To start, we tried the hummus and some cocktails: Hello Again (yum), Blood Orange Marg (so good he went for 2), and a New York State of Mind (and he enjoyed his so much he went for 2). FYI - The red "sauce" on the hummus is spicy. For brunch / lunch we got the avocado toast (yum), breakfast taquitos, and an egg sandwich with hash browns on the side. The avocado toast was great. The taquitos only come with two, but they were good. The egg sandwich is small, but they enjoyed every bite. No home made pasty today. We were told the homemade cookies were chocolate chip. They were chocolate chunk with peanut butter. We got two. They were good, however you need to tell people that they have peanut butter in them. We will be back. read more

If you haven't been to Karrikin in the past, I can't wait for them to fully open to the public so you can fully experience the space as I did in the past. Karrikin is a Cincinnati based craft distillery and restaurant in Fairfax that has a wonderful selection of spirits, sodas, beer, and food all crafted in house. The craft sodas are all caffeine-free and have some fun flavors in addition to the traditional cola. Their hard sodas mix together these sodas with some of their spirits and those are available on draft and in cans. They have also started canning a couple of the beer offerings. The spirits are made on the largest copper pot still in the state of Ohio. These include vodka, brandy, gin, rum, and agave spirits. The keylime sparkling spirit was a quick favorite of ours, and their citra IPA is solid! Their food is also really good and most of it is set up for sharing. On our first visit, we just had the cheese board with local  Urban Stead cheeses, nuts, and bread. While you can still get delivery or carryout from Karrikin, the full experience inside the open distillery and restaurant should not be missed! read more

I had no idea what to expect about this place. My first exposure to Karrikin was at another establishment that had one of their sparkling spiked drinks on tap. Let's just say it was not my style. At all. Like, really, not at all. But I wanted to give the full experience a try after hearing a number of really good things about the beer and the food, and boy am I glad I did. On this particular Saturday, the place was packed. We opted for a seat at the Kitchen Bar, which turned out to be pretty cool, and a great seat for a first timer, as we could see all the various plates coming out of the kitchen (sneak peek - I'm going to have to come back for the Hanky Panks). We started with a flight (3 5oz pours) of beers and a matching flight of their sparkling cocktails. On the beer flight, we had the El Dorado IPA and the Citra IPA, as well as a rotating dark lager. The Citra IPA can go head-to-head with the best in town in my opinion. The dark lager was well balanced and a good example of this style - not too heavy on the roasted flavors. The El Dorado fell a little short, but was a plenty drinkable beer. The sparkling spirits were a little bit more challenging. The Key Lime version with the agave spirit was enjoyable. We also tried the seasonal Concord Grape and a new Orange Blossom, both of which feature their "Ora" Gin. I'm not sure if it's the underlying gin or what, but both of these feature a profile that I'm just not into at all. As a note, I'm a fan of several gins from classic profile like Tanqueray as well as more floral examples like Hendricks, so it's not just the flavor of gin I'm not enjoying here. What made this a clear 5-star was the Pork Belly entree. I love pork belly. I like to try it anytime it's on the menu, so I've probably had a dozen or so different pork belly preparations. Since my previous favorite pork belly sandwich from Rookwood is no longer an option as that establishment closed several years ago, this is the clear #1 spot for me. Cooked on their open flame wood 'fireplace', the perfectly seasoned crust on this thick cut of pork belly was a perfect complement to the pork. My particular cut had the perfect balance of meat and fat that is the signature of pork belly. The quick pickled vegetables on top provide a clean cut through the fatty nature of the pork belly. Absolutely perfect. Perfect size plates give you an opportunity to have a meal without being overstuffed, and at a fair price. Service was friendly and attentive. Margaritas were pretty good, the flight was one heck of a deal...$6 for a flight of 3! Only thing I didn't like was how loud the trivia was. I do need to mention we went here initially as there was a Facebook 'event' saying there was some kind of goings on. When we got there there wasn't really any kind of organized thing at all. Instagram worthy! Super cute building and drinks. Yummy food. High prices. Not your average, "let's go grab a cheap drink" type of place. This is a 'put your nice jeans on' distillery. Although all are welcome in any way, shape or form; it is a little bit classier than most brewery type places. I'm a gin drink so the Babe with the Power cocktail was pretty dang good. Aesthetically pleasing with a bright purple color and dried pea flower on top. It was a good drink! Hubs got the bourbon Vanilla Coke with shuga (rum) and he also enjoyed it! I'm not a big rum drinker but I did sample some of his and it was good. Vinegared fries with aioli really hit the spot and came out within a few minutes- super quick! They're crispy and delicious! Will keep this spot in my back pocket when I'm looking for something in between typical bar and 5 star restaurant. read more

