Left after one drink, and went to another bar. Most of the bars are dive bars in downtown Santa Monica, and parking is quite accessible for this place. So I'd recommend for that reason. In terms of the drinks, I'm a huge fan of cocktail but I would say their menu selections are a bit limited. Nothing in the signature cocktail looks interesting to me, so I had the bartender make a classic cocktail instead. He's very attentive and friendly, didn't take forever to get a drink either, no attitude. Drinks aren't watered down either. Nice! You come here to grab quick drinks when you don't feel like being at a loud dive bar in the area, it's in a hotel but not too upscale, no strict dress code. Music is not loud and they have couches and booth if bar table if not your thing, you don't have to yell or pretend you hear everything to hold a conversation here (lol). ** Keep in mind 20% gratuity is automatically included in bill, it's my first time here. But I think I've other spots I'd prefer to be in, even at Santa Monica. Wouldn't be self-motivated to come back because there are better places that specialises mixology, and there are also better upscale hotel bars to be at. It's a mild spicy level and featured delicious ingredients, a dried lime and had a smooth boozy taste with dressed salt. We came here around 6:30/6:45 pm on Saturday night for a drink before our dinner reservations nearby at 7:30. The drinks were fine - I ordered Honey Be Cool and my husband ordered Naughty Peach. I was not overly impressed with mine and my husband's tasted like an odd mix of ingredients. It was fairly quiet since it was so early (I'm assuming it may get busier later). That said, the service was awful. We waited 20+ minutes to be acknowledged and when we finally were able to order, we had to ask for the check immediately because we didn't want to miss our reservation. It would have been fine if one of the bartenders had at least hit us with "I'll be with you in a minute." Stopped into Bar Chloe for the first time in a while. Same old-school, classy vibe as always, the bartender was friendly, and the cocktails were decent. Low rating because they've jumped on the trend of sneaking a surprise 20% service fee onto your tab at the end. In CA you're supposed to communicate this fee prominently to the customer, before they order. I had to go back and view Yelp photos, which show it's on the bottom of the menu in the smallest type possible, in a lounge that's so dark you need a candle or cellphone to even read the normal typeface. Sad to see a classy place go this route, as it means Bar Chloe is off our list - we don't go back to places that use this tactic, and make a point of warning others about it. read more

They add a 20% mandatory service charge to every check, but then label it on the bill as a "tip." That's misleading and potentially illegal under California law, where tips must be voluntary and service charges must be clearly identified as such. By disguising a mandatory fee as a tip, Bar Chloe is tricking customers into thinking they're supporting staff when in reality, the business controls where that money goes. This is a textbook case of unfair and deceptive business practices. If you care about consumer rights, avoid this bar and report them to the City of Santa Monica's Consumer Protection Division. There are plenty of bars in Santa Monica that operate transparently. Bar Chloe is not one of them. read more
