As usual I had an amazing experience at Kai!!! Of course when I say experience I truly mean experience because in every aspect of the business it is flawless. From the posh seating and ambiance to the absolutely delicious food it receives 5 stars. Not to mention excellent service every time!!! For sushi I had the Maki Maki Beef roll and never did I imagine that a roll with steak could be so delicious! I also had the New York Strip and it was cooked perfectly and the potatoes that came with it were buttery and amazing. I don't know how many times I can rave about a restaurant. This is by far my favorite restaurant for any occasion. Wether I am celebrating, on a date, or grabbing drinks with friends I will always choose Kai because I know that every time I go it will be AMAZING!!!! read more

I went to the Kai today! I ate sushi too. I'm not sure the exact name of that sushi. But it was amazing performance and delicious. I can't find some Asian foods around downtown, technically I think that I found the place that I wanna go again:) tastes is quite similar when I ate in my country. Wifi connection is quite hard, but it's not related with foods and restaurant,Lol! Atmosphere of here seems like 'bar'. Whenever I go to some Asian restaurant, there are typically some dark atmosphere. They don't care about their interior(it's my personal opinion.). But this place is quite modern and cool!! Really excellent sushi. I love the vibe of this place. Super unique so you won't find something like this anywhere else. I got the 10-piece nigiri and even their akami -the red tuna- is great. I'm sure the chu-toro and otoro would be amazing. Drinks were OK, nothing special really, and maybe a little weak for the price. Menu is big with lots of options. Mostly everything is similarly priced compared to other places. Really enjoyed it though. First time getting the late night sushi special and it was great! Calling ahead and pick up in 15 mins was very easy and convenient! Their $5 rolls to choose from are so good and filling! Wow, we had a night out with no kids and we were going out and doing things right! First on our list was good, kid free grown up food. The upstairs dining room was plush and posh and very well adorned. Wine was ordered and a great happy hour menu was being studied. We chose the sushi roll happy hour deal, 3 half rolls for only $10 all three were great; 3 appetizers for $10 and they were great and unagi of course because it's our favorite. So why one star? Half way through the meal my girlfriend felt nausea and had to excuse herself to discreetly vomit, maybe it was the new meds. We finished the meal and headed to the show. About half way through the comedian wasn't funny for me anymore as my stomach cramped and I felt sick. By the time we got home I felt awful and spent the night in the toilet. Went for lunch because reviews said they had good lunch prices. Not really; $26. Plus tip for a salad, bowl of soup, one sushi roll (roll was excellent) and korean short ribs. I know you think short ribs ooh that's a big dish. Not really, the bone and meat were sliced so thin, it was maybe 1/4th if an inch. You got 4 or 5 of these. Nothing else but some scattered grilled onions on the flat grill. No silverware given to eat with the.just chopsticks. Asian food is usually chopped in bite size pieces because of the chopsticks. The salads are not usually large chunky leaves. This salad looked like something at a 4th of July picnic that you would smother with thousand island dressing, not a posh upscale downtown restaurant. The house ginger dressing was little more than bottled ginger dressing from walmart with a thin drooling of mayo added. Won't do any of the meals again, but would do takeout of the sushi roll (sex in the city roll). read more

But what really brought this review to 5 stars is our waitress, Jenn. She was outstanding. I've been coming here for a while now and I absolutely love it. It's a grate vibe. Place is clean, well taken care of. The times we went I've had the same or different waiters and they have all been amazing. Do be patient for they get busy sometimes and the waiters get flooded with orders but when they reach you they do the absolute best to help you as much as possible. Always exceptional service with amazing food. They can get pretty busy so be sure to call ahead with reservation. They have very tasty appetizers and the food is great. I think they have the best sushi and nigiri in town. You have to try the American Beauty roll it's amazing. I can honestly say it touches my soul when I taste it. Both my wife and a friend have laughed at the look of bliss on my face while eating this roll. Everything is fairly priced. For example their lobster roll is a few dollars cheaper than most places and just as good. The upstairs is a wonderful atmosphere dimly lit and very well decorated. I used to love Kai, and ten years ago went monthly, but the last 4 times I've been, not only was the service ridiculously slow (I'm talking 1 hour for drinks, nearly 2 for sushi), the servers were also very rude. The "understaffed" excuse, which I'm very considerate of usually, doesn't apply to one of those times because it was 3-4 years ago pre-pandemic. I've waited this long to write a review because I keep hoping it will improve, but the last time I was there for a birthday party and it went from just the service being awful, to the food being terrible as well. We were all there over 3 hours and only got 2 drinks simply because the server wouldn't return. We left still hungry and it ruined my friend's birthday. A "I'm sorry" goes a long, long way, but the server acted like we should all be apologizing to her for being in her presence, and because the party was large enough the gratuity is included. My husband is from a culinary background and it takes a lot for us to complain, but enough is enough, we will not be returning. read more