The only thing wrong with this place is the hours - it's not open enough! The beers are phenomenal craft brews and they have many spirits (and therefore many cocktail options). There is pool and darts and just enough TVs to watch the big games. Pretzels and wings are made in house. There is also a great outdoor area where you can enjoy a pint with your pup. In love with this newer hidden gem near Lunken Airport and Mariemont. Id never have known it was here, but a friend told me about it and we went there for drinks after work on a Friday. We sat at the very spacious bar and were greeted by multiple helpful and sweet bartenders. There is really something for everyone here from their signature hard sodas, to cocktails made with their house made spirits, to draft beer, and even wine. I started out with the Bourbon Vanilla soda which was really good! We then realized it was National Margarita Day, and quickly switched to the Un Poco Loco which was AMAZING! I could live off this drink! We shared the baked cheese curds, which was recommended to us by the bartender as her favorite. It was excellent, but could have used more dipping bread. I love the atmosphere here. Although it is in a warehouse type building, it really feels upscale. The parking lot is large. There is the bar seating area, large high top tables... some big enough to fit a large group, small dining tables, and couch like seating areas. My head hurts trying to figure out how and why this place has good reviews. Sampled a couple of their house liquors- all were rejected by all of my friends. The charcuterie was sad for $16, so was the local cheese tray for $12 - sad size. Charcuterie was Pate, salmon, and some pork. Two were "salad" style with mayo. There was no beef, salami, bacon. The Brussel salad was too tart and soggy. The cheese curds were not curds. Tasty but super greasy. Cauliflower was okay- prob the best thing we got. The wait was way tooooo long! We chose to Harvest Host here last night and I'm so glad we did. It was music bingo night which was a blast, food and drinks were great, and the service was like no other place I've been! Heather and Andy were so friendly and accommodating! We were sitting outside most of the night and they came to check on us often and bring our pups water. To only have been open a month, I was surprised by how many reviews this place had so I wanted to check it out for myself. It did not disappoint! As some have said, it's kind of tucked away but not too hard to find. It's a HUGE venue with a large parking lot, so it's perfect for big groups. It's broken into a few different parts so you can choose whether you'd like a more intimate experience (Lounge) or party (main room). The spirits list is long, but beware they're only serving light liquor currently since darker hues take awhile to age and they make it all in house. I really liked the unique flavor combo of the Tabby and Timmy. We had a variety of menu items, all served tapas style, but the Baked Cheese Curds (sort of their take on queso) is a standout. The shaved Brussels sprouts were also tasty with a zesty kick. The Take 5 pie is a great dessert, though the waiter recommended the carrot cake. What a cool place... a bit out of the way but so worth it. We started with drinks, margarita flight that included the un poco loco, watermelon and blood orange. The lovely Mrs ordered the interactive forever in blue jeans. Of all of these we tried, the un poco loco was our favorite. They were all very tasty but this one was a prefect blend of favors. So for food, we shared the meatloaf melt and that sixteen bricks sourdough bun was amazing. That seems to be a pattern as we eat our way around Cincy. I really need to make a planned visit to 16 Bricks. The meatloaf melt was incredibly tasty. The fancy sauce was a perfect condiment with the peppery meatloaf. The service was very attentive and very friendly. The inside of this distillery is quite the eye catcher with the colors chosen, the distillery tanks, the booths, the gargantuan chandelier and it's all very tidy. Ended up buying a bottle of blaze(tequila?) and have used it on my own margaritas made here at home. We will for sure go back. If you haven't been? There is not something I don't like about this place. Karrikin beat all my expectations for decor, food, and drinks - everything was absolutely perfect. Upon arriving we were asked where we wanted to get seated as we were ordering food - we