Katchmark installed new roofs and gutters on all of the town homes in my development. The process took a couple of weeks, and I found a few roofing nails in my driveway, but they cautioned us about that before the work began. Overall, I was very pleased with their service, especially their customer service! The same day the workers started pounding and working on my roof, my upstairs hallway light stopped working. I thought it might be something easy like blown bulbs, but all were found to be in working order. It seemed more than a coincidence that my lights went out at the same time as the work was being done on my roof, and decided to call my handyman to look into it further. He initially thought the problem might be in the boxes themselves and replaced both of the boxes, but the problem persisted. He suggested that when they were working on my roof, the vibrations shook the electrical wires loose in the junction box that holds the ceiling light. The light was located at the top of my stairs on the 3rd floor. It required a very tall, ladder, and a licensed electrician. I contacted my HOA about the problem (late Fri afternoon) and they forwarded it to Katchmark shortly thereafter. Katchmark's production manager, Jaime Vacarezza, promptly contacted me first thing on Monday morning! He said he never ran into a problem like that before, but told me to hire an electrician to repair it and he would take care of the invoice! That's exactly what I did - After the light was repaired, I sent the invoices from the electrician and from my handyman to Jaime. A day or two later, he handed me a check to cover both invoices . No argument, no threats, no meanness - it was a very civil, agreeable, even, pleasant discussion. Now, that's customer service!! read more

The new roofs were installed very quickly, and the crew did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards. The masonry work was also done well, repairs that another roofing company was unable to take on. I had a new roof installed by Katchmark a little over a year ago. During this recent rainstorm with non-stop torrential rain and very high wind gusts, one of the vent stacks started leaking water into my house. It was capped inside from a previous woodstove, but heavy rain gathered and finally caused the leaking. Ken Norton came out right away and said the wind was so strong that it loosened the cap. He fixed it and came back out a day later and readjusted it some more. After that, everything was fine! Thank you so much Ken! Job well done! read more

Katchmark just replaced the roof of my condo building two months ago, and we're dealing with multiple leaks. The quality of a roofing job is a combination of the products used and quality of the install. We used good products. I have no idea how this went so wrong. I have experience with roofers and roofing installs. This was a large job and costly, and they totally screwed it up. We're working with them to try and correct the issue. Everyone makes mistakes and if they come through and correct the job I will update this review. Honestly, we have a brand new roof and it's going to be a damned patchwork quilt. Enraging. I'll be telling every other property manager I know about this experience. If you need a roof, go with JGL. read more

Based on their onsite crew that is doing several months' worth of work in a condo community, be prepared for them to leave nails, screws, and random construction trash throughout the worksite. Also, know that they whistle towards women who are walking in and out of their homes. How disrespectful can you get? Maybe this firm is more tailored for a worksite that does not include residences. DO NOT use this company. The condo association for my development hired Katchmark to redo the roofs on all the buildings (about six or seven). Work started in October, and they are STILL here in late January. Here are just some of the issues we've witnessed in that time: 1. Our development has access to the W&OD trail. Katchmark decided to dump all their roofing materials for the job right near the entrance to the trail, partially blocking the entrance and absolutely destroying the lawn without a care. They've also destroyed part of the lawn in the complex that leads to the trail. 2. Workers have tossed significant debris off the roof, which almost hit me in the head once. Sometimes, the workers toss debris off the opposite side of the roof without looking below. They can also be slow to clean it up. 3. We had a cable hooked up to an unused satellite connection on the roof. Instead of removing it right away (as they promised to do several times), the workers kept moving it to the point where it crossed right in front of our door. After some persistent bugging, they finally removed it. 4. My fiancee and I slept poorly for several nights because of a loud rumbling on the roof. Apparently, the roofers just left a disconnected satellite dish up there, and the wind was blowing it back and forth all night. 5. I passed by a worker once who was standing and hocking loogies in my neighbor's garden. That same neighbor also had a problem with her heating/cooling unit, which we believe the workers shifted or tampered with on one occasion. 6. One time, I was sitting on my couch and looked up to see a worker glancing in at me through the hole in the upstairs window curtain. Maybe it was an accidental glance, but very creepy nonetheless. 7. The work looks sloppy and shoddy. I've never seen people work so long on a job that has shown such little progress. They have a ton of workers, so, even with the occasional weather setbacks, one would think it wouldn't take this long and/or it would look better. Generally, it's just annoying to have unprofessional people working in your development for three whole months, banging on roofs, stomping, shouting, hurling debris, blocking parking spots (not ours, but many others), and more without any idea when they will finish. At this point, it seems like they'll never leave. read more

