Great restaurant if you're in the mood for Korean/Chinese. In the past I've come here for their Jjam bbong, this past Sunday, especially with the hot weather, I was in search of mul nangmyun. I am super picky about my mul nangmyun and haven't found a restaurant that does it right. Kangchon does it right! I also order an order of galbi and my girlfriend got the Jjam bbong. The nangmyun had a good base broth before adding the vinegar and spicy mustard. Nothing flashy, noodles, veggies, meat, hard boiled egg, slice of pear, and icy broth. I will be going back for their nangmyun anytime I crave it in the Centreville area. The Jjam bbong was on point as always, good flavor and TONS of seafood and noodles. I challenge anyone to finish the bowl in it's ENTIRETY in one sitting. The galbi was okay but definitely overpriced (I just needed the galbi/nangmyun combo). I give it 4/5 because the banchan was very underwhelming and the galbi being average and over priced. The service was good and from time to time the owner is walking around checking and seeing how every tastes and how the customers are doing. Pretty big portions for the price! We thought the jajamyun was good for take out and not having to re-heat it over a stove top. We got the large order (I think it was like $12) and it was enough for 2 people! We also got the fried beef and it was quite tough. I don't think I'll order that again. Nice restaurant to take family, a date or friends. The restaurant was very nice inside with gorgeous wall hangings. The staff are very welcoming and warm. They gave us the small side dishes and these were amazing especially the kimchi. It has the right kind of heat and tasted very fresh. My kids loved the fish cakes with onions and creamy slaw that I've never seen in any Korean restaurant I've frequented in the past. The pickled daikon was nice with the right acidity and freshness. After glancing at the menu and what I know about this kind of food, I thought the dishes were serve family style. So with that in mind, we ordered the plate of LA gabi but it is more like a 1person portion size with rice and Asian slaw. The meal wasn't hot but the service was fast. The meat had a good taste but I wanted a little more sauce on it. The price for it is a bit high. We also got the potato noodles, not the big size and that was expected. It was good. The pork in it were cut very thin and the assortment of mushrooms was excellent and unexpected. Wish I had ordered the family size because you do not need the rice with the noodles. We also got an order of steamed dumplings. It was good but no dipping sauce so we just used the soy sauce that was on the table. Was there supposed to be one? Overall, the restaurant is great. Pretty nice stop for Korean food. Came in with a friend as a stop on our way to DC. Was recommended by a friend due to the variety of dishes available, which is true! Were seated immediately; restaurant is spacious and clean. My friend ended up getting a kimchi jjigae and I got a ddok mandu guk. Food came out pretty quickly and we were both satisfied by our meal. My friend did end up getting kind of chewy meat, hence 4/5 stars. My soup was flavorful, beef was good however didn't get too much. Dumplings were good too. Price was good for the food too. Dropped in on a craving for Korean-Chinese food, and it certainly delivered, even satisfying my boyfriend (who has high standards for Korean-Chinese food) We got the Samsun Jjajang and beef tangsooyuk, and the Jjajang really shined. It was saucy enough to coat the noodles thoroughly, and had a slightly charred, seafoody satisfactory taste that I look for in a good bowl. The noodles were chewy and held the sauce well. The tangsooyuk, on the other hand, was pretty average. Definitely less sweet than I'm used to, but I didn't mind. I do wish that the vegetables had been cooked a bit and softened in the sauce, they didn't complement the fried pieces of beef like they usually do, and felt more like an afterthought. The beef pieces were nicely fried and big chunks, however, which redeemed the vegetables. I also wish that there had been a little more sauce, since I like it poured over and thoroughly coating each piece. I've passed by Kangchon so many times on 29 and I finally got a chance to try it during my friend's birthday dinner. Our party of 6 was able to be seated immediately even though they were pretty busy. Our servers were attentive and friendly. We got a combination of bibimbap, seafood pancake, bulgogi, and LA galbi. We order from here many times, but unfortunately this will be the last. I placed my order over the phone and headed over 15 minutes later. I was about to walked in, but noticed a group of people eating at the