Lamb mandi from Monasaba. Though the lamb was soft and juicy the rice was not well cooked. I remember the amazing mandi we ate a few times at their first location on council ring road. It was a small place and their food was excellent. Definitely it is not comparable with their new location. Missing something here.

This was the first time I tried Yemeni food and I was pleasantly surprised! The mandi was the highlight for sure, with lamb that was falling off the bone and beautifully seasoned rice. Here's the full rundown: - Mandi: must order, the lamb slightly edges out the chicken but both are great - Qolaba: we tried the beef, it was good but needed more sauce - Sambousa: light and crispy, these were delicious and went well with the sahaweq sauce - Salad: this was a big miss. Basically a prepped salad with store bought italian dressing, the lettuce at the bottom of the box was brown and inedible. You can't serve this in a restaurant. But in the spirit of Ramadan we're showing compassion and not docking a star for it. Overall I would say this is a great spot for the mandi alone. It's definitely more of a takeout place with limited service and seating, but good nonetheless.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is absolutely stunning and cozy! The dining area is spacious and very clean. My first time trying mandi at a Yemeni restaurant. The lamb and chicken were really delicious. I personally prefer lamb because it's tender and flavorful. The rice is mixed with different spices and fried onions, almonds, and raisins on top. Everything is perfectly balanced, and the portion is quite generous. It's definitely enough for 2 people or even can provide an extra meal! The staff are incredibly kind and friendly, and they always wear a smile on their faces.

Monasabah is a brand-new restaurant brought to you by the ownership and management team of Almonasabah, which is an established (albeit smaller) smaller restaurant and catering business. Last year I tried a Lamb Mandi dish at Almonasabah last year, and damn near fell in love with it. When I heard about Monasabah, an authentic restaurant with an extensive menu, I absolutely had to try it. As a disclaimer, I have no experience with Yemeni food, so please take my review with a grain of salt. Monasabah checks off all the boxes. The experience (not unlike the food) is authentic, fresh, and memorable. The restaurant space feels traditional yet colorful. It is a narrow dining hall with a long-padded bench running along one side. Beautiful photographs of people in traditional Yemeni attire and artifacts of Yemeni culture adorn the walls. Traditional music is playing in the background. The process for ordering is simple. Go to the counter, pay for your meal, grab a number and find a seat. Someone will bring the food over to you as soon as its prepared. Ambience and service are nice and all, but the food is why I'll drive 40 minutes for another meal here. The Lamb Mandi is lamb roasted in a specialized clay oven (similar to a tandoor) served on a bed of flavorful rice and topped with nuts, sautéed onions and raisins. It can be described as a bit like pilaf but definitely has it own unique taste. The Mandi at Monasabah is the best! The lamb is so soft that its literally falling of the bone. The flavors of the dish are complex and layered, with a new experience hitting your palate seemingly every few seconds. You can eat it with a fork or go about it the traditional way and use your (right) hand. You are fine either way. The lamb qolaba is a dish I have never heard of until I came to Monasaba. Its cubed lamb with veggies and spices and fresh cilantro. It is served with a choice of rice or Yemeni bread. The freshly baked bread can be used as a utensil, by pinching off a piece, and grabbing some meat with it. If you have tried Ethiopian food before, you will understand what I am trying to say here. Nakie is a cold drink made with black raisins. They soak the raisins in the water for a while until it changes colour and takes on the flavor of the raisins. It's a tasty enough and certainly worth trying once if you never had it. But at $3.95 per glass, it doesn't blow me away. For dessert I had a Fatta Tamar with a glass of Shahi Adani. Fatta Tamar is a traditional desert which is kind of like date bread served with honey and thick cream. It was fresh and pretty to look at but a little bit too sweet for my palate. I also found it to be a bit dry. Shahi Adani is a sweetened lose leaf tea boiled with cardamom and milk. It's a little bit like a (properly prepared) chai masala. The Shai Adani is absolutely delicious and a great way to finish off a great meal. Of course I got excited and ordered a lot more than one can reasoably expect to eat in one seating. I'm afraid that this won't be the last time I do that.

