Good beer selection at a nice bar. The appetizers were pretty filling for me and my partner. It was really cool to see the bank vault turned into a seating area away from other people when the bar gets noisy. I noticed that they have trivia every Tuesday and paint nights every once in a while. I also loved how they made popcorn in a popcorn maker. read more

I have a really soft spot for the old location. We took our French bulldog there a couple times and for his birthday (they even gave him a Bad Tom bandana). Also I had a surprise 40th Birthday party for my Mr. Last thing, I miss the vintage vinyl player we used to play every time we visited. When I heard that they opened a new location in Madisonville, I was happy that it's closer to home and I knew the inside is going to be spacious. Plus this location has more beers on tap than the old spot. When we walked in, the first thing I noticed was the bank vault. Fits in with the brewery. So bright, nicely decorated, plenty of seating/TVs, and a lounging section if you want to play board games. They are still pet friendly and this time they have a kitchen! Simple menus for both drinks and food. If you are not a beer person, they do have wine and their own signature bourbon. My stomach was not feeling the beer so I opted for red wine (Malbec). Here's what we ordered: Ghost of Bad Tom white ale Roasted cauliflower bites (Chile lime rub w/ cilantro lime dip) Cheese pizza Vampire slayer pizza (roasted garlic purée, ricotta with house cheese blend, Genoa salami, fresh basil, and cracked black pepper) Hazard's German Lager Coal Hearted Killer Russian Imperial stout Tombstone chocolate stout Everything was perfect! The pizzas were amazing and my fave was the Cilantro Lime Cauliflower bites. The sauce pairs well with it. We were there for a couple of hours and definitely enjoyed ourselves. We even played some board games (scrabble and Yatzee). Beertenders were very laid back and down to earth. Service was great! Yes... I can see ourselves coming back for sure! Both my lady and I were big fans of the original location. We had lots of great times there and brought our dog Billy a few times. My lady even surprised me with a great 40th birthday party there. So when they announced the new location, we were both happy because it was gonna be closer to us, and likely even bigger than the original. Is it? Absolutely! More space to sit, more brews on tap (as well as wines and their own signature bourbon), and a full kitchen serving up tasty bites (Zablong Pizza Kitchen). The location itself looks like an old bank branch, complete with vault, and it's very spacious and cozy. They have TVs everywhere playing different sports games as well as a plethora of board games. My lady and I grabbed a table nearby the bar. If you're looking to order food, there are cards at each table to fill out your order, and once you've filled it, just hand it to a bartender and they'll bring your order to you when it's ready. We ordered some drinks, a couple pizzas, and some roasted cauliflower (chile lime rub with cilantro lime dip). Everything was immensely delicious! My lady mainly drank malbec because she wasn't feeling like beer. As for me... 1. Ghost of Tom white ale 2. Hazard's German lager 3. Coal Hearted Killer Russian Imperial stout 4. Stopped in this brand new home on their second day open. The place looks fantastic and I expect this will become a great neighborhood brewery. Bad Tom Smith is a cute brewery off the beaten path. The decor is rustic and a prohibition-like style / vibe. When you walk in there are a bunch of high top tables along with bar seating. There are some big famous quotes along the walls regarding whiskey and drinking, rustic lamps and everything is made from dark wood. The best thing was that there are little pamphlets on each table/the bar which explained each beer in detail - this was especially helpful as they have so many beers on tap! At least 20! I am not an IPA fan so that little pamphlet was my best friend when truing to build my flight. Although I did not get this beer, they had a beer special that was made with opera cream from BonBonerie and mentioned they do collaborations like that often - something I thought was cool. FYI: They used to have a kitchen, but no longer do. You can order Mazunte chips/salsa and a few other items from nearby restaurants, but NOTE: there is no BBQ there anymore. read more

Stopped by Bad Tom Smith Brewing on Saturday night - right in the heart of Madisonville at the Northeast corner of Madison and Whetsel roads in the old bank building. What a creative use of space taking an old bank building and repurposing into a brewery. We sat at the bar, they have 18 beers on tap, they have a booklet you can review to see all of the details of each beer to help make your decision, as I needed it and went with a flight as I always have a hard time deciding on just one beer, so like to try a few. We were told they use higher carbonation and nitro in their beers so they're smoother than other craft beers. They have local popcorn for purchase for a snack in a variety of flavors as well as Sweets and Meats BBQ for pulled pork, chicken or we had the brisket special which was huge portion and delicious. Very friendly service at the bar, they were busy as I think everyone was trying out the new space, grabbing a beer and meal on Saturday night. We keep coming back because it is in the neighborhood, we are really rooting for this place....! It's my understanding they recently got new owners which is great, they have events every night it seems and we went to check out Sing-o night which was a lot of fun! Prizes are gift cards. We ordered a flight- I enjoy the beers, 18 on tap, great variety. My husband thinks their beers taste "flat" and he cannot find one that he likes. Thankfully for him they have other beers and drinks. We ordered the Buffalo chicken dip and a small flatbread prosciutto and arugula pizza. The dip was great. The pizza was quite pathetic. I remember when they opened they served delicious pizzas! I think they have a rotating kitchen - but they really need to solidify a menu and find what they are good at! This flatbread was NOT it. What a huge improvement from their old location! This old bank building has gone through an amazing transformation to house Bad Toms. The beer lineup seems to have improved as well. They have partnered with Sweets n Meats BBQ to provide food, and also offer popcorn and peanuts that you can buy. My husband and I were not impressed. There are a lot of great brewery restaurants in Cincinnati but this isn't one of them. The food was average and the service non-existent. Cute little place right in the heart of Madisonville. Nice vibe to the place. It use to be an old bank building so the overall ambiance is pleasant. Their beer selection is extensive & all on tap. I think they have around 16 different beers to choose from ranging from a lager to stout. You will definitely find a beer or two to your liking. They offer food as well. Our party tried several items during our visit & I must admit that this is where I was disappointed. The pepperoni pizza had very little sauce as well as pepperoni. The tortilla chips were lackluster. Too expensive for what we got in return. This is an area to the business that I suggest revamping. Now let's not let it overshadow the main reason you are there... for the beer & the social setting. For that I recommend this establishment and give it a 4 1/2 star thumbs up. read more

