Dr. Couture is one of a kind. His staff is very professional and seem genuinely happy to work there. Dr. Couture, listens, spends time with his patients, and doesn't just treat the symptoms, he is looking at your entire medical history, to work to solve your overall health and well-being. He is nice at the first visit but then you will be ignored. He uses the receptionist as a telephone. He wont see you for follow ups. Hell have his nurses tell you whatever he wants to tell you. Its so un professional telling your medical info to his receptionist. Seemed legit but quickly learned that he isnt all he seems to be. Very bummed. Dont waste your time. read more

On the first visit, I thought I'd found a godsend. Caring, friendly, took his time, and listened to my concerns. However, every single visit after that was incredibly frustrating. I felt rushed, dismissed, and like none of my concerns mattered. His receptionists are also some of the worst I've dealt with at any medical office - why is Shawn's process to have you leave a message with them and then have them relay a message back to the patient? I think I called maybe 15-20 times over the last several years and not once did I feel that my message was competently or correctly passed along. I even specifically asked for Shawn to call me back and was told that he "doesn't do that." They also have no patient portal so I don't have access to my records even though it's required by law at this point. My most recent two visits had I had a list of multiple concerns to discuss and each was met with a variation of "eh, you're fine" including concerns regarding cancer screenings! I mean, wtf. I basically had to force him to give me a referral for a separate specialty screening after he tried to get out of it. It seems like his mode of practice is to just have patients come in and then tell them they're fine without doing anything. So I'm clearly on the hunt for a new doctor and I seriously recommend that anyone considering this practice think twice. I ignored some of these reviews thinking them "disgruntled patients" and I regret it. I hope you don't too! read more

I've had Dr Couture for about 8 yrs. he is caring but when you really need him, he doesn't help you. I've had a lot of problems and he hasn't helped. And heaven forbid if you need anything for your pain! I had severe Sciatica and had to go back to the ER to get any pain relief. That made him look like an idiot. His staff is pretty good. But they've made plenty of mistakes. But it's time for me to move on. It's obvious that he's a doctor for healthy people. He's got a great bedside manner but doesn't know how to treat. UPDATE: If you have aa problem with him, like sending a prescription somewhere else, there's a problem. Upon being told of arthritis - asked for a referral and was denied, not seen and dismissed. Called the insurance company who asked Dr. S Couture -- WHY will you not refer to which the doctor sent a letter firing this customer/patient as any questioning toward this autocracy is seen as a threat. Having been in the medical model for many years as customer and employee - find the approach - as others list too - to firing your patient/customer as most unethical and poor practice. read more

I am a brand new patient of Dr. Couture, S MD. Upon arrival the front staff were very helpful and kind. There was no wait at all. The intake nurse was sweet, welcoming, and engaging. Dr. Couture introduced himself to me and my appointment began. As a healthcare professional myself, I was beyond grateful that he listened and heard my concerns as I am my own advocate. He got down to the nitty gritty and just took charge of my health. I did not once feel judged by him as we talked about my health history. I am beyond grateful to have randomly selected him from the list of doctors as a newcomer to United Health Care. I am excited to continue my journey with him as my PCP. If you wish to build a relationship with a doctor this is NOT the place. Horrible customer service and impossible to make an appointment. There has been multiple times that I have called and never have received a phone call back regarding my health problems. Also when instructed to come pick a doctor's note I told the nurse I was be there right at 5pm. I was 2 minutes late and I could see employees in the office and they wouldn't answer the door. Yea if you've got good insurance & a pretty face he might treat you ok. He didn't do crap for me. I've got IEHP. Went in having severe spasms through out body. High blood pressure. Anxiety. Spasm attacks where I'm screaming in pain. Didn't refer me out to any specialists except dermatologist for suspicious spot. What a joke. "Go to urgent care if you have problems." They said. I asked for referral to psychologist for my insane anxiety. Nope. Wouldn't do it. I called them: "My blood pressure was high on my first visit,165/95 now,can I get BP meds b4 I have heart attack?"Lol seriously? Screw them. Go somewhere else. I consulted w atty. he basically said you can't sue just bcuz doc doesn't give a shhhhh. Yea switched docs. Got refered out to 3 diff specialists after my first visit. My BP was high. My new Dr. says..."your bp is high"...yea I know lol. Why aren't you on any meds? Yea. My new doc also refered me to pain mgmt doc who sent me for X-rays of spine. X-rays revealed Severe spinal stenosis in lower spine,moderate stenosis in neck area. Arthritis throughout spine,neck. Also sent to psychologist for anxiety. Diagnosed w anxiety disorder. The stenosis & anxiety were causing vicious cycle of painful,screaming at the top of my lungs,muscle spasms. Now they've given me meds that they give people w MS,plus anxiety meds. & I rarely have pain attacks. Thanks to Dr Sindher & the specialists he refered me out to. NO THANKS to Shawn couture. Not even gonna call him a dr. Shouldn't be allowed to practice. Stay away! read more

