    Curry chicken abura soba
    Kai M.

I am SO happy that Kajiken has opened in Boston!! I was first introduced to Kajiken in Baltimore, where my parents live. I arrived at around 5:30/5:45pm on a Thursday to meet a friend for dinner, and I was glad we arrived early! By 6:30 or so when we'd wrapped up, the place was completely full with people waiting to be seated. Service was quick and efficient -- the staff were prompt in taking orders, checking on tables, and bringing checks. I don't necessarily think this is the place to have a leisurely dinner, just because the restaurant is small and there's a lot of demand. But, definitely check out some dessert spots in Chinatown afterwards!!! I've been to Kajiken several times, and I would highly recommend their Abura soba, which are brothless noodles. I personally love the curry chicken bowl and get that most of the time -- it's the perfect mix of chewy and thick noodles, creamy and flavorful curry sauce, and a crispy and tender chicken cutlet. Definitely stir the bowl so it's completely combined and the sauce is evenly distributed, and you can add ground garlic, sesame seeds, vinegar, and chili oil, which are provided as additional condiments. Kajiken is so, so delicious, and I'm looking forward to coming back regularly!!

A great new noodle place that took over onezo. I came on a weeknight, early before dinner rush and ordered the original soba noodles and the takoyaki to share with my friend. The takoyaki was good, but the soba noodles shined. They were bouncy in texture and the pork was tender. The different sauces added lots of flavor and the restaurant was full of people. I'd come here again to try out their ramen and other noodle dishes.

I've been to Kajiken a number of times in the Bay Area and always liked my meal there. When I tried the newly opened location in Boston, it's fair to say maybe my expectations were a bit skewed. It seems like the menu is a bit different but I was able to order my tried and true favorite, Homura. My husband got the original and we also ordered the tebasaki (camera did not eat first). While nothing was bad, it also felt like nothing was as good as I remembered. Maybe I came in with too high of expectations, but generally if it's all under the same chain, surely there are certain standards that are followed? All in all I felt a bit disappointed. It was an overall okay experience.

Surprise that the place was half empty but probably because the weather. Two weeks ago, the place is packed. I tried roasted beef which was good and feel heavy at the end since I did not add any vinegar. Decent size that will make you full compared to other ramen place in Chinatown. Definitely will come back again.

New restaurant alert in Chinatown! Japanese restaurant serving appetizers, soupless noodle dishes, and traditional noodle soups. During their soft opening, their chicken based broth noodle dishes are unavailable. Loved how they transformed the place. It is much brighter and feels more welcoming. They don't accept reservations by phone or online, so you'll need to visit in person to add your name to the waitlist. I arrived right at opening (at 11am) and was the first customer. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was completely full. Their signature dish is soupless noodles that is served hot. I ordered mine with shrimp and it was perfect for a hot summer day. Super refreshing. The dish uses yellow ramen noodles. Condiments such as sesame seeds, chili oil, garlic crunch, and vinegar are available so you can customize. I also tried the tonkatsu ramen which was packed with flavor. The onsen egg was cooked perfectly. This entree uses straight white ramen noodles. Also ordered the char siu don. Although the menu describes it as a small portion, they were very generous with the protein. The pork was slightly on the dry side.

It was nostalgic being in here and remembering DK. How we all miss DK haha. New space clean, love the decor and the setup. I thought service was fluid overall, food came out relatively quick. We ordered Chicken curry abura soba Roast beef abura soba Chicken karage Fried oysters Plum sprite soda. The dishes we got were broth-less style. THe chicken curry, flavor wise for me was flat, the chicken protein itself was cooked well and still juicy. The flavor just didn't come thru. I did like that they had shakers for crunchy garlic, sesame, sesame oil, chili sesame oil (not spicy) and vinegar. So your condiments are all readily available. The roast beef broth i felt had better flavor, still a bit flat overall. The beef itself was pretty chewy, in a overly done, none tender way. I don't do oysters personally but the lady said it was juicy and had a nice crunch overall. As expected with the egg tarty dip, paired well. Chicken karage, cooked well, wasn't dry mostly, but it was just too bland for me. No marinate no pinch of salt or seasoning. Does come with 2 types of dip though. I believe the operation is still fairly new, i do love soba noodles, I'm hoping as things move, with some minor tweaks, another visit could change my mind. Overall OK and I think it's a good quick lunch. Probably give it some time if I was to try again. Perhaps try the ramen side of the menu though.

Dined here solo after seeing some posts online. I was so surprised to see a packed house a little before noon on Sunday, so I wonder if everyone was also trying out the hype they saw on social media. I was able to snag counter seating since I was by myself. Only ordered one item, the Homura, which reminded me of tan tan style ramen / mazemen. Unfortunately the service wasn't the best. Probably waited 20 min for my food to arrive though it didn't look too busy as much tables were already eating. The food also wasn't served with a spoon and I couldn't flag anyone down. I loved the condiments that were provided on the side. Abura soba (or mazemen in general) can get kinda heavy so the vinegar was really good at cutting through the richness of everything. This place reminded me a lot of Kenzoku Mazesoba near the Fenway area... I did wish Kajiken provided a complimentary spoon of rice like they did to sop up all the leftover bits at the bottom of the bowl. At that point I really wished I had a spoon. Getting the check also was a bit difficult. I am hoping the service improves a bit and would love to come back.

I was excited to try this new spot in Chinatown and I went on a weekend. It got pretty busy since there was a fair going on but I was able to get a table when it opened. The restaurant is very clean inside and there's a good amount of seating. My table tried a couple different noodle dishes and my favorite was the original. The fried oysters were a great appetizer as well.

