My husband and I are stumped by these reviews. Our dinner started with the owner not finding our reservation. We spelled our, simple, brief last name numerous times. Finally, my husband leaned over him and pointed to it on the computer screen. Then we were seated in the darkest corner of the restaurant with a horrific speaker thumping undefined "music" above us. The papadum were good, fresh. The condiments were not, one sickly sweet, the other a spicy and sweet attempt at lemon pickle. The beef kabab appetizer was unrecognizable. It reminded us of scrapple--chopped, mushy (you could mush your fork into it like mashed potatoes) ill-spiced shingles of mystery. It bore no resemblance to its description-- it wasn't grilled and it in no way resembled beef tenderloin. Or a kabob. It sat on a sweet sauce that begged the question, why? Entrees were ridiculously small , not seasoned properly or even as described, and do not come with rice -- for $25 each. The Naan was fresh and passable. Overall: This was not good food. The servers most looked confused. The owner/front of house person was not very hospitable. I hope there's some competition for this place, soon. Can't believe this is the first review of this place. I love this restaurant. Any time I've eaten there the service has been exemplary and the food top notch. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere is relaxed. It is a little pricier than most places I'd frequent so I'd generally go there for an occasion or a treat instead of a quick bite to eat. They do a reasonable early bird but in this case I prefer to have the choice of the main menu instead of being limited. I'd recommend the Champ Kandhari or Behari Kebab for starters, especially if you like your food spicy. Sticking with the spicy theme, the Mirch Masala Gosht is my favourite for a main. But really everything is so well prepared you could have anything and it would be fantastic. Chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes have gone down extremely well with anyone I've eaten with here. So go, stuff yourself and enjoy. Shouldn't have written this review, now I have to go and book again just thinking about it! read more

Without a doubt Malahide's best restaurant. Always busy no matter what time of the day you arrive, so make sure you call in advance. I am a regular customer as the food is amazing every time I go. The chicken tikka masala is a personal favourite. Their early-bird and lunch menus offer unbelievable value for the food you get, so make sure you get in and check them out. Although the mains are expensive I can tell you it is definitely worth it. The quality and quantity you receive wont disappoint. read more

I went to Ireland twice this year for work and the first time, everyone had asked me why I hadn't gone to Kajjal. So the second time around, this was my main priority. First of all, the place is PACKED during apparently all hours. I called around noon and the earliest reservation I could get was 9:30 PM (and apparently it is lucky to be able to make reservations on the day of). Although I can't really comment on the specific dishes since the names are rather complex, the dish I ordered was the best one I have ever had (and I have gone to dozens of Indian restaurants). There is simply not the same level of Indian food in my city. One thing of note is that the spice level is real. Don't order anything spicy if you aren't accustomed to it. read more

Superb restaurant in the center of Malahide specializing in Pakistani cuisine. Having never eaten Pakistani in the past, I didn't know what to expect other than hearing my close friends rave about their favorite menu items and cocktails at this restaurant. The Behari kebab appetizer was superb seasoned with a unique blend of spices that tickle the tongue in a satisfying way. For the main course, the grilled lamb chops were done to perfection - nicely matched with a cool mint based sauce. The desserts that followed - the Mississippi Mud Pie and Mango/Vanilla Panna Cotta - were the perfect sweet ending that one hopes for after an amazing meal. I am glad we finally decided to step in after passing this place tons of times on the way to town. The place is bigger than I was expecting from the outside. They have some seatings outside, and it would be nice to sit out on a summers evening. We got the prawn starter, grilled lamb plate, nan, and lamb curry. It was all pretty delicious. The grilled lamb was not over done and the spice herb rub was excellent. The papadum with the mango chutney and some sort of salsa was were so good we hovered it down like no one's business. The only thing I don't love is the music and the decor. It reminded me of like a disco. But you don't go to a restaurant for decor! So I think we will probably definitely go back again. read more

