Fun place and a nice comfortable environment. Saw lots of families and young groups. TV's carrying all of the college football action.

I have only been for drinks so I can't comment on the food but this is a super fun space to be able to hand out with a small or really large group. When it is nice outside you have games and tables both out and in as well as a pretty big menu of drinks to choose from. There are also various board games and the famous chickapig that you can play while hanging out! read more

This place really sucks they are all about the money and the little lady is really mean to her employees...food sucks also...thumbs down for me read more

We came for a after work get together. The reservations were easy to make! They offered wristbands that tied the company to the account which was so nice. The bartenders were amazing and the food delicious. Everything was ready and set up for us when we got there. read more

Awesome atmosphere. Great beers, including a German selection that is spot on for a Beer Hall! Games galore to play and you can rent out the Bocci courts. Great place for a group. Proper glassware with the beers too... big steins for some of the German ones! My one ding. The weird way to order food... you have to order it at a register and then they give you a number/placard thingy. Food is delivered then but you have to go back and pay at the register. read more

While the food and the drinks are good. They have no wait staff due to covid. You have to go and order your food and drinks at two different stands in the restaurant, each taking 30 minutes and only one staff member working . This involves large groups of people closely waiting in line, which defeats the purpose of what they are trying to do for social distancing. I would never come back here during covid. read more

Great place to grab some good beer, board games, and/or bocce. Place I recommend to beer fans in Charlottesville. I do miss the Mac and cheese waffle! :'( read more

Kardinal Hall has great drinks and a great atmosphere. However, their food is sub par. The beer cheese tastes cheap, like honey mustard mixed with water and pimento. Their pretzel is great, but that's not hard to mess up. The wings are good and the burgers are average. Overall not the ideal experience we were expecting. read more

Came here for the first time tonight with a few friends, initially impressed with the environment and atmosphere. The beer selection was relatively well priced, however I was underwhelmed with the food. We ordered the ribs and they came out burnt, tough, and honestly kind of disgusting. The potato salad was good, however the salad that came with it was interesting and not that good. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't. Beyond the food everything else was great but I just can't get passed the food. read more

The atmosphere is solid for a beer hall/place to catch a game. The outside seating is decent - all picnic benches, like most tables inside. Food is not very good, inconsistent. My child was served burned chicken nuggets, spoiled house made applesauce. I've had some okay salads there, but the proteins always leave something to be desired. Beer selection solid, cocktails good. Bartenders are good, GM not so much, owners lovely. Will go to sister restaurant Beer Run more than KH. read more

Had a private event for a group last Thursday. Everyone really enjoyed the space and food. We got the cheese platter and charcuterie platter. The food was authentically German and great for a large group. The drinks were well priced and the beer selection was awesome. Malcolm, the manager, did a great job taking care of our group. Unfortunately, it was too cold for bocce so we'll have to come back in the spring. Overall, great experience, great place for group events. read more

Like Three Notch'd at IX, Kardinal Hall is a great place for group gatherings. It's self-seating with a long bar, so you can easily order your drinks, and a separate food-ordering section, so you can easily order food. I had the BBQ butternut squash with pickled onions substituted for the green bean slaw. It was really good and the reason why I'm giving Kardinal Hall 5 stars. It was also really cheap at $8 but also really small that I had to order a pretzel, which is really large, to fill my belly. The pretzel is so soft and delicious, but I forgot to ask for it without butter/if it contains butter, so make sure you do so to make it vegan. Lastly, I recommend you try two local creations: Chickapig, a locally created board game (they also have other games for your entertainment), and the Passionfruit Gose locally brewed at Three Notch'd. read more

My favorite place to have a drink or quick meal in Charlottesville! Kardinal Hall did a great job of creating a modern interpretation of a traditional beer garden. Also, so glad to see the old Coca Cola building revitalized and full of life. It's a family friendly atmosphere and is a great place to bring groups. They have a wide selection of beers on tap, and I enjoy being able to get a liter of my favorite brew. The board games they have available are a lot of fun to enjoy with friends, and they have several TVs that let them show sporting events. Their food is delicious, I highly recommend their bratwurst and fries. I wish ordering beer at the bar was more efficient, it'd be great if they added a few waitstaff to run beers as traditional beer gardens in Munich have. Hopefully people also begin to realize that the large tables are communal as the popularity of Kardinal Hall often means it's very full inside. ** Oh, go for lunch and play bocce outside! Great outside seating. read more

