First time at Kanata Noodle House after hearing so many good things about it! We ordered a medium bun bo hue and a large pho, as well as the beef sashimi appetizer. Both the BBH and pho were delicious! Not overly oily and flavourful broth that wasn't just pure salt. I loved the options with the BBH for different meats and noodles whereas usually there's no options at other places. The beef sashimi was not my favourite. I've had this dish in a Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto before and I loved it. Unfortunately it just didn't hit the mark. The seasoning on it lacked salt, and was alllll acid. Literally just tasted like a LOT of lime on beef. It would be better if it was more balanced. However, overall I did enjoy my meal here. Portions were huge. Been here twice now with my young son - he's a 'Pho'natic. While he certainly enjoys this place (it's not up to his (Co Cham standards) I find it to be superb in every way. Big, clean, friendly service, huge and delicious portions. They even have the fried rice paper wrap chagio which I don't notice at most places. This is the traditional northern egg roll which I ate in Hanoi and fell in love. The pho is EXCELLENT. I had the beef broth pho once and the Hu Tieu (Chicken broth) last time. Large bowl is the way to go. We always have enough for one more bowl the next morning. Happy to have found a superb Viet place closer to my hood. Bravo KNH!!! read more

I was craving pho while in Ottawa and got recommended to Kanata Noodle House. My family got 3 Special Phos. We re-boiled the soup when home and the smell of the broth filled the kitchen. We were pretty surprised at how much protein they added. They also gave us a lot of bean sprouts and mint. Adding a little sriracha and it was the perfect combo. Our family really enjoyed our meal. This is one of the better pho places I've tried since I've visited Ottawa and a little sad that it's so far away from my sister's house. read more

I went to the Kanata Noodle house yesterday. One of my favourite places for Pho soup. After ordering I was brought bean sprouts and after the server left I noticed a few on top were fresh and the rest appeared rotten. It took a while to flag the server and when I pointed this out and asked for fresh ones she said its because that's all we have left. I said I would like to change my order and she said I couldn't because it is already made. I have a rule that I don't make too much of a fuss when someone is making your food so I decided to accept it without adding the bean sprouts and just said ok. She said thanks for your understanding and left the rotten bean sprouts on my table. I have placed a picture of them in the photos. I have eaten here often and the service and quality of the food are going down. They haven't brought me tea on my last 2 visits and I've had to ask for it a few times before they bring it on a few recent visits. I use to see the owner or his nephew there all the time but they haven't been there when I have visited. I suspected that maybe the ownership had changed and that would explain the decline but I was advised it was the same owners. One very decent option for Vietnamese food in Ottawa West. The BBQ pork and Shrimp Won Ton Hu Tieu (egg noodle soup) was very tasty with nice, chewy egg noodles and a nice mix of flavours in terms of the vegetables and fresh herbs. The vermicelli with 3 meats (beef, chicken and shrimp) was huge! Also came with fresh mixed vegetables (cucumbers, salad, shredded and marinated lo bok and carrots, bean sprouts and herbs). It was a more complex mix of flavours than most places I have visited downtown Ottawa. The chicken was the plainest of meats. I was really hungry so ordered the coconut shrimp soup as an appetizer. It was very well done with a little coconut milk (so not overwhelming) and lots of fresh veggies. read more

I had planned on getting our takeout dinner at another restaurant in the mall but at the last minute decided to try the Kanata Noodle House. I have never been there before and so asked the staff to provide some non-soup recommendations. They suggested Crispy Northern Spring Rolls (A4), Chicken Pad Thai (D1) and Beef & Vegetable with crunchy Egg Noodles (F9) and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious even though we didn't eat until a few hours later. I had not ordered in advance but I only had to wait a few minutes for it to be ready. I have always had good meals at kanata noodle house in both Kanata & arnprior and have raved to others in arnprior. however I picked up pad thai on Friday (late afternoon) & it was terrible! it was just a mass of noodles- that were dry- there were maybe 5 pieces of green onions, a few bean sprouts & dry, old pieces of chicken( I suspect the chicken & possibly the noodles were leftovers?) the cost of almost 20 dollars w tax is not worth it- can get a sub with fresh vegetables for 5 bucks at subway... I came twice in two days, so that alone tells you something good about this place! ;) The first day I came for lunch and only tried their regular beef pho noodle soup (their XL is actually an XL)!. The broth was flavorful but quite light tasting. There seemed to be a lot of msg as I had a lot of phlegm after. One particular aspect I like is that they have satay sauce at all the tables, so I was able to put some on each bite (I LOVE spicy sauces). The second day I came for lunch again as I was in the area, and had the S15 (shrimp and mussel thai noodle soup) which was my favourite rendition of a thai soup ever! It beats the other ones in Chinatown. The broth was hearty, salty, a bit sour, and a bit sweet; the perfect mix! And not too salty, so I could drink it all! I added satay sauce onto the noodles as I ate it, which added even more flavour. There were about 5 shrimp and 5 mussels, so the amount of seafood was ok, but they could add more as well to make it even better. I also tried the pad thai with chicken and shrimp. The portion was huge (enough for 3 meals for a small person), and the sauce was flavorful enough. There was ample chicken too. With service, it varies but generally they are more friendly than other pho places. The place itself is very large and the white chairs are padded and comfy! J The washroom is also modern and very clean versus Chinatown places. One part I like is that they have fortune cookies as well as candy for you to grab when paying the bill! A nice touch. read more