opted for the kitchen bar - a beautiful marble table-top with high-top chairs and cute settings. The kitchen-bar is nice, but honestly you're not watching too much action in the kitchen as there are shelves that block the view and the chefs clearly pre-prep a lot of the dishes. I would recommend sitting at one of the regular dining tables or on their cute couches (tables are small tho!) if you are planning to order food. We started with flights of their drinks - I opted for the Sparkling Spirits Flight which was 3 5oz pours for $8. I tried the Key Lime, Hoptonic and Blueberry - all of which were good, but the Key Lime was amazing. They are most similar to White Claw/Truly Seltzers but a little less carbonated. My boyfriend got the Beer Flight of 3 5oz pours for $6 and tried their Citra IPA, the El Dorado IPA and one beer from their rotating selection. He surprisingly liked my sparkling spirits better than his beers! This led us to getting another flight of the sparkling spirits to share - we tried the Apple, Bourbon Vanilla Cola, and the Punch - the Bourbon Vanilla Cola was our favorite in this flight. They had a couple other sparkling spirit flavors we did not try, but after these 6 tasting, definitely need to. The food is tapas style - but they are large enough portions you could eat them yourself as well. We had the Roasted Cauliflower ($6) and WOW. This was almost life changing - the cauliflower was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the fried wild rice that came with it was so crunchy it was the perfect addition to the dishes' texture. Adding in the pickled onions made it even better - I could eat this every day. We then opted for the Hanky Panks ($8) which was sausage with cheddar on rye toast - these were also very tasty and a good complement to the cauliflower. Lastly we had the Carrot Cake for dessert ($8) which was just heavenly. I do not think I've had a better Carrot Cake ever full of flavor and different textures with the added raisins/nuts - I also enjoy my cakes cold so I loved that the massive piece was got was chilled. Drove by this place a bunch and never knew it existed until we saw an add for the craft whiskey/bourbon festival. It's tucked away in Fairfax and the event was awesome! For this to be a bar/brewery, they have some amazing food! I saw one of my followers from Instagram mention this place and wanted to try it. On a Saturday afternoon my family and I needed somewhere to eat so we decided why not Karrikin. I'm so happy we did, the food here is really good. It's not your typical bar food. It's actual dishes put together in a true culinary fashion. I also loved the bar area. It's very spacious and open with the brewery in the back. It's pretty cool. All of the staff was extremely nice and helpful. There was about 4-5 people working the bar area (because their bar is long) and every person asked if we needed something at a different time. We had amazing customer service. We sat at the bar and it was perfect. My husband started off with an old-fashion and my daughter and I had mocktails. I had the Blood Orange Shrub which was blood orange and rosemary and my daughter had a Key Lime Karrikin Craft Pop. Both were good. My drink was different with a hint of rosemary but still tasty. My daughter was super excited about her big girl drink (because normally I never let her have soda). She was tickled pink. Also, what I love about this restaurant is that it's tapa style. I love tapa style restaurants. It's a great way to be able to try multiple dishes at once. Also, all of the dishes we tried were all really good. We had the following dishes: WHIPPED QUARK -- quinoa granola, pickled shallots, sourdough. This spread was ahhhmmazing! The cheese was the perfect creaminess and the quinoa was the perfect crunch all on top of grilled sourdough. So good! SPRING LETTUCES -- pickled fennel, ramp vinegar, cheddar. This salad was super simple but very flavorful. My husband even mentioned this was the best salad he has ever had, and he is a Caesar Salad person. It was fresh light and yummy! VINEGARED FRIES -- pimenton aioli. Even though the name suggest maybe a strong vinegar taste, this is not the case. These fries are pretty crispy and yummy. They are vinegared before they are fried, so once fried it cuts the vinegar taste. It pairs nicely with the aioli. FIREPLACE CHICKEN & GNUDI -- charred carrots, green garlic, pecorino. This dish basically tasted like a homemade chicken stew and dumpling. It was flavorful and yummy. VERLASSO SALMON -- basmati rice, ham, cabbage. This dish was very flavorful. The salmon was cooked perfect and the skin was nice and crispy. I usually never eat the skin on a salmon, even if it's crispy and this day I did. The rice, ham mixture was also very tasty and paired well with the salmon. The cabbage added the perfect crunch. Yummy dish! CARROT CAKE -- Carrot Cake is my second favorite cake behind Red Velvet. They have an amazing Carrot Cake. It was spiced well and the frosting was