Kardinal Hall hosted and catered a brunch after my daughter's wedding. They did an outstanding job! Many people told us that the food was great and the service was excellent. The recommended chocolate chip cookies were a big hit. The venue was perfect! But it was the planning and oversight by Chrissy that made the whole package a success! Despite it being her day off, she was present for the party on Sunday and offered to spread a bucket of wildflowers that we had brought to the party. It's these kinds of little things that make a big difference! Thanks! read more

Just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at Kardinal Hall. Chef Will provided an unbelievable feast; Mary, Luke, and Ted took great care of us....a wonderful evening at our favorite place in C'Ville! Thank you Chef Will and staff for making our celebration so memorable! read more

The food was great! It was a bit pricey, but the whole environment was so fun. There are bocce courts and tons of boards games to play while you eat. You have the choice to sit inside or outside. You simply order your food at the bar, and they bring it to your table. The fries come with garlic and sea salt, and they are delicious! This restaurant is very family friendly! read more

Traveling to UVA and went with three kids for lunch. Good time had by all, really impressed by the house-made sausages and well chosen beer list. Absolute gem. read more

I love this place. Drinks are awesome. Food is awesome. Service has been good every time I've gone. The ambiance is awesome. I bring friends and family. Love it here. Great for special occasions or a fun nice day :)! read more

great place, great food, great people. love this place and recommend for anyone who likes good tasting, locally sourced food, awesome beers and incredible cocktails. All the staff were knowledgeable and nice. Will return, hopefully soon! read more

Pretty good beer selection, but honestly think the variety could be a bit better. The food is good as well, but again I think there could be some better options. Don't get me wrong, I love going to this place. But with a few adjustments they could be the best in town. read more

Fantastic venue, lots of character and charm. Before and hopefully after COVID, the board games are a blast. Beer menu is rich with local brews. Many different notes to it. The food is generally good, love the fries but the sausages are a bit meh- very dry. I get they're local doesn't mean they're good. A few tweaks to the menu and food sourcing and you have a five star, easy. read more

No waiter to take your order. The man had an attitude about me not wearing a mask. The restroom had urine on the floor and no soap. Dogs were out on deck pooping and no employee cleaned it up. Rude bartenders. read more

Available beer is good, German food is hearty. Dessert was grossly overpriced and undersized. Very very loud.

This place was awesome! A nice environment and great beer selection. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and an awesome patio for warmer nights! read more

Amazing selection of local and imported draft beers (and EXCELLENT draft kombucha). Food is delicious. Staff is great. The games they have always makes for a fun time for people of all ages. This is my favorite beer hall in the world. read more

This place is awesome!!! I went on a basketball game day and it was a great atmosphere. In addition, it was crazy busy and yet the service was so attentive when we ordered food and drinks. The picture is the chicken salad sandwich and garlic fries. Both very yummy (fair warning the fries are in fact very garlic-y). Will definitely be back! read more

Really nice people working here, and great atmosphere! I didn't try too much of the food, but the garlic aoli was a good suggestion for a side sauce with fries. read more

Absolutely phenomenal service! They have done a great job in light of social distancing requirements and truly go above and beyond for their customers! They make great recommendations for their drinks and their fries are hard to beat anywhere in Charlottesville. Would highly recommend to all! read more

For the life of me, I have not been able to figure out the KH business model. You have to go to the bar to order, go another place to order food, the food comes out randomly (some people got their French fries before their burgers and some got their burgers and the fries showed up 30 minutes later. The sandwiches and burgers are blah and don't even come with a side dish. The food generally is ok but certainly not worth putting up with the poor service. Last night was about the 5th time I've been there and doubtful I'll give them another try. There was 11 of us at a table that we had to stake out and hover over in order to sit down because there is no host. None of us were pleased. Hopefully they'll re-think the way they do business. Until then there are many other cool places in Cville to gather with my friends. read more