table closest to the front entrance. Being immuno-compromised, I called and asked if I would be able to pay over the phone. The woman who answered said they don't offer curbside and that payment cannot be made over the phone. I explained that I didn't feel comfortable going inside with the group of maskless people by the door and her response was "WHY ARE YOU MAKING THINGS DIFFICULT?" I mean, that's what I wanted to ask her!! I was making a simple request. Shocked by her response and wanting to get out of the situation as quickly as possible I told her I would just go inside. When I walked in, a short-haired woman approached me, confirmed my order, took my credit card to process payment. All this took less than 5 minutes, but honestly it felt much longer. As a business owner myself, I'm aware that there's a higher merchant fee for manually entered transactions- I'm assuming this is why she wouldn't accept my payment over the phone. It's not like she was busy, the phone wasn't ringing and the only dine-in customers were the ones near the front door. Given the situation I think it's really important as a business to make reasonable modifications to accommodate customers especially during a Pandemic for those who are immuno-compromised. They could have simply offered to come out and take my credit card if they didn't want to take payment over the phone. They also gave us an extra order and charged us for it. Solid solid tasting food. I had jajangmyun and tangsuyuk last night. It was delicious. Now having tried jajangmyun in the motherland of Seoul, South Korea which is by far the tastiest I've had - finding good areas that serve this dish is difficult. I might specify, in the US. Great customer service. About a month ago, my wife was sick and I stopped by to pickup her favorite Korean soup. The ladies at Kangchon were very nice and wrapped everything so as not to spill on my 30 minute ride back home. They also provided some extra sides items. On a recent order about a week or so ago for a sick family, again the ladies at Kangchon were wonderful to pack up the soups so as not to spill in the car. The food there is always tasty. This place reminds me of Palisades Park, NJ (home of the 2nd best Korean food in the US) where you can find Korean restaurants that serve a wide variety of dishes that are all pretty solid. Portions here are large. All the food is pretty tasty. The one gripe I had was the unfriendliness and stinginess of the server we had. So I was sitting at a table with about 10 people. 8 of the people ordered Korean-Chinese dishes while the two other people (myself included) ordered Korean dishes. When the banchan (side dishes) came out, they only brought out the two side dishes normally given for Korean-Chinese cuisine. I looked around and I saw other tables have 6-7 side dishes for their Korean dishes. When I asked the server to bring out the Korean banchan, she gave me a nasty look and was about to argue back when I just cut her off and told her that I got a Korean dish so I wanted Korean side dishes to go with it. She then proceeded to bring out just two more side dishes. I didn't want to make a scene so I just ate what was given but I didn't think that was cool. I think this is long overdue review, we went here a couple months ago. Tree people, the bill came out around $120, we left 10% tips, as we see that the service was giving us water take the food order, and then clean up the table. There's no extra asking for anything. We pay our bills and was about to be on our way. The lady came out and circle the 15% tips on the bill. Easily say I do amuse the ask. So I won't be back ever again. This place will always have a special place in my heart. Been going here for years with mostly my parents and other relatives but I even had my post wedding rehearsal meal here. It's not the fanciest place but the service is great and the food never disappoints. I highly recommend the spicy squid, deep fried chicken and the mussel soup. Prices are reasonable and they have a ton of variety. It's also right next to a Korean supermarket so great for doing a little grocery shopping. Honestly, the customer service isn't that great.. but the food is tasty! This is probably one of my favorite Chinese-Korean places in Centreville. I usually get the jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) but I've also had the LA ribs, the jjambbong (spicy seafood soup), and a couple of the appetizers. Their take-out is pretty efficient and they give it to you in an enormous cardboard box so all the food is secure and won't move around when you drive home. I feel as if they go pretty heavy on the MSG because I always break out after I eat their food but I still eat it anyway because it's tasty. read more

