: my vision has continued to improve over the years, thanks to Dr. Kinney's thoughtful care. And she is the only ophthalmologist I've ever seen who consistently gets my prescription exactly right. I haven't had a single headache due to an incorrect Rx since becoming her patient. That level of precision, for someone like me, is everything. She listens, evaluates thoroughly, and gets it right every time. Dr. Kinney and her exceptional team are a rare find. I started going to Dr. Kinney two years ago and she was super helpful when it came to educating me about differet options for my eye-care. Overall the service was great and the staff was very responsive. The reason this isn't a five-star review is that she no longer accepts VSP (a major eye care insurance provider). This is a frustrating development and now I've decided to schedule my check up with a new provider. I personally don't want to deal with submitting forms to VSP. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Kinney for my routine eye care for as long as she's been in practice downtown (17 years). She's not only an excellent eye doctor but genuinely one of the nicest, warmest human beings I've ever met. She's responsive, engaging, interested and laughs easily. Who knew a trip to the eye doctor could be such fun? Her staff are very knowledgeable and skilled, and really go the extra mile to deliver great service. I wish there could be more stars for Dr. Kinney. I'm 41 years old, have a panoply of crap wrong with my eyes, requiring annual visits, and have only had two optometrists my entire life. One when I lived on the east coast, and Dr. Kinney for the last 15+ years. My eyes are my livelihood (as they are for nearly everyone) and I trust Dr. Kinney to be thorough, professional, kind, and generally awesome, which is is, without fail. If you need an optometrist, or are thinking of changing, you MUST go see her. Oh, and her staff, many of whom have been there over a decade, are so helpful, and love their jobs. I've been going to Dr. Kinney's office (right near the Market downtown) for almost a decade. I couldn't be happier with her or her knowledgeable staff. Dr. Kinney is kind, patient and professional. The selection of frames blows me away every time -- really interesting stuff (which is probably why I have so many different pairs; and they've all held up through years of wear). The woman who helps fit your frames (Natalie?) knows her stuff. She always helps me pick something that goes well with my face shape. I just can't recommend Dr. Kinney enough. read more

Impressive tests to help me with what she diagnosed as NERVE PALSY. Can't wait to start therapy on a weekly basis. The Palsy affects my gait and double vision when looking far right and left. She sounds hopeful I am a good candidate for the therapy, so i am also. read more

Dr Kathleen is an incredible doctor , she is very kind and professional and always takes time to listen . She is never in a hurry ! We have been going here for 7 years . I just moved here from Austin, TX and hated to have to find a new eye doctor so fast, but did to get new contacts. 1 of the best eye doctors I have ever met! Very gentle, very careful, very thorough. Her staff are also very nice. The lady who put some eye drops in my eyes were very careful, and she waited until I felt ready to accept the next dose of medication by allowing me to take my time. She also explained how the equipment she was about to use worked on my eyes before she did anything with it to keep me at ease. The ladies who worked at the front desk as well as the lady who worked at the eyewear shop were also friendly and super helpful and efficient! 5 star doctor with 5 star staff, and they made my visit very pleasant. Dr Kinney was kind for my 7yr old son's eye exam, but her office lied to us about having full coverage for the appointment when scheduling and then AFTER the appointment came back with our insurance card and said we had to pay in full right then. We were told upon scheduling that they were in network with our insurance 100% coverage and our card was reviewed. At the appointment the receptionist took our card and did not say a word about any change in coverage. However, after the appointment was finished she told us that they actually would not accept our insurance eye plan and we had to pay the full amount. Beware! This office is either tricking patients into coming by not revealing the truth about coverage or is totally inept at billing. However, the receptionist was prepared with a form that she gave us for our eye coverage to self submit and see if we get any out of network coverage, so I conclude that they knew the whole time! It is a shameful trick to play on patients with full vision coverage for a child! read more

One morning I woke up to find that I accidentally neglected to put away my contacts properly and they were irreparably damaged. It also happened to be my last pair, as well as a Saturday. I made some calls to the office, with no answer, but I called her cellphone, biting my nails thinking I was asking too much of her to answer her phone and help me out on her day off, but not only did she call me back right away, she was able to refer me to one of her colleagues that could help me out in the general vicinity. I went to their offices, was greeted by the charming Dr. Andrews, and they had a temporary pair waiting for me. In total, my problem was solved in less than 30 minutes. That's the efficiency and the grace that I look for in all my doctors. Needless to say, Kathleen is generally one of the best doctors I've ever had. She has the temperament, professionalism, the organization, the skills, the knowledge base, the personality, the team cohesion, and the humor that certainly qualifies her as a 5 star OD. I'm a tour guide all over Seattle, as well as a performer. Eyes are, needless to say, an essential component to my career path. I moved to Bellingham from Seattle 11 years ago and I still make a special trip down to see Dr. Kinney and her staff--Linde and Amanda have been there for yeeeears, and everyone there is great. They take so much time getting my glasses exactly right, I just wouldn't trust anyone else with my eyes. And the appointments are super fun because they all laugh a LOT.
