I've been going to Kabob n Karahi since they opened up years ago. Prior to that, we'd make the trek out to VA to get some Karahi from Ravi Kabob and it was awesome to see an authentic Pakistani restaurant open up in Silver Spring. The chicken Karahi is always brought to the table fresh off the stove, still sizzling in the Karahi used to cook the dish. The meat stays juicy and we like to get our Karahi spicy. Lamb chops are also great. The chana is delicious as a side, and on the weekends remember to get nihari or haleem. One negative thing I will say is that the chicken kabob is sometimes on the dry side. I come here for Karahi anyways so chicken kabob isn't my go-too when eating at a Karahi restaurant. The restaurant used to get pretty congested on weekend evenings, so I'm glad they expanded the indoor seating area as of the last time I visited. read more

After my last visit here, I wasn't so excited to give them another try. However, their weekend Nihari special had me thinking twice... We ordered the nihari and chicken biryani with sides of chickpeas. We also ordered 2 chat samosas and a tandoori bread. The nihari is just as described - flavorful, super tender pieces of beef in a rich sauce. The chicken biryani is what stopped me from rating this visit 5 stars. For me, the biryani had an overpowering amount of cinnamon that really made me dislike the whole dish. The green sauce served on the side does help mask the cinnamon. The chat samosa was good but was lacking the white sauce that is usually found in the dish from many other restaurants. The tandoori bread was fluffy and fresh. I enjoyed my visit this time around, but I still don't think I'd ever crave coming to this restaurant. I feel that other restaurants in the area do the dishes better. Another reason why I up'd my stars in this review is because the wait was maybe 5-7 minutes after we ordered our food. Racist treatment! We had a large party of about 15. We asked about seating and were told we could sit wherever we wanted. We pushed our own tables together to seat us all together. We ate and people started to leave the table. We were down to the last 5 or 6 people. During our meal, a large Desi family came in and was seated in a similar configuration on the opposite wall, close to the window. As the sun shifted, I guess they were dissatisfied with how the sun was hitting. The staff hovered over our table for over 45 minutes, clearing dishes and pushing in chairs, and just standing there staring at us. At first we thought he was just bussing the table, but he would keep coming and just stare at us or move a chair unnecessarily. Then the real motive came. The family, which appeared to be of similar ethnic origin to him, wanted our table. Instead of asking us about switching tables, they got him to ask us to move. We were about to leave anyway so we complied, but it felt like they were given preferential treatment and we were given inferior treatment based on race and ethnicity. There was no sign about a time limit to sit in the restaurant in case you're wondering. There was also hardly anyone there before us. We spent at least $300 collectively there. Oh yes, the food was also not great. The naan was delicious, but everything else was under-seasoned. The biryani was full of bones and knuckles. The samosas were not flavorful. The chickpeas were just average. The lassi tasted old. We sought this place out specifically because some of our friends only eat halal. All I can say is, the food and the treatment were totally disappointing. I would give a zero if I could. I expect more from halal businesses. read more

