I was in the area and checking out restaurants for lunch. This place seemed like a small, potentially niche place so I tried it. Although I eat a fair bit of meat, I decided to try the vegan patty melt. It may be the best patty melt I've ever eaten! If I didn't know it was vegan, I couldn't have guessed it. The plant based meat had a great texture (hard to do for plant based meat), flavor profiles were spot on and the cheese and peppers added the right amount contrast of savory flavor. I feel like I need to go back tomorrow for another. Outstanding and the people inside were very friendly too!! read more

Fun self-service mostly outside seating. Excellent place for an informal brunch. Great food quality. Fresh, local ingredients.

Katalina's checks all the boxes for a great breakfast! My wife wanted to try it for her birthday. We arrived at 9ish, maybe 5 or six customers were there on a Friday morning. Chorizo Tacos - blue corn tortillas great breakfast taco served w/Mexican corn on the cob- Yummy! Hens-in-a-Basket-egg in toast -Very Good! Pancake Balls-Unique and yummy! Not greasy not too sweet, great texture-generous serving size! A place you want to tell your friends about! read more

Once I pulled into Katalina's parking lot, I felt myself take a really deep breath. Katalina's is that vintage-but-clean kind of place that you wish was in your town and in every town you've ever visited. Katalina's could make you move to Columbus, just to be close by. It is a tiny place where you order off of a huge chalkboard. It is an organized place where there are recognizable vendors and homemade concoctions, including mason jars filled with brewed tea. It is a peaceful place where, if you came later in the day, you could sit for a while. The blue floor tells an interesting story with its chips and scratches. I love that it is untouched. I had the reuben with chips. I wish I could have eaten a dozen other things. I miss this place. I want it to relocate to Chicago, but it just wouldn't be the same. read more

Good food! Seating is hard at this location so I wouldn't recommend coming with a group before than 4, especially on weekends. If you're looking for a bigger space with better seating I'd go to the Clintonville location. read more

Love this place. They use fresh, local ingredients. Service is always friendly. They have an amazing patio at both locations. I got the blt sandwich with tortilla chips. You can choose from sweet and spicy bacon or regular. I went with the sweet and spicy. Great flavor, but definitely has a kick to it. If you don't like spicy, I would stick with the regular. The sandwich was big and flavorful. Can't wait to come back. read more

I went to visit Columbus on a 2-day stint for a friend's wedding. I visited this place 3 times in less than 48 hours, not even joking. Normally, I don't rave about breakfast / brunch-y places because I feel like I could fix the same types of food for myself, for way cheaper, in my own home. But holy-pancake-balls this place is out of this world tasty, and has foods I either a) could not make at home and/or b) would not want to make at home because it would be such an arduous process. Also, my friend told me the pork and egg sandwich would change my life, and she did not lie to me. One of the BEST sandwiches of my entire existence. And all of the pancake balls I ordered were equally amazingly delectable; although dulce de leche was my favorite, hands down. Oh, and did I mention sweet and spicy bacon? Seriously you guys, if you live in or near Columbus and have never been here - shame on you! And if you're visiting, definitely a place to add to your list if you're a foodie and like supporting kitschy, local spots!! It's counter service, seat yourself - so it can get crowded on the weekends. But it's totally worth the wait and the staff are all super friendly and go out of their way to help re-fill waters, bus tables quickly, etc. read more

All around, this is a great breakfast place that is charming, responsible, and delicious. While some items can be a bit expensive for what you get, I promise it is worth it. Of course, the pancake balls are a major hit. I prefer them filled with Nutella, with regular bacon on the side. They don't even need syrup, because they are delicious, pillowy, and perfectly sweet. Potent coffee and ample condiments on the table. They have special items that are not often repeated, so I try to order them. I recently had the tomato "Tomole" soup, which was a combo of Chipotle peppers in tomato soup. It was thick and peppered with pumpkin seeds. They used to make a spicy hot chocolate which I still dream of - Katalina's, bring it back!! :) Sometimes there can be an extreme wait, so I recommend going at an "Off time" - 1 pm there is never a line. Sit outside while you can still enjoy the leaves falling! read more

Katalinas was not at all what I expected once I arrived, but man was the food good! I should have assumed from the "Cafe Corner" in the name that it was a smaller spot, but there are probably only 25 total seats inside. There's also a patio but on a cold fall morning like today, I doubt many will choose to sit out there. I was also surprised that you walk up to the cashier, order from their chalkboard menu, try to find a seat, and they bring the food to you using the number card they give you. I'm not sure why, but I expected a sit down restaurant with table service based on the reviews..no complaints here though! On to what's important: the food. It was outstanding! I ordered the pork and egg sandwich, and it was one of those meals where every part was outstanding. The "old world" bread was soft but also buttery and crispy on the outside. The pork was tender, the pepper aioli was spicy, and the eggs and provolone added just the right amount of flavor. It's also not a small sandwich by any means..I was really hungry but it filled me up! The service was also great in my visit. The cashier was nice to me, and she explained the best menu items to another guy who had never been before. My food also came out in 5 minutes at most (granted they weren't very busy yet). The prices are a little steep, but the quality is definitely top notch for food and service, so you get what you pay for. read more

