I had lunch here with a friend on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in October. It was warm enough to sit outside and dine. I decided on the nachos with grilled chicken on the side and a frozen margarita with salt. Our waiter was knowledgable and friendly (kudos here). He actually engaged in conversation and knew the menu. I thought my nachos were fine - nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. I wanted to ensure the margarita wasn't from some type of mix and the waiter informed me it would be made fresh - which it was. The only problem was I'm almost certain there was a scant amount of tequila in it. I know because I don't drink much and I feel alcohol almost immediately (especially tequila). So, I think the bartender needs some tips on how to make a drink. This may sound harsh but if you purchase a drink for $10 and up it better be fxcking good. My friend had the veggie tacos and she enjoyed them along with her non-alcoholic drink a mango something something that looked amazing. The location is great, especially on the patio where you can see the beach and watch the ferry and train come through. The staff were friendly and service was prompt, though there was a delay in one of our desserts which wasn't a huge deal but kind of unfortunate that one of us could have been done or nearly done if we hadn't waited for the other dessert to come out. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos and it was mediocre at best. The rice had good flavor but was cold and hard to eat with a fork from a metal bowl; the pineapple coleslaw was a hard pass - not even sure what that was except for wet cabbage with no hint of fruit. The tortillas on the tacos were hard - like they nuked them and then they sat for a bit so the edges had that hard crunch to them, in a bad way. The fish was also dry and not that flavorful - think chicken breast that baked in the oven a bit too long. The dessert was good. I had the chocolate mousse pie (which was the dessert that made it to the table first), and the whipped cream had melted into slop by the time my friend's dessert came out. I'd say the closest thing to this pie would be the Hershey's pie from Burger King - similar is flavor and texture, but less commercially made. Overall it was a so-so experience. Would I be back? Okay, so this was a third try. The first two were when Kahlo's first opened and were disappointing. I decided to give them a try again. Arrived at the hostess station, staff walked by like I wasn't there. Ordered their "signature" margaritas, time for a new recipe. Got their chicken enchiladas with vegetables and corn sides. The enchiladas arrived slightly warm, the vegetables were nothing more than wilted and steamed. The corn was good. Service throughout was off putting. They actually had a video game replay on the TV and when I asked if something else could be shown the woman said, we only have YouTube! In a rude manner. If that's the case, remove the TVs. The entire experience was terrible and their prices reflect their premium location. There are many fantastic restaurants in Edmonds. Choose another and wait for Kahlos to fail and be replaced with something that is worth eating at. It's a shame. They did a nice job with the interior and it looks nice. Went to Kahlos to have a nice dinner with my husband. The setting was beautiful you get a great view of Edmonds beach. Our server was very attentive and catered to our needs- we asked if we could be seated inside as it get quite cold in the evening. He immediately went to look for a table and sat us down. I ordered the shrimp ceviche 10/10 I dream about that ceviche ! So so fresh and great portion. My husband got the carne asada it could have used more seasoning. His side that came with the carne asada were great. We both shared the queso fundido with chorizo and was ok. The drinks were tasty! What a wonderful new addition to the Edmonds waterfront area! I think there was an Indian restaurant here previously and I didn't get a chance to try it before it became Kahlo's. Oh well - it couldn't have been nearly as good as this new place! I had the shrimp appetizer and my friend ordered guacamole to go along with the chips and salsa and her lunch tacos. Everything was fresh and tasty! The ambiance in this light-flooded space is warm and inviting. The food warms the soul, and the drink menu looks like it can hold its own if you aren't here for eating! Our server was very attentive and when we let her know I was in the ferry line they were sure to get us on our way in a timely manner! This is my new favorite place by the water! As a mexican women I appreciate going to mexican restaurants that are authentic in their cuisine. First off- the server was accommodating to my family as we had a car seat that didn't sit right on the high chair. He made sure that our baby in the car seat was secure with the chair he offered us. The server was attentive and prompt to check in to see if we needed anything more. We ordered Appetizers- Nachos: Loved that they were served with black whole beans & not refried beans. They were well served & enough to share between 2 people. (Forgot to take photo) Ceviche: the perfect blend of spicy & sweet. Came with serrano peppers, you know its going to be good already. If you think ketchup is spicy this might not be for you. Entrees- Mango Salmon: The mango salsa complimented the salmon perfectly. If you want more of a "healthier" meal