A mix of American style Chinese, Japanese fusion food. Very little selection of fish for sushi, compared with really good places. read more

Love it here, consistently great for us for over 8 years, always fresh and clean and everyone is very nice. They always remember the little things that make you feel good about going there, I can't say enough good about the whole experience, whether it's the agadashi or the Christmas maki, it's always good. read more

This place was once good but has gone downhill. We ordered takeout today, some sushi and avocado salad. The sushi was not presentable. It was falling apart. The eel still had bones in it. The avocado salad had so much mayo in it that after picking out the avocado I had to throw it out. It was like eating a jar of mayo. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

Kame has the best sushi around, and for decent prices. At lunch you can get nice bento boxes with sushi or sashimi, eel on rice, fried pork, or other interesting entrees with salad, tempura, miso soup and california roll. The sushi list is interesting and not too expensive, even for something special like soft-shelled crab. The service is friendly and there is rarely a wait. Highly recommended! read more

Somebody call Charles Dickens because I'm being haunted by the ghost of sushi past. For roughly my first three visits to Kame, I had considered this place to be a run-of-the-mill, four-star sushi dispensary. You know, the kind of place that gets your frequent patronage, barring its usurpation by a five-star sushi dispensary. But my last two visits, sadly, have soured me to the tune of an entire star. And now, Kame will be reduced to a three-star joint, forever sharing a rung with places like Asahi. Allow me to vent. You don't put carpet everywhere in a Japanese-style dining area. It's supposed to be wood -- bamboo even. And once you've done that, you must add those sliding doors with the silhouette-inducing panes. Then some of those red paper mache balls that light and have authentic Japanese scrawlings saying things like, "Americans will die slow," and "Don't eat the food here, we've enriched it with mercury." Are these necessities anywhere to be found? No! Sure, it's probably more pragmatic to have carpet, and I would blindly wager that the majority of houses in Japan do, but not ev-ree-where! That's right; the seats, floor and walls are all covered in carpet. When my lady friend and I came in for my latest, most fateful visit, we sat at a tiny, four-table dining area that's right off and elevated from the main dining room. 'Great,' we thought, and sat down in the vacant room. It was the late afternoon and there was only one other party in sight. Lo and behold, midway through our meal, the entire area we're seated at is brimming with folks. 'Great,' we thought again, but in a different tone. Why can't you people dissipate through the rest of the dining space? It's absolutely empty, look for yourself. Clearly, people are drawn to this Japanese-inspired area, but my instincts tell me it's a one-and-done deal because, honestly, it's pretty weak. Then you have the food, which lacks consistency. One visit will inspire you to make a return visit at your earliest opportunity, while that return visit will inspire a tepid review. The benchmark, the spicy tuna, lacks any kind of detail or added dynamic. It's always bland here, and I find myself straying to other maki. But where do I go? With so many uninspired creations in one place, I just can't decide! Stay away from the overpriced, one-off sushi menu -- you'll be headed down Disappointment Street and it's a one way. Never a good sign when you have a sushi democracy remaining at the end of the meal, with with one piece left over to equally represent each variety that failed to make you happily finish it. You need anarchy. Some sushi should have been devoured long ago, others should have been saved for last because they warranted respect and others still should just be stragglers enslaved from the last regime that you're only keeping around as laborers in your quest to fill your belly. Not with ho-hum Kame. When it comes to service, Kame once again is spotty. During one visit, our waitress completely forget about our table after bringing us our food. That's unacceptable because I get thirsty, sometimes, when I eat. And then when I want to leave, I would like that option, too. As for the prices, they're what you would expect. The street this restaurant is on provides no other competition in the sushi department, so they're exercising their monopoly rights. And the rest of the nearest restaurants are pretty upscale, dimmed-lighting joints with pricey eats. In the end, it pains me to give this review because of what Kame once was in my eyes. If I could, I would take take it all back. But I can't. It's too late now. The damage has been done, the tactless review has been written and my heart won't ever allow Kame back. So long, old friend. read more

This is a great sushi place, but the food is a little overpriced for the portion sizes and for the quality of the food itself. The service is amazing, though, and the decor is good too. I recommend sticking to sushi if you want to visit Kame. read more

Spent years and years in Yokohama and Tokyo. Not sure what those with negative reviews were expecting, but the sushi here is consistently as good as anything in Japan. We've been coming here since the week they opened 16 years ago. Service sometimes gets confused with a new waitperson but otherwise, just great. Best sushi around, period. read more

Kame is hands down my favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. The staff is always very friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious! read more

Kame is good. Extra points for offering brown rice. The most important things about sushi are knife skills and freshness and they are excellent at both. The sake choices are ok, ambiance not bad, prices pretty fair. When my wishes are for fishes on my dishes, it's delicious. read more

went here for valentines day with the hubby. Food was great. We both got the Nigiri deluxe plate and a maki combo. Fish was fresh. Just the right amount of rice. Glass of wine was a generous pour. Wait staff was attentive. Atmosphere is ok, not very romantic or overly special. Would definitely go back. Prices were very reasonable. read more

