I went to Burlington for a week for leisure. We were walking around and looking for a restaurant for dinner. We passed by this cute restaurant. The outside of the restaurant was quaint. We peeked inside. It was busy and with quite a few Persians. We decided to try it. I am so glad that we tried it. Everything that we ordered was outstanding. We got the Rayhoon trio sampler, Addas Palo, and lamb shank. The trio sampler was basically 3 different dippings and came with a basket of bread. The owner was very nice. While we were enjoying the food, he walked up and greeted. He explained how we could use the trio sampler to enjoy the entrees which really made it even better. Following the suggestion, I put a little bit of lamb sauce over the rice and put a little bit of yogurt sauce over a small piece of lamb, then ate them all in one spoon.... It was amazing! read more

Met some friends for lunch on a weekday, this being the first time any of us visited Rayhoon. The restaurant was very quiet, just us and two or three other tables although they have room for many more and probably are very lively on the weekend. We were seated immediately and had drinks within a couple minutes. Cardamom tea was delicious and rose water hot chocolate was also a hit. I can say that the service is wonderful, friendly, and attentive and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with pleasant Middle Eastern music. The food was good - fresh, crisp veggies, warm flatbreads, tasty dips, and tender well-seasoned meats. My only complaint is the cost - for two people with non-alcoholic drinks, our bill++ was close to $100. For this price I expect the food to be outstanding, which it was not. I would recommend eating here if you would like an introduction to Middle Eastern / Lebanese / Iranian cuisine or a fancy lunch in a chic downtown location. read more

Persian fare in the Heart of Village Square Rayhoon derives its name from the Persian word for Basil, an important herb in Persian Cuisine. Follow any of the winding cobblestone pathways of Burlington's Village Square and you will find your way to Rayhoon Persian Eatery nestled at the centre. When you enter the restaurant, you hear traditional music that's playing and you see some Persian decorations. The chef is obviously Persian, but I was a bit disappointed to see none if the other staff were Persian. We ordere Zeytoon Parvardeh and Borani with Barbari Bread for appetizer. Zeytoon Parvardeh was delicious and of high quality. We enjoyed every bite of the hot Barbari bread. Kabobs were cooked well and great combination of spices were used. We were passing through Burlington and was looking for a place to eat and came across a Persian place called Rayhoon. It a nice cozy place, hidden kind of, it's not on the main road. There is roadside paid parking. We went in and the staff is welcoming, they knew the Persian dishes well which surprised us as they were not Persian speaking. The owner comes and introduces himself which is nice, we ordered chicken kabob and beef kabob called koubideh. It was good but the chicken was not juicy and very thinly cubed. The flavor was missing which we usually get from Persian cooking, (like restaurants on Yonge Street) . The yogurt with garlic was tasty, kashk Badenjen (eggplant ) dish was good. This place is the first place I've ever tried Persian food and I'm glad my Persian friends brought my here! The atmosphere of the restaurant was very family oriented, and the servers were super sweet. We were brought up to the 2nd floor seating which was super cute and there were lots of strings lights up there. As it was my first time trying Persian food we went all out: with drinks I tried Doogh which was very different from what I usually drink. If you like yogurt drinks then this is the drink for you! Next we had Rayhoon Trio Sampler as an appetizer to share and I found all three of the drips to be super delicious: Maust-o-Khiar, Kashkeh Bademjoon and Zeytoon Parvardeh All three dips was very unique and delicious. Lovely place to eat. I had not tried much Persian food before so this was a new experience. The waitresses were so kind and enthusiastic in explaining the menu options. The kabob plate was enough for two people with a side salad to share. I loved the rice and the additional tomato to mix in. It was my first time visiting Burlington and my friends and I were looking for a dinner place. We searched on Yelp and saw that this place has good reviews. We didn't have to wait long to get a table on the patio. The waitress was friendly, nice, and taught us how to eat out food the traditional way - which is cutting the roasted tomato into pieces and mixing it with the rice and butter, and eat it with the fork (not the spoon). However, when we were done with our food and wanted to pay, the waitress was nowhere to be seen, and others did not look in our direction either. We waited for a good 10mins before my friend had to go inside and ask, and we waited for another 5-10mins to be able to finally pay for our food - it was 8.30pm and it wasn't that busy. My cousin and I ordered half of the Lamb Chenjeh Kabob as we were not very hungry. The rice along with butter, tomato and chunks of lamb were AMAZING!! We also ordered Faloodeh and Baklava as desserts. Baklava was not bad, Faloodeh was okay - it is served with lemon juice and a berry sauce. We tried out this patio as we have young kids and don't feel comfortable dining inside. The food was delicious and arrived hot and fresh. The atmosphere was quite nice as well. We substituted the saffron rice for the dill rice and for our son we substituted the saffron rice for fries. The tri dip sampler was also good! We paid extra for the bread but I don't think we will do that next time as the complimentary pita was pretty good too. Portions were quite decent. read more