Had the pancake balls (with pumpkin-apple filling) and a side of sweet and spicy bacon. Now the food was phenomenal and the bacon had a nice kick to it, but what cost it 5 stars was that this dish alone was $14. I was able to demolish it in under 3 minutes. Didn't fill me up, but was very good. Had takeout so not sure about the atmosphere. read more

I cannot believe this wasn't the first review I wrote when i got back from Cbus. It's not often that I have corn on the cob for breakfast... but Katalina's made me a believer. I ordered the breakfast tacos (tortillas filled with housemade chorizo, scrambled eggs, tomatillo, avocado, queso fresco, crema & pico de gallo). The tacos are served with a side of "Elote Cuban Cob Corn." If I could write a review solely of the Elote, I would. I don't know who Katalina is, but homegirl knows how to make some Elote. The Elote is coated with guajillo pepper, smoked paprika, cheese & Sriracha-lime aioli... I didn't notice the aioli or cheese on mine, but the pepper and smoked paprika was a fiesta in my mouth. The atmosphere at Katalina's was charming and full of character. On a nice day, the patio would be a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy brunch (or any other meal). Just a short walk from High Street (Short North), Katalina's is a must-visit in Cbus! read more

We ordered the Nutella pancake balls, the breakfast tacos, and the passion fruit and pomegranate orange juice. Everything was super delicious! The staff was really kind and friendly. I finally got to try out breakfast at KATALINAs and what a delight. I went yesterday (Sunday morning) around 11:00am. The line was starting to get long and my friend and I waited for about 20 mins to place an order. The line moved somewhat quickly. Waiting in line was expected because this spot is very popular and it isn't a big establishment. If you don't want to wait in line (which you WILL), then arrive exactly when they open at 8:00am. While waiting in line, I couldn't help but notice the colours and artsy feel of the place (inside and out). It was nice. Okay, let's cut right down to the chase -- the FOOD. I ordered the famous pancake balls filled with Nutella with a side of regular bacon. OMG, the pancake balls were delicious. Soft and mouth-watering. The sweetness of the pancakes mixed well with the saltiness of the bacon creates a nice flavour combination. The menu says it best: "Katalina's famous pancake balls: made with local stoneground Fowler's Mill flour, filled with Nutella, dulce de leche or Cooper's Mill pumpkin-apple butter. Served with pure local maple syrup & Katalina's Original Sweet 'N' Spicy Bacon™ or regular bacon. (Add Katalina's Original Sweet 'N' Spicy Bacon™ syrup .95) *Make it vegetarian with veggie sausage! " I can't wait to return to try another menu item. YAY :) read more

There was approximately a 30 minute wait to place our food order, which is usually a sign that the food is good. There was approximately a 15 minute wait for the food. The environment and atmosphere was lively though. A bright and colorful place to enjoy coffee or orange juice. The food was delicious but the portions were small. I appreciate places that buy local ingredients. The breakfast taco's flavor were well balanced. They had 4 different hot sauces if you want to add attitude to your tacos (like I do). The steak and eggs came out like tacos with the eggs being over easy. The sauce on them was great! The combination of the eggs, steak, sauce and steak was memorable. PROS: Tasty food with a lovely environment. CONS: Wait time, smaller portions. I do recommend this place for someone to enjoy delicious small bite to eat. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're REALLY hungry. However, I do recommend that everyone try this place at least once. read more

In the words of my 8 year old; "these are the best pancakes ever!" The pancake balls were fantastic and the coffee smooth. The service was inviting and loved the location. Establishment looked to be a very promising eatery. And it didn't disappoint. Wife had the pancake balls (awesome- I could have eaten 87 of them)! Daughter had the pork and egg sandwich- also delicious and I had the breakfast buttermilk chicken with egg sandwich. See my pics Also very good. Kinda of a hipster place. Being next to OSU, it was terribly crowded with very little sitting area. Eating here is a team effort. Somebody orders the food, and another person has to scout and nab a table! Additionally, the lines were a little long. If you like good food, a hipster scene, and you don't mind a wading thru a crowd; this is the place for you. read more

