My husband picked up a meal at Kabob Hut when we were at University Shops Plaza. He originally wanted some Korean Fried Chicken, and there were several different eateries in the plaza that sold it, but they were all really busy and the wait would have been too long. He was getting hangry, and there was no wait at Kabob Hut, lol. He got some 2 kabob meal for $17. It was 2 ground meat kabobs, rice, a grilled tomato and some fries. He enjoyed it. I had some and I thought it was just ok. I really liked the fries. They were battered and really crispy. The meat was ok, but I didn't think it was anything to write home about. The rice was just plain rice with a bit of saffron (?) It was quick and made my husband less hangry, so I'm happy, but as for the taste, and taking into consideration the price, no wow factor for me. Came here at the recommendation of my son and his fellow graduate students at the University of Waterloo, some of whom are from the Middle East and know the real deal. I love Iranian food. A lamb kabob is one of my favorite foods on the planet. However, the cashier had no idea what a lamb kabob was ... the menu was only beef and chicken. Still, though, come on, really? Anyway, the food portions are large, prices reasonable, the meat and rice cooked perfectly. Plenty of seating. Great lunch place. My son said he goes there a lot. I will be back. read more

We stopped at Waterloo and found this little shop. I like the set up and environment. The place was deserted but too many online orders. We order kubdeh and kabob wrap. Both were served very quickly and nicely. Food was delicious, I like the well done charred tomatoes with rice and kubedah , wrap was also well seasoned. He is the only guy but managing the place well by himself. I recommend this place. read more

Consistency is an issue. I came here two times, both ordering the koobideh kabob. The first time I was already not too impressed with the tasteless and overly dry rice and meat. However, I thought I should give it a try again since it was close by to campus. This time... They served me burnt tomato (see photo) but slightly better meat. A plus of Kabob Hut is their open, bright and clean eating area. It's a pretty good/nice sit down restaurant with your friends. All in all, would I return? Probably not. read more

Came by here for dinner and ordered a falafel wrap which comes with a side of fries. The wrap consisted of simple ingredients - tomatoes, lettuce, and spicy sauce. It wasn't too spicy so I was still able to enjoy the flavour. Not the best falafel wrap I've had as the falafel was a bit dry. The fries were very crispy though! I had plenty of leftovers as well. All in all, Kabob Hut has decent food, huge portions, and friendly service. read more

Fresh grilled chicken kabobs here are great, consistent. The chicken wrap (spicy) is my go to choice here.

This place is okay... most of the time. Waiting for your food takes longer than it should and the beef kabob was not fully cooked while the chicken was basically rubber. Visited this place with my dad one night because Aunty's Kitchen was closed. I ordered the chicken Biryani and I could tell that I was eating reheated food which had been in the fridge for over a week or longer. Even the lettuce leaves were yellowing and dull. Fearing for my health, I did not finish my Biryani. This place is all set for another management change or complete shutdown because the current management just does not understand how to provide value to their customers. read more

Nothing too special but in terms of plaza food, is definitely one the better places. I ordered the koobideh skewers, and despite other reviewers I have never received them dry. Always *wait for it*... moist. The portion of rice is huge and it's rice for heaven's sake... Not sure why people complain that it isn't flavoured (it's rice man get over yourself it's not suppose to be filled with spices). The one comment about the burnt tomato... They literally ask if you want a grilled tomato. You can't grill a tomato without charring it like that, thus complaining about it being burnt is invalid. The fact that they even take the time to serve this is amazing. Service is always good, with friendly staff who love to help you decide what to pick and give you little tips on how to eat it "more authentically". They could be totally bsing me but hey, they're nice and it's plaza food so I can't complain. Price is about $12 dollars for the koobideh plate (ask for half rice half salad since the rice portion is huge regardless) and if you want a grilled tomato ask for that too! The food will take about 5-8 minutes to cook just for your information. Would recommend it if you're trying to get lunch and restricting your choices to the plaza. read more

The food was filling, but FAR from being tasty. The rice was white and dry, and the chicken tasted like it was simply boiled and sprinkled with salt. I could have cooked something like this at home, totally not worth the money spent here. I would suggest going with someone who knows what's good there and what isn't. Pretty yummy food, nice for casually hanging out and eating good Mediterranean food. Conveniently next to campus. If I had known about this place sooner, I probably would've had lunch there often. read more

The food is flavourful, however quite expensive. Serving size is average. The worst part about this restaurant is that they charge extra for watcard. On top of the 1$ charge for every transaction, their charge, + their expensive pricing, this makes kabob hut a pretty expensive restaurant. read more

It seemed like a nice place. Food is absolute garbage and way too expensive. Complete ripoff, on their menu it says just a chicken skewer is 4.58 which is expensive but I ordered anyway. When I paid, the bill charged me 7$ plus tax. The cashier said 4.58 was for only a 3 small piece skewer but the 7$ one is for 7 big pieces. I swear the pieces are each smaller than a slightly large gumball. THEY CHARGE 1$ PER TINY PIECE OF CHICKEN THAT TASTES LIKE GARBAGE TOO. No spice used whatsoever, basically tastes like pepper on unseasoned chicken. Their beef skewer was terrible too. Their rice is absolutely plain. Avoid this place at all costs.
