I reached out to Karma Dog Training about a month ago. Within a day, I got a response from someone on the team and we set up a quick call to go over goals for my 9 month old pup. I picked them because they do only positive reinforcement. I was paired with a trainer, Sarah, within a few days, and we got something set up pretty soon after. Sarah is absolutely amazing. As a new dog owner, I also needed some training and encouragement. Working with Sarah was so easy! We worked in the house, outside, and on walks, learning all sorts of tricks. I felt like Sarah was very patient with me and explained things thoroughly, but in a way that a new dog owner could understand. I really feel like I have a better grasp of how my dog communicates and how to communicate with him. Almost immediately after our first session, my dog was so good at the tricks and commands we learned. It was fun for him to practice throughout the week. And he got good quickly! Taking multiple sessions with Sarah was super helpful because she reinforced the things she taught him previously, and helped me correct my form on the things I really struggled with, like when I'd get frustrated when my dog would ignore me on walks. He's gotten tremendously better at all aspects, especially walking loose leash, all within three weeks. I'm so impressed and I don't think we could have gotten this far with anyone else. We had an excellent experience with Karma Dog. We found Karma when comparing the various options available for puppy kindergarten classes in Austin. After seeing the level of experience, passion, and commitment of their professional trainers, we knew we had found the right training program. We applied online late at night - and heard back directly from Jeff first thing the next morning. He talked with me for at least an hour to understand our situation, recommend the puppy kindergarten class/trainer best suited for our family situation, and set us up with access to the online Karma Educational Center. My husband and I stayed up late several nights reading through all of this great material to help us get through the early days until Puppy K began. After just 2 puppy kindergarten sessions, we fell in love with our trainer's approach and her willingness to coach and answer any question (sometimes outside of class sessions). Since we were in way over our heads (2 Australian Shepherd puppies, litter mates, and first-time dog owners), we opted to step it up to a customized board & train program with Angela. This was definitely the right choice for us. She was able to make so much progress - we went from former chaos to a manageable household. Reading through these reviews, I'm really surprised that there isn't mention of Briana Stringer, dog behaviorist extraordinaire!! Now, we haven't used her since the beginning months of the year- a great sign, meaning we're not having the issues we once were, but I've been meaning ever since to write a review because she was just a godsend. Our story: My husband and I adopted a sweet Red Heeler/Pit mix last year. We started training as soon as she came home (about 10-12 weeks old.) By her 6 month birthday, we knew we had a pretty big behavior problem on our hands. She was resource guarding her food & toys at home (growling and tensing up when we would come hear her most prized possessions) and it was getting kind of scary. Of course, we didn't want it to escalate to the point where someone got bit. Not wanting it to continue or get out of hand, we turned to the internet to help guide us in remedying this behavior, but the techniques we found & applied ended up making things worse. The final straw was then she ate an entire tennis ball just because she feared it being taken away :( We started calling around Austin looking for someone who could help us. Money is ALWAYS tight at our house and everything we were finding seemed so expensive. Nonetheless, we needed professional help. That's where Briana comes in :) I called Karma & the owner got us in touch with her. First, we talked on the phone about Oli's resource guarding, her over excitement at inappropriate times and other minor issues we had been working on. Briana sent a follow up email right after we spoke with a link to some training exercises we could start on right away (it was just before Christmas & we would be meeting for another 2 weeks.) At our first visit, she gave us SO many more great tools & techniques to work on. We stretched the time between our training sessions (because of the $ issue), worked on those techniques for roughly 3 weeks and scheduled another. Briana was very understanding about that. I think we had 4 sessions total. Oli responded great! Briana worked with Oli's and our needs & was kind, respectful & just plain amazing. She gave us so much insight & practical tools to use everyday. Some background on us: Poe is our first puppy, and we're a bit nervous about making sure she grows up into a friendly, well-behaved dog. She's sweet, but, like all puppies, she can be a real handful. We've read and absorbed a ton of information about positive reinforcement, how to react appropriately, how to productively redirect, and how to teach the dog the rules of the house, but when it's 4:00am and you just need the dog to settle down and go back into her crate so that you can go back to sleep, sometimes it's hard not to react emotionally. We both grew up around dogs, so we knew roughly how challenging it can be to raise a puppy. Karma kept popping up in searches and online reviews, so we reached out for some more information. Jeff, the owner, has been wonderful. He is incredibly accommodating, remarkably clear and thorough in his communication, and a great resource. We were happy with the diversity of packages he offered, and that we could tailor them to our needs and schedule. We'll be starting puppy kindergarten with Karma soon, but we've signed up separately for some private training through the company