We stopped by Kataki for the first time tonight and we loved it! It is great to have a sushi & ramen shop in the area. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated, and the servers were super quick and very friendly. We had three rolls and they were very tasty - Shrimp tempura, salmon family, and the kataki roll. They had a really fun variety of unique rolls to choose from. Prices ranged from $7-15 for the ones we tried which I thought was super reasonable for dinner prices. They even came with a cute little decorative flower, A+ for presentation. We also tried the miso soup & cream cheese wontons that were also great! We'll be back to try the ramen too! read more

My partner and I stopped in here for lunch. Very clean and tidy interior -- much of the furniture and fixtures are clearly new. Big windows let in a lot of natural light to make the place bright and pleasant. Service was attentive, cheerful, and polite. I ordered a hot green tea, a No.9 sushi roll, and a crispy chicken ramen. The tea was good. It comes in a little serving pot for refills, which was a delightful touch. The sushi roll was very tasty and came with what I felt was a good amount for the price. Very filling. I am a little bit disappointed. I had high hopes because it has good reviews. I would give it a 3.5 if i could but it's not 4star enough to push it up for me. The broth is straight up as it sounds. It definitely lacks the deep flavor notes in the ramen broth that leaves you craving more. The seafood wasn't hitting the spot for me. It has good noodles and a starting base for a broth. The chashu was sweet and smokey (juicy). The chicken Katsu was good flavor but on the thin side leaving you wetting the palate so to speak. Green Tea is a simple tea packet. Wow. Just wow. Looks like it's in an old Wendy's. So nondescript. It's probably the best sushi I've ever had. I've eaten sushi on the east coast (NY, CT, FL) and West Coast (CA), and this tasted so incredibly fresh. Everything was so so good. read more

My bf and I stopped at Kataki looking for some food to fuel us! We arrived around 7:30 pm on a Sunday so the restaurant was quiet. They offer a large parking lot and from the outside you can see some great artwork on the windows of the building. Kataki offers a relaxing setting, with its clean space and gentle music in the background. Our waitress gave us some time to look at the menu before we started our meal off with miso soup. I always love miso soup and this was just the same! I ordered the Godzilla roll as our waitress said it was her favorite and my bf ordered fried chicken ramen with pork broth. The Godzilla roll was great! It came with spicy Mayo and unagi sauce AND was deep fried. How can that be bad! My bf also really enjoyed his ramen and ate every last drop. I placed a pick up order here at 12:47pm and it said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived at 1:00pm and she said it would be a few minutes, which was okay since I was early. A few more minutes go by, she came back out and said it was going to be a few more minutes. She was nice and offered me a glass of water while I waited. Another 10 minutes go by, and she brings out my order. I ordered 3 rolls. The restaurant only had 2 tables and one of the tables had already finished eating... so it wasn't really busy. - Boston Roll (5) - was supposed to be 6 but they jipped me on one of the rolls. - Sweet Potato Roll (6) - Spider Roll (8) The spider roll was awesome 4.5/5 Sweet potato rolls were one of the best I've had 5/5 Boston roll 2/5 The Boston roll had very little flavor, it was like 80% lettuce, and they also only gave me 5 instead of 6. I think it's a bit pricy for the specialty rolls. My total was supposed to be $27 but I got a 15% discount for being a first time customer so it ended up being $23 The discount was really nice. I really wanted to try some of their other specialty rolls, but the count is only 8 and all of them were $15-$25 For the basic rolls you are paying $1-$2 per roll plus some because of tax. The restaurant was super cute, very small, but I liked that they had a little bar you could sit up on and watch the workers make the rolls. It was dark inside but was nice. Overall I probably won't be back unless I happen to be in the area. I really prefer Kai sushi in chanhassen and Minnetonka. read more