Really enjoyed this place! Stopped in with mamma bear while visiting Burlington. We sat outside on a lovely patio and enjoyed the great outdoors with some delicious food. The dip trio starter with a side of house made barberi (?) bread was so yummy! We opted for the basil hummus, spinach yogurt dip, and the walnut pomegranate olives, all delish. Mom chose the lamb main which came with saffron rice and a grilled tomato - super tasty. I chose the veggie stew (I can't remember the name) with a side of saffron rice, it was so so good. Not only is the ambience and the food incredible, but you'll always find it very welcoming. Wonderful place! The decor and building are very inviting. Just be aware that this place is tucked back a little bit off the street, it is in a courtyard. The sign isn't huge, so just park for the block it is on and take a walk and you will find it. We had barbari bread and zeytoon parvardeh for our appetizer. Really good combo, very enjoyable. The bread was puffy and warm. The zeytoon is sliced green olives dressed with pomegranate, walnut, lemon and herbs. For entrees I had a hard time deciding as many things sounded wonderful, but I ended up going with the ghalieh maui. Wow! This was a great dish. The aroma of the fresh herbs and garlic in this dish when it came to my table was out of this world. The tilapia in it was so tender. Wonderful. Served with saffron infused rice. My Mom had a little trouble deciding what to have as she doesn't have a ton of experience with middle eastern cooking. She asked for a sample of one of the dishes, fesenjoon. It was too sweet for her to eat as a whole meal, but it was delicious! It was very nice of the staff to allow a sample. She ended up choosing the chicken kabob that came with saffron infused rice that you mix butter and roasted tomatoes in. This was wonderful as well. The chicken was perfectly cooked, very tender. So very glad that I found the reviews for this place on yelp and that we gave it a try. Much better eating experience that the Ikea cafeteria! lol We will be back for sure on our next Ikea or concert trip to Burlington. Definitely good food, but a bit expensive and underspiced compared to what one gets in Toronto. My aash (noodle soup) was a rich green color but I couldn't quite so clearly taste the herbs that were presumably in there, and my dining companion's lentils were a bit too sweetly tomato-y. Prices are also quite high, but you're paying for location and atmosphere. I'd go again if in the area but you can do better in Toronto, I think. read more

Come to Rayhoon for something different. I've only had Persian food once before, so not an expert on taste. But everything I tried at Rayhoon I enjoyed. We came for Friday evening buffet-great way to sample many dishes including good selection of kebabs. I ate too much, the food was just so good. I love the sweet and nutty flavours in Persian food. On Friday nights there is the added fun of a belly dance show! Two dancers came out to get the crowd going. It was fun The price is a little high for buffet, $40 or so. But I'm guessing a higher price tag to include the cost of watching the belly dance show. I would come back here. It is family friendly and a nice change from the usual ethnic food choices of Chinese or Indian. It's a good place to come with family and enjoy a filling and delicious meal. read more

My friends have been asking me to try Rayhoon for months, and I finally went last weekend. The environment was really authentic, nice music in the background and a very friendly staff. we ordered badmenjon stew and stuffed baby eggplants for appetizers, which were delicious. However, that was the only good tasty thing there. I ordered Caesar salad, it wasn't anything special. I also had Soltani Kabob, the beef tenderloin strips was tasteless and ground beef brisket was extremely salty. The owner was really nice and had offered to replace it with something else, I got one skewer of chicken, but it was just too plain. I will probably give it one more shot and try different meals, and appetizers for sure. read more

