Most of the bars are dive bars in downtown Santa Monica, and parking is quite accessible for this place. So I'd recommend for that reason. In terms of the drinks, I'm a huge fan of cocktail but I would say their menu selections are a bit limited. Nothing in the signature cocktail looks interesting to me, so I had the bartender make a classic cocktail instead. He's very attentive and friendly, didn't take forever to get a drink either, no attitude. Drinks aren't watered down either. Nice! You come here to grab quick drinks when you don't feel like being at a loud dive bar in the area, it's in a hotel but not too upscale, no strict dress code. Wouldn't be self-motivated to come back because there are better places that specialises mixology, and there are also better upscale hotel bars to be at. We started with the Rye me a River cocktail and the Mezcal cocktail which were both perfect for our tastes. My mezcal drink was beautiful with a black salt rim and beautiful Smokey flavor (along with the word Chelsea spelled out on my ice cube). My friend loved his Rye me a River cocktail. For food, we started with the oysters and lobster sliders which I don't get a picture of, but they were both great!!! The lobster sliders were actually my favorite bite of the whole meal. My friend devoured the oysters, he loved them so much. We then had the boar ragu tagliatelle which was excellent. It was sweeter than most ragus that I've had, but that was my friend's favorite dish of the whole night. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly, absolutely perfectly, and the pistachio crust was delicious. We ordered steak frites and asked that the fries be truffle fries, which they kindly accommodated. So glad we asked because the truffle fries were delicious, they came with a cilantro dipping sauce that was delectable! The steak itself was cooked perfectly, and the gravy accompaniment was an excellent complement to the steak. We also got the peanut butter and chocolate turnover for my friend's birthday. Yall, it was SO good! It really exceeded my expectations. We will definitely be back! My friend was so happy with his birthday meal!! We found street parking, but they do have valet if you need it as well. The interior of the restaurant is lovely, great for a date night. Quick story: My girl and I date-night every Friday by fine-dining somewhere in LA. A week ago, we decided to try a new restaurant in Santa Monica. We go inside, look at each other, and say, "What the hell did we just walk into!" I mean, a lot of folks were drunk and loud with music blasting in our ears. Needless to say, it only took us seconds to decide this was not the place for us. So we leave, walk across the street where a restaurant called Kaif catches our eye. We walk up to the door and are immediately met by a greeter (who was very cool and also polite). We told him we wanted to have dinner. We were concerned because it was around 10:15pm and a lot of kitchens close in LA restaurants by 10pm if not 9pm. But he said "yes," takes us in to get seated, and from that moment on we could not get over what happened next. For me, it was like an out of body experience. First I had a light & refreshing skinny margarita. The food was absolutely scrumptious and delicious ... literally one of the best smoking ribeye steaks I've ever had in my life!! My sides. The edamame sea salt. My Caesar chicken salad. Her watermelon feta salad. A chocolate dessert paired with a creamy, tasty cappuccino. OMG! It was like heaven on earth. Next, we were escorted outside to enjoy a very spacious patio-like area where all the hookah smokers were, then seated in front of a very romantic-type, table-top fire pit. All of a sudden, we look up and the restaurant owner comes walking towards us. He introduces himself and graciously serves us 2 cups of hot tea from a very stylish, nicely designed glass tea pot ... on the house! OMG!! We never knew hot tea could smell and taste so good. Of course, we thank the owner. Then with a twinkle in his eye he smiles and says, "My pleasure. It's my own special recipe. My secret mix of ingredients." When this magical evening was all said and done, we were belly-full of joy and hospitality. As for the service at Kaif? Wow, wow, wow. Everyone ... from our waitress, to the bartender, and others on staff ... their entire team was sooooo friendly, polite, professional, attentive, and responsive. They made us feel like royalty. Without a doubt, this is one of the finest restaurants we've been to in LA, especially in Santa Monica. And take my word for it, we've been to a looooot of restaurants. Kaif is well worth the price, if not more. My girl (who btw is a bona fide FOODIE) and I can't wait to go back (lol ... and we don't even smoke hookah. But we don't care). We love the Kaif experience! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! High five! Other LA restaurants could learn a lot from you. read more