Highly recommend if you want your property destroyed, a lackadaisical, uninterested attitude from the CEO, and thousands of dollars out of your pocket. TRASH company. Katchmark's inept workers flooded my condo while installing WINDOWS AND SCREENS on my condo building. After completely flooding both my condo and my upstairs neighbors condo with toxic fire retardant sprinkler water, our entire home had to be stripped to just wood framing and completely remodeled. I couldn't live in my home for 6 months and Steve Katchmark Jr offered up to 100/night at a hotel during demolition which is laughable in Tyson's Corner, VA. After 18 months I am finally done dealing with Katchmark and their insurance company to pay the complete bill, as they insisted on only paying 80% of it claiming they aren't responsible for actual cash, just depreciation. Also, after all this, they didn't even install the screen door correctly that they were replacing. It was upside down. In the end, I'm out $2000 dollars after 2 years of navigating their even more inept insurance company. $62000 dollars of damage + $20,000 of BNB rentals later, I don't suggest using Katchmark for anything other than as a horrible example of an honest, ethical contracting company. Would also like to add, the day my place was flooded, there was no apology from Katchmark himself, he just came and told me it would be taken care of and "unfortunately this happened last year" in my same community. Thanks for taking care of it, would rather have you take care of that $2000 missing from my bank account. My condo hired this company for a 3 MILLION DOLLAR RENOVATION and no one could seem to get me my last $2000. NIGHTMARE. read more

The incompetence and carelessness with which Katchmark is doing the work on my condo canNOT be overstated. They have: -Irreperably damaged a $200 mosaic table and LOST the pieces that they knocked out of it - how does one break three pieces out of a mosaic?! That takes skill. -Thrown multiple pieces of jagged wood with nails sticking out of them off the roof as I was walking by the NOT roped off area, just barely missing my head -Detached my wifi without any notification so that I could not run my business (I WFH) -Damaged my screen door so that I CANNOT OPEN it -Left multiple glass items tossed around on the balcony to be broken at any second -Damaged my hundreds of dollars furniture that is also a priceless family heirloom -Made my balcony FALL OFF MY BUILDING (not entirely and currently being propped up with studs, but wth. How does someone do that?? And the icing on the cake - they left a notice sometime after 9AM today telling people to remove items from the balcony before work was done - and then DID THE WORK ANYWAYS, before anyone could possibly have had a chance to see the notice. No 24 hours notice, let alone a few days, let alone even the freakin night before!!!! Every single thing about this outfit is a travesty. No longer in the DC area, but had a roof repair where I live now led me to a flashback when I had Katchmark re-do the roof on my former townhouse in the Hybla Valley area of Fairfax County, probably way back in 2010 or so. My memory is of finding them trough Washington Consumer Checkbook; long before I ever used YELP (if it existed then). Anyway, it went very well. I was having a few leaks on a roof that had be previously re-done in 1992 as a result of the builder using defective plywood that was treated for being flame-retartent. After 18 years, it was showing it's age. An estimator came to the house on a Saturday afternoon as I recall. He explained the process & what materials they were going to use. He said they'd match the shingle color, which I was reqired to have installed. The price excluded plywood & he explained that any defective pieces would be determined by the crew after they removed the shingles & tar paper. The shingles were delivered in front of my house the day before the job. The crew showed-up on time a scheduled, on what turned out to be a cold & windy early December day. There were maybe 6 guys on what I'd call a smallish two-sided roof (front & back). I recall asking the estimator about the installers if I'd be able to communicate with them. He told me that they were all Hispanic but that the foreman would know English, which was the case. I felt sorry for them working up there on that breezy day, but that sometimes goes with the turf. I was hoping that they didn't find too many bad pieces of plywood as I recall that a regular piece was about $60 & the FRT for the edges was maybe $70/piece. As it happened, they didn't replace any, so my estimate was the full cost of the job. I was glad because with some leaks, I'd have not been surprised if some needed replaced. And how would I really know; I couldn't really argue if they told me that my roof needed some new pieces, so I appreciated their honesty. Two areas that concerned me were where they had to take off & re-install an attic fan + a DirecTV dish. As far as I could tell, neither area showed any signs of leakage for the five more years I continued to live there. Their clean-up was decent enough with very little debris left in front or in back of my house. At this point, my experience was over eight years ago & I see a lot of complaints. Maybe ownership and/or management has changed, but I had a good experience using them for roofing. I think I had them out for an estimate to install an entry door a couple years later & used another contractor as both offered the exact same door, but the other company offered to do it for le$$. But if the price was equlaer, I'd have used them. read more

