I've been wanting to visit Kalaveras in the past. It might not have been this specific location but I am glad that I came! My mother had an all day event across the street. I came to drop her off while hanging out with some friends and having brunch. Sunday has a brunch from 9am-2:30pm. I didn't realize this is a forced menu on this day during these hours and I was pleasantly surprised. There were 5 different serving stations with a very nice variety of Mexican dishes to put together. They also serve endless mimosa during this time. I was surprised there were a lot of people which means the place is a great place to be, plus the food turn around would be likely to be high. The food was great and even though it is a buffet it surpassed my expectations on the quality and selection. I would love to come back for their regular menu and deals throughout the days of the week. This location is not quite local to me but I feel that visiting Kalaveras is totally worth it. I went in a large group of 10 people so we ordered a lot of appetizers to share for the table. It took a while to arrive but we were munching on the free chips and salsa and I didn't mind because the chips were SO good. That made me really excited for the nachos which was loaded with a whole bunch of stuff. I honestly have no idea what was on there but it all worked well together. I'm a lover of pickled onions so I would've been even happier if they loaded it even more. The ceviche was refreshing but a small portion size to split with everyone. The esquite was served hot and smothered in butter and chipotle aioli sauce. I ending up trying all of them with the chips because it all paired so nicely. read more

Came in on a slow Thursday, we were able to sit at the bar right away. Happy hour is a must, the food is delicious and it's happy hour price, the drinks are only $5! Three margarita options for that one, $5 each, nkt a bad deal. The pineapple was pretty good but my favorite was definitely the one of the left picture. Forgot the name. The one posted is the middle margarita in the photo and tbh it tasted like a smoothie. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either. There was several people at the bar as well, service was rather slow considering it wasn't packed. At one point I thought he forgot aboht my drink. They have a super cute selfie mirror by the bathrooms, and tons of parking in the back. I love that this place is right off the freeway, super convenient! read more

Great atmosphere and music, but if you are hungry, the service may take longer than you would like. We decided to go for Sunday brunch. It took us quite awhile to get service (it was busy). We got our food before the forks so we used chips until she could help us. One of us ordered the bottomless mimosas but only got 2 because of the wait time. I got the pasta which was yummy, but the chilaquiles were too spicy (and we like spicy), and enchiladas which were ok. May go back if I am meeting friends there cause the bar vibe is good, otherwise no. read more

Came here for their Happy Hour on a Tuesday. This was my first time visiting this chain. It was a bit interesting how they do Happy Hour. You let your waiter know which taco(s) you want and they come back with a receipt ticket which in turn you bring up to their taco bar. And from there you let the staff know which taco you want and you can put on the toppings yourself afterwards further down the table. The tacos were very generous. Usually at other Taco Tuesday places, I can eat 2 tacos. But here, one taco was very filling. So why just two stars? The ambiance was too much for a Tuesday afternoon. The music was loud. They actually had a live DJ. It felt like I was in a club and not a restaurant. It was hard to carry a conversation. One family even brought noise cancelling headphones for their child to wear. That's how loud it was. Would I be back? Unfortunately not. Think there are better deals and vibe at other places. read more

After a tiring day of going throughout the realm of the San Gabriel Valley to look for fare at various markets, time was against us. The twilight was upon us and it was almost the ungodly hour of 9 pm. We attempted to go the China Garden, but alas we were rebuffed because we were "those people" who sheepishly attempted to dine in 15 minutes before closing. We were drawn to a Mexican restaurant literally next door called Kalveras. Let me be clear, I'm 45 years old and I felt like I was walking into a dim lighted club. The music was bumping and I felt like I was in my twenties again. Correction. I felt like I was in my twenties again if I actually went into clubs. The music is really loud and I could hardly hear myself talk or process a thought. Again, it's 9 pm at night so I really didn't have to anyway. Our waitress was phenomenal and kept checking on us. I should have asked for her name, then again I wouldn't be able to hear her even if she had told me. The service was very attentive by the various members of the staff and our food came out quickly. The most important thing is the food right? I ordered chicken verde enchiladas that was smothered with verde sauce and cotija cheese. It was delicious, the tartness of the verde and the sharpness of the cotija cheese complimented each other perfectly. I'm a bit of a rice snob and I must say that the Spanish rice was some of the best I've ever had. It was fluffy, flavorful and savory. For something so simple, they nailed the flavor and texture on all cylinders. On a side note, my wife ordered the carne asada and it was THE BEST carne asada that I've ever had. It had a nice thickness with divine marbling. It was almost like eating a well seasoned steak at a glorious steakhouse for the bargain price of $28. Now that I recant this epic culinary misadventure, I should have ordered the damned meat instead. read more

I made a Reservation for 5, and requested a Booth. When we arrived I requested the host for a booth and was told "we do not have booths for 5. Once we arrived to our table I walked over to the side with booths and they had plenty. So I'm giving them 1star for the fact that I was pushed to sit at a table. I came today on a Sunday around 1:30 pm and the manager offered us to eat from the brunch because they would be closing soon and there was still so much food out. Went in on Sunday 5/18/25 We got seated right away restaurant looked pretty empty we asked for chips and salsa ordered water and ceviche for an appetizer server Jorge didn't bring us any appetizer plates and didn't see him anywhere around we waited for some time and nothing so I asked one of the many ladies that appeared to be rolling silverware if we could please get some plates she got us plates we placed our order with Jorge finally and someone from the kitchen brought out our food we asked him if we could please get a refill on our water and he said sure and also more chips we ate our appetizer, dinner and chips and salsa and never once saw our server again or anyone passing by we were soooooo thirsty !!! Mind you the place was empty! Everything was so time consuming and the place wasn't packed at all! I finally asked someone who wasn't our server to bring us the bill she left it on the table and walked away and we're still thirsty and no water and waiting even longer for someone to pick up the bill ! No one ever came so I went to the front to pay it and express how I just spent $70 on two people for horrible service all Lisa (she said that was her name) said was oh sorry... didn't offer water or anything Jorge was never seen again after he took our order ... like do better we're spending $70 on two people and can't even get a refill or see your server wasn't even busy! En employee who called himself "Rafael" (see photo) violently grabbed my beer from my hand, a beer which I had already paid for, causing it to spill all over myself and the ground. He didn't apologize and refused to refund my money and didn't offer a replacement. I decided not to press charges but I will not return to an establishment that endorsed violence and intimidation against its customers. I implore the owners/management to pursue action against this individual in order to dissuade further problems. read more