From the moment my friends and I stepped into Kaif, we knew we were in for something special. Greeted with utmost professionalism, we were ushered to our table in an ambiance that seamlessly blended comfort and sophistication. Our evening unfolded into a symphony of flavors and impeccable service. We embarked on a culinary journey that left us awestruck from start to finish. To begin, we indulged in an array of appetizers and drinks that set the perfect tone for the evening. The Greek salad, a vibrant medley of fresh vegetables and robust flavors, was a delightful prelude to the gastronomic feast that followed. The borscht, prepared with authenticity and care, transported us to the heart of Ukraine with every spoonful. As the main courses made their grand entrance, we found ourselves spoiled for choice. Each dish was a masterpiece in its own right, showcasing the chef's mastery of flavors and ingredients. Whether savoring the tender filet mignon, the exquisite veal tartare, or the decadent lobster macaroni and cheese, every bite was a revelation. And then came the pièce de résistance--the 32oz tomahawk steak. Cooked to perfection and accompanied by delectable potatoes, it was a carnivore's dream come true. Even as we approached the end of our meal, the culinary excellence showed no signs of waning. The apple pie dessert, paired with fragrant rose tea, provided a sweet conclusion to an unforgettable dining experience. In all my years of exploring the vibrant culinary scene of Los Angeles, I can confidently say that Kaif stands head and shoulders above the rest. With its impeccable service, exquisite cuisine, and inviting ambiance, it has set a new standard of excellence in the city. To sum it up, if I could rate this establishment higher than 10, I would. It's not just a restaurant--it's an experience. Thank you, Kaif, for an evening we will cherish for years to come. read more

Kaif - A Hookah & Dining Delight From the moment you walk into Kaif, you're greeted by a warm ambiance that strikes the perfect balance between an elevated restaurant and a cozy hookah lounge. The decor is stylish yet inviting--ideal for friend gatherings, date nights, or simply winding down after a long day. Food & Drinks Kaif's menu offers a delightful fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors. Each dish bursts with fresh, vibrant ingredients, skillfully prepared and beautifully plated. Whether it's the savory kebabs, flavorful mezzes, or zesty salads, everything is cooked to perfection. The drink selection--mocktails, teas, and juices--complements the cuisine wonderfully, rounding out the culinary experience. Hookah Experience Now, to the highlight: the hookah. Kostya is the true star behind the hookah bar. He greets each guest with enthusiasm and expertise, always ready to recommend flavors or craft a blend tailored to your preferences. Under his care, the hookah session is seamless--smooth smoke, consistent heat, thoughtful flavor pairings, and impeccable attention to every detail. It's clear he takes real pride in what he does. Overall Vibe Casual enough to feel comfortable, elegant enough to feel special. The service across the board is attentive--efficient, friendly, and genuinely invested in your enjoyment. Final Take If you're on the hunt for a place that nails both dining and hookah, Kaif delivers. With delicious food, a well-curated atmosphere, and Kostya's top-tier hookah service, it's a standout choice in town. Highly recommend--Kaif is definitely worth a return visit! read more

I recently had a deeply disappointing experience at Kaif on Woman's day at approximately 9:00 PM. My friend, a loyal and frequent customer, had made a reservation for four people. Upon arrival, we were told that there was no specific table reserved for us, despite my friend's confirmation. We were initially offered an inside table where shisha was not permitted, which was unacceptable as we came specifically to enjoy the shisha experience. When we requested a proper table, we were told to wait an indefinite amount of time. When the manager, Kate, finally intervened, they offered us a small table that was clearly insufficient for four people. When we explained that we needed a table for four, she became dismissive and rude, refusing to accommodate our request. What was particularly upsetting was the perceived discrimination against my friend. Due to his limited English, he struggled to articulate the situation, and it felt as though their manager took advantage of this. She showed a clear lack of respect and willingness to understand, and her behavior felt discriminatory. The restaurant's reservation system is clearly flawed, and the customer service is appalling. The manager, Kate, exacerbated the situation with her rude and discriminatory behavior. I strongly advise against patronizing this establishment if you expect to be treated with respect and fairness. We hope this review will prompt Kaif to address their reservation system and improve their staff's attitudes and behaviors, specifically regarding discriminatory practices read more

My experience at Kaif was honestly really disappointing. We arrived early and politely asked if we could be seated before our reservation, fully understanding if it wasn't possible. They were able to accommodate us in the non-smoking section (no hookah), and told us they'd move us at our reserved time (11:30). The restaurant didn't even seem overly packed, so that gave us some hope. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Our server took a while to come over, seemed confused about our order, and didn't bring us basic items like silverware or plates. We had to follow up multiple times--3-4 times--with different staff just to get a drink order. The food was also a letdown. The chicken pâté tasted awful (honestly like cat food - not that I've tried that but I would imagine so I couldn't even take a second bite), and the "hash brown" that came with it was cold. We sent it back, but it still ended up on our bill. On top of that, we were charged for calamari that we never ordered. By the time we finished dinner, we still hadn't been moved to the smoking section for hookah like promised. We couldn't wait any longer, so we ended up leaving without getting the full experience we came for. We did share our concerns, and the server offered a complimentary dessert, which I appreciate--but that wasn't really the point. I came for the full dinner + hookah experience, and it just wasn't delivered. Overall, really disappointing, especially considering the expectations. read more