Love this sushi place! I visit it every time I'm in Springfield for work! Delicious rolls, tasty drinks, and great service! I've tried a few sushi rolls and enjoyed all of them! Sometimes I fine sushi can be a little bland but their rolls have great flavor and seasoning. Well, I have been forced to eat the sushi served at the local Chinese buffets and completely unaware that a place like Kai existed until my friend took me there. It was dark in there. I've gotta say I wish I liked this place. I wish I liked it so much that I have gone back time and time again to have a better experience, but every time it was been terrible. The hostesses are rude as all get out. I'd dropped in once to meet a friend last minute and I wasn't exactly dressed for Kai and at first I thought maybe that was why I got dirty looks and rude service when I came in, but turns out they just aren't nice ladies working there or if they are they have never treated me the way a customer should be treated. No wait staff is different. They are great as far as personality goes, they simply lack in serving skills. Whatever, I'll take the niceness and an empty cup of water than someone being a jerk and always making sure I have a full glass. Now the food. I hate it. That's a nice word here. I expected so much from this place only to be highly disappointed in everything I have tried. I am a big sushi lover. And when I say sushi I mean all types. I like the Americanized fried rolls drenched in sweet sauces just as much as I want someone to slap a hunk of delicious white or fatty tuna on my plate and call it a day. This place doesn't have a single sushi roll I would recommend which is pathetic and sad. If you like eating good food, don't come here. If you want good sushi, go somewhere like Umi. I made reservations a month ahead. I was actually excited to come here with my son last May after my husband remembered that it was a decent place to get sushi from his college years. It was walking distance from our hotel. We live in LA and I usually tag along during his annual business trips. This night we came happened to be our son's 2nd birthday, but my husband was working, so it was just me and the baby for dinner. It took forever for us to even get acknowledged after we got seated upstairs, I had to call a bus girl's attention. I guess they were so busy that night that the same girl was told to become our server. She was sweet, but had ZERO idea about the menu. I guess to this place, a mother and toddler seemed a safe enough bet to be thrown a not-even-in-training server because they probably thought we didn't know any better. Well unfortunately for them, we're very experienced sushi eaters (YES even my 2 year old!). It took an hour for our food to come, I was sure because anyone with a toddler knows that they don't sit still for long, especially if they're hungry! His TINY roll came out and it was just an imitation crab roll lightly breaded and fried, zero sauce or anything special to it. I tried to ask for some good cooked rolls when I ordered but like I said, the "waitress" was absolutely clueless, and I had to settle for her "asking the kitchen". What an absolutely horrible experience!! I took my boy to Izumi Hatake the the next day for lunch for his own Huge (and Delicious!) Lobster roll to make up for a terrible dinner. After hearing everyone talk about Kai, I finally found myself at Kai. Wow what a disappointment. I guess it's the atmosphere that everyone talks about, which is great. As for the calamari appetizer, no flavor and essentially they were greasy fried rings of batter F. Pork pot-stickers they were okay, but nothing to brag about C. We ordered OMG, TNT, a vegi roll and Jurassic Park.....Grade C, B-, C-, C+ in that order. They all tasted the same and I think some of the product in the rolls was old, you never want your sushi smelling like a dead fish. Safe to say I will not be back. This is the only sushi joint I tried while visiting Springfield for work. I was impressed by the decor; it felt like an upscale, Vegas style club. Lots of rich tones, heavy fabric, and beaded curtains. It looks like a really cool place to hang out, or one of the few options in the area. My co-worker and I dined here for lunch. We had a few sushi rolls that tasted great. We didn't have any of the traditional sashimi, nigiri, or rolls. They have pretty fancy dishes and sushi on their menu and the prices are comparable to what I'd see at restaurants in Seattle. The major downside of my meal was the miso butterfish. The fish tasted old and had a weird flavor. I won't order the miso butterfish, but if I'm back in Springfield, I'll dine here again. read more

This is mostly due to groups going and me wanting to hang out with my friends, not wanting to kill the party by saying "holy crap i hate this place and I have a mortgage to pay, so ill get the water". Each time ive gone in a group our waiter or waitress has been stellar. Spot on with the "can i get you a refil, and ill laugh at your joke" vibe. There is this place hidden within the brownstones of downtown Springfield, that definitely spend alot of money on their led changing wall hehehehe. The atmosphere is bazar, are you in Missouri or Miami? Whichever the case the sushi here is good, the presentation always makes them taste even better. There is tempora vegi/cheese dish served with avocado sauce that is definitely a most. On Wednesday nights they have very cheap sushi deals. Overall its a good night out in the town. read more

I love the slightly brothel-like atmosphere and low lighting. The booths are huge, should you ever get into one. Get their fried mozzarella asparagus thingies (can't remember the technical term). Those are sooooo delicious. Do yourself a favor, sit at the bar. The bartenders are very knowledgeable, friendly and funny.