If you happen to be around the Malahide area and are in the mood for spice, rice and all things nice then this is your place. Malahide is a sea of restaurants which makes it hard to decide where to eat but with a recommendation of a colleague I booked a table. So away I went on the dart and popped along for their early bird which is amazingly good value at €21.95 for 3 courses. By the time I got there at 6:30 the place was buzzing and brimming to capacity which is always a good sign especially on a Tuesday night. The staff welcomed us with opened arms and brought us to our table from there we were greeted with complimentary poppadoms with a side of mango chutney and an onion spicy dip all of which were delicious. For my starter I ordered Chicken Boti which when it came out was so moist and flavorsome I gobbled it down in one breath. For my main I ordered their Prawn Korma, my friend ordered their Palak Goshti and we shared a side of bombay aloo, garlic nan as well as complimentary pilau rice. The Prawn Korma was sinfully creamy and the almond taste was really apparent. The Palak Goshti was really tender, the lamb metled in your mouth. You could smell the warm and fresh aroma of the garlic nan before you saw it and the bombay aloo was perfectly spiced. The early bird also includes dessert but their choices are limited to either rice pudding or ice cream. I went for the ice cream and it was really yum. The vanilla ice cream had bits of pistachio and honeycomb throughout. It was actually a lovely way to finish the meal after all that spice and flavour plus it was super light. Our bill came to €63 after all was said and done including the sides, a glass of wine, beer and peppermint tea. A few tips to know before going: BOOK, honestly the place was jammers when we arrived, the early bird runs from 4-7pm Mon - Thurs and is great value otherwise the menu is pricey. The service was fantastic especially taking into account how busy the place was. If you're looking for something different from the norm of Italians or seafood around this way, definitely check out Kajjal for incredible eastern cuisine. read more

When we walked in to Kajjal we were greeted very nicely and advised as that they're seating reserved and they can only accommodate us if we were fine at the bar. Did not make a reservation, so we lucked out that the outside seating is not reservable and there was no one sitting outside. It was a Tuesday evening in May around 7pm. In the future, I would make a reservation for this place so you can sit inside, in case of bad weather. In a great location in seaside Malahide. The food was great, and plenty of it. The drink was delicious, just slightly small for how expensive. This was expected, however, given the price of the meals. Tried Pakistani food for the first time, loved it! We went there for lunch on a Saturday, very quite and staff were super friendly :) Great deal - two courses for 17 euro . My favourite dish was chilli chicken, Naan and rice were perfect too. I would recommend it to everyone! Coming back for lunch again, seems they don't have enough staff to serve the amount of guests, we've been waiting for 20mins for both starter and the main course, water hasn't been refilled too. The ambiance is calm and classy, the restaurant and bathrooms are always spotless and the staff are always friendly, professional and accommodating. Kajjal is a Pakistani cuisine restaurant in Malahide. The decor is neatly arranged and the speedy waiters dress in an Aladdin-style outfit which adds authentication to the vibe. The food is fresh, delicious and genuine - if you're unfamiliar with Pakistani food it's very similar to Indian, so if you like that you'll surely like this! Wines are quite expensive but the rest of the menu is reasonably priced and worth every cent. read more

Absolutely spectacular! I'm a huge fan of Indo/Pak food and tried Kajjal on one of my frequent business trips to the outskirts of Dublin. It was early on a Monday night and things were rather quiet so we were concerned about the food quality in spite of the good Yelp reviews which got us here in the first place. Silly us! The service was great and the depth of flavor was fantastic. The palak paneer was sinfully (and somewhat surprisingly) sweet, and the beef dish (don't recall the name) was equally fabulous in its own way. The monkfish starter couldn't have been cooked any more perfectly. Yum yum yum. I expected top tier seafood from the Malahide area and there are great restaurants all around but don't let this one off your radar. I'll be back on my next trip to the area. read more

Booked a reservation for a friends birthday as the reviews were good. Arrived to be told that the cookers were down and food could not be prepared. Understandable difficulty as it was out of their hands, but it it would have been nice if they went out of their way to call their reservations to save the travelling and disappointment. read more
