This place is absolutely the only place I'll take my dogs for training and assistance. Tara and Laura are incredibly kind, patient, and professional individuals with true talent and grit when it comes to animals. I took our recently adopted Heeler here to enroll in basic obedience. She is fear reactive and quite a handful. Laura did an incredible job training us and making us feel welcome. We are now about to graduate basic obedience, and moving on to intermediate with 6 confident legs!

Our dog loves Tara so much she falls at Tara's feet when she sees her!

"Must love dogs"... I bet if you were too take out an add for a person to help your dog, that would be one of your qualifications. If so, Tara's the person for you! Not only is Tara great at what she does, but she LOVES dogs; all dogs! Big, small, purebred and mutts, they are all equal in Tara's eyes. Just take a look at the pictures of her pack on her website and you will see. When we got our dog, Abby, she was a 12 week old pitbull puppy and we needed to start training her right away. We did what we could on our own and then decided it was time to call in the big dogs. Tara came out for a personal consult and I knew right away we had made the right choice. She was personable as well as knowledgeable. Before long we had Abby in a puppy socialization class, basic and then intermediate obedience. Now she's taking agility with Tara. Words cannot describe the level of customer service Tara (and Brandie & Amanda) provide. Sure, many people think of going to a certain large pet chain store for training, but I ask you this... Can you call them and say, my dog is doing such and such.. "HELP!" Odds are no one could help you or have any real idea about your dog. Tara has been there for us on numerous occasions when we just needed a quick tip on how to fix something. Every time we go out of town or need to board Abby for a night, we think of no one else but Tara, Brandie and Amanda. It is like being at a home away from home for Abby. She comes back to us better behaved and exhausted. You can rest assured that your pup will be in good hands and tuckered out when you pick them up. In conclusion, Abby gives Tara... two paws... WAY UP!

I am so happy to have had the pleasure of meeting Tara Stermer in person today at the Dog Day Afternoon party on the Patio at Cool River where she had a booth set up. I love that she has dedicated herself to training "Misunderstood" Dogs and wanted to give her a huge hug as soon as I met her but restrained myself. Because I was afraid she would think that was a bad example to be setting for my dog. My dog is so friendly that she wants to french kiss every dog she meets and I am trying to teach her some manners and that not all dogs want to kiss within the first seconds of meeting:) My dogs only issues is that she is overly friendly and a big Mommy's Baby and makes horribly sad sounds when she is in "supervised separation" from her Mommy with a stranger. I almost wish my Pup had some issues just so I could work with Tara on training. Today Tara gave me some great FREE tips on how to get Mia to overcome her nervousness when a stranger has to take her away. And Tara was so great with Mia while teaching me - Mia did not make one sad sound! I also have friends with "Misunderstood" Breeds who swear by her. Tara, thanks for all you do for the "Misunderstood" furry kids!

Transformative Online Training, Truly Beyond Words!…read more We are so grateful for Allegra and her incredible online training program. We took in two stray dogs who were wild, anxious, and completely untrusting. We weren't sure where to begin and it was chaotic for us, until we found her. Through her online courses and virtual sessions, she helped guide us step by step with patience, wisdom, and a technique that honestly goes beyond words. Even though we never met in person, her presence and deep understanding of animal behavior came through in every interaction. With her support, our dogs have started to trust us, calm down, and settle into their new life. The change has been remarkable. It feels like a miracle to see them open up and begin to feel safe and loved. If you're dealing with fearful or reactive dogs, do not hesitate to work with Allegra. Her approach is compassionate, intuitive, and truly life-changing. Thank you, Allegra, so much!!

It's much more wide ranging than training that's only focused on commands like sit/stay/down/etc (though you can work on all of those with the Naked Dog's programs too). Before we signed up for the group training series, I was at my wit's end with our recently adopted dog. He had a lot of behavioral issues, ranging from chewing things in the house, overall excitability, constant attempts to eat pecans and, worse, trash on walks (and often succeeding despite our best efforts & requiring steady doses of probiotics and even a vet visit to induce vomiting), and lunging on leash at dogs and passing vehicles. We also noticed that when we took him to the dog park, he'd play really rambunctiously and generally go 0-60, including running and body checking other dogs (not the best strategy for harmonious playing). The great part about this series is that it's three in-person sessions (we added a fourth for some additional coaching) and the rest is a series of online lessons. This made it easy for us to work through at our own pace. In the online portion, the end of every lesson included video homework that we'd send in and get feedback from one of the Naked Dog trainers -- this was great because it captured us applying these skills in a total real world setting, without the presence of a trainer to coach us or influence our dog to be on his best behavior. Fast forward a couple months, and now we feel confident that we can handle any situation with our dog, including taking him to busy and distracting environments and responding to misbehavior. He's mellowed out so much -- he isn't perfect, but it feels like we've reached an understanding. He went from my problem child to my sidekick. He can walk in a heel, he comes when called, and will wait at the door before we say he can come in. It feels like he's looking to us as leaders and that he's truly settled in as part of our family. We followed the Naked Dog's recommendations for introducing dogs for the first time when we took him over to a friend's house to meet their dogs, and they remarked on what a good dog he is, and that he's better behaved than other dogs they've petsitted, so now we have a worry-free petsitting option. I also now take him by our neighborhood park on walks and let him meet other dogs, which used to be a wild activity full of leash pulling and jumping. The Naked Dog taught us what to look for in reading dogs' behavior so that we can spot polite vs rude behavior and manage their interactions before they start getting too wild, which is a truly priceless part of this training seminar.