nice, fluffy and creamy. The only down fall here was they didn't have any ice cream. This would have been perfect. I love cake and ice cream. Yes, this Carrot Cake had nuts in it. Overall, my family and I really enjoyed Karrikin and will definitely come back. It took me a very long time to finally make it to Karrikin, ever since they opened up I was intrigued to try their homemade spirits. I finally had the chance to experience it and I was unsure of what to expect location-wise because based on the pictures I've seen it looked like the whole place had communal tables, sadly I'm not a huge fan of those because it lacks privacy unless of course you taking a big group of people, only then it becomes very convenient. I've read it was hard to find but I didn't have any issues finding the place, it has a huge sign and even though it is nowhere near a busy area you can find it right away. Moving on, you walk in and everybody seems friendly, space is enormous so no worries if you don't have a reservation. They asked where we wanted to seat and we picked a small table near the patio, I was very glad it wasn't all communal tables! they do have those in the front bar area, but they have small tables on the other side, and they also have couches in the very back with coffee tables right in front of the bar, and even better they have outdoor seating. The service is quick, I can't say I had the best waiter because of he just kind of mumble the whole menu in 2 seconds, but he wasn't all that bad. I like that they have the devices that allow you to type in the order and pay right on the spot instead of waiting around. Moving on to the more important aspects, the food and drinks are astonished, I doubt you'd be disappointed. To drink we had the Mi Scusi and Un Poco Loco, I loved th drinks they were tasty and not watery at all, we even ended up buying a small bottle of the Base spirt. As an appetizer, we had the shishito peppers and trust me they're delicious if you are a fan like me you must try them, as for the entrees we had the Roasted Cauliflower and the Plancha Spanish Octupus, no disappointment at all, one of the best Octopus ive had, and the prices for their entrees are more than fair. There is so much to love about Karrikin. If you're serious about delicious food, this place is a must. Tucked away in Fairfax (between Mount Lookout and Mariemont), Karrikin turned an enormous factory space into an impressively warm blend of industrial concrete and wood. There are plenty of community tables, bar seating, regular table seating, and lounge-type seating in cozy clusters of colorful couches. The staff is incredibly upbeat, friendly, and work very hard to service such a big space. On that note, don't come for a quick bite, because that is not the experience to have here. Karrikin boasts of all house made food and drink, from beer to spirits to hard sodas (and even mocktail list). If you are indecisive like me, you can get a flight for $8. But arguably the best part- the food. Be ready to spend a little more because it's tapas style and you are going to want to order everything. Because it is just so good. I've loved every bite I've had, all of which have been uniquely flavored, fresh, and can only be explained with a blissful sigh. To name a few favorites: the cheese board, roasted cauliflower, Firehawk burger (I'm not even big on burgers), the jicama cucumber with lump crab... I'm not sure you can go wrong here. Breweries are popping up all over Cincinnati, but a distillery is a little hard to find without having to go across the river! I recently came with a group and I was pleasantly surprised at how big their drink menu was! They have a lot of base liquors to choose from, and they all sounded really good. THEN, they of course have the cocktail menu which uses their house liquors. If I'm not mistaken, they have their own beer and wine list, too! A little something for everyone. The feel of the place is pretty cool. First of all, the space seems huge. They have their distilling towers on display, too, which provides something fun to look at while you drink. I will say, though, that turning onto the street that it's on makes you feel like you took a wrong turn. It's past a few warehouse-looking buildings. I'm giving them 5 stars, but if we could take a half point off, I would just because this drink I got had the fruit sticker stuck to the inside of the glass. I was basically done with my drink at that point but I couldn't stop thinking about whether or not it's a common practice for bars to wash fruits like oranges and limes before they use the rinds for drinks lol!! read more