this is for you. Asada Tacos: Can never go wrong with tacos! The meat was soft & flavorful. Appreciate the slices of avocado. The salsa on the side was spicy & delicious. I liked that you get to choose the side. I ordered esquite which was exciting to see as not many restaurants offer it. & fries. My toddler ate that instead of ordering from the kids menu. Food, service and prices were all horrible. It's a shame because they have one of the best outdoor patios in town with a great view. It took us almost 45 minutes after being seated to be acknowledged, and over an hour until we got a drink. I understand that places get slammed but it started clearing out by the time we got our food, and our sides were wrong and drinks were empty and no one came to check on us. We got the guacamole and tacos, and everything was either super salty or soggy and bland, the veggies and fish taco tasted like they had expired. We sat there for another 30 minutes after we finished eating before we finally had to go find the bill ourselves. I want to like this place so bad. Woman acting as the bus boy snagged the drink and just as I realized what happened I could hear her dumping it down the bar sink. Lunch for two people with chips/salsa, two margaritas, a chicken burrito and carne asada should not cost $120 after tax and tip. Next time I'm at a restaurant, I will definitely look at the menu prices better and the added charges. I obviously didn't look at the price of the carne asada. It's a favorite of mine but $33. I came to Kahlo's Cantina with my mom and my dad to celebrate my mom's birthday with a dinner out. They had heard about the restaurant from some of their friends who highly recommended it, so we decided to check it out. The restaurant had contemporary decor and played music. The hostess was friendly and quick. The wait staff was kind and upbeat in their interactions. We got an indoor table by the windows facing the Edmonds ferry dock. Fun to watch people and cars get on and off the ferry as we enjoyed our meal (an early dinner). Food was spot on and good-sized portions. Normally I get fajitas when I go out for Mexican food, but I decided to try something different and went with the Pork Carnitas Burrito. The portion was large, the burrito tasty and I was one happy diner. My parents got an ensalada and tacos and they finished most of their food. Fun to have left overs to eat once I got home. We each had seafood enchiladas with lobster sauce. I opted for the rice & Mexican corn. Husband had the rice & black beans. Very good & tasty! Our waitperson was very nice and attentive. Not to mention they actually have a parking lot which is really nice for for downtown Edmonds. The atmosphere inside is gorgeous and I loved all the paintings/decorations. We started with chips and salsa and guacamole. The salsa LITERALLY tasted like water I was so confused why there was no flavor. But the chips were elite, I loved them. Guac was pretty good. There was 6 of us and we all got something different. Shrimp tacos: good but spicy, my mom loved the pineapple slaw Asada tacos: enjoyed the flavor Chicken enchiladas: decent but unnecessarily spicy Asada enchiladas: WHY IS EVERYTHING overwhelming spicy and no mention of it on the menu? And my family doesn't mind spice Carne asada: enjoyed it! Shrimp crema dish: my dad had food poisoning from this meal!! He was up all night puking :( The only real positive was the drinks. They were SOLID and I would only ever come here for the drinks. The food is a no go especially for the price, there are better Mexican restaurants walking distance from here. The lady bussing that night was not pleasant at all. When I simply asked for straws or extra water because no one came to fill it she looked at me like she was annoyed she had to do any work. I should have looked up this place on Yelp first. I don't know how they got the nod for the best restaurant in downtown Edmonds over the likes of Salt and Iron or Calypso in MyEdmondsNews. We went here for a Friday lunch and had some of the worst food I've had outside of a grade school cafeteria. Except they charge an arm and a leg for it. The staff was nice and view is hard to beat. There is just something about how none of the Edmonds waterfront restaurants care to serve an edible meal. We got salsa that tasted like tomato soup, shrimp ceviche that was mushy and tasteless, overcooked dried meats in tacos, and pretty sure they served us canned corn. Which in middle of summer is just lazy cooking. Corn wasn't even grilled, just dumped out of a can, probably microwaved and topped with cheese. This place might be good for a sunset margarita but that's about it. I'm not even mad at the restaurant because some places just have bad food, how MyEdmondsNews propped this place up is just straight up a crime. The food isn't that impressive, I was quite underwhelmed by the taste of it. Their sauces are very good, especially the house made spicy sauce. I was highly disappointed with both the service and the food. Our experience started off poorly as it took an excessively long time for our order to be taken. Unfortunately, the wait didn't end there--our food took even longer to arrive. When the food finally did arrive, it was far from satisfactory. I ordered two asada tacos, which were incredibly bland and very small for the price of $19, and they came with the wrong side order. To make matters worse, I was charged an additional $2 for hot sauce. A bottle of Tapatio was served at the table next to ours. When I requested hot sauce, that would have sufficed instead of a mini bowl of it. Overall, the combination of poor service, long wait times, and overpriced, tasteless food means I won't be returning. