We hosted our wedding welcome event at Kardinal Hall and could not have been happier with the experience. We worked closely with Chrissy, who helped us plan everything in advance. She was responsive, thoughtful, and really listened to what we wanted. She helped us with layout, timing, food selections, how to use the patio space, and even made sure the mic setup for speeches went smoothly. It honestly felt like she was thinking two steps ahead for us the entire time. Lily was both our bartender and also someone we coordinated with in advance, and she was amazing. Such great energy, friendly with all of our guests, and incredibly efficient at the bar. Multiple people commented on how great she was. The food and drinks were fantastic. We did a variety of appetizers and mains, and our guests raved about everything. The staff made sure trays were consistently replenished and there was more than enough food, which we really appreciated. They also handled dietary preferences that we shared ahead of time and clearly labeled everything, so guests with restrictions felt comfortable and included. We had a partial outdoor patio buyout, and the space was perfect for our group of around 70. Kardinal Hall also allowed us to bring in our own personal touches, which helped the event feel really special and personal to us. Overall, the staff, the food, the service, and the atmosphere all came together to make the night exactly what we hoped it would be. Hosting our welcome event at Kardinal Hall was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding weekend. Highly recommend.

Fairly complete menu with a number of German inspired dishes. I had a veggie burger with side mixed green salad. Delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. 24 beers on tap including a number of local brews. Full service bar. Seating is bar, booths, high tops and a large covered outdoor area. Ample parking on site. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked.

The jaegerschnitzel is very delicious. This dish is enough for two to share. I love the buttery green pasta. I paired this with a Hefeweizen. I love the outdoor eating space. A great place for large groups to gather

Enjoyed the beer and burgers but do yourself a favor and don't get the salmon salad. This is the normal "portion" according to them.

We initially were interested in coming to Kardinal Hall because, as an Untapped venue, we could see that they have an excellent draft beer list. But, even with this great list, I have become a bigger fan of the food! We have been here three times in the last couple of months. This is more than any other restaurant in the C'Ville area! On our first vistit, Schweety and I shared the Sausage platter. On the second, we shared the Pretzel plate from the brunch menu. They both have so many "little extras" that make the plates special, mustard, pickled items, sauces.... YUMMM On my third visit, I met a friend for lunch and we had salads on the patio. Again, its all the little touches that finish the plate make the dishes exceptional. I love, love, love eating here!!!! Though you order at the bar, all the staff I have interacted with have been outstanding. Thanks for all you do!

We enjoyed hanging out at Kardinal Hall during our visit to Charlottesville! It was very crowded, but the staff had a good system with drink orders in the front and food orders in the back. We got a few West Coast IPAs (very good) and a jumbo pretzel with beer cheese (the pretzel was good - nicely salted, a tad greasy for my taste, and the beer cheese was okay - not a ton of flavor). We sat outside for a bit and enjoyed playing some of their card games/watching people play bocce, then we moved inside to the bar to watch some basketball (was glad they had plenty of TVs for March Madness!). The bartender was particularly friendly and welcoming. Good spot overall - would come back!

Vibes: 20/10, when we came on Sunday evening, there was also live music! It was so lovely. They have plenty of board games for you to play with your group. Plenty of parkings, there are even EV chargers! We brought our dog and sat out in the patio. Food: 9/10, brussels sprouts were incredible! We each got bratwurst, vegetarian bratwurst and the hot chicken sandwich which we all enjoyed very much. They even have local sauerkraut!! The creme brulee was insane, so so creamy!! Drink: we got 2 beers, a Pumpkin Porter and a Plumpricot Sour, both were very good!

Great beer! A huge space for large groups. Bartender Hank is on point. I'll definitely be swinging back next time I'm in cville!

I wanted to come back and update this review I left years ago. I've now been a regular at Kardinal for quite a bit and gotten to know the great team, and the dedicated changes they're making to the place, and have loved seeing them! The food is honestly night and day - so much better now. I grabbed a grilled cheese and tomato soup winter special the other day and absolutely loved it, and I really appreciate seeing them innovate with the menu. The drink selection just keeps getting better as well. They now have some great NAs alongside their huge taps, and they have great cocktails to choose from. The brunch is quite good too, I particularly enjoy the French toast we tried. Overall, I love to see businesses in Cville work hard and get better, and it's been great seeing Kardinal grow. Great place to hang with friends, watch a game, or just hang out at the bar and chat with the awesome staff!