I want to like Karrikin but I'm not sure that I do wholeheartedly. Let's weigh the pros and cons, shall we? Pros: - It's a HUGE space so you never need to worry about getting a table (or at least, I haven't). - It's also a cool quirky space. Warehouse-y like Madtree or Rhinegeist, but with lots of plants and some homier decor touches. - I like that you can grab a seat and someone will serve you--no fighting to the front of the bar. - The food menu is pretty good for small plates. Get the grilled bread, quark or fries. Never had a meal here. - They really are trying to please everyone, with beer, wine and craft sodas in addition to their home brewed spirits. - The sparkling spirits are pretty good and unusual; not sure I've seen this elsewhere. The cons: - The location is strange--you might not find it unless you know where it is. - The patio is one long narrow strip along the side of the building and some seating out front. Just kind of an odd setup. - I've yet to be super impressed by a cocktail here. I've tried both gins and the rum in drinks and haven't found my cocktail yet, I guess. Drinks also don't seem all that strong. - Had one very odd charcuterie board experience. There was some good cheese and some kind of sausage-y meat but then this weird tuna salad concoction. I thought it was going to be tuna tartare or something but, no, cooked tuna that tasted canned mashed up with seasonings. Not great. Four stars because it is a good, pleasant place to get a drink and a snack (usually). I'd recommend a sparkling spirit over a mixed drink. Each course was a masterpiece, perfectly paired with the corresponding cocktail and delicious. The event was worth the price tag. Staff: Each person we encountered (Hostess, to owner, to Chef, waiter, to Marketing) was friendly and extremely caring and self-less. Arrived on a Wednesday night and was very impressed with what I saw. The distillery is large but welcoming with several dining spaces under one roof. You can totally bring your family or your friends! The kitchen offers a neat view at the chefs counter where you can sit and watch the talent prepare your meal! The food is REALLY fresh and really flavorful. The ingredients used in the dishes I ate favor what is seasonally available, and I think this keeps the menu prices low because everything is priced really fairly. First time here and it was a great experience. We had the baked cheese curds, the burger and the scallops. All of them were delicious. We're also had the spirit flight with the Base (vodka), Shuga(rum), Blaze (tequila), and Press Apple (brandy), all made in house. The service was good and the food was great. I'd recommend this to anyone and I look forward to coming back. read more

Hidden away in Fairfax, Karrikin Spirits is a great secret find! They have food and beverage, and also make their own beer and spirits. The food smelled and looked amazing, but we only had drinks. We tried variations from their cocktails, mimosas, and beers. One of my favorites was the mimosa flight, where the blood orange mimosa really stood out! My husband really enjoyed the Citra IPA. Fun place, good vibe, WITH food and drink all for the win! read more

This is my first experience eating outside since the state has opened up since the start of the COVID pandemic. I wish I had been able to experience Karrikin in the way it used to be, but we must get used to this new normal. Our temperatures were taken at the hostess table. That was also where we scanned the touchless menu QR code. That was such a great way to cut down on potential surface contamination. I did not there were people seated inside, without masks but we wanted to sit outside. There were several tables (picnic style) set several feet apart. Most of the tables were under cover. The menu QR code was also taped on the table. Wait staff all wore masks and there was a station outside where we could throw away our trash and recyclables as well as place dishes in a bin. They also had their own house made sanitizer out for our use. Now, to the food: I ordered the Caesar salad and Grilled Mahi. My friend ordered the Coal Roasted shrimp. She said it was really good, there were large pieces of sourdough croutons in the meal. It was small; great for an appetizer. She also had the Jump in the Line. She enjoyed the coconut-ty taste. Although, run was used, we learned that the vodka is made from corn. My appetizer was the salad, though large (I shared with my friend). It was delicious! I am a pescatarian and doing keto so I was concerned about the dressing. I also learned the egg was picked in beer brine, but I threw caution to the wind! It was presented so beautifully! The dressing had heavy anchovies and was delicious. The salad had cheese crisps that were a great addition to the texture of the salad. The Mahi was topped with veggies and had a few peppers that gave it the right kick, without making it too spicy. The yogurt and green peppers added flavor to the fish; which was a touch dry but still very tasty. The meal comes with naan bread, which I had wrapped to go since I'm on keto but it was a nice size! We sat and talked and they didn't rush us out. I enjoyed my first experience at Karrikin and I'll be back, if for nothing else but to get the Caesar salad to go. Right now, this is a good place to eat outside and social distance in comfort. read more