I was taking by ambulance to the hospital in January but prior to that I wasn't feeling good . I felt like I was coming down with something. I called his office as follow up and requested to be seen not once but twice. He refused. What doctor refuses to see a patient! He said keep taking your medication. Well I needed medical attention and sought out a new doctor. Turns out I had a viral and an oral infection in addition to a major scary asthma attack. I received new medication that works great. My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Couture for 4 years now. We are sad that we cannot stay with him but we have had to change insurances. As others have mentioned when you get an appointment with Dr Couture he spends ample time with you to discuss your specific needs. I believe the staff is pretty much on top of things and they communicate well with you when you call with a request. Nobody's perfect but they do a pretty darn good job. Dr. Couture does not appear to have a real genuine interest in his patients. When his patients call with medical concerns he either sends messages through his clerical staff, prescribes or suggests medication without seeing the patient or doesn't return the calls at all. Further, following hospitalizations or emergency visits it is extremely difficult to get a follow up appointment with him. When questioned he mentioned that the request for follow up with the primary care doctor after an ER visit or hospitalization is only a customary response it is not meant literally. So, is there any interest in knowing why your patient was in ER or was hospitalized? There is little evidence of a desire to find the root causes of his patients medical concerns he continues to brush things off to the detriment of his patients. This is being written because The above mentioned incidents happened several times with Dr. Couture which gave birth to our decision to change the primary care doctor. What appears to be his lack of follow through, genuine concern and basic knowledge of medicine renders him either overwhelmed ( too many patients) or under qualified to practice medicine. If overwhelmed it would have been acceptable if he shared his overload and referred his patient to someone who could adequately treat or attend to the medical concerns presented. In view of the above I cannot and do not recommend Dr. Couture read more

We have been using his service now for a few years. He is very easy to talk to and explains things well. His office follows up on things too. If you need to co-ordinate test and procedures, it is done in a manner that is easy for the patient. Lab work X-rays all the usual things you need to do is very easy. He gives you all of his attention and you never feel rushed when you visit. The wait times for appointments is never excessive, the scheduling for appointments is not excessive so you not sitting around for a long time in the office or back in the waiting rooms. read more

Amazing Dr! My 18 yr old son has been coming here for about 2 yrs and I would too if I didn't have Kaiser. He takes his time to get to know his patients and you don't feel rushed. In addition my son needed stuff done before he moves out of state for college and didn't have an appt available until the week before he has to leave. But the staff and the Dr was able to manage to squeeze him in ASAP since I needed to send over his papers to the school soon. I definitely recommend him. read more

I am very disappointed in my overall service with this office. Before I selected him or any doctor, I did my research on review, made sure there were no disciplinary actions against him or lawsuits. Everything checked out well. He's a very nice doctor and he doesn't make you feel rushed or as if he's uninterested in your concerns. However the way he chose to proceed with my care on numerous complaints was my issue. I feel that doctors sometimes dismiss what patients say, and proceed with the care they see fit. Patients, and luckily I'm a nurse, unbeknown to his office so I'm well aware of how it works, need to be ADVOCATES FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH. If I keep returning to a physician for the same problem and it's not being fixed or being down played then it's time to find a new doctor. I understand the method of let's treat the cause and not the problem, but if you've tried that and you can't find the cause but there's still a problem, then maybe it's time to treat the problem at hand. There were 2 issues that I felt were never addressed to my satisfaction and are still ongoing. Nothing life threatening, but bothersome none the less. Another MAJOR factor with the office was the receptionist or medical assistant or whoever she was, Gloria. She was and I'm sure still is, incompetent at best. I had two referrals to 2 specialists at very different times and incurred the same issue both times. She would call me to let me know that the authorization had been approved but no follow up thereafter. I called the specialist directly and they would say they didn't receive it. Then I'd call Gloria back and she'd say we did send it. Come to find out they were not sent to the specialists until after my follow up calls. Totally ridiculous! One time I finally was extremely frustrating and yelled at her because she wanted me to continue to call the specialist and I told her that was not my job it was hers and everyone needed to call me back I wasn't calling them anymore. I expressed my concern to the doctor directly he admitted that there could be some improvement. I'm not sure if there was any improvement in that aspect because I did not see any specialist after that, but I sure hope so! In conclusion, lol....I don think he is a bad doctor in theory, he just wasn't what I was looking for. I recently opted to change doctors so I will see how that goes. But if I get the same result which is no remedy or answers I'll keep searching. Patients have to trust themselves and their bodies. Doctors are NOT always right. They make mistakes as we all do. But if you know something is not right or not being addressed, don't just sit back and take their word, be diligent about your efforts until you find resolve or find a new doctor! read more

