I have had Dr. Kane as my Primary Physician for the better part of three years now and I have had nothing but positive experiences with both him and Robin. Robin is kind and diligent, but I can tell she will likely not tolerate rudeness or hostility, and rightly so. I would not know, as I have never approached her with anything but kindness and respect, and have been given nothing but kindness and respect in turn. Dr. Kane is knowledgeable, open, insightful, a great conversationalist, and does not rush to conclusions on any diagnoses, prescriptions, or recommendations. When I approached him with a concern and possible "self-diagnosis", he ran all of the appropriate tests and went above and beyond to make sure we figured out the issue. Beyond the standard medical tests, he had me do some further research (including a couple of book recommendations) and I then came back to him to review the test results and talk about what I had seen and learned through his recommended readings and research. Only then did he make any sort of diagnosis. He then continued to work with me to make sure how I was approaching any treatment went beyond simply having the right prescription. I highly recommend Dr. Kane to anyone looking for a new PCP! read more

Dr Kane is a great Dr , after reading all theses reviews, people complaining etc. my experience has been great. His staff always remains professional at all times. My husband and I have no issues with this facility. As a matter of fact, he's the first Dr in the IE that ever cared to listen to my medical concerns and is there to quickly run exams ; never pushed back like other Drs I've been too! As a medical professional in private practice, I know that the office staff is as important as the doctor to the patients experience. I liked and respected Dr. Kane, his knowledge, diagnoses and bedside manner. Unfortunately, to get to him, you have to go through the Window Witch, Robin. She has, at best, been civil. Dr.Kane is super nice. Great bed side manner, very knowledgeable, if your looking for a great doctor. Dr. Kane is it. My whole family uses him as our primary. I like him because he doesn't try to prescribe a lot of medicine. He will have you try all natural first for a lot of things. So, I read the other reviews about the terrible office staff but people had good things to say about Dr. Kane so I went in to see him. The problem is, while Dr. Kane is great the office is so terrible that it's beyond just an annoyance, it actually negatively impacts the care I receive. I won't go back and see them again, and I'd urge anyone reading this to keep looking...you can do better. That's the short version, if you want to see the specifics of my situation: I saw Dr. Kane, and showed him a particular medical device I was interested in that required a prescription. He looked at the product and said he'd be happy to write one for me. Great! Easy, right? Well there was a link the office had to follow to fill out some info in order to get the prescription, so I told the doctor I'd email the link to his office and he gives me their email address. On 3/13 I send the email with the link. By 4/10 (almost a month later!) I hadn't heard back, so I call the office and talk to the nurse. She tells me to email the link again, so I do. By 5/2 I still had not heard back from anyone so I sent a follow up email, which they didn't reply to. On 5/11 (a Friday) I still haven't heard back from anyone. I called the office and now both the nurse and Dr. Kane are going to be out until Tuesday so I have to call back then. Folks, it has been almost two months and still nothing. This should have been super easy, it's just a link they have to follow and fill in some super basic info but they can't seem to get it done. I'm not asking for them to drop what they're doing but seriously, two months? UPDATE - So I found out they actually filled out the forms for the prescription shortly after my 4/10 email. But...they didn't tell me! So I had been waiting and following up since April just be cause they neglected to tell me the prescription was authorized. read more

Dr. Kane has been our family physician for over 20 years. I have no idea what we will do if he ever retires. He is wonderful and keeps up to date on the latest medical issues and treatments. His staff is also outstanding and quick to assist. read more

As much as I want to say I wanted to go here that was short lived. The front desk devil Robin who answered was not only rude but answered none of my questions even after I did everything that was asked of me to switch my doctor. She then told me the doctor would not take me as a patient. I will be filing a complaint with whoever needs to hear it. She continued to hang up on me multiple times. Despite the glaring reviews of Robin, the front office staff, I went ahead and made a first time appointment with Dr. Kane in order to make him my primary physician. Let me just say that as of today, Robin has been nothing but helpful and kind when dealing with my appointment making and questions. I could see where she would be quick to knock a knot in your head if you cross her, but she has been nothing but kind to me. Dr. Kane is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, but I don't feel as if I will be back. Nothing against him, I just didn't feel as if I was heard before I was given a diagnosis. He seems very wise, so I am not questioning him in any way, but I feel as if some more background could have been heard before a conclusion was made, which turned out to be not the case. However, I would still recommend Dr. Kane to anyone who likes to think outside the box when it comes to their own health and would like for a doctor to do the same. read more

