We were hopeful that Kabob n Karahi would be good, but if you are a discerning consumer of Indian food, steer clear. Our boneless chicken curry was oily, bland and didn't have a hint of grill flavor. It also had small bits of chicken bone in it--not a nice surprise in the middle of taking a bite. The only thing that was good was the naan. It was fluffy and not greasy, as it often is at other restaurants. The samosas we got as appetizers were the only thing we had that was well seasoned, but it was dry. It is truly a hole in the wall, which only the locals know. They market a halal place, but it isn't like the halal guys food in nyc. They serve pretty authentic pakistan/india food. It gets pretty packed around dinner, so I would just be cautious of that. I always get the chicken karahi with a side of chickpeas. One of two kabob places that I would go to. Kabobs n Karahi down the road from my house and is super convenient to go to when I'm craving some lamb. It's a very simple ordering process: you go to the counter and order, grab a seat, they call your name and *boom* the meal is ready. My go to is lamb chops and it never disappoints! They need to read the reviews and correct their mistakes because next time they will in the court facing charges. Went here for the first time over the weekend. Went on Saturday night and it was a little crowded but we found seating right away. This is an order/pick-up at the counter place. I had the Combo #1 which had a Seekh and chicken Kabob, a side of chickpeas and salad. It was excellent and I can't wait to visit again. read more

Overhyped for the quality of food actually served. Lamb karahi should be avoided - the goat and chicken karahis are much better. The tandoori bread is a bit too tough . The plain rice served to us as a side was soggy and could have been cooked better. Also please avoid the Kulfi deserts. They are stored at extremely low temperatures to be tasteful even after 10 mins of opening the wrapper. Also they are not as sweet as kulfi is supposed to be. read more

The only thing that makes me want to knock this down to four stars is because their chickpeas are just a bit less grand than Ravi Kabob. Yeah, that's right...the only flaw I've found so far is that their chickpeas don't quite match the most perfect chickpeas on the planet ;) Seriously, everything we've had has been about as good as I've ever had. The chicken and lamb kabobs were fully of flavor, servings plentiful, and they were cooked to perfection. The tandoori bread might be the best I've had. The chicken karahi was sooooo good and the Wednesday kofta curry was excellent. Oh, and about those chickpeas...they're not at Ravi level, but they're the closest I've come across, which means they are also absolutely first-rate. Despite being a white dude who grew up in rural NC, Pakistani and Indian food are pretty much my favorite cuisines, and though I've never visited either country I've spent nearly two decades cooking dishes from those regions from a number of cookbooks while visiting as many local "hole in the wall" places like this that I can find. Maybe that still doesn't make me an expert, but for what it's worth, IMO Kabob N Karahi has absolutely nailed every dish I've tried. I'm actually glad it's about a twenty minute drive from me because that makes it just far enough that I don't eat there a couple of times a week. Never knew this place existed in Silver Spring but so happy I discovered it :) Went for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. Very casual/low key ambiance with a lot of tables inside. Ideal place for large groups :) It was both our first time so we just stood there staring at the menu for awhile. The guy at the register helped us out by recommending some of the popular dishes. Honestly, everything sounded/smelled delicious! Overall, all of the dishes we've ordered was flavorful and authentic. The portion size is huge so I would recommend sharing with your party. read more

Great place to go to if you're looking for pakistani/indian food. I usually go to this place once a month with family and it never disappoints. My favorites include their kabob, chicken tikka and chola. Their mango lassi might be one of the better mango lassies I've ever had. Usually their sevice is good too and food is served around 15 mins after you order so the wait isn't even that bad. Highly recommend this place if you want desi (brown) food. read more

BEST chickpeas in the area hands down. This is one of my favorite Pakistani restaurants in the area and again those chickpeas...hit different. Due to COVID, dining is not available, however, carryout is a great option. I called my order in 20-25 minutes before arrival. When I entered, they must have been changing shifts as one employee was placing his mask on . However, he did not assist me and continued to get himself together...thank you. Cashier was friendly and my order was ready.. While they were out of Samosas(slightly disappointed) the spicy kick on the lamb chops platter I ordered was amazing, along with an extra side of Dal for later. Everything is good here and seasoned so well. Not salty, just amazing herb and spice flavors that take you to the soul of the chef. If it weren't for the pandemic they would be packed, as I noticed several others getting carryout. I am looking forward to returning and experiencing the new dining area one they open up fully. I have been coming to this place since it opened up. The food is what always had me coming back, their karahi was probably one of the best I had but the quality has been deteriorating lately. The seating and ambiance of the restaurant was never great but the food made it tolerable, but now that the quality of the food is not even at its best, the seating and "hole in the wall" feel of this restaurant stands out and not in a good way. The staff at the restaurant always do their best to be hospitable and nice but I think the management or owners need to step in and re-evaluate the food. read more