as well. Jeff connected us with Kelly, one of the local trainers who work with him in Austin. I don't even know where to begin. Our first session with her left both me and my girlfriend elated, feeling so much more confident and prepared than we had been. Kelly immediately jumped in and started working with Poe, and we could instantly see that, not only had some of our work with her already paid off, but that Kelly's (and Karma's) method of training is incredibly effective. Kelly spent well over an hour with us, handling and working with Poe, fielding our endless barrage of questions, and providing us with fantastic advice and some structured homework. I brought my little monster to their puppy kindergarten and it really helped with a lot of basic training tools. The classes are great because they are in a smaller space with a lot of pups and the distractions actually help with the training since in the real world you'll never be in a perfect environment when you need to send a command to your pup. I also needed a little extra help with crate training after my pup finished puppy kindergarten and Jennifer Burns did a dynamite job helping me pick up on some of Ollie's queues on when his separation anxiety would start to kick in. Jennifer is THE most solid pup trainer I've ever met. She had our crazy 13 week old red heeler in the palm of her hand! house specifically) is tailored to your needs. We super appreciate that she tailors the training to your specific needs as well - no question was off limits and she helped us work on everything we were having trouble with (and even prepared us a few things that will come down the road.) We have a "no pups on the couch" rule, and we use "here" and "give" instead of the popular "come" and "drop it" - and Jennifer was on board with it all and didn't question us for a second. She gives simple suggestions and teaches not only the pup, but the people too! We are doing puppy kindergarten as well, and Maple is already getting with the program. She loves training, and we love the positive, loving approach that Karma teaches. Sure, we get frustrated! Caitlin Lane at Karma Dog Training is a dream come true! If i could give her 3749287 stars I would. Caitlin took on the challenge of training my very cute, but very rebellious and possessive 8 month old ("Teenager") Australian Shepherd, Winnie. Winnie has participated in puppy training in the past, but Caitlin's one-on-one training and boarding is exactly what Winnie needed to bring out her full potential. Caitlin used positive reinforcement to calm her down and set rules for her that gave her an escape/exit option when she was guarding things, spaces and people. I sent Winnie to board & train with Caitlin for one week and she taught her that the crate is not a "bad place", socialized her with humans and other dogs, took her to group training and did lots and lots of exercise and fun (walking, running, swimming, car rides, etc.). I HIGHLY, highly recommend Caitlin. If Winnie has any other issues down the line, I wouldn't even think about bringing her elsewhere. Cesar Millan ain't got nothing on this girl! I have had many puppies throughout my life and felt pretty good about training our newest addition. I quickly realized that I was in over my head with little guy. He was getting potty training and basic "sit", "stay", etc.. down pretty well. But his biting was out of control. Or so I thought. I have a young son now and maybe that's why I thought this biting was so much worse. I was more afraid than if it were just me at risk. Anywho, I emailed Karma a lengthy email about my situation and they replied immediately with a lengthy email and told me to come by for a free class. I didn't know what to expect but it was really awesome! They don't do the nasty "pack leader" approach that involves fear and submission. They use positive reinforcement for longer and more stable results. The two trainers present were so awesome and seriously knew their stuff. Sweet natured and very attentive to all of the pups and owners. The things I learned in one class completely ended his "aggressive" biting after practicing it at home for one day. And it wasn't even a class about biting! I signed up for a full 7 weeks and I feel so good about the adult dog my pup is going to become with the lessons they are teaching us. ZION ZION ZION!!! She is the best dog trainer you could ask for! I purchased a package that included private lessons and puppy classes. Zion showed up early, left late and always had a smile on her face with lots of energy. She is knowledgeable and has a plethora of written and memorized information. She has endless real world examples to pull from and apply to each behavior, both positive and negative. It was apparent that she really invested herself into getting to know my puppy and it was obvious that she really wanted help. With all of that said, the proof was in the proverbial puddling. My puppy made leaps and bounds of improvement. We began training with Zion at eight weeks and he is now 18 weeks. His attention span was quite short to begin with and he doesn't have much of a traditional work ethic. He is unconventionally motivated. Karma Dog Training is as good as it gets. We have been to many other training programs, but our doggie has responded to these guys the best. Their philosophy is based on positive reinforcement, understanding how to best communicate with your dog, and of course there is lots of room for socialization. I am sure our dog's sunny disposition has a lot to do with this method. We took the puppy preschool class when our dog was a wee lad. They were so careful about cleaning feet and keeping everything sanitary - so it was safe for the pups to attend before they finished their parvo series. The price is great and the lessons are a good basic training, teaching what every pooch needs to know to have a good time in the doggie-social city of Austin.. The individual attention is amazing and I can't imagine a better trainer than Caitlyn. She taught us what to look for when dogs socialize and what NOT to worry about. The best part, is that the series is a rolling series that takes place the same date and time each week. If you miss a class, you make it up. If you need to take it again, your doggie is welcomed back for a refresher. We have been to several other classes, but we have been spoiled by Karma. None of them seem to have the same attention for us and our pooch - and some of them skip the socialization section. We are enrolling in a new series at Karma this summer: The Canine Good Citizen Class. We are all very excited to make more friends and learn even better behavior. read more