Found KAIF on TikTok when I was searching for hookah bars in LA. I loved the IG videos I seen and looked at their IG. I went there that evening and it was beyond what their social media had on their feeds. The ambience gives Tulum vibes. The atmosphere is dark, sexy and sultry. Now to the service. I live in Vegas so customer service is a huge thing for me when traveling. EVERYONE at KAIF was extremely polite and catering to every need. Even when it got busy. Me and my fiancé were given a bunch of recommendations from hookah, tea and food. Favorite hookah (out of the 3 I tried) "Cookies and Milk" it paired well with every tea and dessert. "Pine Cone" tea was my favorite Loved the Pita Spread. I didn't have any specialty cocktails so can't say much on that. It does take about 10 mins for a hookah to come out but that's because their prep is to perfect it. The DJ tops off the atmosphere with electric arabian music that makes for a relaxing but still fun environment. & on the weekends a violinist comes in and co performs with the DJ & it sets the place off. Honestly if I could give this place 10 stars I would. The hookah is the best I've had in 9 years and the atmosphere and comfortability is something hookah bars NEVER have all together. A 10/10 definitely coming again. read more

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Kaif. I was booking a 20+ person event and they lied about the deposit, tripled the price less than 72 hours before the event. Dont take the risk and go with a more reputable vendor with mannerisms and professional customers service. As a member of the National Association of Catering and Events in Ventura, I was organizing a gathering and was initially told it would be $10 per person or a $200 minimum spend on appetizers. Based on that information, I collected $10 per person from attendees. Later, they completely backtracked on their word, claiming they never said that and insisted on a higher amount. Instead of addressing the situation professionally, they were dismissive and outright rude. It felt like they were gaslighting me rather than taking accountability. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in the hospitality industry, especially when dealing with event professionals. If you're looking for a place that values transparency and customer service, I'd strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at a hookah lounge. I paid with cash and expected my change back so I could decide how much to leave as a tip. Instead, my change was never returned, and I had to ask for my own money. That is completely unacceptable. The service was awful from start to finish. I ordered a tea, and it took an incredibly long time to arrive. The staff were inattentive, unprofessional, and rude throughout the entire visit. What made the experience even worse was the manager. I spoke to the manager expecting the situation to be handled professionally, but instead I was treated with disrespect. The manager was rude, dismissive, and showed no concern about what had happened. There was no apology and no effort to resolve the issue. This place has terrible customer service and made me feel completely disrespected. I will never come back and would not recommend it to anyone. If you decide to visit, be very careful when paying with cash and make sure you receive your change. read more

I had the most amazing time at Kaif Restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was perfect--stylish and comfortable. The food? Absolutely incredible! The truffle burger and Veal tartar is hands down the best thing on the menu--so flavorful and unique. I also have to mention the drinks--crafted to perfection, and the hookah is super smooth, just like it should be. Milena, our server, was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. I can't recommend this place enough--whether you're coming for the food, drinks, or hookah, Kaif is the spot! read more

Came for dinner!…read more FLAVOR (4.2/5): 1. PHYLLO BAKED FETA: Probably the best dish of the night - perfectly flakey, with a good mixture of sweet and savory from the cheese and honey. A great appetizer to order for the table. 2. HUMMUS: The hummus was delicious with the pita! Another great appetizer to share. 3. GREEK FRIES: The fries were flavorful and came with two dips. If you're a big fan of fries I would recommend. The portion size was decent. 4. CHARRED OCTOPUS: The octopus was good and tender, but I feel like the main dishes we ordered fell flat compared to the appetizers. 5. JIDORI HALF CHICKEN: The chicken was okay, a little dry despite the shakshuka sauce. SERVICE (5/5): Service was good! AMBIENCE (4/5): Fun rooftop restaurant in Santa Monica. I was seated at table that didn't have the best views, but seeing the sunset with the comfort of a heater was still pleasant. PARKING (3/5): I parked street, but they may have valet - not sure. TAKEAWAYS: I liked Calabra and would have loved to try even more of their offerings - the branzino especially caught my eye. Unfortunately I probably won't be going back because although the food is good, it doesn't justify the price point. For reference, Bestia's marinated olives appetizer is 9 dollars, while Calabra's is 16.