Wonderful staff Very friendly and there was two employees wiping down everything, chairs, bottoms of tables, etc Always nice to see CARE/CLEANLINESS menu is simple and consists mostly of lamb and chicken. The rice w the diced nuts and raisins, excellent!

So happy we found this place when desperately looking for something to eat near us. We have never tried Yemeni food before and were curious. Quickly looked at the menu online to make sure I had vegetarian options and they did have a few! We went in at lunch and the place was pretty empty. We ordered an appetizer and a main as we weren't sure of the portion sizes. The appy was bread soaked in spicy minty yogurt and was pretty delicious. The main which was a chicken handi was probably the next dish we tried. The rice was so perfectly cooked and super flavourful. My husband finished the chicken in a few mins as it was so tender and juicy, just falling off the bones. We also tried the foul, refried spicy beans with fresh bread and it was very tasty! For dessert we tried a pistachio cream cake and it was just creamy and perfect. Would love to come back and try some more of the amazing items they have in their menu.

Whole chicken mandi

Walked into the restaurant one afternoon. When it was my turn ordered the whole chicken mandi. I expected to wait around 20 mins so when the guy said it'll be 5 mins I was happy as I had people waiting in the car. 10 mins after walking in I walked out with my order. We ate the food shortly after and let me just tell you it was delicious. The flavours were on point and the chicken was so tender it basically came apart with a spoon. No knives needed. Important thing to note here is that the chicken was super flavourful and tender and not at all dry. Can't wait to try other items later.

Tried Yemeni cuisine for the first time - did not disappoint. The lamb was very well cooked! The staff is nice and the place is nicely decorated in the inside. Would definitely recommend!

If you don't try Yamani cusine or don't know what is Mandi or Mutabag Yamani ? You have to try this restaurant out. I am their customer for catering for many years. They are absolutely my no.1 option. They have their catering kitchen on glen erin with council ring rd in Mississauga. This location they adopted dine-in cusine. More options and variations on the menu to try out. Today, my kids prefer take out. So, I had lamb and chicken Mandi. For desert Fatah Tamar. I am very happy to see them grow and scale up their business. Try it out !

Single Mandi Lamb: first time trying it. More than enough for 2 people. The meat is so soft that it just falls off the bones. The rice was extremely flavourful and the fried onions on top tasted amazing. Got almonds and raisons on the side. Their homemade hot-sauce was tangy and spicy. The restaurant was very clean and the service was amazing. While we were eating, the server came by and asked us if we needed anything else. Will definitely come back to try the Chicken Mandi and Qolabat.

Lamb and chicken mandi, beef qolaba.

Decided to try something new and ordered from Monasaba for takeout. We ordered lamb and chicken mandi, which came with half a chicken, 3 good sized pieces of lamb, a couple sides of the tomato sauce, fried onions, raisins, and almonds, and a VERY large serving of fluffy spiced rice. The chicken was a bit dry, but flavorful. The lamb melted in my mouth, and the rice was delicious with the almonds and raisins. We also got the beef qolaba, which was actually my favorite dish we ordered, it had tomatoes and onions, strong flavors of cumin, and a good kick. Paired with the flatbread, it was amazing. This was an amazing meal and I really recommend giving it a try. This meal would definitely warrant a repeat visit for sure.

We went here on a Thursday night. The place was very empty. The ambience was pleasant. We ordered the half chicken mandi and the lamb starter. In The chicken mandi the chicken was so tender it was falling off the bone. I really loved the chicken. The rice was plain just plain no taste to it no spice to it. It was just rice with turmeric in it a ton of it. The lamb starter was okay but a little dry. The bread was pretty good hot and fresh. Not good enough to make me come back.