We are very happy with Karma Dog Training. From the initial communication with Jeff the owner to getting me in touch with the trainers, it has been a wonderful experience! We tried the free class and our then 3 month old Shih Tzu already learned from Jennifer Burns immediately. We decided with the 1 private and 7 class training and quickly found out what an amazing trainer Jennifer is from the 90 minutes she spent at our house. She taught us how smart Yogi is and what certain behaviors meant. I love their philosophy of rewarding to teach! In the group setting I've watched her explain how certain breeds like to play and when the puppies are having fun and when they need to stop and how to stop it. She truly understands dogs and they love her. Yogi also knows she's the teacher and truly obeys her with respect. She and the other trainers on site take the time to watch each family apply what we're learning and make suggestions as needed, so we're still getting individual attention. We have continued to use Karma Dog for our sweet 4 year old rescue dog, Pepper, and it's already been one year now - we still LOVE them!! We initially did the Reverse Train because Pepper had major separation anxiety - among other issues. Mike came out to our house and spent three weeks with her when we first got her and made a huge difference (more detail on my previous review.) Since then, we have been doing the Reverse Board when we travel and have used Elisa and Hannah - love them too! All of the trainers obviously love dogs, are experienced, and have treated Pepper with such gentle kindness. Now we are going to venture out and try the Zen Day Care - where we drop her off at one of the trainer's homes (just for the day) and see how Miss Pepper does! Karma has been super helpful in teaching my positive reinforcement dog training. I only knew of traditional methods and was not wanting to do that with my new border collie puppy. I have been involved in canine obedience and agility training for almost twenty years and have been around some of the most respected trainers in central and south Texas. I have used traditional training methods with generally good results, but now I have found a better way. The positive, reward-based training methods employed by Jeffrey Brian and his associates at Karma Dog Training are vastly superior to anything else I have seen. My young dog is learning all the things that will make him a well-adjusted companion, and he is having fun in the process. She was just incredible in training Nigel, our little Norwich Terrier, and his big sister, a Wheaten Terrier. I've had a really great experience with Karma Dog Training. I discovered them earlier this year on Yelp when I got my pitbull pup, Luna. I was drawn to their positive approach to dog training. I tried their puppy kindergarten classes and they were immensely helpful in laying a foundation for Luna. It was great training and socialization all in one. A few months later, this led me to use Karma for their "board and train" program while I was recently on vacation for 8 days. They pair you with a trainer that keeps your dog with them at their house as if they were at home with you. I had admittedly been slacking in the training department with Luna. She was having issues jumping on people to greet them, coming back to me (recall), and staying calm and composed (self control). This was concerning to me, especially given Luna is a large pitbull that is often misunderstood or judged due to her appearance (though she's the sweetest pup!). So I called Karma and spoke with Jeff, the owner. Jeff is a really great guy and even remembered me from when I called about puppy kindergarten (around 6 months earlier). He was very helpful and you could tell he sincerely cared about me and my dog. He never tried to upsell me or anything, but rather spoke to me like a friend to whom he was offering advice. And even though it was very short notice (about a 2 weeks before my trip), he still was able to connect me with a trainer. The trainer I was paired with was Erin Dunlavy and she was awesome! It really couldn't have gone better. She was very friendly, calm, and caring and I knew immediately she was a good fit from just a phone conversation. Throughout the training, she sent me many videos and updates via text while I was away (which I still refer to for training purposes) and even got Luna a little scarf and new harness. It was very clear that she genuinely cared for Luna, and she was even sad to see her go! Now Luna is an even better puppy and I can bring her into the office no problem. We're still working on recall and a few things, but through Erin I received the tools and training I needed and Luna got the foundation she needed for us to both grow together. I've continued to put in the work after, and it's been much easier and fun now that Luna has the foundation she received while with Luna (and that I have a better idea of what to do and what not to do). Kelly came to train our dog in a private 1 hour session. The training went ok, during the training she had to use our dog's favorite toy to show it to not be posesive. So far, so good. By accident after the training she took the toy with her because it was in her back pocket and she (and I) had not realized. As soon as I got home after walking her to the parking lot I realized it was missing and remembered that it was in her pocket. I called her, texted her, left her voicemails for, seriously, up to 8 weeks after the training session. She NEVER returned ANY of my calls or texts. I even told her in my messages that I would go to her to pick it up, but again NEVER a response. What was the problem? How come she couldn't answer my request? It was my dog's favorite toy, and it would've been so easy for her to REPLY to my messages and for to go get it. But she didn't and this just illustrates their lack of professionalism. I will never use them again and have warned and continue to warn all of my dog-owner friends to stay away from this place. read more