I live right near downtown Beverly and I'd rather drive far away to get sushi. This place does not taste fresh. The rolls are chewy. And the prices are expensive! read more

very, very, very good. i like much better than Asahi in Salem. it's a little brightly lit and i've never sat in the dining room (Sushi Bar only, thank you) i take one star off because Michael left (a few years ago) and the omakase fell off. after a recent 8/07 visit i want to add that things here have picked up a bit. got a big sashimi platter and when the chef heard that we were adventurous eaters he offered us his Wasabi Tako, basically raw octopus with sechuan flower pepper wasabi. WOW! so good and numbing. will be back to explore further. read more

I've been coming to Kame since it's opening. We followed the owner, Bo, here from Asahi in Salem. Asahi was awesome too, but since Keiko died I can't get myself to go back there. I've had sushi in the best of places (San Fran, LA, Santa Barbara) and this place gives those places a good run for their money. I think my favorite part, after the food, is the friendliness of the waitstaff. If you are a regular you often get a free salad and special treatment. I mostly sit at the sushi bar, but have also sat at the tables. I think the tables are more of a newbie thing and the service is not as fast there. My favorite things to order- yellowtail sashimi, spider roll, and Bo's signature roll. I always order a miso soup and sometimes order the green tea ice cream for dessert. One suggestion- make green tea fried ice cream! They only have vanilla. Yum all around! read more

Decent sushi and food for Beverly and the prices are reasonable. Food is always fresh and the service is pretty good. Like the Alaska Maki Mono Rolls with Salmon & Avocado, the Tempura (shrimp especially), and the Edamame, which is nicely salted. Friends of mine have tried the soups and say that they are tasty. Would certainly return! read more

Kame restaurant in Beverly has the best Sushi in Beverly. Last time I was there, we ordered edamame, shumai, and a couple maki rolls. The edamame was not as fresh as it has been in the past, it was a little brown on the edges and soggy. Everything else was delicious. Love that they offer brown rice, too. read more

So I just realized I reviewed this a few years ago, but I just got a Kame craving and wanted to review this again. In case anyone's wondering, the quality of the food has stayed amazing and fresh! I've also more recently tried out more of the menu, including non-sushi dishes, and they've all been well made and delicious. My boyfriend, who is not a sushi or fish person AT ALL, has tried out both the sushi and several of their other chicken and noodle dishes, and he agreed that you can't go wrong with anything (ha-ha I told him so). So thanks Kame for convincing him to go out for sushi without forcing him against his will! The service here has always been great, and the staff has continued to be very friendly and helpful throughout the years. read more

I am in love. I live one block from Kame and I have to get something from there every week while the other options may cheaper. I usually get the same thing (boring) but I love it. They are super friendly, especially the sushi chef's who have a good sense of humor. I love that they know me and know what i like. I had sushi elsewhere that just didn't cut it. Kame serves fresh, well made, beautiful sushi. kudos. read more

My boyfriend and I have gone here a few times. Parking is convenient and the service is fairly quick. We love sushi and some of the appetizers are pretty good. The waitress was semi awkward and I didn't like having to ask for water, but other than that it was fairly good. Standard sushi restaurant that doesn't offer anything special or unique. For the atmosphere of the place I would expect better food for the price. read more

Sux, waited over 10mins for water....stayed for 45min after ONLY bc I was waiting for my friend to come and go to movie after. They didn't even come over to take order or anything. I feel like most Chinese places they r up ur ass....here is the exact opposite. Did have the opportunity to eat the food so can not comment on that. read more

I would never recommend this place ever. After hearing many reviews of "this place is good for beverly" I decided to try it. BIGGEST mistake ever. I placed a take out order, picked it up got it home and started eating it. It was the WORST salmon avocado and cucumber maki roll I've ever eaten. The salmon was slimy and tasted bad. I call to ask what they can do to remedy the situation, and they say nothing. "Our fish is always fresh" clearly not if I'm complaining. Not only was the "sushi grade" salmon bad their customer service was worst. Never going back. read more

I know people love this place, that is why I was so disappointed. Was looking forward to some quality Ramen with a side of sushi...ended up with two piles of mush. I'll take partial blame for doing take-out. The spicy tuna (doesn't get more basic) was filled with mayo and falling apart. The ramen was tasteless. Can't may much more than that. The highlight was the four leaves of lettuce that made up the salad. read more

Its just OK. Went there on a Tuesday night ordered a miso soup, surf clam, spicy scallop, yellowtail and tempura shrimp. Split it with my lovely wife. It was dece, not great. Service was fine. Ambiance was horrid, bleak. Maybe I should have had more sake. Oh, I almost forgot - there was rat in the alley leading to the parking lot behind the restaurant. Sorry, I'm not blaming Kame but it was the biggest rat I've seen and I just wanted to brag a little bit. I called the police to have someone clean it up, they said not to worry, another rat will eat it. That's all for now. read more