Their food is delicious! I ordered schnitzel and pretzel they were both great! Outdoor seating is great for groups too!

Great Food and Friendly staff with plenty of indoor seating (with Big Screen TV's) and even more outdoor seating. The spinach spatzel and Kielbasa were outstanding!

I had hoped that it would offer a high class experience, but it was just okay. The room had some minor aesthetic touches, but in substance was pretty standard. The entrance to the hotel felt a bit cramped, and the building seemed centered around the restaurant that didn't have much for me. The sheets caused some skin irritation, and I wish all hotels used the most hypoallergenic detergent available. From a service perspective, it was quite good. I was offered an early checkin and also took a late checkout, so I got a ton of time with the room. They also stored my luggage, including various baked goods, after I was done. So I got a lot of value out of the room. The question to me was how this hotel would compare to the others that are in downtown Charlottesville; would the experience be worth a bit more than the more standard Marriotts or various others. I was not convinced that it would be worth spending the extra money on.

Squeaky clean hardwood floors all over. Tasteful old furniture. Every staff member I spoke to was polite, courteous, and happy to help. The self serve stations for hot coffee, tea, and cold water was a convenient resource outside of the door. This inn appears to be made of several former homes that were turned into a campus of buildings making the Oakhurst Inn. It's not a single building. The small lawn in the center of the complex has benches, hammock, and a fireplace that seems welcoming and nice, but I wasn't aware of them until I left. There were a few problems during my stay. The inn requires guests to use valet parking which is $40 per night, not disclosed before my stay, and often required a long wait for the valet to return. This makes it hard to retrieve anything you need from your car. The front desk staff are often missing from the front desk - I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come back and check me in on arrival. Likewise, the bartender is often away from station and you might wait 10 or 30 minutes for the bartender to return. There is no mini fridge or microwave in the hotel rooms. The pool area was extremely dark at night, making it tricky or dangerous to navigate. The pool water was lukewarm, not warm at all. The sauna was out of order and the doorway was small and obscured by chairs. Not accessible and difficult to find. This inn has no gym. The lobby is very small and has no seating for guests or places to hang their luggage, although the nearby lounge has a few leather couches and a fireplace that doesn't appear to be working. Not the most welcoming or convenient. Overall I don't think it's worth the hefty price tag and would stay elsewhere when I return to Charlottesville.

We learned that this location has more service than the one we're familiar with. They'll fill your water for you vs self service. There are two floors to work on and a rooftop. We chose to work in the kitchen space on the second floor. The design and decor here is gorgeous. I found myself wishing I could take some of the artwork home. Just like our Common House back in Richmond, they offer member events. They sounded so fun I considered driving back to Cville just to experience them. While we were there, we ordered some food. The food we got was beyond delicious. I'd argue even better than the RVA food. The menus vary based on location. I got a delicious miso salmon bowl. My body was craving something like it and I was thrilled when I found out how delicious it tasted. My boyfriend got a grilled cheese and loved each bite. When you're a member you usually get a $25 credit for your birthday (which we used towards lunch), however this location went above and beyond and brought Richard a complimentary chocolate cheesecake without blinking twice. However, this past year things really started going downhill. There has been a huge staff turnover, including several staff members who were really the life and soul of the place. Common House has not been able to keep a chef for more than a few months, which has lead to a lot of hit or miss dining experiences. The free coffee, which was a big perk during coworking days, is no more. There have also been several private events that caused full house closures to members. The final nail in the coffin for me was having my membership fee raised not once but twice over the course of a year. The first time ($25 increase) I was given ample notice. The second I was given no notice and just saw an additional $35 on my credit card. When I inquired about why my monthly membership fee had been increased I was given no response. With this, I decided my time at Common House has run its course and canceled my membership. This has seemed like the perfect "third space" for remote young professionals like myself, but it seems that in the last few months several others have had the same thoughts I had and decided to leave. It will always be a cool space, but the current management leaves a lot to be desired.