This doctor is an amazing doctor. He's knowledgeable, and caring. His back office nurse is so nice. His front office nurse is very rude. I heard this doctor has lost a lot of patients thru the years because of her and she argue's with many patients. It's too bad when 75% of the staff is great and the other 25% trys to weigh the whole team down, and it affects the perception of the office as a whole. I guess people are less worried about being professional. I knew this would happen, the front office lady was so rude, this doctor is no longer my primary. I had went in to obtain results and the the front office clerk (with an attitude) told me we'll be back at 1:00. She wanted me to wait a whole hour and a half just for results. A back office nurse overheard and called me back, gave me a print out, all of which took 30 seconds. I went in for the last time and again the front office clerk, told me I owed a bill of $50. That was no problem. I asked to see the bill and was told, that I'd have to come back at 1:00 when the book keeper arrived. Why would I drive another 45 mins twice? I explained, how could she demand me to pay the bill at that time, without an explanation. She told me to pay the bill or I would not be seen. I gave her a piece of my mind and never went back. I really liked this doctor as we are both veterans. read more

I too was a long time patient of Dr. Kane, I left Riverside for awhile and when I returned, he had left the Old House and was located in Raincross Bldg. I got an appointment on return and got established with my needs. I was so thrilled to get back to him (thought he may not be taking on new patients). I remember from the beginning that Robin (who is not a Nurse, as she tries to make you believe) was unfriendly on the phone when I made my appointment. Did not care as I was going to see Dr. Kane. As time went on, I would show up for an appointment and Robin would tell me that my appointment was earlier that day. I would not have booked that time as I was caring for my ex-husband with Parkinson's. Same thing on other appts...wrong day. No appt made, Etc, Etc, Etc! Hmm, a might bit suspiciouus. For some reason she disliked me??? Always tried to be respectful and nice to her but to no avail. Finally, I had seen Dr. K. one week before, and forgot to ask him for a referral to a Dr. he had referred me before so I thought that I could call and ask for the referral with no problem. Robin says that they will not do that without me seeing the Dr. I explained how I just saw him but forgot to ask for referral. you have to make an appt she says. I asked to speak with the Nurse and Robin told me that the nurse did not want to talk with me. I said OK, just give me an appt and I will discuss this with Dr. when I see him. She said What did you say! Then placed me on hold. Came back to phone and said that she talked with Dr. Kane and he will be droppiing you as a patient and you need to find another Dr. I was upset but my sister-in-law went on line and found Andro Sharobiem,MD Internest. He is the best thing that could have happened to me. Robin did me a favor. And Dr. Sharobiem's staff in above excelllent and very very pleasant. My husband and I have been patients for many years and agree that he is the best doctor we've ever had! He is gentle, informative, and listens to us. However, his office staff is sometimes offputting and I think he really should take steps to make improvements there. No bedside manner at the receptionist desk. They have been rude, non-responsive and have refused to check with the doctor when asked. Phone conversations can be particularly problematic. I wish there were a way to reach Dr. Kane directly outside of an appointment. His gatekeepers aren't doing him any favors. read more