I have a problem, but it's all because my prayers have been answered: Pakistani food in Silver Spring that is just as good as Ravi Kabob in Virginia. So why is this a problem? Because I am going to spend every penny of my salary eating there every night. Then I will also get fat because I will be licking the last little bit of food from the damn styrofoam container the food comes in. Life is hard sometimes, but you know, life also requires sacrifices. Somebody has to keep them in business, you know? This place opened in December last year and I had no idea--who goes that far up New Hampshire voluntarily and without a reason? And, yes, Tom Sietsema wrote a review of it today, and I could not get up there fast enough. As others have noted, the atmosphere is nothing to, um, note, but who cares? I didn't notice drink selection because I usually drink water when I go out. But it was clean and there was a fair amount of space; much bigger than Ravi Kabob, much brighter and more open. There were a lot of Pakistani people eating there, as well--they far outnumbered the obviously non-Pakistani people. Two meals:, one veg and one lamb kebob, plus one drink, came to under $16. I have leftovers since the mixed veg comes with two veg, as well as rice, salad, and naan. Today they had chickpeas (choley lahore?), which are possibly my new favorite food in the whole world, and spinach and potatoes. I mean, I can't even describe how happy I was when I put the chickpeas in my mouth and found it was just as good as Ravi Kabob. Now the bad: LOOOOOONG wait. All that had to be cooked-to-order in our order was the lamb kebobs and the naan, and we waited for over 30 minutes. There was one person in line in front of us. Such a hidden gem in the Cloverly, MD area! I've been coming here regularly with my family and we all love the food here- especially the kabob and goat karahi. The naan bread is super soft and pairs very well with the spicy karahi. Another must have is the chat samosa which makes for the perfect appetizer! The kabobs here a juicy, tender, and ooze a bunch of tastiness into your mouth...so good, so good! The chicken boti kabob (grilled boneless chicken marinated over night in their special house sauce-$8.99) is scrumptious! The chicken is super tender and has tons of flavor in it. The kabob comes with a generous amount of chicken (about 5 pieces), and it's accompanied with fresh naan, salad, side, and chutney. The naan is pretty good, I love the fact that it comes out fresh and pipping hot. The only thing I don't like about this naan, is the middle part. It's extra thin and crispy, so I just eat around the sides. The salad is okay, I usually don't touch this. For my side dish, I get their vegetables and rice (although it comes with one side item, they seem to always offer me two...so why not?!). The vegetables are pretty good, somewhat on the oily side though. The rice is well, rice. The chutney is real good...seems to be made of a mix of lemon, cilantro, and green peppers (don't quote me on that though). The kabobs are cooked to order, so it usually takes at least 10-15 minutes before your meal is up. Definitely worth the wait though! This place gets pretty crowded around lunch and dinner time, so expect a longer wait for your food. Their tons of tables too, as the restaurant is a decent size. Staff are pretty friendly and don't mind explaining the different kabob choices to you. They have seven different kabobs to choose from (chicken, ground beef, lamb) and a fried fish special. Have been here countless times and the food is absolutely delicious and kabobs are always cooked fresh(be prepared to wait(which is actually a great sign)). Only two things that keeps them away from that coveted five star. 1: cleanliness of the restaurant 2: service. This is the kicker. Lately I've had a hankering for kabobs and when the Tom Sietsma reviewed a place so close to my house I pounced on the opportunity. I have eaten this place non stop and it never quite gets old. Needless to say, its fantastic. Food: Go for the lamb chops and lamb kabobs. The greatest strength of this kabob place is the seasoning. The lamb chops are meaty and the texture hides hidden pockets of seasoning that explode in your mouth. The lamb kabob is the same way. In order to savor it better I recommend cutting the pieces into smaller ones, instead of eating it in one go and then dunking it with the accompanying sauce. The chicken and beef is okay, but the lamb is definitely the best. Atmosphere: Its clean. It is really really clean. Like I could drop my kabob, roll it around on the ground, wipe my mess with my naan bread and i would still eat it. Well lit, and there isn't any noisy music to intrude on your conversation. Seats plenty. Closing remarks: Kabob n Karahi is great for people who never get to finish their summer reading. Because the wait is stinkin long. Last time I brought John Updike's "Rabbit Run" and got through the first couple chapters. At the rate I keep coming back I'll have the book finished in no time. But seriously, call ahead and save yourself the trouble of waiting. When it gets busy you'll thank me.