This is my spot for bomb Indian food. It's one of those low key joints that has really good food. The chat samosa. Fire and flames. I ALWAYS get one. The lamb karahi is so flavorful and the meat is cooked perfectly (it comes in a portion size for 2 ppl fyi). If I remember correctly, there's a lil bit of heat on it so if you don't like spicy... this ain't your ministry. This time I tried the lamb kabobs. It came with chunks of lamb, a small salad, rice and chick peas and a piece of naan. The lamb was soooo good! The chick peas had great flavor and the naan is pretty big lol. I've been wanting to try this spot for so long! I've heard amazing reviews about their food from co-workers. One co-worker drives from VA just to order their food. Service was not that bad, it could be better; however, I will take it just so I can come and eat here over and over again! The 5 was really because of the amazingly, delicious food they have. Let's start with the Lamb Chop, this was take out Lamb Chop, Lamb chops that was eaten hours after it was ordered. The chops were still tender, no need for a fork and a knife to eat these bad boys! The texture wasn't tough, it was moist and still juicy! It didn't need much seasoning, they let the natural, delicious flavor of the lamb come through without that lamby taste (ya feel me? Makes sense right? ). I love the slight bitterness of the char on the chops. The Chicken Karahi, was just packed with so much flavors! Meat was fall off the bone, eating the bone amazingly good! You have to eat this with either rice or the naan bread or do what I always do, with both . Dip that naan in its amazing stew of chicken, tomatoes, herbs and spices, but most of all that coat of chicken fat and juice from the stewed tomatoes just adds depth of flavor . This dish was cooked for hours you can tell, it's similar to chicken stew but 1 million x better. They know their flavors very well and they do it right Every. Single. Time. I will percent recommend this dish, you won't regret it. You'll get addicted and you may thank me or hate me, let me know. Lastly and by far my most favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka with bone! Scrumptious little things, I can literally eat these delicious goodness everyday and not get sick of it. I've tried and eaten different and many versions of Chicken Tikka and by far the Chicken Tikka with bone at Kabob-N-Karahi is the best one I've tried thus far. The chicken is grilled to perfection, meticulously seasoned and the whole experience eating this dish was unforgettable, brings tears to my eyes. We were passing by the area and decided to try this place based on all the great reviews. We ordered the lamb Karahi for 2, one order of lamb chops, special of the day meatball curry, kabob mix and lamb brain Karahi for 2. We ordered too much food expecting to take some home for the kids but the flavor of everything was so Delicious, there was no left over. I got everything mild because I can not handle too much spice and it was little spicy but that was the right amount for me. The kabobs I would say we're between 4-5 stars but the Karahis both were definitely 5 star. The special of the day was also very tasty and authentic. Pakistani food is very spicy for me but I make the effort with this place because it's THAT good. The naan is the best I have ever had and they include it with the meals. Pakistani food is freaking amazing. Unfortunately, there aren't many authentic options. Enter Kabob N Karahi, possibly the best Pakistani restaurant in America. The naan is outstanding. Slight crisp on the exterior, near doughy on the inside, but cooked throughout. It somehow melts in your mouth and is the perfect vessel for soaking up their delicious curries. We've only tried the goat karahi and the boneless chicken karahi. Each karahi is slightly different, but equally delicious! The masala is so intense, and the ginger flavor is overwhelmingly delicious. The fresh chiles bring the whole dish together. We've ordered "spicy" both times, and while it had a nice kick, it was the perfect level, and accurate. For the vegetarian sides, the daal is crazy savory with a big cinnamon kick (this is a good thing, don't worry), and has a nice layer of ghee on top, without tasting too oily somehow. The chickpeas have a flavor that I cannot describe, but I want more of. Best daal and best chickpeas you will taste in Montgomery County. The naan, vegetarian curries and karahis were all the best I've ever had. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu - not to mention how reasonable the prices are. I think lamb brain karahi is next on the menu, but for now I will only have to experience KK in my dreams. read more

I've been coming here since my college days, and for kabobs, it really doesn't get better than this. My go-to is the boti (chicken breast) or the bone-in (dark meat) tikka kabobs. It comes with a small salad and a naan. You are also able to choose a side (either chickpeas or spinach usually). The kabobs themselves are always tender, perfectly marinated in yogurt and spices, and plentiful for the price. The naan that they have is also perfect. It is puffy and light with a crusty bottom. It is the perfect combination of chewy and soft. It pairs perfectly with the yogurt sauce and kabobs. I was recommended this place by by Indian dental hygienist and have recommended it to many more people. It is a little out of the way for me, but great food is great food-- and this is great food. Beware, the service is a little slow, usually it will take upwards of 20 minutes for food. No matter what, it is worth the wait. I also got a side of chicken curry to go. The biryani was delicious and flavorful, but beware, it definitely has a kick. Buy a drink because the spice level grows as you keep eating the meal! The chicken boti was tender and juicy too, but took 20 mins to make. I felt like the sides were a little underwhelming. I got the chickpeas and they were truly lacking some salt. I did appreciate the green sauce that came with the meal to add a bit more flavor. I smothered everything in green sauce. Lastly the chicken curry had a good flavor and a lot of spice, but again, could have used more salt to bring out the curry flavor. Five Stars. I was first taken to this place by a friend who swore to me that it was the best Indian/Pakistani spot in the area. I was then taken to this place a second time by another friend who stood by that same statement. Now I want to pass the message along because this really is a Gem of a restaurant. The Chicken Tikka is a must have. It's vibrant red color is so appetizing, and it's charred to perfection. When you bite into the chicken you're thinking... tender, juicy, packed full of flavor with the most incredible marinade. Served alongside rice, chick peas and chutney. Truly a nutritious and delicious meal. Let's not forget about that crispy Naan that just brings every part of this meal together. The Naan portion they give you is plentiful, and it's always a joy ripping it apart and dipping it in the various sauces that your meal has to offer. Any of the Karahi dishes are perfect for dipping the Naan bread in. This time I ordered the goat Karahi and it was just splendid. There were so many negatives I don't know where to start! The customer service for the personnel behind the counter was very rude. We arrived a little after 5 pm. When we got to the counter, they were out of half of the menu items. They asked us if we would like spicy, regular, or mild. I ordered spicy. There was no spice to the chicken karahi at all. When we order spicy, I usually have to drink lots of water because I cannot take spice. But my family loves spice, so we always order spicy. I could not even taste the spice that is how bland the food was. Not only that, the dish had no salt whatsoever. The white rice (we had to order this because they were out of biryani) was undercooked. The naan were as hard as a rock. For the salad, we got a few pieces of lettuce with a whole sliced onion. My family left there very hungry. And lastly, they ran out of chai and did not have any time frame of when they would be making any more. The time mismanagement was so obvious.