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I tried this restaurant with a friend yesterday and have good things to report. First, our sever was friendly and helpful with just the right frequency of checking in with us. Second, our food was delicious! I had the carne asada with black beans and corn. The salsa was flavorful, the meat cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the corn and beans. The only thing I wish was different is that the corn was taken off the ear. I really prefer roasted corn on the cob. The carne asada was served with queso, guacamole, and a roasted jalapeño- which I liked because I could choose my spice level by how much I added. I did not ask, but the texture of the tortillas made me think they might be freshly made in-house. They were excellent! Everything was fresh, flavorful and cooked well. My friend had the birrïa and enjoyed her meal as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant felt good too. I will definitely come again soon! read more

Why is it all so wet. My carne asada tacos were wet - the meat tasted like stewed roast more than sweet delicious grilled beef. My wife's steak fajitas were swimming in some strange tomato-y broth. The "street corn style" side was literally canned corn served in a cup with at least half of the cup full of corn water. Has anyone ever ordered corn as a side dish and thought - man, I really wish this corn was served drowning in liquid so I can have corn soup after I strain out the corn. The rice - a dish served the world over, was nothing more than rice and chicken broth with a few corn kernels tossed in and had an exterior crunch indicative of the amounts of time it had spent pre-scooped into mounds in the kitchen. Went here on 8/20/2023. I called 7 different restaurants before finding that Kahlo's Cantina seems to be the only place in Edmonds that will take a reservation for their outdoor tables. Since I had a large party (8 people) and one person who is immune-compromised, this was very valuable. Staff was incredibly friendly and appropriately attentive. They were nice enough to take a photo of our group after the meal and to let us stay parked in their lot while we walked to get gelato on the beach. When they heard it was a birthday occasion after we had already finished our meal and were leaving, they offered to package up a slice of cake for the birthday person. Very kind of them! Food was tasty enough that I would be comfortable going back. I got the birria tacos and they were flavorful and juicy. The side of corn was pretty good and the side of refried black beans was also tasty. There was a chunk of fat in the beef that was a little off putting, but not enough to prevent me from ordering this dish again in the future. No complaints from any others around the table about their food or margaritas. In fact, a couple people volunteered that they were very happy with their meals! Honestly the service, the parking lot, the outdoor reservations, and the solid food is enough to have me come back here. Four stars instead of five because: - Two people in the party arrived first and even though we had a reservation, waitstaff tried to show them to a table too small for the entire party. - There was lipstick stain on one of our water glasses, and the person drinking from it wasn't wearing lipstick. - The music outdoors was a little bit too loud, but it may have been because we were seated close to the speakers. read more

We go to this place from time to time as we make our way home to Kingston. Their location is hard to beat, and usually service is quick enough to get you a to-go order in time to catch the ferry. There are a few things you should note though before you get your hopes up. First the guac is very bland. It pretty much tastes like avocado with a couple tomatoes. Second they may forget your sides, we've had this happen to us twice now. Finally if the ferry is off-loading and you don't have your food, you'll have to really push them to get things going. The staff has a pretty lackadaisical attitude and even after waiting 35mins for an order they said would be out in 20, they won't go check on your order or bring it to you with any sense of urgency. I'm sure we'll be back and hopefully things improve. I'll gladly up my rating when they deserve it. read more

Mexican Roasted Corn... we have all had it and it's really good, but when you get canned corn with sour cream WTF?! Mahi Mahi Tacos is what sounded good... I shouldn't have ordered them. They tasted old, very fishy, and a very very small amount of fish for two tacos and $24! I won't go there again and it sucks because they have such a great location! The services was great, fast (which some like) but great and tentative. I was very disappointed . We got it to go and literally at it 5 mins later. Food was below average, and small portions. Did not enjoy having to pay for chips and salsa when the salsa was bland. My friend got a burrito and said it tasted like hamburger helper. While the chips tasted like Taco Bell chips and the salsa had a taste like a marinara more than salsa. To spend over 100 dollars for 2 people having just 2 meals and 2 drinks is an absolute crime.