I had Katchmark replace roof, install gutters and fix siding. My experience was very poor, specially communication and follow-up. Before signing the work, I had numerous conversation with sale rep, and he pretty much promised everything. When work was getting done, nothing was communicated to workers. Also started making excuses for workers who cheated by not replacing attic roof fan. We also had workers showing up to our doors without any prior notice. Now we noticed one of the issue is not resolved, I am asking sale person to help us resolve it. He didn't respond to emails for days and now he is coming back and saying, he doesn't know how to fix it. I would recommend stay away from this contractor unless you want headaches and issues. read more

I had half my roof blow off my house during the DC windstorm in early March, 2018. I called Katchmark on Friday, after the roof blew off. They had an estimator at my house on Saturday Morning. New roof was on my house on the following Tuesday. They made me feel as though I was their most important customer. They were very responsive to emails. Before being sent the final invoice I indicated that I wanted to do a walkthrough of the roof. I found a couple of things that I thought should be corrected. This was on a Saturday. They had somebody out on Monday to handle my small issues. Katchmark is a large roofing firm that still maintains an ability to take care of customers. I selected them to do the emergency reroof because in 2007 I called them to come take a look at the roof that was on my house when I bought it. I had never had a flat roof before. The guy that came out gave me a whole rundown of stuff I should do to make the roof last. Total charge for consultation: $0.00. That made me think of them first when I was in a tight spot (think buckets and towels). read more

We received excellent service from the sales, installation and finance teams. In July, we installed a Timberline roof, gutters and new trim. The installation team is professional and offered good color/design advice. They showed up on-time and cleaned up afterwards. The subcontractors are friendly, neat and professional. Good email communications from their project managers as well. Any issues, questions, or inconsistencies were immediately addressed and repaired. As with all renovations, things come up. Overall, the job was done within the anticipated time frame and we did not receive surprise additional costs. We believe we got a deal financially, but a portion was paid for by insurance so always get 2-3 estimates on high cost jobs like a roof. read more

Everyone I talked to was very nice they showed up for the field measurement Vincent was very friendly got on my roof. I didn't lie I showed him the price that need to be beat or come very close to earn my business. I only will use companies that are on the manufacturer's approved contractors for piece of mind to know the job was done correct but I never got the proposal and what I don't understand how do you make a sale if you don't provide a proposal? So my only conclusion I could come up with are my job isn't worth there time or there price was so high and they knew they didn't get the job so they didn't send it. The only reason they got a two star was because everyone was friendly and they are approved from GAF. read more

Scammers and thieves. They repaired our leaking roof a few years ago and left nail holes in our roof which leaked rain into our ceiling, over 20 ft high. Now that area is black, smells very moldy and we have to run an industrial air scrubber until we can afford to repair the the ceiling again. We did recently call them out to take a look at the roof and for an estimate. They told us the board needed to be replaced since it "went bad" and that's what was causing the leak. Over $1500 was what we were quoted for the repair. We got another company to come out to give us a second opinion. That's when we discovered there were holes which looked liked were left by roofing nails, they took a picture and showed us, There was nothing wrong with the board Katchmark said needed to to replaced. They flat out lied to us knowing we weren't going to question them since we thought we could trust them. Now we're wondering if the cost to originally repair the roof a few years ago really needed to cost is $10,000 or did they scam us then too? It is something we may have to look into and possibly hire a lawyer. In the meantime we're sick everyday while the owner laughs his ass all the way to the bank. What a d***!! read more

I have been VERY disappointed with the customer service from Katchmark. Business with Katchmark was intitated back in August of 2017 and a two -three day job has taken 6 months, finally completed on 2/9/18 (I think, still waiting to clarify the latest debacle). Our attempts to have any resonable communication with the regional sales rep have been a total failure. We have been charged for services not perfomed as well as an $1100 dollar upgrade that we did not approve. I have been more than patient with our attempts to remedy this situation. The regional sales rep that we have had to deal with has been horrible and he has been outright disrepectful to my husband (I have emails to prove it). We have called your main office multiple times and no one has called us back. Katchmark is NOT a company that I would EVER recommend to anyone in the market for a roof replacement. read more

