    Coconut shortbread cookies
    Ryan M.

My cousin ordered a few things before she left and got me some of their Coconut Shortbread cookies. They were so good! I liked the coconut shortbread from Big Island Candies, but these are much better. Theres a small dollop of passion fruit preserve right in the middle of it, it adds just a little splash of Aloha to it. The texture is buttery and crispy and has a nice coconut flavor. You have to order BY PHONE a few days in advance, don't use the form online to place an order, be sure you talk to a person. Us the website to see what products they have, but order by phone a few days ahead because they bake to order. The process is a little cumbersome because you can't just walk in and pick some up, there's a little planning involved. They are also a little pricy but so are other omiyage and other shortbread products from other companies. Its definitely a premium product. I can't wait to order the other products next time im in Hawaii.

    Yum! Guava squares and shortbread.

Prancer, get over there to help Dancer with the ordnance! Comet, run diagnostics on the targeting sights, we don't want another fudgy incident like last season. Dasher and Cupid, start on the preflight checklist. Blitzen, pack the snacks for inflight refueling and no, for the last time you can't eat the lemon bars, we're delivering those! Donner, make sure he doesn't eat them. Where in this maze of bread loafs did Rudolph go? Ho Ho Ho! It's that time of the year again, when all the good office workers get delicious fatty carb basket bombs dropped on them from Santa, I mean Kapuakea Products. Kapuakea offers a wide variety of delicious, fresh baked products from banana poi loaf, ginger pumpkin loaf, lilikoi lemon bars, guava raspberry mac nut squares, mini Kona coffee fudge brownies, shortbread cookies, and several more. To be brutally honest, this delivery is the icing on top of the train that wrecks my holiday diet. My office typically gets the Pikake basket from our adoring fans, which comes with three loaves of various types, brownies, guava raspberry mac nut squares, lemon bars and more. It never survives more than three days. If that. My personal favorite is the lilikoi lemon bars as they hit the right balance of tart to sweet, with a smooth texture and good crust base. The Kona coffee fudge brownies are little squares of chocolate delight you really can't go wrong with. As for the loaves of bread, both the banana poi and ginger pumpkin are soft, tasty, with a nice top crust of sugar to seal the deal. The guava raspberry mac nut squares are a good break from the loaves as they offer a contrasting, but still delicious taste. So long holiday diet, you put up a good fight, but you're no match for this bakery. There aren't preservatives (or much) in these baked goods, so eat them quick (or freeze), but I doubt you or your giftee will have a problem with that. Kapukea offers ala cart loaves, bars, and cookies or you can go with one of their basket choices, including a custom gift box. The store offers delivery if you can't make it down to their Kakaako shop. Parking in the lot is a handful of stalls, which can be a mess given the demand for street parking, but there is a paid parking complex nearby. Don't be afraid to step on the gas and train wreck someone's holiday diet with these delicious baked goods!

THE BEST LILIKOI LEMON BARS ON THE PLANET!!!! The buttery crust, with the sweet, not tart, lilikoi/lemon filing, the crust to filing ratio is spot on... lightly dusted with powdered sugar and cut into almost bite size pieces and individually wrapped. Perfect for snack sneaking, you can hide it in your desk drawers, I guaranty, you won't want to share. Just be sure to dust your mouth from the powdered sugar.

I keep forgetting about this wonderful bread and cookie/bar company especially because you need to pre-order ahead of time. It's been awhile since I ordered but I was fortunate to receive a bag of Lilikoi Lemon bars as a gift! What makes it so special is the bag goodies are individually packaged and it's usually a dozen in a bag. The pieces are small square size but just enough to have a delicious bite right after a meal.. I think I liked the Lilikoi Lemon bars the best. It has a nice sweetness from the lilikoi but the tartness from the lemon on a cookie crust. They have a Kona Fudge brownie but it's a little rich and fudgy for me but it actually tasted yummy refrigerated. Of course you should keep all of the items refrigerated after a couple of days since it's perishable w/ no preservatives. They also have two types of cookies you can order and they are 12 individually wrapped cookies in a bag. The loaf breads are popular like Ginger Pumpkin, banana poi and this double chocolate cake w/ nuts. These breads makes nice gifts for the holidays. When my friend ordered the banana poi bread recently they informed me a day before if they had enough poi to make her bread. Depends on the availability of the poi and they had many orders for that day. They do basket orders so it's best to put in your order early. Usually they need to fill the basket orders first with the bread. Orders for the month of December to just before Christmas, you would need to order by the November 1 or 2 so you can pretty much guaranteed your order filled. You will also be charged in advance for your December order on your credit card at the time of your order. Other times they just need your credit card info just Incase you don't pick up your order by the agreed pick up date and will be charged. You can pay by cash or card at the time of pick up. There are two stalls assigned for their bakery which is right in front of their store. The lady who took my phone order and helped in the front was really nice, helpful and efficient. I believe she does the baking too. November is coming soon so think of anyone you want to bless with these wonderful loaf breads or treats for the upcoming Holidays. Thanks for reading =)