Took his time, talked about what his plan is moving forward and explained procedures that need to be done. My husband and I felt very comfortable with him. I rarely visit any doctor, but when I've come here I never feel rushed, I see the doctor not long after my appointment time, and they have been easy to work with. They don't make me come in for every little thing if it can be mailed to me or talked about over the phone, which I appreciate. Dr Shawn Couture takes the time to explain the diagnosis in simple terms. His calendar is mainly book with appointments, but if you have an urgent manner he will immediately see you the next day . This doctor is very nice in person but the 1 star is for my pain. I have only seen him once to establish care and that was a year ago. Every time I try to make an appt for an issue that I am experiencing, he tells his staff to tell me to contact my urologist and or gynecologist. Even when I respond that I am in pain and they have no availability (because I called both offices) I am still told to call these doctors. His nurse Carla told me, "these are doctors orders." Lets get this straight. What is the Gynecologist and the Urologist office going to tell me that's any different from what they told me two hours earlier, that they have no availability for 2 months. They are just trying to pawn me off. I couldn't even make an appt to be seen. I expressed to Carla, that having me run in circles is what the doctor has ordered. I got nowhere. She just kept reiterating. "these are doctors orders." I would have more respect if they would have just said, "We refuse to help you." They want me to call doctors knowing I cannot be seen anytime soon for a problem that needs immediate care. Only when it's their family or themselves do they care, other than that you're a number that they bypass. Why even become a doctor if you disregard your patients? My longtime family doctor retired several years ago and sold the practice to a physicians group. After years of what seemed like a constantly revolving door of different doctors floating through, I eventually just quit going. When some health issues did eventually force me to seek out a doctor, I found Dr. Couture's office online. At first I was a little apprehensive because of my experiences with practices that seemed more interested in churning patients through than spending time with the individual to really get to understand all the issues. Dr. Shawn Couture was not like that at all. It was obvious that he had already reviewed my medical history and took all the time necessary to explain my conditions in terms that I could understand. He not only discussed treatment plans in detail but also explained exactly why each part of it was important. For the first time in a long time, I left a doctor's office feeling really good about the experience. I felt confident that I had found the right doctor for me for the rest of my life. His great personality made me very comfortable. The only thing I would say that could be improved, but seems very minor overall, is their phone system. Perhaps it is because there are 3 Dr. Coutures in the practice, when I called in for a prescription refill, I got shuffled around a couple of times. But hardly even worth mentioning. read more

Very disappointed in the Dr. and office. My family Dr. retired and I was recommended to Dr. Couture by a friend. My initial visit the Dr. never laid one figure on me to check my lungs, heart, or any other area for a fee of $427.00. He order lab work, which I never received a copy of nor a call from the office to let me know results, I had to call them. I signed for them to get my records from previous Dr. and by my next appt. two months later still no records had been received. This visit was for a pap test, two weeks later no results but my insurance company had already been billed. Once again I had to call the office to inquire about my test. The receptionist kept me on hold for approx. 3-4 min. and returned saying the Dr. wanted me to come in again since test was inconclusive due to not enough cells being taken. In other words they botched the test !! Had I not called I would have never known that the test was inconclusive even though they were paid. I have lodge a complaint with my insurance company. I feel it is totally unfair they were paid for the services I did NOT receive. Needless to say I will never step foot in that office again. read more

The receptionist is incredibly rude. You must tell your medical problem to the receptionist before ever going in to see the doctor- in detail. So the receptionist knows all about who you are and your medical issues even though as the patient you do not want her to know. HIPPA VIOLATION. Dr.Shawn D. Couture's receptionist is very rude and not concerned about the patient, she was consistently cutting me off while I was trying to speak, and not listening to my concerns, she was also telling me things that were not clear about the way my health plan worked and in fact made a few incorrect statements. My biggest concern is the receptionist's condescending and demeaning tone. The receptionist is a reflection of the physician and his office. Calling into this office for Dr. Couture was a very disappointing and negative experience. He also has an extremely long waiting list- 4 months and by that time what ever ailment is bereaving you has not received proper care, attention, and treatment.