These guys did almost $10k in siding and gutter work for us. We were satisfied. We started having issues with a section of our roof. I discovered that the company who installed it is no longer in business. I contacted Katchmark last week to come out and let us know what needs to be done. Never heard a word. Unorganized. Two men rang my doorbell at 7:30AM claiming they were sent to work on the small rooftop above my door but I didn't hire anyone to fix our roof. They had a picture of MY house but with a different address. The men then went to our neighbor's house down the street (the house number listed on their paperwork) and then proceeded to sit in their car for nearly 30 minutes with a window cracked in 15 degree weather. Seems our neighbors did hire them now that they're working on the house, but it was very suspicious this morning watching them sit in a vehicle for such a long time in such cold weather with a window opened and knowing they had pictures of my home. read more

* Katchmark did a TERRIBLE job reroofing on my house in 2000 after a hail storm including new siding, gutters and downspouts. The sub-contractor they hired was not supervised nor was the work reviewed. The most important defect, failure to install the water shield in the valleys leading to a leaking roof. The owner's brother charged me over $900 to fix their mistake. There was also another earlier roof leak by a vent pipe. The other defects were almost as bad, including siding under a bay window that sagged and was falling off, a light fixture that was not attached to the house and sagging badly and the use of screws in the downspouts that rusted almost right away. There are other issues but I'll stop there. The Katchmark "salesman" was a bully. My wife had the same independent opinion of him so I asked for another represented to finish the project. Be careful, I believe he is still with the company. Recently, in May, 2016, a Katchmark salesman made an unsolicited stop at my house to discuss recent hail damage. I showed him the remaining issues with the previous work. He made no offer to include repairs while they were on-site doing new work. When I eventually selected another roofer for the job, the Katchmark representative got nasty saying he would get the attorneys involved though no commitments had been made to Katchmark. He also had other nasty comments. I will not be using them again and can not recommend them. They had many opportunities to make good on their mistakes, including May 2016, but chose not to do so. read more

Please note: I am reviewing this company based solely on their on-site crew. I live in an apartment complex and this is the company the owners of my apartment selected to install a new roof. We had been left flyers on our doors, informing us that roofers were coming and recommended we close our blinds. My problems started when the crew was lingering on their ladders, looking in my windows the morning the roofing was getting started. I quickly closed my shades, but left my windows open a bit for fresh air for my cat and dog. I GUARANTEE they saw my windows left open because of the amount of time spent on the ladder, just chillin' outside my window. But they didn't say anything to me as I left that day or they could have easily made a call to the leasing office, letting them know this would cause big problems for me so either I or maintenance could have closed my windows. There are only 4 apartments (2 levels) in the section of the roof they were working on, so it's not as though it was a high rise, where an open window would go unnoticed. Long story short - I came home to an inch of roof dust(?) on every single surface in my apartment. No exaggeration. It was the biggest cleaning job I've ever had to do. And I was breathing in so much crap, I burn with anger just remembering it. Beyond that (which made me immediately hate all of them), they needlessly took over the *entire* parking lot with their trucks parked in every direction, they oogled every female who walked past and I would arrive home to find them half-naked, hosing themselves off next to my building. Just really unprofessional, unfriendly and unimpressive. read more

We had Katchmark out to replace our roofs in 2007 and install two solar tubes and a kitchen skylight. They did a great job and provided me with a ten year guarantee on materials and workmanship. Recently I noticed some water in one of the solar tubes and a small leak in the bathroom ceiling near where the roof flashing meets the chimney. I called Katchmark and they had Adrian Guzman come out to inspect the roof the same week. He assured me they will be back out in a couple weeks to make sure the leak is fixed. Very professional and I am glad we spent a little more and went with Katchmark. I will let you know how the repair goes! read more

Just best to avoid this company. They did a fine job on my roof- but were sloppy on the finer details- i.e.: not cleaning sky lights after install (left their hand prints, stickers and drops of sweat all over them), they didn't caulk the interior of skylights and I had to push them to come back and finish the roofing because they were "short on shingles". they push you to refer them and when you do, their c-team shows up and customer service goes out the door. I'm completely embarrassed at how they're treating the person I referred to them. the job is still not done and they won't send a crew out to fix their shoddy work and complete the job. They claim they are calling the production crew- but they never show up. When they mess up the insurance claim- good luck proving it to them. They think you're holding the check and are to blame. I had to BEG for an invoice because insurance said that was what they were waiting on... Still took more than a week to get it and by then I was pretty upset at the lack of responsiveness. And here's the most annoying part- they're never on time. They don't mind wasting your time waiting on them. This last time, I waited 38 min after the appointment and it was funny bec they "pulled up" right as I "left the house".. Bottom line- save yourself the headache and embarrassment and go with another local company. read more