We celebrated my birthday at Rayhoon Persian Eatery last night. I called ahead to make reservations for my family of 6. Location: I really enjoyed where the restaurant was located - super cute mini village in Burlington. The inside décor was also fabulous and they had a patio which could be used during nice weather. Service: Although the waitresses were lovely, I think they were under staffed. We came in for 8:00 PM and weren't provided water/drinks until 8:45PM. After ordering however, the food came quite quickly. Food: For our apps, we ordered hummus and pita - which was nothing special, standard hummus and pita. We also ordered the berry salad - this was incredible - the pomegranate dressing really stood out. For dinner, we all ordered different entrée's. I ordered the sultani kabob which unfortunately had very little taste - the seasoning was bland. Additionally, I found a big long grey hair in my food which was an extreme turn off and I didn't want to order a new plate like the waitress had suggested, at that point, I was over the food completely. Experience: Overall the location, décor and waitresses were nice however the food was bland and finding a hair in it was not appealing what so ever. I would still recommend going to the restaurant and giving it a shot as our experience may be different than yours. read more

This restaurant has really good ambiance, food, and service. Ambience: It's very authentically Persian. Upon walking in, you are instantly immersed in soft middle eastern instrumental music playing quietly in the background, plants, and various trinkets that pull you into a little oasis. The fact that it's secluded away from other restaurants makes you feel like you've stepped into another world. Food: there were a middle eastern couple there, and they said the food was quite authentic. We had the baby eggplants as an appetizer and they came with pita bread that was delicious. The eggplants looked baked or steamed and tasted a little salty but also sweet, thanks to a topping of garlic, finely grounded walnut, and pomegranate paste. We also had the lamb shank which came with aromatic mixed rice. I would recommend both dishes, especially the eggplants. Service: our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I recently had the opportunity to enjoy an early evening dinner at Rayhoon with a friend. Not having had sampled any Persian fare before, I came to it without any expectations. The decor is open and welcoming. Persian artwork and brass adornments accent the place without being overwhelming. The wait staff were attentive, informative and enthiusaistic to share their Persian culinary knowledge. When they did not know something, they went out of their way to ask. we learned at lot about saffron that evening. We ordered the Rayhoon Special which does not sound at all Persian or exotic, until one reads that it is One skewer of Barg & one skewer of Joojeh....now we are talking! Barg refers to the spice and prep method of kabobs that are Beef, Chicken,or Lamb. Joojeh are chiken kabobs. They were served in ample portions, along with charred tomato and saffron infused rice. As the meal was prepared, we were offered a complimentary house specialty appetizer. It was a small pita with onion, various herbs and feta cheese. It, at first blush did not seem as though it was going to be too appealing, but the simplicity coupled with the freshness brought it home. Meat on a skewer does not seem to have potential for much to talk about, but the meat was extremely tender. They key to the experience is to detect the under lying subtle flavours that permeate each morsel. This in not mystery meat drenched in Tzatziki sauce. This pleases the pallet and defies one to identify the herbs and spices that dance along the surface. We did not have room for desert on this inaugural visit and I expect to return in the near future to sample that as well. An ample dinner for two (shared plate) including two glasses of wine was under $50.00 before tip. An excellent intro to Persian cuisine. read more

A hidden little gem within my favorite part of Burlington. The outside patio makes for very pretty pictures. The restaurant its self was packed with a larger dinner party but the staff was very accomodating with outside seating. No complaints it was a nice evening and the patio/gazebo was so pretty. Rayhoon is a busy place on a Saturday night! It was definitely good that we had a reservation, because there were a number of people waiting for a table. They have a limited number of draught beers, so we started with a reasonably priced Stella. Because there were 6 of us, we got two of the dip trios, and were able to try every type. While the dips didn't wow me (I thought the yogurt dips were a bit too plain), the Persian-style bread you can purchase with it was warm and wonderful. I was there with a few regulars who normally have items from the grill, which I was able to try and were pretty good - the saffron rice is the real show stopper. I tried the chicken/walnut/pomegranate curry, Fesenjoon, which I thought was kind of blah. It's a weird flavour combination of sweet and sour, which was unique but not for me. We had kind of a complicated bill, we wanted it divided across the 6 and the apps divided as well, but it kind of took a ridiculous amount of time to get it. The service overall was ok, but with this delay plus the servers not coming around to hangs out our bottles of water, I thought the service left a bit to be desired. Apparently this place is great for authentic Persian food (I've never had it before), so it could be worth stopping by, but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more