Dr. Kane came highly recommended to us from Nextdoor, a neighborhood website, when we moved here a little over a year ago. We found him to be a wonderful doctor. In April, while in the process of switching from Medicare to my husband's policy, I was unable to see any of my specialists at their cash rates, so I scheduled a cash appt with Robin, the front office receptionist, and explained why I was coming in and why I needed to pay cash, and that I would let her know at the end of the appeal which insurance she could bill for the visit (the appeal was supposed to take about two weeks, but ended up taking over three months, and I lost). When I arrived for my cash appt, the nurse asked why I was being seen, and I told her the same things I had told Robin - chronic headaches that were getting worse, worsening insomnia, and increasing stress, partly due to the nightmare I was going through with Medicare, which wouldn't cover anything, including things they used to cover prior to 2016. He asked what my specialist prescribed for my anxiety, I told him Xanax ER, i mg in the morning and .5 mg in the evening. He told me he wanted me to take Trazadone for sleep. I told him I didn't want to take it, as it's a psychotropic, and I had spent 20+ years on multiple psychotropics for a diagnosis that was incorrect, and now am limited on what meds work and don't work. His reply - it's not addictive, and it will help me sleep. He didn't want to prescribe anything for my headaches before reviewing the CT scan my pain mgmt dr (who he referred me to) had recently done. Since it was a Friday, I had to wait till Monday to hear back. In the meantime, he called in tht Trazadone, but not the Xanax ER, so I called and spoke to his nurse. When I picked up my prescriptions, he had called in regular Xanax, 1 mg, twice a day. It didn't do anything - I took one, got no relief, never took another. On Monday, his nurse called and said the CT didn't show anything, so I asked if he could call in a prescription for Tizanidine, a muscle relaxant, because I've taken it before and it helps, but it's not in Medicare's formulary so they will only cover Flexeril, which does nothing. Since I'm now paying cash, it doesn't matter that Medicare won't approve it. I also pointed out that he called in a wrong prescription for the Xanax. At this point, I am told I am not even allowed to make a follow-up appointment with him regarding these issues, "he isn't going to give you any more drugs!" by the front office receptionist, Robin. She refused to let me make an appointment. So I wrote a letter to Dr. Kane, explaining all that had happened. My husband persuaded me to wait till he saw him the end of the following week, and he would discuss it with him. He was being seen because the cholesterol medicine and Nexium he was prescribed was giving him memory loss, and he was concerned. So when he saw Dr. Kane, because of the memory loss, he forgot what he wsa supposed to talk to him about, so he just said "Lisa regrets what happened." Dr. Kane appparently had no idea what he was talking about, so I had him take the letter and the unused prescriptions to his office. He left the letter on Robin's desk, but not the medications, as the reception area is shared by four offices. He called later that day to see if the doctor had had a chance to read the letter, and was rudely told by Robin that Dr. Kane couldn't speak to him about this. My husband took this to mean because of HIPAA, so I went into the office the next day to add his name to my paperwork so they could speak legally. Robin was rude, made me wait five minutes before coming back and telling me my husband's name is already on the form. She wouldn't let me make an appointment, wouldn't look in the bottles which showed I hadn't taken the pills, and basically accused me at full volume of trying to pick a fight, humiliating me in public. Normally, Dr. Kane spends as much time as is needed, so Kirk made another appointment to get his medications changed, and when Dr. Kane came into the exam room, he asked if the doctor had had a chance to read my letter. Dr. Kane gave him three minutes, told him he was too busy to discuss it, and left. When I received my letter from Social Security stating I had lost my appeal, I called Robin and asked that she please bill Medicare for my cash visit, and was rudely told that she would "discuss" it with the bookkeeper, who won't be in until Thursday (today is Monday). I then called Anthem Medi Blue, who my insurance was with, and filed a grievance against Dr. Kane and Robin, by name, for patient abandonment, and told the girl at Anthem I needed them to intervene to get my refund, because I'm pretty sure if I hold my breath waiting for a call on Thursday, I'll have expired from anoxia before I see my $55 refund for that visit. What used to be a great doctor has, in my opinion as a nurse, become just one more quack, less interested in the welfare of his patients as in his staff members. read more

Front desk lady is awful, rude, worst customer service. Good luck trying to get an appointment. She'll tell you its 2 months out, even if you think you have a torn ACL or worsening eye injury like i had. I swear i couldn't schedule an appointment with her, and when i did, and after waiting a full 2months, they told me my appointment time had changed but no one notified me! She then tried to reschedule me 2 months later! So I've "had" Dr. Kane for 4 months now without actually meeting her thanks to the front desk lady. THey need to can her ASAP. I signed up to yelp and other Dr. Rating sites just to make this known because I'm so frustrated! I'd email and send a letter but i know she would filter it. read more

I actually created a Yelp account so that I could review this doctor's office. I am not reviewing Dr. Kane himself, as I have never seen or spoken to him. I am reviewing his rude and insensitive receptionist. The first time I spoke with this woman, she cut me off mid sentence and said, "You need to hold." She never picked the call back up. After holding for a few minutes, I hung up and called back. She had clearly forgotten that she left me on hold. I then, again, began explaining to her the reason I was calling, and again, she cut me off mid sentence to tell me that I needed to call another doctor's office. After speaking with the other doctor's office, I called back and unfortunately had to deal with the woman again. This time, she was downright rude and condescending. I sincerely hope that if I ever do need to be seen at this office, that she's out for the day. read more