New Madisonville location is nice, I've been a few times. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a beer I really like here. I have a wide palate and I've tried 8 beers here, and the best I've had is the Hazy Pale Ale. Most taste watery and lack a depth of flavor you'd expect from a modern brewery at these prices. The food however, is fantastic. They offer BBQ from a local joint in house that is prepared in the back. The setup in Madisonville is really cozy, tungsten lighting and a nice spacious layout. Not too loud at all, and there's a side room with board games. I'd go back and am hoping I can find a beer that wows me. read more

We have supported Bad Tom's for several years. My husband is a member of the bad ass beer club. We stopped by last night to get a Fink & Wickked Sheryl, two of our favorite beers. We were told to sit anywhere. There were several empty tables available. We waited for ten minutes and no server ever came out to take our order. I would have understood if it was busy. In this day and age, you have to connect with customers and provide good service. There are a lot of breweries out there. I hope they do better. read more

Cool place, good layout and potential wasted. Sorry, Keepin' it Real is just keeping it real. We tour the area checking out all non-chain establishments especially craft beer businesses. Was excited to come here as this was our area of the evening. Two bartenders were absolutely worthless, unfriendly and unknowledgeable, though I give the young girl a break as she appeared new. Asked what beer he would recommend based our input and got, " well, they're all pretty good". Thanks for nothing. Ordered the pretzel appetizer in prep for dinner and it ended there. What a shame to nuke a servatii pretzel like that, poor pretzel didn't stand a chance. No dinner, one beer, goodnight. Disappointing, what a shame, can't recommend. read more

We attended the soft opening where we had an opportunity to meet the team and try the cold brews & BBQ. We were pleasantly surprised by the laid back vibe and comfortable space. The owners are kind, the beer is great and the food is a welcome addition. The atmosphere is kid friendly and board games are available for entertainment. My favorite was the Sheryl's Strawberry Ale. Stopped in for the first time Friday with a small group. What a great place, really liked all of the beer I tried. Nice space with a nice patio also. Had some tots which were pretty good and I'll definitely try the pizza next time. Only small negative was the grumpy bartender that didn't want to be there. Not a brewery, just a bar. Just left. Wanted to have a few drinks with my whole family, 8 adults and 3 kids. There are no changing tables in the restrooms. The couch outside of the restrooms is off limits for diaper changes too apparently (I found out too late). The owner lady yelled at me and told me it was unsanitary to do that. Then I threw the diaper away in the 1 quart garbage can in the restroom. The owner later confronted me and told me that "this place was built to be more like a bar"(Direct Quote). But don't worry you can take your dogs in there anytime, even when they serve food(It's Sunday-2 big dogs). Bartenders GREAT, Owner ruined. I wish the one on Eastern was still open, it was ran much better. Won't be back, not worth passing Listermann or Mad Tree to get to this place. read more

The beer selection here was a surprise and delight! Very easy to navigate the menu and decide what to try with the descriptions. Although probably seasonal, the Pumpkin Ale was superior to all others I have tried out there - very tasty and aromatic! Pizza Week was actually the main reason for coming here and the Buffalo chicken pizza was delicious. Also tried the cauliflower and pretzel apps - both very good, though I have had better beer cheese with pretzels. Overall very friendly and prompt service. What a fun time going to Bad Tom Smith brewery. We went with friends this past weekend and loved their venue. A renovated bank in Madionsville was the perfect spot. I goes perfectly with their themed beers. All the beers we tried were great. We loved the bourbon as well. The food was good, prices were reasonable. The live music was fun. What completed our whole experience was our fabulous server, Keri. She was so personable and fun. She was very knowledgeable about all their beer and bourbons. This was one of the worst service experiences we have had recently. We have visited Bad Tom's since they were next to Bella Luna, down by Lunken Airport. My husband loves the Fink beer and I love Wickked Sheryl. We had a few extra minutes tonight on our way to an event. We walked into the Madisonville location and were told to sit anywhere. We sat down and perused the menu. My husband used the bathroom. Then we sat...and sat...and sat. Nobody came to take our order. The dining room was empty. The bar had about 6 or 8 patrons. How do you not come and taken an order? It is so simple. We would have ordered within 1 minute of sitting down. After 10 minutes we left. There are too many bars and breweries nearby. We had a great experience at Northern Row and tipped them extremely well. It is very sad that we will probably not return to Bad Tom's, and my husband has a membership in the bad ass beer club :( read more