Kapuakea Products is perfect to give away as gifts or to treat yourself. You have to order 48 hours in advance, there are only a handful of packaged products, and parking can be a challenge but somehow that makes these treats more special because of the inconvenience. The Banana Poi and Ginger Pumpkin loaves are moist, dense, and topped with sugar that gives a bit of crunch and extra sweetness. The banana, and ginger and pumpkin flavors shine through. The Lilikoi Lemon Bars are sweet, not tart, and have a soft, thick crust. I prefer tart, but that's just me. Each one comes individually packaged which makes them great to use for favors and adds to your shame as you munch on one after another. Check out their website for gift basket options and a full list of their cookies, bars, loaves and a brownie.

Behold the double chocolate Mac nut loaf. If you love chocolate this is for you! Over one pound weight :) Share, bruddah, share!
    Ric C.

"Delicious delights by the bite" Bruddah Darrell P's recent ROTD for this shop reminded me of their dessert delights that I have not had in a long time. Looking at the Yelp listing further I saw that Sistahs Jennifer S. and Aneisa D. also gave strong recommendations for Kapuakea goodies. In fact Kapuakea received five stars all the way down the line. Small sample size, but nonetheless impressive. They do not have a walk-in business, but rather you must pre-order for a later pick up. You get fresh stuff and they recommend you refrigerate the goodies asap to lengthen the freshness of the baked goods because they use NO preservatives. They recommend consuming within 2-5 days so it won't get stale. Their stuff is so good, this shouldn't be an issue, just understand the caloric implications and plan accordingly. "Eh! No be one piggy, share da treats with da Ohana :)." So I picked up some goodies for my nephew for his weekend flight back to NYC. The fruit bars were of course the snack of choice. Not wanting to leave the shop without some stuff for us, I also bought the fruit bars for da kid since he was here for da weekend and also the double chocolate Mac loaf bread for us. No one in the past reviews has commented on this chocolate loaf and I wasn't sure why. It is the most expensive loaf and I'm guessing the richest tasting offering and more cake tasting than bread tasting. Me and da boss are true chocoholics so it was without hesitation we picked one up. The double chocolate Mac nut loaf is good! The buggah is over one pound in weight and has a great chocolate taste. The chopped Mac nuts and the almond syrup really add to the richness of the loaf. This is a perfect loaf cake to warm up and eat with ice cream and is very moist. I'm not going to estimate the calorie implications of this dessert "bread" but having this with vanilla ice cream and a cup of black coffee makes the perfect after-meal trifecta to satisfy any sweet tooth. And the fruit bars? Had to go with the lilikoi lemon flavored ones and they were delicious. Just like how I remember them. They are individually sealed and placed in a resealable bag, a dozen to a bag. They serve several other desserts, cookies and other loaf flavor options that I'm anxious to try. Mahalos to Bruddah Darrell P for posting his review and to Yelp for making it an ROTD of his review so my inner cravings could surface once again and I could remember to grab those special dessert offerings from Kapuakea Products. Swell people, great desserts, I'll be back for more :).

Everything is pre-order only and it takes a few days because they make everything fresh. They sell baked goods like bars and loaves, specializing in Hawaiian known flavors like lilikoi, guava, macadamia nut, and poi. One thing that you should know is that everything is very sweet --they put powdered sugar on almost everything (not like a sprinkle but a layer of powdered sugar). I ordered almost one of each item because I wanted to take some back to Las Vegas. My parents loved the pumpkin and banana/poi loaves the best. I liked the guava raspberry macadamia nut squares. Here's my review of them all: Ginger pumpkin bread - sweet, moist and just the perfect amount of spices. There is no "wow" factor and I think it tastes really similar to the pumpkin loaf at Starbucks Coffee Banana poi loaf - I guess it's like a twist on a traditional banana nut loaf. I taste the banana more so I was kinda bummed because I love poi. Similar to the pumpkin loaf, it's just as moist and sweet Guava raspberry macadamia nut squares - It has the perfect amount of sweetness and crunch. There is a layer of frosting(?) on top, a layer of the jelly in the middle, and powdered sugar everywhere Liliko'i lemon bars - this is overhyped. It tastes like a normal lemon bar, but with a touch of liliko'i and a LAYER of powdered sugar that leaves an after taste on your tongue. Not that impressed Coconut shortbread cookies - least favorite. It has a good crunch but no "wow factor." The flavor and texture is very plain. The shortbread cookies from the Honolulu Cookie Company is better in my opinion.