Quite a beautiful rooftop restaurant located in the very fancy Santa Monica. Came here as part of a…read morework dinner, so I was in a large group (12 people almost!). The beauty of Mediterranean food is that it's perfect to share with large groups. Because I had some fellow vegetarians (and veg friendly people) with me, ordering was quite fun. We almost ordered every vegetarian mezze, which included: Mezze sampler: the Muhammara was my favorite of them all and the naan was amazing. Very soft, but flavorful. Sprouted cauliflower: interesting way they made it. Golden tahini had a nice touch. Pickled vegetables: loved them Greek fries: can't go wrong with that Roasted sweet potato: surprisingly quite good and a very different palate from the fries. Baked feta: interesting, but this wasn't a fan favorite amongst the group. While our non-vegetarian colleagues enjoyed the octopus, we were nearly full with just the mezze. We decided to go ahead and order the mushroom skewers while the other side enjoyed the tomahawk. Everyone was full after all this food. The cocktails kept flowing. I stuck with just one Urfa mezcalita while enjoying the views for the remainder of the night. This lasted until dessert where plenty were ordered. I got a chocolate gelato not realizing I'd get two scoops. Sadly I could only finish one scoop. Anyhow, there are heaters all over the rooftop so that people can enjoy throughout the year. They do have to crank it up as needed, but it's there. Can't mention price much because this was work sanctioned, but it was a great decision.

The restaurant is located inside a hotel and does offer reasonably priced valet service. The restaurant itself is gorgeous! Beautiful on a sunny day. Outside dining tables have a partial view of the beach. There was also a live DJ playing upbeat music. Not too loud so you can still comfortably talk. Food wise, everything was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. I ordered the pancakes and chicken and loved it. The butter with it was incredible! I also tried a bite of the steak and eggs. This dish was also yummy! This is a solid spot for an elevated weekend brunch. I would come back here again!

Stayed at the Sandbourne and enjoyed this convenient and tasty restaurant at the hotel!…read more Sandbourne had a great feature where I can pre-pay for breakfast while booking our rooms and I'm so glad we did. After a late night, we had decision paralysis for what to eat so we just dragged ourselves to the hotel restaurant. We didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised by the great ambiance and delicious food The staff was amazingg. We had an older gentlemen help us both mornings and he had great recommendations. We loved the calamari, burgers and chicken with waffles. The eggs benedict and mushroom omelet was decent but not memorable. We tried a latte and hot coffee and it was simple but good If we stayed at Sandbourne again, we'd probably dine here again for the convenience and ambiance

She left declaring it her new favorite date night spot in LA. I have zero notes. Let's start with the basics: the whipped truffle butter is the real deal. It made me completely abandon any carb hesitations and I regret nothing. From there fig and ricotta crostini, tuna tartare, confit duck, dry aged ribeye, brussels sprouts. Every single dish a 10 out of 10. Chef David and his team have built something truly special here. This isn't just one of the best restaurants in Santa Monica or the Westside it's one of the hottest in all of LA right now, and rightfully so. The food, the ambiance, the energy all firing. Myles delivered exceptional service from start to finish, making a special night feel even more memorable. Already planning the return visit for the caviar. La Monique, you have a fan for life

Greeted by our very kind waiter, we were served the most delicious toasted bread, butter(s) and rock salt from La Boulangerie. As a film nut, of course I ordered the Cinema Paradiso, this is a very imaginative cocktail recipe, like a an Old Fashioned but with a movie theater twist, kindly served with a pinch of candy kettle-corn at our table by the mixologist herself; what a playful and tasty delight! For starters, we are ordered the Mini-French-Onion Grilled Cheese and Hamachi Crudo. Both absolutely delicious. The Hamachi Crudo Leche de Tigre sauce is beyond perfect. The balance of flavors between charriness of the bread and melted cheeses, and tangy onion soup dip...just wow. Then the steak! Accompanied by a delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we shared between two, a perfectly cooked (medium rare of course, don't be basic) N.Y. Strip (au poivre sauce on the side) with au gratin, and it came with nice little on the vine roasted tomatoes and a little leafy salad...like I told Chef when he came to our table post meal: "INCROYABLE!". Every-Single-Bite!! But, aside every dish being perfect and the service being above and beyond, what literally brought me to tears was the dessert. I haven't had "floating islands" since my mom used to make it many, many moons ago (unfortunately ma is now at early dementia), and when I tasted my first spoonful here, I couldn't hold back the tears, memories flooded and complimented by the preceding meal which was perfect...too many feels. Merci Beaucoup! For a VERY special culinary experience to all at La Monique. Please don't change a thing. I rarely ever make the effort to write a review, but this is very much worth every second. We'll be coming back for sure. Feel like I just discovered fire.

Today, despite that history, the "head chef" flat-out refused to prepare my food without sesame because apparently doing so would "compromise the integrity of the dish." What made this even worse was the management's response. I specifically asked to speak with a manager, and the manager refused to even come speak to me. Instead, they sent the waiter back to tell me they would not accommodate my allergy. I understand that restaurants sometimes cannot safely accommodate certain allergies. But refusing an accommodation that this restaurant has successfully made for me roughly 10 times before--and then having a manager refuse to even speak with a customer about a serious food allergy--is unacceptable and incredibly disappointing. If you have food allergies, I would strongly recommend avoiding Kassi. I certainly will not be returning.