Delicious! Definitely the best sushi place on the north shore. Everything was so fresh. I really love their salmon and Red Sox rolls. Good service too. read more

Love Kame! Good sushi is good sushi whether it's in the city or not, and we go here about once a week. I prefer my sushi without the snobbery, and this place is laid back and TASTY. I love the Irish roll, spicy tuna roll, and triangle roll. Super fresh and super good. Friendly staff, service is usually pretty good but it does get very busy here. We also like the avocado salad, miso soup, or seaweed salad. Don't forget to end the meal with some green tea ice cream! read more

Sushi is good, but meals from the kitchen aren't so great. Chicken terriyaki lacked flavor. Spicy tuna rolls were delicious though. Stick to sushi and you'll be okay! read more

The servers very kindly let us in around 10pm even though they were closing at 10:30pm. Or something like that. Their service was decent. The sushi was also decent. Lots of choices. Typical prices. There's nothing really special about this place, but then again, I've only been here once. read more

It was sooo good!!! Get the "Bo Special" it is truly amazing! and the seafood salad is delish!

Kame still rocks my world. Just want to update 'cos they got a TV. (Bummer.) BUT...there's only ONE [and will hopefully stay that way] & it's by the sushi bar so if you're in the right seat in the dining room, it won't distract. They also have a few new mouthwatering maki rolls. DEF drop in & check them out. 8) Love ya', Kame! read more

Kame is definitely the best sushi on the North Shore. I have been going there for many years and I have never been disappointed with the restaurant or the take-out. I am trying their delivery right now.....I think they only deliver to Beverly, so it is lucky I am here right now....hope they get here soon. I am hungry. read more

Generous portions and relaxed atmosphere! The Bento luncheon was especially excellent, and surprisingly filling. Will definitely return in the near future! read more

The only place to go for good sushi around here. Can be a bit pricey but you can go wrong with the bento box. Atmosphere is nice too.

I would give this place 3 1/2 stars. It wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad either. Service was OK... Food was OK... I wasn't expecting a fabulous Japenese restaurant in Northshore anyways.... I would definately rather eat here than Asahi in Salem, MA... I'll probably go back when I'm in mood for some california rolls... read more

I searched for sushi places in and around the north shore and found this place - Kame. The sushi was excellent and so was the noodles dishes. The only thing is - I didn't realize how casual the restaurant was and i took my girlfriend out for a semi-romantic saturday night dinner. But, nonetheless, the food was superb and would def go back again. Only next time, we won't get so dressed up for the occasion ! read more

OK. So here's the first thing you need to know: I am a Sushi Savant. Not just a lover of good Sushi, but one who has Wasabi paste coursing through his veins. I've never been a huge fan of other Japanese food, and at Kame, the non-Sushi fare is rather ordinary. But pull up a stool to the bar, order a nice cold Sapporo, and let the chef slice and dice you up some smoked salmon, and maguro done up Shashimi style. The maki is superb here too! read more

While I truly like this resturant and it's sushi for many reasons, there are a couple things I don't like. The prices are one and the spicy tuna maki is another. The prices are off because the sushi is not excellent - it is good; quite good, but not worth the prices they have placed on it. I've had better sushi and paid less for it. The rolls are very small - even the rolls would normally be considered 'giant' are fairly small. Most places I've been in, for instance, the una avo roll is about 4.50, maybe 5.00... at Kame, una avo maki is 6.50 and while it tastes quite nice, there is nothing about it that should make it cost 1.50 or 2.00 more than most other places. The spicy tuna - is not spicy, normally. It generally tastes like a simple tuna roll. Most of the other maki rolls, again, are good... but not amazing. The staff is friendly and the service is very quick - which is nice if you're looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat for lunch. The salads are very tasty as is the soup and my husband has told me that the non-sushi entrees are all very nice. I like Kame for what it is and will continue to grab a couple maki rolls now and then for lunch and dinner. read more

Try the Bo special! Sushi as good as any place in Boston

I enjoy this place 99.9 percent of the time. The staff is always very polite and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. They have a wide variety of food on their menu and large open seating plan. My only qualm with this place is the quality of the food on really busy nights. I have order a few sushi rolls that were falling apart (still delicious though). At any rate I would highly recommend this place. Great people great food. read more

I've been coming to Kame for years. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The miso soup and salad are always good. I usually go for tuna or salmon rolls which are consistently good. Green tea ice cream is VERY tasty. read more

One of my all time favorite sushi places. Attentive service, quality sushi. Ambiance isn't the best - not bad but not stellar.

This place consistently serves really good sushi. I usually get either the sushi lunch special or the sushi bento special. You get a miso soup and a salad with it. The spider and mexican rolls are amazing. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that sometimes, just sometimes, the service is not so great. Most of the staff are sweet and courteous, it really is just one waitress that is horrible. The prices at lunch time are also great, you get a good deal. read more