Gave them the address several days in advance and said pictures of the house were on Redfin. 4 hours before the appointment, which I had taken off work for, they called and said the job was "too far away". Katchmark deserve a high recommendation from us ( condo association in Gaithersburg) because they did a great job replacing the roof of our 4 storey building. The work was done in September/October of 2012, and the roof remain stable, intact and in good shape despite the strong wind and rains that Hurricane Sandy brought to the area. Steve Katchmark was easy to deal with and very knowledgeable. The work was done in a timely manner as promised, and the inconvenience to residents during the work flow was very limited. We had our roof replaced in April after the wind storm and used Katchmark construction. I highly recommend them. They replaced our roof in one day and did a beautiful job. The roof looks great! Their workers were very efficient, hard working and cleaned up everything. Steve and Jake were very nice, professional and super easy to work with. They answered all my questions and even with all the damage in our neighborhood our roof was one of the first ones completed. Katchmark installed our new roof and gutters the summer of 2016. After the winter, my neighbor remarked that he knew we'd gotten a new roof and what was wrong with the shingles on the left side of the roof as they were drooping over the edge badly. I called Katchmark in February 2017. The warranty manager was on vacation but they scheduled a crew to look at the roof a couple days after my initial call. The crew indicated that they didn't think the drooping was due to faulty installation of the roof, but likely due to a less than proper edge/trim install under the shingles and the droopy look was amplified by the heavier architectural shingles used n the new roof. I got on the roof with the crew and agreed there were no nail/screw holes in the space under the shingles that would indicate something removed but not replaced by Katchmark. They said it could be fixed but, and would pass on the information to Matt, the warranty manager when he returned to work. The roof was structurally sound with no leaks so no sense of urgency was needed. Matt called when he returned and I sent pictures of the roof edge. He came out with a crew and did another assessment. His response, summarized, was "This isn't something that occurred as a result of our installation, but it looks bad and it has our name (Katchmark) on it so we'll take care of it. The weather in March caused delays and in early April I received a call from Matt asking if he could send a crew out to fix the edge of the roof. They did and it looks great! Based on this experience I would most certainly recommend Katchmark to anyone looking for roofing work. read more

I had used Katchmark to put a roof on my parent's house, they were very good. Steve Jr. did my estimate which was a reasonable price and the work was done well. When it was time to have my own roof looked at, I called Katchmark and requested Steve Jr. again. He came out, told us what needed fixing and was going to email me a quote in the next few days. One week later I called to ask about the quote and he said he would send ot the next day. Another week goes by, I call again and left a message. Never heard back. Their first bid on our project was high, but the guy knew what he was talking about. I called two weeks later to ask about some the other product to hear their side of the story on their solution vs other solutions that were proposed (hadriplank vs. AZEK) . The salesman we talked to was no longer there and they were no longer honoring his quote---which was high. They sent another guy out there "who may have another solution". His solution was identical, BUT the quote went from $4,700 to $9,000--making it close to double the next highest quote we had. After 5 minutes of me balking, he did the salesman thing of saying he talked to his manger (so evidently he did this before he called me, but wanted to see if I would eat the 9K) and said the best he could do was $7,200--still much higher than the next highest quote for the same solution. read more

The owner Steve Katchmark came out to see me the other day and really wanted to help resolve the issue and I think he finally fixed the problem. We had a roof replaced by Katchmark after the hail storm. They were in the area , doing some estimates, and stoped by our house to see if we knew that we may be eligible to replace the roof through our insurance after the hail storm. After having them look at our roof, and doing some research, we decided to use them. They assigned a project manager. His name Stephan Kraemer cell 571 358 9065. He is great. Very polite, informative, quick to response, professional. The roof was installed without any problems. The crew was quick and professional. They covered our entire yard to make sure that there no damage. Stephan did an amazing job supervising the project. He came back couple times after the installation to nake sure we are satisfied. The roof has been installed couple month ago. We had couple of heavy rains and snow, and so far there no leaking or any other problems. Great job! Thank you read more

I have no rating for this company, but Yelp requires you to give a rating and mine would be a zero (0). I scheduled an appointment with them and I get a call from the estimate guy that he was going to be an hour late due to the client he was seeing before me just arrived and he would not be here for another hour. When I called the office to cancel them coming out all together they were not even apologetic about their technician being late. I was told in my call (when scheduling) that I needed to be home for the estimate to be done. The technician should have made other arrangement to go back to this client since they were not home at the time they were scheduled. They just lost a great sale on a whole new roofing and a great review. read more