Breakfast this morning & it was the most ridiculously crowded place I've ever seen! Granted it was a Sunday morning, but still!! We had to stand outside in the cold to wait to order because there wasn't enough room. So take it both ways-super popular, but not big enough. Also, because of the size we had to take our food to-go without planning on it, as there wasn't anywhere for us to sit. And by the time we got home, our food was cold. Soc less than pleasurable experience. However, given the lovely magic of a microwave: we were able to enjoy breakfast steaming hot. I had the Southern Betty Balls, which was filling and salty, but also sweet. A weird concoction but still yummy, the side of apple butter made me the happiest. My sister had the vegetarian biscuits and gravy, the hash was DELISH & she had to try the dulce de leche pancake balls.... AMAZING. And my boyfriend had the pancake balls with Nutella, soooo good!! Overall, food was okay, but pancake balls were amazing. And the environment was small and loud and way too crowded for my liking. read more

This is my second time at this location and it is consistently delicious. It was definitely busy and hard to find a table but we could eventually. We do appreciate the rule that customers are not allowed to reserve tables until after they have ordered, because that definitely helps move people through the restaurant. Everything on the menu looks good. I had the chicken sandwich with an over easy egg and it slaps!! My sister had the impossible burger and she said it was good too. You must try the pancake balls especially if you're in a group! They have some with Nutella inside that are such a tasty treat. read more

Saturday's are for brunch. What better way to start your day? I can't believe it was my first visit! I've heard great things and even though I didn't opt for the pancake balls I still loved what I ordered. We split the breakfast tacos- (corn tortilla) homemade chorizo, tomatillo, pico de gallo, queso, avocado and snowville crema. The true show stopper was the Mazatalan Slow Roasted Pork and Egg Sandwich- aioli, peppers, provolone and secret sauce on toasted old world loaf. It came with a side of corn on the cob, which was cooked perfectly and seasoned well! The coffee was delicious and they had a cold or hot option. Nice patio and indoor seating. This is one of the top breakfast places around the downtown Columbus area without a doubt. The food is fantastic and fresh. The environment seems to always be lively and bustling. It's located in a fairly quiet neighborhood, which is mostly surrounded by homes. They do have some parking which is convenient. The main reason I've taken one star off is because this place is very small, and the crowds tend to form early in the morning and last till just after lunch. They do a decent job busing tables, but it is a place where you wait in line to order and then have to wait to find a table yourself. With little room between the tables, there isn't a lot of room to stand around and wait for said tables when none available. Being the go to brunch/breakfast place is great, but you also have to adapt over time to the crowds. I can only assume the owners have weighed the pros and cons here and have accepted that forcing people to wait uncomfortably outweighs adding additional seating which could make it appear less busy. To each their own. read more

We ordered the dulce de leche pancake balls, Ms Katalinas Migas, and the Mazatlan Sandwich. All were amazing and very big portions. Perfect for brunch. I met a friend here for a Sunday breakfast. I had the pancake balls with apple butter. They were warm and sweet. The apple butter filling was sweet and good. I found I didn't need the maple syrup at all. The bacon had a little of kick to it which was great pairing with the sweetness of the pancake balls. I had coffee here too. The coffee was smooth, flavorful, and brewed well. I got here around 830 and it was not busy. As I ate I saw it get busier but the wait was not too long. The tables also turn over quickly. I returned here the next week because I enjoyed it so much. This time I didn't have filling and wow, the pancake balls were still just as warm and yummy. read more

I was looking for a place to eat a relaxing brunch by myself with my book. This was my first time at Katalina's (it was the Harrison West one), and when I walked in, the staff were friendly and welcoming. One guy even complimented my somewhat wildly patterned pants. I was hoping to order something savory and then get a couple pancake balls on the side. Sadly, that wasn't an option--you have to get a full order or nothing. I was disappointed, but I ordered the vegetarian version of hens in a nest or whatever it's called. It's basically toast with the centers cut out so an egg can be fried in there. It came with blue home fries and veggie sausage. And I got a fresh OJ. The food was delicious if a bit overpriced, and I was pretty happy with my experience. Until they started cleaning up around me. They close at 3:00, and about 2:30, the staff started loudly discussing the trash situation. Then, around 2:40, they began spraying and wiping the counter next to my table and clanging silverware. The place is small, so I felt kind of trapped because there were like three staff members surrounding me, very close to popping my personal space bubble. I had been hoping to relax and read for another five minutes before heading out, but they succeeded in getting their apparent message across ("You're only welcome here until we're ready to clock out"). I left, feeling pretty peeved. Kind of a bummer for my day of birthday splurging and relaxing. read more

In all fairness, this place gets a 5 for ambiance. But, the paint pens and colorful umbrellas can't make up for over priced food. $40 for lunch for 2 is a bit steep; they don't even have servers. The food is good, but not amazing. You really need to sauce it up a bit. I got the pulled pork tacos and my son got the D'Ham sandwich. We loved the Nutella filled pancake balls with side of bacon, but even at the state fair, it'd be half the price. Go there to Instagram your food, but be prepared to pay up. read more
