Canyon's "Sit & Stay" for a photo while on our walk around Town Lake. 3

We would 100% recommend having Cassie train your dog! A little background, my partner and I were torn about sending Canyon, our 6 month old puppy, to a board & train program. This was partly because everyone claimed he was so well behaved and his personality is pretty chill. In reality, we usually wore him out before we took him anywhere, so he was just tired when he met our friends. We struggled with leash pulling/lunging (particularly on our morning walks), over-excitement around other dogs, lack of consistency in basic commands (does he understand us or is he ignoring us?!), and mouthing me when he didn't get his way. Cassie worked wonders with Canyon and he is a much better version of his perfect puppy-self. Leash is incredible- he heels, sits when we stop, makes eye contact to engage when we're walking downtown ATX. He is also so much better with his reactivity around other dogs, where it rarely happens unless we're in a weird tightly confined area like an elevator, but even then it's just a little whine because he wants to play with the other dog. "Place" has been a game changer in the house, and it has helped calm the zoomie hour where the mouthing usually happened, giving him something else to focus on. Canyon's listening skills have been turned on and we no longer question if he knows what we're asking of him. Before Wise Tails Academy, we lacked consistency and full knowledge of dog training, trying purely positive techniques to be "kind" dog parents, but it just didn't work and our dog was outsmarting us or confused when we got frustrated. Cassie's balanced approach has given us the boundaries we need and corrections that Canyon understands. If there was any doubt of his happiness at the program (because let's face it, it was so hard to be away from our new pup!) the updates she sent up to the day we picked him up let us know that he was having a blast. His attention and deference to Cassie was incredible and you could tell that he both loved her and respected her while going through training. We are now enjoying those same things from Canyon every day and hope that you will too!

Recently I had to go out of town and I decided to board my dog with Cassie and give him a refresher training.

    LUCKI DOG PET RESORT

    (12 reviews)

I would like to update this review of mine as I feel that it is necessary now-…read more I was asked to leave this review up as evidence against an ongoing investigation into this establishment that is no longer active due to the deputy retiring (at least that's what I heard last.) So now I feel the duty to the public and the fury as a pet lover to post my story regarding Lucki Dogs Pet Resort. Several years back, I boarded all three of my dogs here regularly. I usually dealt with Maggie who was very kind to me albeit her own poor hygiene and some unconventional routines at the pet resort (hey- it's Spicewood, that's what I loved about it out there.) I later moved into the city but still occasionally boarded them there when everywhere else was booked. Three years ago, I had picked up my two little ones pictured in the photo here with me. The dachshund, Ruby, was acting funny. I noticed she had a burr in her paw and pulled it out before we left the parking lot and chalked it up to that. She kept acting funny for the next day or so though. It seemed liked she had indigestion or something, maybe a little asthma (she occasionally had little bouts). However, her condition kept worsening over the course of the next 48 hours. She became trembly and seemed to have a hard time breathing. When I looked up symptoms online, they all said she needed to be seen immediately. I took her to the emergency vet that second (it was 10 pm so my regular vet wasn't open.) Upon being received there, I was told that she was in cardiac arrest with a pulmonary embolism and MIGHT DIE ANY MINUTE. I thought they had the wrong dog- Ruby was only 11, supposed to live much longer, and was healthy up until this point in her life. A lively, sweet, loud little creature that showed zero signs of illness. I was still under the impression that she had maybe gotten a rawhide lodged in her throat that needed to be moved or something. I actually told the doctors that they had the wrong number I was in such disbelief. They had us come in and say our goodbyes (COVID times). I could not process what was happening. They said they would try to save her but that it did not look good. They were going to keep her overnight and let us know how she was doing in the morning. She passed away within the hour. My grief is still not fully gone and it's been three years. I miss her every day. I had always wondered that maybe something had happened at Lucki Dogs that caused this, but thought I just wanted something or somewhere to blame and didn't look into anything, because how would I ever know? My guess was maybe she got into rat poison (it always smelled like pesticide/mothballs there) which induced her heart and breathing issues, but it was just a suspicion within my mama heart But then.... I saw Indie's story on the news one day and the details came out about how everything went down.... I started shaking. What had always been a hunch of mine, no longer seemed like a coincidence after all of this came to light?!?! I still do not know for sure and never will, so I cannot say anything for certain for my sweet Ruby. But the bottom line is this : One of my dogs died within 48 hours of leaving this establishment. Although I loved the resort at a point in time, my trust and many others' have been broken by them since then. I will not take this review down so I still have the proof that I was a client there and so were my beloved babies who are no longer with me. I am so very sorry for what happened to poor Indie and anyone else who has sufferers at the neglect, abuse, or active malice from this extremely unfortunate situation. I am also very sorry for holding my silence for so long. I hope that my truth will release me

Having seen Catherine interact with not only her own dogs, but client dogs, I can personally say she is knowledgeable beyond belief and you can completely trust you are in excellent hands (and paws) with The Ranch For Canine Training and Behavior. This facility is immaculate. There is plenty of parking and her indoor facility is well lit and very well cared for. Catherine's knowledge extends way beyond basic training. She has handled and titled multiple dogs in conformation, obedience and protection work. This is a very big deal as many trainers have not successfully competed with and titled dogs to the level she has. She knows canine structure and behavior very well. These qualities are very hard to come by in a trainer. Not only the above, but she is great with communication on the human front. I challenge you to meet a more caring, loving, detail oriented dog trainer! She is fantastic with communication on the human level. Great lady, fantastic training space and a solid place to take your pup for schooling.

I am also the proud new mom of a pug puppy (11 pounds at 6 months-LOL), so we hired Catherine to train our pups for the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy certification. I was blown away by Catherine's knowledge, communication with our puppies and ability to train we humans to be better leaders for our dogs. Not to mention we had so much fun!!! Catherine recently opened a lovely new facility on Hwy 290 just off RR12 and not only does she do private instruction, but also group classes and she brings in experts for training on pet massage, etc. I look forward to taking my puggy back for further certifications and classes with Catherine. She truly is a "dog whisperer" and her patient, yet commanding methods will ensure dogs (and their owners) of all ages, shapes and sizes can learn to be the best they can be! Thank you Catherine!!

The owner spoke to me in a rude and aggressive tone over a simple issue that could have been resolved professionally. Her claim she has given "many free things," is unfounded. She once changed my dog's food without my approval, then charged me for it, that wasn't free, and then left a voicemail calling my dog by the wrong name. How can she claim to know my dog's history if she doesn't even know her name? My suggestions get your story straight before calling. Unfortunately, I've heard similar complaints in the community and they have moved their business elsewhere due to her, the owner, Wendee, disrespectful behavior, which seems to be a pattern. In my opinion, there are other companies that provide better service, more flexible pick-up and drop-off times, and a kinder approach. I can now book flights that fit my budget and choose a care provider that values me and my pet. It's clear there are more affordable and reliable options out there for your best friends, and I'm relieved to no longer deal with the unprofessionalism at A to Z Dog Ranch. Happy trails!