Karmadog training Austin - a review Having had dogs for most of my adult life and believing in a holistic approach to life I thought I would give Karma Dog Training a try and take my puppy to a trainer who appeared to know what he was doing. After all, the website and testimonies sounded great. Believing that we have can learn so much from our dogs, Jeffrey Brian's belief in karma were convincing that this class would be awesome. Unfortunately, Karma Dog Training is not what it is made out to be. Jeffrey Brian is a business owner, not a dog trainer. Intuitive animal lovers can sense whether someone is a legitimate dog trainer or not. Animals can sense whether someone is a legitimate dog trainer or not. A healthy dog, not suffering from any behavioural problems will, 98% of the time, seek out the touch of the dog trainer. In addition, the dog trainer will seek out the touch of the dog. Not once has Mr. Liebowitz taken the time to touch any of the animals prior to the start of class or after class. He simply shows up for his 80 minutes of fame where he attempts to portray himself as an expert in dog behavior. His idea of fixing a problem dog is to bring it to class. You do not introduce a problem dog to class without having taken the time to personally evaluate the dog. If you were as grand a dog trainer as you claim, you would know not to go off of what the dog owner tells you. You look at the animal in a safe setting. A class room can not be considered a safe environment for a dog. Not with 5 other animals present. You take the time to look into the dog's eyes. You check their teeth. You feel their coat. Not recommend to the owner that they bring it to class, where with treats and more treats you try to fix the problem without understanding the core issues. Jeffrey Brian's suggestion to one of his clients about the fact that their dog wasn't eating was to change the dog food. The dog didn't like the food. There are multiple reasons as to why a dog doesn't eat. Sensitive, submissive dogs often will refuse to eat if they are emotionally stressed, if something has changed in their environment. Try adding something they really like to their food. Yoghurt, Cottage Cheese, Bananas, home made chicken broth. Switching dog foods every other day, aside from wasting money is not the way to go about this. Please save your money. Go take some private lessons with real experts; experts that have a proven track record. Go take lessons at the local animal shelters, at least if these are crappy, some of the proceeds go towards the shelter. Talk to your veterinarian about who they can recommend but please, do not waste a dime on Karma Dog Training. Jeffrey Brian does not know what he is doing and does not know anything about dogs. His marketing campaign appeals to the first time dog owner who actually belief that they are helping their animals by taking them to this quack. I understand that there are many dog owners in Austin who are graduates of Karma Dog Training and who think that there is no one greater than Mr. Liebowitz. As an animal lover, dog owner and intuitive person I can only caution you to take a clear look at his approach, his interaction with dogs, your dog's interaction with him and listen to every word he is saying. You might just be able to spot the wolf beneath the sheep's clothing. At best, Jeffrey Brian's Karma Dog Training is a step up from Petsmart, at worst, an even bigger rip off than Petsmart. And last but not least, if Jeffrey Brian were as talented as he claims he is, he would not seek help for his dogs from other Austin dog trainers. His claim that he has worked with Cesar Milan to train as a dog training is currently being verified. read more

Our dog learned so much in this class. At the beginning she barely knew how to sit and by the end she knew sit, stay, down, loose loose walking and more. Before the class she had met one other dog. Karma Dog Training is awesome! After researching various training styles and learning more about the breed, I decided to enroll Zeus, my Rhodesian Ridgeback, in puppy class as soon as he was old enough. I knew before I even brought him home that I would need to socialize him as much as possible early on to keep him from being a gigantic jerk to people and other dogs when he got older..... AND I needed to start when he was small. Caitlin was extremely patient with Zeus (and me!) during our 8 week puppy kindergarten class and we both learned so much! Angela is Austin's best dog trainer!!! I wish I would have gone to her sooner, she is truely amazing! I was getting very frustrated potty training my puppy. The longer I had her the more rebellious she seemed to be, I honestly did not think I could deal with her pottying in my house. I felt I had tried everything and it was getting worse. I had a consultation with Angela and felt that she was genuine and knowledgable of how to resolve my situation. Angela had my puppy at her house for five days. I can not believe how awesome, calm and mindful my puppy is now. Following Angela's advise on how to properly care for my puppy, we have had no accidents or negative behavior with our puppy.