After searching high and low for what to get for a special occasion be it cupcakes or cheesecake, I found this place and after reading Jennifer S. and Aneisa D's reviews I decided to give it a shot. First off its not a bakery and if you walk in thinking you can get stuff off hand you will be disappointed. You'll need to place your order a few days ahead of time. My order was ready when I got here. There was only one super nice lady in there running around filling orders so if you call and it rings for a while you'll know why because it was ringing off the hook when I was there. The Ginger Pumpkin Bread and The Banana Poi bread is super freaking moist. You definitely gonna want some milk with this stuff. There's a lot of sugar on the top of these loaves but it doesn't mean you have to eat it. Just turn it to its side and dust it off whatever you can or just have at it if you don't mind the sugar. I love Lemon bars and this Lilikoi Lemon Bar didn't have the tangy punch I expected but it was still really ono and thicker than the crust. The Kona Coffee Fudge Brownies were just as they described with just a subtle taste of coffee. It wasn't overpowering the Fudge flavor. These were really sweet like shimmy sweet after eating a few. I'm a Lemon Bar Fan but this Guava Raspberry Mac Nut has to be my favorite. It was a little more tangy and after being in the fridge until the next day the crust took on a doughy texture that really made it stand out. Idk why but the Lilikoi Lemon Bar didn't do that. There's twelve to a bag for each of these flavors. So if its not for you, you should get some anyways because you'll wish you did. Located just off Ward Ave in the industrial area side street. I had no idea this place was here since I drive past here often. There's about four to five stalls in the front. This side street has next to no parking on the road unless someone drops you off.

I tried the butter mochi this past visit and it was good. It always amazes me the ladies who take your order and don't write it down and somehow get it right. I can see one or two things but my wife likes to order 5-6 things. I've been lucky to go when no one was in line (a rainy day) and have waited in line for over 30 minutes. This past visit was only about 20 minutes. I guess it's a roll of the dice. After Char Hung Sut closed many years back this has been my go to for Manapua.

The pepeau was also flavorful and the pouch was light and delicious, not overly thick and chewy. There was a baked triangle filled with a pork filling. The pastry was light and delightful. The mochi rice pockets were especially enjoyable and a new favorite for me! Yum! And the custard tarts were fresh, not too much crust, and of the crust, it was light and flaky! Very well done! Will tell family and friends about this most tasty bakery and stop by again on our own! Woo hoo!

It's a cute little shop with benches facing the windows to people watch. It was hard to pick one item, but I ended up trying the Char Siu Croissant. I loved the flavors combining the sweet glaze and the savory meat. It's now one of my go-to weekend treats!

All three parts of this business deserve 5 stars, so I wanted to break it down:…read more Butcher: I've been making an effort to buy more local produce and meat, and this has been such a great spot for it. Every butcher I've interacted with has been patient and genuinely helpful, especially when explaining different cuts of beef. I'm not a fan of cleaning chicken myself, so I really appreciate that they'll remove skin and bones in-house (you still pay for it, and they'll ask if you want to keep the scraps). Another big plus is that the meat is fresh, unlike a few other places I've visited that only carry frozen options. Bakery: I can't come here without grabbing a sweet treat. They offer a mix of sweet and savory pastries, and honestly, I haven't had a bad one yet. I don't have a single favorite because they've all been consistently good. In my opinion, they're best enjoyed the same day. They also offer seasonal and holiday pre-orders. Sandwich of the Day: The premade sandwiches start at 11am and are made with about 90% house-made ingredients, served on their focaccia. As someone who loves a good sandwich, this did not disappoint. There are a few seats inside but I usually take everything to go so I can get my meat into the fridge.

It must be from their fryer or something. Nevertheless it was light, fluffy, fresh, warm to my tummy. We also got the hazelnut cake. However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii?