Love this place. We were heading home from the galleria and didn't feel like cooking. So, we found Kataki on google and bass on reviews decided to order on the fly. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes and was packaged in a way that broth was separated from the noodles, veggies and meat. It stayed hot until we got home. So tasty! Kataki is a great little shop south of Minneapolis with a casual atmosphere. I ordered their Tonkotsu Ramen and Sexy Girl Roll. The ramen was nothing to brag about. The broth was light and lacked some flavor, and the pork belly was on the smaller side of portion sizes. The roll was delightful! I thought it had the heat and crunch that a Sexy Girl Roll should have and was pack full of flavor! The service was good for me being the only one there for a late mid afternoon lunch. This restaurant is only two weeks old and I adore it already! From the outside you think "hole in the wall Asian restaurant." But inside it has brand new carpeting, brand new booths, brand new everything. The wait staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I'm a pain in the butt about "no sugar, no deep-fried, no caffeine," and they walked me through the gigantic menu. We ordered chicken Ramen which I would not order again, it was basically Ramen noodles a few vegetables and then breaded chicken which I wasn't expecting. But the sushi, oh the sushi! To die for! So beautifully plated, so beautifully accessorized, I really don't know how to talk about sushi, but it also tasted delicious! I also drank about two pots of their green tea, and it didn't make me caffeinated. The parking lot is huge, very much plus for Richfield. They were disappointing, with a heavy-weight batter, not a typical tempura batter, which is much lighter. The onion ring was quite large, which is more awkward for handling. Two thinner slices would have been much better. Kataki is definitely for the typical MN palette. I'd be willing to go again to try their sushi, but I don't expect to return. read more

Sushi in Richfield? I have travelled a lot in Asia and was looking for a decent sushi spot in the twin cities. I found one. Kataki in Richfield, close to the Minneapolis border, is the real thing. My wife and I visited and were not disappointed. It is an independent restaurant, clean, and offering a vast menu. We had soup, apps, beer, sake and the sushi and sashimi combo. The fish is top notch, melt in your mouth good. The wasabi is the real stuff, made from the wasabi root. Prices are close to what you would pay at your local supermarket and the quality is the best I have had in the U.S. Give this place a try! read more

Second trip to Kataki was just as good as the first. Went all sushi first visit and opened up to udon the second visit. The gyoza are legit; not deep fried like fake Japanese joints. The sushi was spot on. The hotate (scallop), and maguro nigiri were perfect. This place isn't too busy and the service was 1000% attentive. Miso soup was as if you were in Japan. The beer selection was small but excellent. Try the Bauhaus brew labs Lounge Lizard for clean pale ale that isn't too pretentious. Don't let the casual ambiance steer you away. I really enjoyed the food, but this is about the slowest service I've ever had at a restaurant. We were a table of four and were there for 2 HOURS (no exaggeration). We started with four appetizers and received 3 immediately. The fourth came about 25 minutes later. We sat for about 45 minutes before our 6 sushi rolls arrived. They were apologetic, but you'd think they'd offer to take off at least one app off the check, especially when we spent $175 after tip. We're a big sushi family and Richfield locals. Location/Ambiance A small stand-alone building in an odd location. I didn't go into the bathroom but someone in our party remarked on how nice it was. Interior seems recently renovated, as some other reviews mentioned. Food The food was great (sushi and ramen options, fried noodles, fried rice, teriyaki options too). Someone in our party wanted "plain" sushi - so not like the fancy rolls with a lot of toppings. They were pleased to find a "plain" sushi/roll option (called Tuna/Salmon Lover where you choose tuna or salmon) and it came out, with wasabi and pickled ginger. It was a large amount, too. Success there. I ordered a ramen and was pleased to find it had a LOT of noodle. Busy/make a reservation? We went on a Friday evening and made a reservation for 5pm since we weren't sure how busy it would be. Five was definitely early - there was nobody there. But soon people rolled in and it became busy. Parking They have their own parking lot. If for whatever reason the lot is full, it's right next to another parking lot. read more

I drove past this new restaurant (new owner - 4 months) a few times but have not stopped to try. Formerly, was a Vietnamese restaurant. Great and fast service. Food was so fresh and with flavor. The ramen cooked to perfection. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. I came around 1:30 and was the only person in the restaurant. Sad face.