This is a place you should share dishes but they have single serving soups etc. The fun part though are the communal stews on a hot day with noodles and seafood accompanied dishes. I found this in the kimchi they provided for takeout. I was almost done with the kimchi when I found this towards the end. I called to tell them that I found a fruit fly (or whatever this is) in my kimchi, and the first thing that they told me is "fruit fly? The really tiny one? We haven't seen any of those here". Then I told them that it wasn't just in the container, it was in between the pieces, stuck onto the piece. They said they can't give a refund since the fly wasn't on the food and the kimchi is provided for free. I told them that I didn't call to ask for a refund but finding a bug in the food that you're almost done eating is an extremely unpleasant experience. At this point they still have not yet apologized, and said "well what do you want us to do?" I told them that I just wanted to let them know that this really ruined my appetite, and they finally said "we didn't mean to put the fly in there, we're sorry that this happened. We haven't seen one around so I don't know how that happened, but we'll take better care of it next time". The food was fine, but I am disappointed in their customer service and quality. read more

Man I love this place! I came here about 3 times and every single time I have never been disappointed. Everything I've eaten had been the bomb.com. Ugh. Particularly the Jjambbong, Soondooboo, Pajeon, and jjajjangmyun. Not to mention their portions are ginormous. Got the sam sun jjambbong today and I thought my ginormous bowl was going overflow. This place does not know what skimping means. Even my shrimp was pealed and deveined lol which they usually are just left whole with the head on. With the big portions, what takes it all home is that their flavors are always on point as well. I know this place is hidden around the corner of a huge building, but don't look over it and stop by. I stopped by here last night on a whim and on the hunt for some jja jjang myun (cheap black bean noodles with onions and potato and little meat things). The location is a little around the way in that it is behind the party depot close to where the old G-mart used to be. We got there around 7:30pm and the place was packed with only two non-Korean diners. Others said the service was blunt and rude, I thought it was fine and fast, although I don't speak korean. We were in and out of there in 35 minutes. I thought the jja jjang myun was really good, I think better than the place I go to in Annandale (underneath the Wells Fargo), but its been a while since I've been there. A bowl of the regular jja jjang is about $5 and the seafood one is $8 I think. If you want your jja jjang fix and live out the 66w corridor, I would recommend this place. I would give five stars based on their jja jjang but I think I will have to return to try more of their food before I let them have the last star. Their other dishes are served family style and looked both enormous and delicious as they passed by. read more

I had the dolsot bibimbap and Ellen had the tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was very dry and definitely not worth the price of the meal. It was seasoned well enough, but I suspect it's a frozen, mass produced pork patty they simply reheat. The bibimbap was good, but then it's kind of hard to mess up bibimbap. I'd say it was about average and not really extraordinary. The bibimbap at the H-Mart in Centreville is just as tasty, but cheaper. The banchan was about average too. The pickled cucumber with onion was our favorite. We mistakenly asked two separate waitresses to bring extra of our favorite, the first brought us extra and then the second waitress. But the 2nd waitress on seeing we were already given extra, took away what she brought and said we couldn't have any more. In all my life of eating Korean food I've never been denied extra banchan. That was just too bizarre. We enjoyed our meal enough that we think we'll be back. The food is average at best so I don't quite understand the draw; the parking lot is packed most days. First of all, Kangchon was a struggle for me to find using GoogleMaps! It's on the side/behind Anytime Fitness, just a heads up. I came here on a Sunday evening and the place was filled with Koreans of my parents' age, that looked like they had just returned from golfing/hiking. Just ate gan cha chang and dumplings. It was so salty, it was really impossible to eat. Waitress brought me extra noodles and said they'll make a new one if still very salty. It was still very salty but decided to put sauce on the