I still regret it a few years later. She was being buzzed for behaviors she didn't understand. It was punishment rather than training. Owners were confused and just zapped away without proper training and guidance, I pulled my dog out immediately. If you truly love your dog, and want to learn proper communication, consider positive reinforcement. The only situation I 'maybe' consider this is a pup with aggressive behavior. Otherwise, I would NEVER recommend this type of training. NEVER.

The owner does need to be diligent with taking their dog to the trainings (we kind of fell off at the end but it was okay) but as long as you stick with it, your dog will learn new skills and will be better behaved than before. We can literally walk our dog without a leash now, I never thought that would be possible. She will sit in her place when people come over and we are always getting compliments on how good she is. We can do things in the front yard and have her stay in the garage and she won't run after other dogs that walk by or other other people or children. She has learned to stay in her place for as long as we need her to be. It's funny because she was a really wild dog before and now that she's trained everybody loves her. overall the training here was worth it and we are really happy that we did it!

Fortunatley he healed well after two weeks of dedicated TLC but the trauma of the experience remained with both him and me well after Ryder physically healed. I reached out to Matt for virtual dog training appointments to help us through that, and his guidance and great wisdom around dog psychology and behavior and deep empathy for Ryder and in general made such a huge impact. I learned from Matt how to help Ryder through his fear and trauma and how to recognize when he was experiencing trauma (for example, he developed a new and strong fear of rumbling engines). By applying Matt's empathetic practices, Ryder has become much less fearful, is no longer afraid of rumbling engines or playing with other dogs and he's back to his old happy, playful, super enthusiastic and friendly self!! :) Matt also greatly helped my dog Ellie through the excessive anxiety that resulted from my marital separation and helped us learn what an impact the breaking of that social bond had on her and how to address it! She will not bark at other dogs now. If she does, it is once and she stops when I ask her to. She does not pull on the leash like she used to. I can actually get her attention when I need her to do something now. We trained at day camp with Ashley and she was incredibly helpful and knowledgable. She was so supportive and even stayed late with us to work through some problems together pretty much every lesson. My husband is reluctant to enforce rules or make our pup do things she doesn't want to do, and Ashley helped him with a few pep talks to understand why training is so important, even if it can be frustrating and uncomfortable. We are still learning and still have group classes to take, but so far I've been impressed and grateful.

The people at the facility that I interacted with or capable and knew what they were doing. My dogs were obedient to the trainers when I picked them up. However, the two 30 minute to 45 minutes training sessions were supposed to be 1hour sessions but we're cut short because other customers were arriving. We did not have enough time with the trainers to become skilled at reinforcing what our dogs had learned. We did get written instructions and email instructions. But for the price, I thought we would get more thorough training. The owner Lisa is knowledgeable and nice. Austin, her son, answers the phone he is also very nice. Leaving my dogs at their facility was stressful. I was told I would have communication and pictures or videos daily. What they didn't tell me is the pictures our poses and videos that match canned statements, not real communication about my dog and only once daily. I was given the direct phone number of the owner but couldn't reach her until three or four calls were made. I felt upset that I couldn't determine my dogs well-being from the poses and the canned comments that were generic to every dog. It was upsetting waiting for a callback. I couldn't visit my dogs while they were boarded for training and one of the pictures they looked very stressed. So I was upset by the time. I finally got a callback. The owner Lisa was helpful when she called back. I did get more personal interaction from the trainers. After speaking with Lisa. When I had a scheduling issue, she was also accommodating. My issue is when we got our dogs home we were not trained to reinforce what they had learned. We are not trained to get the results we saw when we picked up the dogs from boarding training. Then there are the group classes. They last for six months. I had terrible health problems for two months and could not attend and they will only allow me one month credit even though I offered MD proof that I was sick. So two months later, our two, very reactive Frenchies in tow, we were late to class and exhausted due to late night, long flight delays. I called talked to Austin told him we would be 36 minutes late.. He said no problem come on in, we will take care of you when you arrive. After a 45 minute drive , we arrived and employee Jerry was very rude. Turned us away and said "I don't know what to tell you, class is over why are you here"? I explained what Austin had said, Jerry said again. "I don't know what to tell you class is over" and shrugged. I called Austin back, he said "I don't know what to say, sorry come back next week". Even though we arrived at the exact time, I told Austin we would arrive. I expect better customer service for $6,000. The sales pitch I was given, led me to believe they would be very present knowledgeable, and helpful. that has not consistently been our experience. We attended class today and were pleasantly surprised. Lisa was teaching and it was a good class. We went over the basics of what they had taught our dogs and how to do it at a very basic level. I feel like I should've had today's training and several other training sessions during the time my dogs were being boarded and trained. There would've been more value in boarding them if I was better equipped to deal with them when they got home.