I've been to this place before several times and I have never had any complaints. The lomo saltado steak is delicious, well cooked and seasoned. The small tacos were cooked well unfortunately I was missing the seasoning. I'm not typically a fan of the shrimp cocktails. This had very little seasoning and it was a bit dry. The most seasoned item on this dish are the four pieces of cucumber with Tajín. The Carne Asada taco that I ordered also lacked salt, spiciness flavor, zest. I couldn't even finish it because the meat didn't look like actual steak. It looked more like some sort of soy hybrid meat. I honestly couldn't tell you what I ate. The ambience was nice a bit loud for my taste as I expected to sit down and have a conversation with my friends, but I can see people will have a good time. Presentation overall was very nice and clean put the food lacks flavor. Service was OK. Our waiter was nice and friendly. They did forget our chips and extra tortillas, but I'm not really good at doing them for that. They seem to be somewhat busy. I truly hope to come back in a couple of months to try more food. Maybe I'll try the Saltado but I will definitely refrain from the appetizers. The only odd thing about the saltado is that they serve it with a chimichurri sauce, which is typical of Argentina yet the Saltado is Peruvian and it served with the green Ají sauce. I truly think this place needs a new GM that actually cares about the business. The times I've visited were slow. Last night for me it truly was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. The waiter we had, which dressed in a hoodie; asked us what we wanted for drinks. Time was 11:45, but since we just sat down and got our chips we are still looking at the menu. We said give us a second, he then comes back communicates to us and says the kitchen closes now, it's last call. But they don't close until 1. While I'm eating my chip, he flips my menu and says "you're looking at the drinks" which duh obviously, you asked us what drinks we wanted not too long ago. Which he should never do again, it came off aggressive. I get it's a rush to get the food in but this is not helping. I'm coming in for food and drinks not for sas. He also tried to make up for his stupidity and tried to be friendly but at the point I was over him. He asked my boyfriend "oh she's difficult huh" which is actually crazy to utter out of his mouth. Don't think he used his brain when he said that dumb stuff. That's why I left out not tipping him, the service was trash and I won't be coming back. The vibes are just always off there. They need to retrain there ill equipped staff, that's what will kill your business; bad service. If you're in service; know how to read your customers, don't be condescending, aggressive, find out what they want and if it is possible. Maybe you're new so don't know yet, but that service was terrible, hope you learn from that. read more

Was looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area. The chips and salsa starter were really good, we got regular salsa, habanero and salsa verde, all had really good flavor! Got the kalaveras burrito- not a huge size but good flavors. Also got the potato taquitos- not a huge fan of these. They used blue corn tortillas or a different tortilla which tasted almost burnt, also the inside filing wasn't the traditional potato filing and was mixed with something that made the flavor seem strange. Wish I ordered a burrito instead. Nice overall option for a sit down restaurant. read more

Where do I start... Let's go with service.. impeccable with the nicest waitress and other waiters just checking on us. Our server was awesome and attentive and kind. We loved her!! Great effing service!! The food was just as good. It was Taco Tuesday so tacos were $1.50 each. Heavily loaded with the meat of your choice. My favorite is always the lengua, Barbacoa, and pastor! Even tried the chicken today and really liked it. They have all the toppings on the side for you to load up your tacos. One of us got a Kala burrito and that was bomb too cause i had to help finish it! They even hooked us up with some rice pudding desserts on the house tonight! Will be back again like always. I like a couple of min away from this place and enjoyed the Sunday brunch more when they had mariachi. Their brunch buffet includes chilaquiles, an omelet station, menudo, antojitos mexicanos and bottomless mimosas OR MICHELADAS for about $40. They have a lady come around and take pics of your group which she then sells you later. She was super sweet and we enjoyed talking to her! I was on the fence about the brunch experience since the last time I had been was far better due to the atmosphere with the mariachi but because of the service (esp from our photographer) I would definitely return again! read more

Must dine in spot! Visited here twice this month with large groups (one of them about 14 of us) and the food is on point, service very friendly, and the atmosphere is so fun! If you're dining and want to have a conversation, sit in the patio. The music gets so loud indoors but I can see how that's a thing for some people. The decor is energetic, colorful, and inviting. The hostess was SO nice on the phone and in person. Thank you. When it comes to the food, each plate is well presented but also packing with flavor. I have driven by here weekly for years and see a long line outside on Sundays. I had to stop by and see what's up with this place. I was pleasantly surprised. Bar top was packed and restaurant was packed on a Thursday evening. Birthday party's being celebrated (Crew comes out to sing) I ordered my usual test plate Enchiladas Verdes. Liked that they plated the rice and bean on a separate plate and didn't mix my food. Enchiladas were better then I expected. Tons of flavor and not just chicken hidden by sauce. They really put thought into the plate. Richard (my table guy) recommended that I try the shrimp enchiladas which caught my eye. I will need to return to try this next time.
