I'm going to prefix this review that if you're the kind of person who thinks Moby Dick has great, authentic food... you shouldn't come here. Kabob n Karahi uses authentic spices, and what you get is like the difference between chef boyardee and actually going to Italy. This is a very local chain, and the restaurant honestly feels a bit like a high school cafeteria. It's probably not the place to go for a date night. :) This is why I have gotten take out 47191 times and eaten there once. The food is amazing, and going in does have the benefit that they'll often have specials not in the menu. I'm currently polishing off a lamb kabob, and I actually found a black cardamom pod in it. That's such a different flavour than you'll get most places (and despite the name, it's not cardomom). It's rich in sumac and just YUM. This is my absolute favorite kabob spot in the area. I regularly get takeout from here and it is supremely consistent and delicious. I recommend any of the kabob combos and recommend getting the channa as one of the sides. The salad is...interesting, but the channa is incredible every freaking time. The kabobs also come with their tandoor bread, which is so fluffy and delicious, and especially fantastic with the green dipping sauce. Just writing this makes me want to order it now. I generally get the tandoori or boti chicken kabobs and both are excellent, the boti being boneless so it is a little drier than the tandoori, but the seasoning is fantastic all around. read more

Ground beef was even more and super spicy. Chennai had no flavor nor was there any salt packets available. I did like the naan. Its been a decade since I was last here and they are as good as I remembered. I got the bone in chicken curry with rice, chickpeas, and tandoori bread. The whole meal was packed with flavor and I enjoyed it. I do wish the portion of the meat was slightly more and I really want something spicy but thats not really an option. The kheer (rice pudding) and gulab jamun (cake balls) were great! The kheer has a really good flavor and I always mix them together which makes a great combo. read more

I've never had a house salad that was filled so aggressively and heavily with raw onions. There are technically tomatoes, olives, and lettuce that is sprinkled amongst the mounds of raw onions - but the ratio is interesting. That said, I ended up with the bone-in chicken which is one of their most popular menu items. It was D-licious. It was tender, well cooked, and nicely seasoned. The chickpeas were nicely seasoned. The portions are sizeable. I crushed my meal, and picked all of the meat off the bones. This restaurant is basically on my way to a good friends place. I have a feeling we'll be stopping by there again some time soon. I might ask for no onions on my salad next time lol. While the place has changed a lot, and the portions seem a little smaller, you still get a lot of food for what you're paying. My go-to is the beef seekh kabob or the chicken seekh kabob which is ground meat formed into a log and cooked in a tandoor. The meat is nicely seasoned and a good amount of tender. I won't say it's my favorite but it's yummy and you get two pieces. I think my favorite part about the meal is always the chickpeas that you get (you get chickpeas, rice, a naan, and salad with your kabobs). The chickpeas are greasy, flavorful, and melt in your mouth. It's honestly the best part. I like to dump the green sauce they give you onto the chickpeas and rice and eat it all together. Overall very solid. We usually always take the food out so I can't speak on the dining in. The service is okay. They aren't ever happy to see you but it's whatever. Very good kabob place with great value. I got a kabob with Tika bone on chicken and seekha. The kebab comes rice and chickpeas and a salad. They also come tandoori bread. My friends got a special of a beef shank. It came with same sides The kabob was very good right balance of heat and seasoning. The seekha was nice and juicy and tender. Pairs perfectly with the bread that you get with the meal. The chicken comes out charred from the grill so you get an added flavor profile of that. You get 4 pieces of chicken a drum and 3 smaller pieces. Chicken was great it was juicy and tender. Hotter than the other pieces which I liked. Chickpeas and rice has sauce with it that is savory not spicy just great flavor. The beef shank was super tender it was served with gravy it was cooked in. Broke apart easily friends said was great. Came here for the first time for lunch on a weekend with a couple of friends. Hubby and I ordered their Karahi combo that came with 2 pieces of naan, some romaine lettuce, onions, and a couple pieces of lime with their cilantro chutney sauce. Ordered two bottles of water and balance was approximately a little under $40. What's hot - Quality. Pretty delicious. Everything was made shortly after we ordered, so our food was served hot. Their naan bread is warm and soft and is wonderful in pairing up with their dishes. Their curries are deliciously seasoned. Be prepared for their spice level not to match what you would like. My husband has a high tolerance for spicy foods and he ordered their spiciest level, which wasn't enough for him. - Menu. Something for everyone, including vegans. - Price. Pretty good value for money. For under $40 for a meal for 2, it was pretty good. - Location. Conveniently located in a plaza with other shops and restaurants. However, be prepared for traffic in this area. What's not - No soda/water fountain. They don't have a soda fountain, so you have to buy their drinks or bring your own. That also means once you've finished, you can't refill. I don't like that, because I brought my own water bottle and once we were finished, we couldn't fill up more water. Not cool, because it unnecessarily adds to the cost and is inconvenient. - Cleanliness. Our booth table was dirty when we arrived. I was the one who initially grabbed a few napkins to wipe off our table. The entire time we were there, which was probably over one hour, I saw their staff come out once to clean their tables. I'm not sure what their staffing situation is like, but they don't appear to be adequately staffed to handle a restaurant full of customers. - Parking. This plaza appears busy, so be mindful when parking in their parking lot. Many people don't appear to pay attention to other drivers and their surroundings. If getting takeaway one waits for their name/order to be called out near the register. If dining in a staff member brings the food on a tray to your table. Next to the register is a rotating buffet of curries and salads. The rest of the menu items are cooked upon ordering. We opted for the vegetarian items in the buffet scooped up by a person behind the counter. He also helped us identify them. I had the spicy chickpeas along with a serving of potatoes, cauliflower and peas. I opted for rice. My companion had the same vegetable options sans rice (with double portion of veggie curry instead). Both dinners came with raw onion salad, yogurt dressing and fresh tandoor oven bread. Everything was delicious. The basmati rice was fluffy. The bread was warm, with chewiness and some crisp. The chickpeas were spicy but not overwhelming. VERY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE BY IBRAHIM KHAN. We had a very disappointing experience at Kabob and Karahi. Three weeks prior, we made a reservation for a family-style Iftar for 23 people. Both my father and I personally spoke with Ibrahim Khan to confirm the booking. Initially, he suggested we choose Sunday because they were already booked on our preferred date. We later adjusted our date accordingly and confirmed everything. On the day of Iftar, thank goodness my father called in the morning to place the food order so it would be ready on time. To our shock, the employee who answered told us there was no reservation under our name and said we would have to wait until Ibrahim Khan arrived at 1 PM. We were extremely stressed and worried about how we were going to accommodate 23 guests with only hours left before Iftar. When Ibrahim Khan finally arrived and we spoke with him, he acted as though he did not remember us. My father reminded him of our multiple conversations, and instead of taking responsibility, he tried to shift the blame. My father had already confirmed everything, and Ibrahim had clearly said the reservation was confirmed. It honestly felt like they accepted a larger Iftar booking and canceled ours without informing us. What's most disappointing is that we have been regular customers for years. We frequently order takeout and have even hosted Iftar gatherings there in the past. To be treated this way -- especially during the month of Ramadan -- is extremely upsetting. My advice: be very cautious when making reservations here. Unfortunately, the management is poorly organized and unreliable. Very disappointed. read more

