I tried the siomay and the curry fishballs only because I just want to compare the taste with the regular from YCC. But it was a dissapointment. The Siomay was basically wrapped a corn starch dumpling. And worse, the curry fishballs were like chocolate fishballs because it probably has been there for days. I prefer to stay with the YCC Fish Siaomay and curry fishball.

As far as food court spots go, this is probably one of my top 3 go to's at the First Markham Place plaza. It's Hong Kong quick meals and snack foods; all your favourites at a decent price. I usually just grab a skewer of curry fish balls and a skewer of curry beef balls. Their sauce has a spicy kick to it that is flavourful and a bit addicting. Be warned, there's tons of oil! But all the yummy HK snack foods usually do. I also decided to grab dinner here one time. Normally I order a soup or something from a near by korean spot and just grab snacks from here, but this time I figured I should try other menu items being offered. Their wonton noodles were alright. The wontons were chewy, but didn't have the bounce that we love so much. The noodles tasted different. I'm not sure if it was the broth or the noodles themselves but it was a nice warm flavour to it. Not too salty and not over done. They just keep it quick and simple. :) I like the lower pricing and good portion. Portions are decent for someone like me that really doesn't eat too much anyway, but for someone who is maybe a person of larger appetite, this will most likely not be enough.

The sharks fin soup is very similar to authentic HK style imitated sharks fin soup (add the fresh fish paste) The cart noodles take awhile to make but it has lots of variety, and how it tastes really depends on your own taste and what you put it in, it's worth a try! The fish balls, and HK style snacks are good and brings back lots of memories... I always pass by this at the food court, now I always grab something from here.

Maybe I should not have that much expectation for Kalok Express as a stall in a food court. I do like the selections and the price is reasonable. Shrimp Wonton Noodle ($5.50) was quite disappointed though. The wontons were balls of hard meat with mushy texture, I could not find those "fresh" shrimps. The noodle though was cooked good with a nice bite. That bowl of noodle is definitely a 2 star. I might give them another try? Cart Noodle might be more promising? Just skip the wontons.

Looks like there has been some new stalls that recently opened in the First Markham Place food court. Kalok Express is one of two recent openings in the food court, the other being Noodle Soup. Kalok Express serves mostly Hong Kong-style snacks, similar to the street food stalls you used to see everywhere in HK. It's a unique addition to the food court, as you can order an entree from another food stall, then order some extra snacks from Kalok Express, as the prices are quite cheap here. The first time I tried Kalok Express, I had the cart noodles, where you get to pick your noodles and ingredients you want to add. The cart noodles are okay for food court quality, but I've had better out there. The second time, I tried their curry fish balls. Their curry is quite spicy, so if your spice tolerance is low, I would try something else. However I found it to be quite tasty and reminiscent of HK street food. They have a lot of other snacks that are worth trying, and I do believe this is an excellent addition to the FMP food court.

Walk past this food place a lot of times for the past few years. Finally made up my mind and ordered and it's one of the worst decision Ever. Fish ball was hard... yes finh ball was really hard. Pork intestine were cooked in curry sauce but not my favourite. Broth doesn't have too much flavour. Good thing is I didn't put too much hope so was not as disappointed.

Overall 3.5 stars. Kalok Express is a noodle and snack food booth. It sells soup noodles, cart noodles, lo meins, a few rice entrees and traditional Chinese snacks. The pricing is on par with other noodle places in the same mall. I ordered their cart noodle because I wanted a healthy combination. I had vermicelli (non fried, so it was healthier than egg noodle), fish cake slices (the lower fat protein among the options) and Chinese broccoli (an usual option among cart noodle places). The result was a cleanly and delicately tasted soup noodle in the picture. The portion was sufficient. The ingredients were fresh. I rate Kalok Express as 3.5 stars because it has a relatively bigger selection of vegetables in the cart noodle menu. I have yet to try their other wonton and dumpling soup noodles, so I shall return.

If one likes the idea of choosing one's own ingredients for the Noodle Soup, then this is the place to go. The Noodle Soup comes with soy milk. And if one is willing to pay $1.00 extra, one can get a bowl of so called "Sharks Fin Soup".(regular price, $3.00 per bowl) It even offers choice of noodles, see the photos. So this is Hong Kong style "Cart Noodle Soup" all about. The 4 star rating is solely based on food.

Came here at 11:50am on Sunday and the food court was still pretty quiet. But this hk style noodle place had 2 ppl working but took them 15mins to make a fishball seedwee soup. Tasted normal, not bad but not wow. For the hot hk milk tea, thry put sugar for you and its too sweet, make sure you ask for less sugar if you prefer it not as sweet.

It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