side and eat mostly noodles, because noodles were good. This is the place to go in Centreville if you're craving Korean/Chinese but don't have a specialty in mind. They have all the standards: bibimbap, different jjigaes, pajeon/pancakes, Korean bbq platters, and even jjampong/jjajangmyeun. Their jjajangmyeun isn't the best I've had, and while the jjampong broth lacks flavor, all the toppings sure make up for it. Jjigaes are very good here (especially budae jjigae). Steamed dumplings are nice and plump but a bit bland in flavor (no sauce included, and was told by the waitress to just use bottled soy sauce. Um, ok then). Recently they've started serving complimentary steamed mussels, so that's definitely a plus! Kangchon is hidden in the corner of the shopping plaza close to Lotte, so it's harder to find/not as well known compared to the other numerous Korean restaurants in the area. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I've been to Kangchon a couple of times and both experiences have been amazing. My first visit was with a party of two and I was blown away by the portion sizes and excellent service. The second time was with a group of 8. After being told there was a 2 hour wait at another Korean restaurant, I recommended going to Kangchon and it was the perfect decision! First, there was only a 20 minute wait. On a Saturday night, with a party of 8, this was too good to be true!! We arrived to a packed house. Despite how busy they were, the staff was nothing but gracious and patient. They seated us well before 20 minutes was up and promptly provided water and menus. We ordered tons of food that was hot, delicious, and they didn't skimp on the portions. Nobody could finish their plates. On top of that, they were so generous that they gave us 3 bowls of mussels (FOR FREE!), which were tender and fragrant. Had lunch with the family while visiting DC area... We walked in and this place was packed and busy at 2pm on Sunday.... thankfully we have reservation... got seated and menus came... since everyone already know what to get, we placed the order. I went with Sam Sun Chompong (extra seafood spicy noodle) and Jjajangmyun.... granted we also order other foods items, including kangpunggi and tangsuyuk. Kangpunggi - their version is red color... it's not spicy but it was good... you can't compare their version to the original, but I prefer the original better. Their version was decent and I would order this dish again. Tangsuyuk - the pork was crispy, but the sauce was super gluey.... it was too thick and hardened with time... Not sure if I would get this dish again next time I visit. Jjajangmyun - it wasn't salty or sweet; reminded me of kanjjajang... if you get the cheaper version, then the sauce comes on top of the noodle (which reminds me of muljjajang - watery) I liked this disk and I would get both. Chompong - this dish is the reason for the 4 stars. The broth was excellent and I could drink that broth from morning til night. Plenty of seafood and the spice level was just perfect. I could eat this dish from here 3x a day!! Service - typical Korean... if you want anything yell or ring the bell to get attention. Parking - tons, but gets filled up. Kangchon is a hidden gem located in the corner in front of a Korean supermarket. The moment you step foot you can tell it is a mom and pop restaurant. Everyone is very hospitable and friendly. This is a Korean/Chinese fusion and I must say it works exceptionally well. The portions are massive so try to not order with your eyes! Overall the food taste as great as you would expect for it to be. The staff does elevate the dining experience. Tried this place for the first time with my dad and brother. We wanted to try something different from our usual go-to Korean restaurants. Our first impression was that the interior looked like every other Korean restaurant. We were greeted and seated right away, which was a plus. The menu is kind of all over the place, but we decided to try one of the "hot pots" and the bulgogi. The hot pot wasn't really hot pot since all of the ingredients came in it, but it was really tasty! A perfect spicy level for every member of my table and there were plenty of ingredients in the soup. Ours came with spam, sausage, beef, tofu, veggies, noodles, and rice cakes. The mix sounds weird but trust me, it works. The bulgogi was good, but it wasn't anything special. Our waitress was very attentive and keep checking up on us. Our waters were always filled and when we ran out of soup, the waitress would pour us more (which was so nice!). We'd probably come back to try the other soups, but I gave it a 3-stars because we weren't "blown away." Fairly average restaurant experience. read more
