Even the House Black Dal is thick and hearty with smooth, warm spices. My Lamb Chettinad is just incredible. A full game, peppery curry, bold and spicy with a bit of coconut to keep it smooth. My kids don't leave a single piece of naan uneaten, and even the roti is happily noshed by a kid that won't try anything new. The food is delicious, and the restaurant itself is also just so beautiful. The dining room is done in a rustic farmhouse style, with long tables and bench seats, perfect for a family to sit and share. Really beautiful meal at a very nice restaurant. The decor has recently been updated to provide a most authentic Indian atmosphere and as one walks in, the brand new soft and deep carpet provides immediate comfort and relief to the aching feet one is experiencing during the current hot and humid weather. We were as always warmly greeted by the friendly staff who even remembered our names from past frequent visits. We went for the Weekend Feast Menu which provides a most sumptuous four course lunch or evening dinner....poppadoms and dips, starter and main course with rice or naan lfollowed by REAL Coffee. The meal was so satisfying that although we went in at 1pm we were literally not able to eat anything else for the rest of the day. The hospitality, atmosphere and food offered by the proprietor Raj and his deficated team are all world class and although we don't get to see the chefs I would like them to know that we think they are doing a great job always and the dishes are always so consistent. I'd particularly like to mention my main course of roast duck chilli garlic masala which was truly out of this world. It was so delicious that I ordered the same to bring home for the next day. We ordered bhuna lamb, rice, and naan. The bhuna lamb was disappointing; instead of the expected rich, dark brown gravy, it tasted more like a butter chicken-style gravy. The naan was slightly hard and didn't seem properly cooked. Even the complimentary papad was stale and soft. The ambience was just okay, and the service... well, best not to say much. The tandoori chicken was cooked perfectly, beautifully seasoned, and paired wonderfully with the fresh red onions, rice, and naan. The Junglee Maans was the standout dish of the night--tender, flavorful, and coated in a rich, spicy sauce that had me scraping my plate clean. The butter naan was the perfect companion for soaking up every bit of it. We finished with the Raspberry Sorbet, served with fresh strawberries, raspberries, and white chocolate sauce. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and Cobra beer. The mango lassi had the perfect yogurt and mango accents without being too sweet, and was better than even the highly rated restaurants we went to in London. The Cobra beer was decent with regards to flavor. We tried the onion bhaji and chicken pakora to start off. The onion bhaji was a little bit oily, but great in taste and presentation, leaving us wondering how it was made as it was a pull apart variety while still preserving the chickpea batter accent with each bite. The chicken pakoras were also good, with a batter spiced just right. For main course, we ordered the butter chicken along with pulau rice and a naan. Nothing groundbreaking with regards to recipe, but just fresh and delicious food for these items. The pulau rice was better than plain basmati rice, and naan was a thin, but very generous portion. The food was so good that we returned a second night after being indecisive on where to go for dinner. The manager noticed us and provided us with mango lassi and a sampling of an aloo dish on the house, thanking us for being repeat guests. The mezze came with plentiful flatbreads which we hungrily filled with deliciousness and devoured. As it was lunchtime, we decided not to have any wine but I'd be pretty confident it would only be better with a crisp Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. As it was, we had some sparkling water instead and agreed it was a standout meal that was filing but also vaguely healthy. Service was speedy and attentive and we emerged into the sunshine to begin, once again, the odyssey across the Liffey. We will be back.