Heard some good things about Kajiken & decided to give it a try the other day for dinner. They are a growing chain that has locations worldwide and in the U.S., you can find Kajiken in NY, MD, VA, IL, MN, & now Boston! Their location in Boston is where OneZo/Mochinut once was. We visited right before the dinner rush, so there was plenty of seating available ~5pm. The menu is simple; 8 different options for soba noodles, some ramen w/ broth options on the back of the menu, some apps, & drinks. We ordered the following to try: - chicken curry abura soba - roasted beef abura soba - chicken karaage - kaki fry -- deep fried oysters w/ egg tartar - salted plum sprite The roasted beef abura soba was what I had & it was okay. Pretty much just brothless yellow ramen noodles with a vinegary sauce. The roast beef was chewier than I would've liked but I guess it is roast beef lol. Each table has vinegar sauce, chili sesame oil, sesame seeds, and fried garlic crunch. The vinegar sauce helped me a lot to finish the dish. Chili oil wasn't spicy at all but was essentially sesame oil, no spice. I still enjoyed this more than the chicken curry soba though. The curry tasted flat, making it hard to finish eating. The vinegar and sesame oil helped a little but not much. On the bright side, the chicken wasn't dry! On to the appetizers: the chicken karaage wasn't bad. It was not dry but I found the chicken pieces to be bland. Chicken didn't seem marinated & breading was plain. Nothing special. The fried oysters were juicy and were exactly what I expected it to be. The egg tartar was a nice light sauce to dip with. The salted plum sprite tasted subtle & a lot less sweet than I was expecting. More like a plum seltzer. Overall, I thought Kajiken was okay, not that good but not bad. I don't think I'd come back again though. Food & service was very mediocre.

Nice new spot in Chinatown for "Abura soba". Which is a brothless ramen (aka oil noodles). Like typical ramen shops nearby. You order your base and then add on your fixings. It's fairly new so word has not quite gotten out. Decor is new, tables are new and it's definitely a new take on ramen in the area. Service was prompt and quick. We ordered a few items; everything came out hot. The brothless ramen was favorable by itself, and a decent size. I walked out fulfilled and would come back. I do wish there was a spoon to get to the bottom of that delicious ramen. They do have regular broth ramen but will have to try next time.

Came here twice! I love this style of noodle . Sauce on the bottom no soup. I got the duck and I've gotten the roast beef in my opinion I like the duck better. This place is relativity affordable and the service is pretty fast. Highly recommend!

Dinner tonight was at Kajiken, and I finally got to try their Abura Soba. I started with the Chicken Karaage, which came with two dipping sauces. The chicken was juicy, packed with flavor, and fried to crispy perfection. Honestly, it was good even without the sauce. For my main, I ordered the Homura Soba. The noodles had that perfect chewy, bouncy texture that I love, and once you mix in the raw egg yolk, it turns everything rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying. Simple, comforting, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed this meal, and now I have an excuse to come back and work my way through the rest of the menu. Definitely worth checking out if you're an Abura Soba fan.

Came around 5:20 and got seated immediately. We were a bit overwhelmed by the menu options but decided to go with the original and my friend got homura (egg+spicy minced pork). Food came out quickly and you can flavor it more with the provided garlic crisp, sesame, white pepper, vinegar and chili oil on the table. We tried it first without then added some to our preference. The original is full of flavor and the noodles had a good texture. My friend's homura came out very creamy with the soft boiled egg. We both enjoyed our dish and are already talking about coming back to try something new next time. When we left, there's a line out the door and people kept coming in to put their name down on the waitlist so come early!

Having been here twice now, getting the spicy cold beef udon and their special tantan udon is definitely the way to go (made the mistake of getting the soup udon the first time). The udon itself goes without saying. It is thick, super chewy, and cooked just to the right softness. The cold beef udon was perfect--the sauce has a great blend of flavors and is portioned correctly. The tantan was an interesting take that is different from typical Chinese tantan flavors, making it unique to their style. The main issue was the service flexibility. I asked for no cilantro on the tantan, and the server said they couldn't accommodate that request because they wanted to serve it the way the chef intended. This was ridiculous considering the cilantro was simply piled right on top rather than blended into a sauce or salsa. In the end, it was just a waste of time having to pick it all out myself. The best part was the table next to us were able to customize their bowl. The noodles and cold beef udon are outstanding, but untrained staff really changed the mood of the night.

The restaurant focuses mostly on soba or udon noodle dishes with a good selection between hot and cold options. It's not going to be the best udon or soba you've ever had. HOWEVER, I tried the cold ikura & uni cold soba and LOVED it. It's seasonal, so I tried that one out and was extremely surprised about how much I enjoyed the bowl. Not too much soup and the uni didn't completely obliterate when I stirred it up. They do use American wasabi though, and I found it superfluous to the dish and wished it was served on the side. But regardless, despite not having some extremely high quality noodles, the flavor and experience of the bowl itself was super pleasant. I ended up coming back the very next day because I wanted to try their clam soba. The clam soba only comes hot, which is a bit unfortunately because I actually think a cold clam soba with some lemon or yuzu would be phenomenol. I've been seeing recipes for it online so I've been wanting to try it, but their clam soba is a lot more standard and hot. They had a very good amount of clams in it, but I generally like their cold soba better. Still good, but didn't give me that feeling of needing to come back the very next day like I did with the ikura-uni combo. Overall, I'd still come back when I'm in downtown!
