Pickle martini
Monica M.

I didn't know what to expect when I looked up sushi restaurants in Springfield but I'm so glad I found this place. I sat at the bar and the bartender was such a gem! So sweet, attentive and she made a delicious pickle martini with her homemade pickles! Best pickles I've ever had, by the way. And then there was the Chirashi! Fish was fresh and high quality! I was thoroughly impressed and would highly recommend this place to anyone craving sushi. This place was such a great find and a type of restaurant and quality that you'd expect from a fancy sushi restaurant in a major metropolitan city. Do yourself a favor and check it out and sit at the bar to hang out with the awesome bartender.

Nigiri Dinner

I was a bit disappointed. I got the nigiri dinner, and for some reason, it was subpar. The fish and rice were a bit dry, as though they had been sitting out for a while. I couldn't help but think it was only a step above grocery store nigiri except twice the price. I was really sushi-d out by the end of the meal and haven't been craving nigiri since. It was kind of a small restaurant downtown with a nice ambiance, and it looked like it was a popular spot for date nights. If you are interested high end nigiri in Springfield, I'd go for 'Ariake Sushi & Robata' instead.

I think I should update my previous review. Unfortunately I was starving so my phone did not eat first. The first time I visited I really did not enjoy my time, however this time was pretty good. The drinks we amazing and the best was the pomegranate margarita in my opinion. We also had salads, edamame and the lettuce wraps which are the best! I would say I am gluten free and the gluten free menu needs a little work. It would be nice if the Items had descriptions instead of asking the servers as some of the rolls were not on the other description sheet. Altogether way better experience and the atmosphere is unmatched in Springfield.

This is NOT a COVID safe place. Employees don't wear masks. The menu is diverse and the food is very good! The space is also fun. I went during lunch but I can tell it's an amazing scene at night.

Decided to try this place for date night and it did not disappoint! Our sushi and appetizers were all delicious. Gage is the BEST bartender and Alycia was our amazing server. Highly recommend trying this place!

The service could not have been better, the atmosphere was fantastic, the food was quick to the table even though they were extremely busy, the presentation of the food was beautifully done and every bit of it was AMAZING! We will most definitely be back and highly recommend everyone give this place a try.

This is a great place to eat and grab a cocktail! I eat more than I should have! I went during happy hour and had a few half rolls and the OMG roll Everything I would order again!

We were ordering Edamame and Miso Soup to start! Fav sushi: Sex in the City & Miami Vice

Kai is my favorite late night sushi place! The service is always excellent. If they're busy do not get the fried sushi to go... it always taste like the rice is over boiled and it's this mushy, almost tasteless glob. Other than that, love this place!!!!

My husband and I visited Springfield for a little getaway on our way a little farther north for a wedding. I planned a date night here and we were both glad I did. Our waitress was good. The dark moody atmosphere was great. The drinks and food were amazing. Except the crème brûlée, don't order that. Lol. But everything else, top notch.

Had a reservation manager didn't honor it.

They Won't honor your reservation when you go in and made through open table. Guess what? They use open table for reservation so why won't you Honor it? Reservation System work and sync with restaurant. Manager's answer was because we made the reservation 10 minutes earlier. Horrible service. Could have offer bar seating or anything since screw up in their end.

If you can't tell by all the pictures of sushi I'm obsessed with Kai!!! I have been going to Kai for years and I almost always have a great experience. The food is always so fresh and delicious. And the drinks are always strong a tasty. I have tried serval items on the menu and my top three go to sushi rolls are: 1) Oh My God Roll 2) Spicy Tuna #2 3) Jurasic Park Roll. When I'm craving something other than sushi I order the Lobster Mac off the hot appetizer menu which is definitely enough to fill me up! I live in Vegas now and can not wait to go back to Kai next time I'm in town!

I hadn't been to Springfield in years, so I asked a local where I should stay for a quick overnight…read moretrip. Without hesitation, he said, "You've got to try the Vandivort." I'm so glad I did. The moment I stepped into the stylish, contemporary lobby, I felt like I'd walked into a boutique hotel in SoHo. The design is chic, modern, and full of personality. I arrived early and was pleasantly surprised to get access to my room right away -- a spacious, beautifully appointed room on the fourth floor of the hotel's main building. (Tip: there's a second building across the alley in back, so if location matters to you, be sure to ask which one you're in.) My room was terrific -- upscale furnishings, high ceilings, and a bed so comfortable I wanted to bring it home with me. Great mattress, perfect pillows -- everything you hope for in a good night's sleep. As luck would have it, the hotel was celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a lobby reception just as I was heading out to a meeting. The place had a celebratory buzz. When I returned, I made a beeline to Vantage, the rooftop bar, for an Old Fashioned. They were out of Angel's Envy (my go-to), but the bartender made a solid one with Woodford Reserve. A quick evening shower made the rooftop a bit humid, so I headed downstairs to The Order, the hotel's lobby bar -- equally impressive, with a standout liquor selection and, yes, Angel's Envy in stock. Round two. The next morning, I hit their fitness room in the back building, followed by a run through downtown. Afterward, I grabbed a surprisingly good $10 breakfast burrito from the on-site café. My only real quibble: no complimentary coffee in the lobby. For a boutique hotel of this caliber, it's a small thing that would make a big difference. Overall, Hotel Vandivort delivered style, comfort, and a memorable experience. If you're heading to Springfield and want something with personality and polish -- stay here. Highly recommended.

The first couple of visits were decent, but the service eventually went plummeting downhill. The ambiance and food is good, and it seems like a very calm space, but it is overall not worth feeling unwelcome and out-of-place. There is a reason why typical nights at another laid-back, 21+ bar (Flea, Grad School, etc.) is packed with people, while Mudlounge is usually at medium capacity at best. The consistent amount of different events at Mudlounge may be a sign that the business may need these events to get people to come to the bar. Maybe Mudlounge would not need so many events if the environment and staff weren't so inhospitable. The only reason why I would choose to come to Mudlounge over another bar is the availability of food, but after my last visit I would rather just eat at a place like Picklemans or Greek Belly (restaraunts that are right next door) before going out to a bar. It seems that many negative reviews of this business echo my same sentiments, showing that this is a consistent issue patrons experience and not just a negative one off. It is unfortunate that a prime downtown spot is being taken up by a bar that lacks the typical Missouri charm and hospitality seen in other businesses.