Went to this place for a few drinks for a friend of my wife's birthday, she ordered a drink for us and asked to close the bill off.. After waiting a few minutes for the bill she asked where her card was, barman yells rudely that he always places the card in the same place on the bar and then ignores us for 5 more minutes. We ask for the manager he says he will call the manager. We wait 5 minutes more then he tell us to go wait in the corner, 10 minutes later a manager comes by says nothing more than what is the name on the card. He wanders off looks on the floor for a minute then proceeds bar side and starts stacking glasses!!? At this point we walked away and decided it's time to start cancelling the card. 5 minutes later the manager comes with the card, turns out it was behind the bar where the cards are kept, nice! 25 minutes of stress later, no apology, drink on the house? Forget it! Don't waste your time guys this place has had one drink from my wallet, no more! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! read more

We went to KH last night to eat some of their delicious but overpriced Poutine ($11). This was 7oclock on a Saturday, and they told us they were out of potatoes. So then we decided to get a delicious but overpriced pretzel ($9), and we were told they were out of pretzels as well. So we left and went to Bodos, where they were NOT out of bagels. I understand that if it were opening night, or say 11PM on a Tuesday, a restaurant could run out of fundamental foods like potatoes, but 7PM on a Saturday for a place that has been open for over a year? If you go there hungry, make sure you have a backup plan because you might not be able to order food in this restaurant. Manhattan prices, small town service. read more

Worst food ever. Not sure if brats and fries were overcooked or had just been reheated so many times that they were hard as a rock. Do not recommend. read more

Excellent location and ample parking. My family and I enjoyed the food and the beer selection was plentiful. There were a couple of minor kinks which were to be expected but certain they will be worked out in the next few weeks. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Nice bar to hang out at. Great outdoor seating space, large indoor seating space. They offer a good selection of local, domestic, and international beers. The ping pong table (though the paddles are quite worn), bocce courts, and a variety of board games makes for a great, casual night out. read more

Solid beer selection, zero vegan options The staff is very helpful and friendly. Really enjoy the atmosphere and rustic vibes. I asked if they had any vegan options on the menu (a veggie burger was listed) but the bartender asked the chef, who said they didn't have any vegan options. Didn't offer to make me something that I could eat, as other restaurants have done in Charlottesville. Kind of disappointing but still a great place to have drinks! read more

So disappointing. This was one of our favorite spots, especially on Wednesday for their sausage and fries special. Yummy sausage on a pretzel roll, hot fries sprinkled with garlic and cheese, and a long list of beers - what's not to like? Sometime over the fall or winter things changed, and not for the better. Last time I ordered a burger and it was so dry I couldn't eat it. Ok, an "off night", it happens. Tonight I got my favorite sausage and it was dry and served on a stale, dry pretzel roll. The fries were over cooked and both my husband and I got nothing but small pieces of fries, like what was left at the bottom of fryer, and there was none of the garlic and cheese sprinkle. Apparently the word has gotten out because the place was almost empty on a Wednesday night, which was never the case. Bye-bye Kardinal Hall, we won't be back. read more

It was a crazy day when we went there as UVA basketball was playing and it was packed! I was starving and really wanted a burger! I ordered it medium and it was VERY well done. Nothing too exciting. I will come back when it isn't so busy and hopefully write a web redemption! read more

This is what Charlottesville needed. Enough said. Food, beer, ping pong, what more could you want?

Great spot for sitting outside or inside. Usually hosts a board game night on Tuesdays. Nice beer selection.

This place has a great combo of incredible beers and scrumptious food. This did not come as a surprise as it was created by the successful founders of Beer Run. This restaurant and beer hall plus outdoor garden and bocce courts is super spacious and sports a handmade wooden bar that's worth an Instagram! The food focuses on German themed beer garden fusion food with great success. The staff are super knowledgeable and can easily guide you in combos which is handy. You order at a kiosk and then grab your food, just like in beer gardens and halls in Germany, so you're free to wander and play ping pong, bocce, grab another beer, etc, without cumbersome group checks and waiting on others. The location makes it an easy walk from downtown and Rugby, a bit of a digestive stroll or bike ride from the corner and UVA areas. read more
