Am I gonna review Kaiser's Cafeteria? Why yes I am... While waiting for a surgery patient I wandered down to the large cafeteria. They seemed to have a lot of choices... Very neatly stacked snacks like energy bars, pretzels and pastries. They have a very nice looking salad bar sold by weight (.46 cents per oz.) The had a plastic cup you could fill with fruit or/and veggies for $2 that listed nutrient content ~ bonus points~ A grill station where you can order burgers and sandwiches~a special of the day station~ today was Vegetarian Coconut Curry over rice with vegetables $7.50 for cafeteria food it was decent, not great but decent for sure. Lots if drinks to choose from, as well as coffee. A pretty nice cafeteria as far as cafeterias go... Convenient. Very large sitting area's so you can eat alone or closer to other people whichever you prefer. You can sit outside in the beautiful garden, or inside facing the garden. Also the cashier was very friendly and had kind words for everyone... She was lovely!

Baked chicken mashed potatoes, summer vegetables

I love their food. Every time I'm their this is my go to. My preference are the salmon burger. I ask for pesto on it. No problem no extra cost. My last visit their I had the baked chicken special with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was very good. Except the mashed potatoes were a little hard and thick

These are the ones that sell out the quickest...

On numerous occasion I find myself among nurses and physicians early in the morning awkwardly lingering in front of locked gates that look strong enough to keep out even the most coffee addicted. Penitentiary style trays, chairs and floors but the ambiance goes up a notch as it overlooks a courtyard garden with seating areas. A small space between the two main towers with newly planted top heavy bamboo. I, like most, grab coffee and some baked goods - by now I've tried most of them and they are very decent. The swirly sugar one sells out quickly and they don't restock - so buy enough to get you through the day. Coffee has been excellent from the main cafeteria - but keep in mind I always grabbed mine as it opened at 8am. If in doubt there is a Starbucks within the cafeteria just to the side of the grill where they make breakfast sandwiches hot and to order. The California is light and healthy with turkey bacon, egg whites and a few spinach leaves. The chefs are sometimes different from day to day but they have all done their jobs well under the pressure that is a substantial line that they have fully in view. I usually sit myself on the long booth with my back to the wall facing the main entrance. I feel its the optimal location for good digestion. When I eat I sometimes think about the crazy landscape architect who thinks invasive bamboo is good idea... Things are a tad high in price if anything - but I think its worth it. One could walk to Dennys or La Pinata - both are nearby and have long hours. This place gives new meaning to cafeteria food - convince your friends that eating at a hospital is a good idea and take them here.

This cafeteria has a few breakfast options, from healthy breakfast like egg whites and turkey bacon, to eggs bacon and sausage plates, to omelettes, breakfast burritos and sandwiches. My bf really took a liking to their breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. You have the option to choose between a croissant or English muffin for your sandwich. I believe they change the menu during lunch and maybe even serve dinner (can't really say as I've never eaten here after 2pm). I notice that they also have ready to eat packaged food, fresh salad, soup, fruits, and pastries. They also have a mini Starbucks but with less options, of course. When the kitchen is closed they have the gate down. Luckily, they have vending machines outside of those gates for those wee hours of the night when you need that extra cup of coffee or microwaveable burrito when you are starving. They have microwaves for that, btw! Plenty of seats and tables inside and outside, even have a seating area right outside the cafeteria when you feel like breathing some fresh air.

This is not a grilled cheese.

People that give the Kaiser cafeteria four stars must not know how to cook or they're desperate to eat. How do you mess up a grilled cheese? Well, you can come order at the Kaiser cafeteria and find out because they have no basic knowledge of how to make a grilled cheese. They suck on the regular that's why I don't order ordinarily order food from them.

Chef's special of the day, BBQ rib plate

Who would have guessed...awesome tasting BBQ ribs in a hospital cafeteria. I had taken a family member to a doctor appointment, and it was almost noon. We thought, why not have lunch here? The cafeteria's located on the first floor; just follow the direction signs and you can't miss it - one of the few pleasant features in the place. Upon entering, vending machines and microwave ovens await those who arrive outside of food serving hours. The inside dining area is colorful and huge, with pictures of raw vegetables on the walls. There's also seating in a large outdoor patio area; some tables equipped with red umbrellas. But beware, if you sit outside, the door will lock behind you, and you'll have to knock to get back in. They serve breakfast and lunch daily, with dinner offered also on weekdays. For lunch, there are soups, a salad bar, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and much more plus daily specials. I chose the chef special that consisted of barbecue pork ribs with corn on the cob, and I substituted the coleslaw for salad. The ribs were excellent - worthy of being entered in a barbecue competition. The corn was sweet and tasty, and the salad was crisp and fresh. But you can't give Kaiser any credit, as they contract out to Fresh & Natural Food Service Group to run their cafeteria. There's also a selection of upscale drinks and ready-made sandwiches if you're on the go. Would definitely stop in again if hunger breaks out while at the hospital.

This is a really nice design. There is plenty of parking and the staff is really helpful.

This is a fairly new location and it's huge. The staff is so friendly and happy. I went in right before the station I needed to see closed and staff was quick and helpful. Parking is easy and plentiful. There is plenty of seating at every part of the hospital. I highly recommend this beautiful hospital to all.

Peaceful courtyard just outside the cafeteria doors.

The associate at service counter courteous, very helpful with answers to service & order related questions. Only 3 vendors available with slenderized menu. The kiosks easy to use albeit slow either due to software issues or designed lethargy to allow users to digest data provided. Names were called out when orders were ready. Text messages also utilized. My iphone didn't get one. It's busy porting from Xfinity to Verizon. No internet either. Not much decor. Just East Bay Eats painted on one wall. Adjacent wall has seemingly random lines of color. 3.5 stars YMMV.