This place has been on my "to try" list for some time. I finally got around to eating there tonight with my husband and father in-law. I was surprised that the place was quite busy. Overall, I thought it was just OK. I had the #30 large ($11.50). It was BBQ pork, ground pork, shrimp and a shrimp cake with tapioca noodles in broth. They don't call it such on the menu, but most places call it Phnom Penh Noodle Soup. This is my favourite noodle soup, and I have to say, I've had much better. First off, the shrimps were not properly deveined - yuck! Secondly, the BBQ pork was fatty. I prefer leaner cuts. And lastly, the ground pork was almost nonexistent. I saw some crispy deep fried onion pieces, but they weren't particularly fragrant. The noodles were good, although they could have been a bit chewier. I also got a quail egg in my soup, which was a pleasant surprise. It tasted like it came from a can, but still very good. The shrimp cake was crispy but oh so oily/greasy. The large is HUGE! You get lots of BBQ pork and shrimp too. So portion-wise it was awesome. Taste-wise it was OK. It wasn't all that flavourful or fragrant, but at least it wasn't overly salty. My husband had the D7 - Shrimp and vegetables stir fried in oyster sauce with white rice ($13.95). He really enjoyed his meal. There were lots of shrimp and vegetables, and he loved the sauce. He said it was "a nice mix of sweet and umami." It looked good. I didn't try any though. My father in-law had the A1 - 2 deep fried shrimp spring rolls ($4.50) and F9 - stir fried beef and vegetables in oyster sauce on a bed of crispy noodles ($13.95). He enjoyed the spring rolls but noted he didn't see or taste any shrimp in them. He also said he liked his main course. It too looked good. However, I did not taste it. The place has a liquor license with a limited selection of beers and wines. Decor is nothing fancy. It looks like the typical pho places in Chinatown. Service was all right, not super friendly, but not mean or rude. I'd say "neutral" is a good word to describe the servers. The restaurant is in the strip mall at the corner of Terry Fox and Hazeldean. Same strip mall as the Little Caesars and CAA. There is lots of free parking. read more

My sons love Pho. They enjoy eating Pho once a week. However, this Friday, was not a good choice. Both soups were very oily. My sons called for a refund, disappointed from their soup, but the manager refused to issue a refund. The rolls given smelled very bad as well. A group of us came by after Phnom Phen closed down just to see what took over. Low and behold it's the Kanata Noodle House. The place looks a lot bigger since the renovations but it's mostly because they painted the place white and removed anything that might have broken up the space. I should have ordered the noodles, I really really wish I ordered noodles. It's my fault but I ordered a vermicelli with grilled chicken. My rating is based solely on this dish because the service was fine. The chicken tasted weird and not the sense that it was rotten. It just tasted like it was pulled out from water and tossed on the grill. I'm talking if you had your dish sponge soaked in water and you tried to grill it. It was really mushy and didn't seem to grill well as there was no signs that it seemed grilled. The vermicelli was ok, nothing spectacular and definitely not made in house. I have to give this place a try and try the noodles eventually. read more

I went to Kanata Noodle House to pick up some take-out Pho yesterday. Why is this noteworthy? Because I drove all the way across town, from Centretown to be exact because KNH is the BEST in Ottawa!! On a cold November night I will battle traffic for the best Pho in town. And Kanata Noodle House also has the best service, they are kind and courteous and the owners are there and it reflects that they care. A nice warm complimentary tea while you wait for your meal to be freshly prepared for taking home. This restaurant has high quality and the freshest ingredients and so much choice and variety of wonderful dishes. You win here everytime! The food is good but their service is terrible and awful! I would put 0 point or minus if there's an option. I arrived restaurant at 8:20pm. They said they didn't accept dine in coz they will close at 9pm (there were 40 minutes until they close...) Ok, fine. I ordered a large noodle soup to go and when I got home, I found there's no noodle in my package. I called them back at 8:50pm and told them that there's no noodle in my meal. At that time, I just wanna they cook a noodle for me and I can go back to pick it up since I haven't ate anything. However, the only sentence they talked to me is "It's impossible" and repeat and repeat and repeat. Then I said I can send a picture to them. I send a SMS to them as soon as I hang up the phone and waited for their reply. They didn't give me any feedback. After wait about 10 minutes, around 9:02pm, I called them back, and NO ONE answered the phone. I called them more than 10 times, they just didn't pick up the phone! I had nothing to eat at that night and I was so angry and hungry! I called them on the second day, and they still repeat the same thing "It's impossible". And they said "If you want, we can give you the noodle". I was so disappointment. Who would like the damn noodle on the second day??? and the ONLY noodle??? And "It's impossible" made me feel like I'm a cheater for a noodle. The most important thing is from the beginning to the end, they DID NOT even say ONE apologize to me! NO! I have been here 3 or 4 times for lunch and have tried the pad thai and vermicelli. I think the food here is pretty darn good, specially the vermicelli. The service is good at lunch and we have never had to wait exceptionally long for food. The tables and utensils, cutlery is clean and overall the food is fresh. The food has been fresh, appetizing, nicely presented and the take out very thorough-how often when you get take out do you get a small container of sirracha for your pho? It's been delicious-the spring rolls and shrimp rolls are particularly delectable. They even have online ordering for your take out-visit their website-it was pretty cool-especially if you don't have a take out menu. Fantastic soup. Ordered a large BBQ pork and Shrimp dumpling pho and everything tasted delicious. Was absolutely massive.

So when they mean a "large" or an "extra large", they really mean it. The bowls are huge!! I mean I didn't get the big bowls, my dad and a friend got it. I guess you really do get your money's worth. The medium/small was a perfect size for me. I had the bun bo hue and it was super good. The broth was spicy (though it could have used more lemongrass) while the meat was tender. Just the way that I like it. My brother had the pho and he agreed that it was good too. Overall, a great place to go to for Viet food. read more