Oh man--the food here is on point! So good and so spicy! Especially the boneless chicken karahi. I definitely recommend this dish with their fresh baked pita bread for dipping into the "gravy" and it's good for two. We also ordered the grilled chicken kabobs, the seehk beef kabobs, and the gulab juman for dessert. The grilled dishes include a small size salad, chick peas and rice. Large portions and very delicious. The food is made fresh and made to order so when we ordered for carry out, it took about 25 minutes but it was worth the wait. There's lot of seating since they expanded their restaurant but it looked like it was sectioned off. All I can say is wow! And we drive all the way from Frederick to get the best kabobs in the DMV. During COVID, they are doing limited capacity seating and tables are six feet apart. There is hand sanitizer provided at the front entrance. I've dined in and carried out at Kabob N Karahi and they consistently do an excellent job with both their food and service. They have regular coupons in the mail and daily specials on their menu. I personally really love their lamb, the chickpeas, the side salad and the naan! The green colored yogurt is so refreshing as well, especially after eating spicy foods. Seriously a wonderful addition to the Colesville community and a great small business establishment. This right here is that "don't judge a book by its cover" thing they be talking about. When we initially pulled up it wasn't what we were expecting. The pictures we saw online looked like a nice dine in spot, but this spot looked more carryout-ish. Then we realized that there are 2 sides, and for whatever reason they look totally different. I've been here twice now and this place is the absolute truth. The food is cooked to perfection, and everything is tender and bursting with flavor. It was my first time having karahi and so I don't have a benchmark to review the food, but the taste was beyond my expectation. The sauce was meaty with deep flavor of spice and a hint of sweet and sour tomato. It was rich, complex, and satisfying and went extremely well with their naan. Their naan was unlike any other ones I've had. Different than the typical flat and somewhat crunchy ones from Indian or Himalayan restaurants. The ones here were fresh and warm, a little more doughy and breadier. It was good and was efficient in soaking up the sauce as I scraped the pot of sauce with it. The lamb kabob was also surprising to me. The meat was tender and seasoned well. It was a solid lamb kabob. What unexpectedly amazed me was the chickpea that came with the lamb. This comforting yet flavorful chickpea side that soothed off the spice and rich karahi and cleanses your palate was a pleasant addition to the meal.