The decor is super pretty, kind of funky-chic, and everything just feels clean, spacious, and well put together. Nice energy inside. When we went, it was busy but in a good way! It was lively, lots of people, but still comfortable and not overwhelming. I believe they also have live music some days which is so cool!! We ordered the platter with a mix of different skewers and it was so good. You get a variety of meats, all really well seasoned and cooked nicely. Everything tasted fresh and flavourful, and it came with rice and fries which made it a really filling meal. It's definitely the kind of dish that's perfect for sharing so you can try a bit of everything. The quality of the food really stood out, you can tell they put effort into how everything is prepared. The menu overall is pretty big too, with lots of Middle Eastern options and different things to try, which I liked. They also have lots of options on the menu, there's a good mix of traditional dishes and more modern takes, so it feels a bit more elevated. The dessert was also delicious!! Service was really good as well. The staff were friendly, attentive, and everything came out at a good pace. Even with the restaurant being busy, it didn't feel slow or disorganized at all. Overall, a great spot. It's a great place to go with a group or even for a nicer casual dinner. I'd definitely come back again.

I had two friends with me who have lived in middle east and know their sheesha, they said their sheeshas are really high quality (even though it was the cheapest around). We also ordered Fries, Mango shake and a brownie, wasn't really expecting it to be good but just something to eat. However, Fries were AMAZING (with best garlic sauce), Mango shake looked really fancy and tasted pretty good and brownie wasn't bad either. The service, while a little on the slow side, was caring. Some things that were a little off: Place was very busy on a saturday night so environment got a little cramped. Lack of women customers, there was no other table other than ours which had a female presence. However, there was a female server, and at no point did we feel uncomfortable or encountered any creepy activity. So while there weren't a lot of a women, i think it's still safe for women to go there.

You just have to walk through the doors and are instantly surrounded by the aroma of what a shisha spot typically smells like. This restaurant is very large. The crowd appeared to be much older, music was at a decent volume so we could actually engage in conversation. Food: anything that involved shawarma chicken was extremely dry. We had to dip our saj chicken sandwich into sauce to be able to eat It. Same for the platter, it was very bland. Chicken Fatteh is what brought this review to a 3. This was tasty. Shisha: decent shisha/flavors. Service: they were welcoming but the service was slow!

We looked at each other like wait a minute, checked the menu, and confirmed that water was 1.99 each. Flagged the waitress over and said politely, "Sorry, we meant that we wanted water in a cup." "Cup?" "Yes, so if you don't mind, is it okay if we return these water bottles?" "Siiiggggghhh." After this exchange she actually turned away from us and asked another man to come over who stared us down and asked what was wrong. I felt so uncomfortable at this point that I wanted to just run away. My boyfriend explained the situation and asked if we could please return the bottles due to a misunderstanding. He said ok and took them back but oh gosh, I felt like we were treated like criminals and my heart even started racing. Do note that the service did change after that. The rude female server switched to a male server who told us when the food came that if we didn't like anything, we can send it back. He checked on us a few times too to ask if all was good and even gave us bread to eat with our dishes. Despite his efforts, unfortunately, the atmosphere still felt heavy and tense and we couldn't fully enjoy ourselves. Other than the misfortunate service incident, there were other things that left me dissatisfied. The food was just okay and nothing special. We had the chicken shawarma platter and the hummus fatteh. Chicken shawarma tasted burnt and dry and the hummus fatteh was better but bland. We had to ask for hot sauce to make it more flavourful. There were also a lot of fruit flies I had to swat while eating so I was wary about the cleanliness of the place. Ketchup is served in ketchup patchets too which threw me off. Additionally, everyone else except our table was smoking shisha and it got really smoky. I felt that the restaurant may want to consider separating people that did shisha and people that didn't or include some kind of ventilation since it made the eating experience stuffy and less enjoyable. Overall, because of my dominantly uncomfortable and discontentful experience, I am giving this place one star and this star is mostly for the one server that did try to remedy it. Moral of the story: just don't order water lol. Note: it looks like this place might have closed now. My review takes place a few months back. Tip: they only do debit and cash.
