I finally made a foodie dream come true when I tasted this absolutely delicious Lamb Mandi dish thanks to Walima Restaurant, Middle Eastern-Kuwaiti Cuisine! For years I've wanted to try this slow roasted, middle eastern style lamb dish after I saw mouthwatering YouTube videos from the Middle East during the lockdown of the pandemic. And recently, thanks to amazing TikTok videos of Chef Nora showing close ups of their juicy lamb at her restaurant, I finally got to taste it and it was so delicious! The lamb meat melted off the bones! And the Daqoos tomato sauce took the lamb and rice to whole other level of bliss! It was worth the special trip to Mississauga. Big thanks to Mustapha for the excellent service and making our first time memorable. Highly recommend!!!!!!

They also have private rooms for party of up to 10 people and larger separate area for groups of 10+. The friendly staff make sure you enjoy your time here. They have a nice decoration for Ramadan and their Iftar buffet included great variety of Middle Eastern and Iraqi appetizers, entrée and desserts. They also have live performance by Saif Shaheen every night after Iftar. Iftar buffet is available till 9pm and regular menu resumes at 9pm.

They were also slow to refill the buffet (the kebab took at least 45 mins & the drinks got quite empty too) & they started packing up at 855pm, 5 mins before the official 9pm end. Nothing was labelled except coffee & tea so unless you know what you're eating you'll need to actively find out. Though it was $55, the only seafood items were fried fish (with quite soft flesh), grilled whole fish & odd deep fried shrimp (even less recognizable as shrimp than Japanese restaurant deep fried shrimp [ebi fry]). Most desserts were disappointing. Drinks included with the buffet were coffee, tea, tamarind water?, orange cordial & Vimto. There was live music, but half the tables were smoking shisha so the room got quite smoky after a while. It looks like they put sparklers on birthday cakes (or allow that anyway) which is fun.

The seasoning was nothing fancy but it was good lamb so the simplicity brought out the natural flavour of lamb. Unfortunately the bread got soggy because it was put underneath everything. The fries were dusted so they had a nice crunch. They were also slightly seasoned, giving them a hint of more complex flavour. The meat quzi (lamb shank) came with 2 types of flavoured rice. The shank itself was ok but there was no sauce for either the lamb or the rice so it was slightly dry overall. There was a lot of rice. The shank portion was OK. It was also served with baked beans - presumably the (Maraga) Yegi broth of the day. That was really weird since it was plain baked beans. Tanoor bread on the side was decent - it's just a long flatbread. Raisin juice (zabeeb) tasted like it sounds. The lentil soup was very plain. Otherwise it was ok. While waiting for my order I helped myself to the free hot tea (sweetened to taste), which was pretty good.

I'm visiting Toronto and wasn't sure what I wanted to eat for dinner so I headed to Yelp, read…read morereviews, and chose Palmyra. I'm so glad I did. This is a small, family owned establishment. The family was actually sitting down to dinner at the end of the day when I arrived approximately an hour before close. It was wonderful to see them eating together. I was immediately greeted by one of the employees. He was very friendly and allowed me to take my time. I wanted to try a falafel because I love to try several menu items. He accommodated that and allowed me to order a single falafel patty to try. I was stuck between choosing the Palmyra Platter or the Mixed Shawarma plate because, as I said, I like to try several items. I ended up choosing the mixed shawarma plate and ordered it as is. The falafel was crispy and I could taste the herbs mixed in. The sauce drizzled over the top was the perfect addition. I was so glad I tried it. I was so eager to taste it that I forgot to get a photo. I chose the mixed shawarma plate thinking it would be a more manageable serving for me to finish than the Palmyra platter. I was sorely mistaken. It was easily enough food for at least 2 people. This was well worth the price point. The salad was fresh and crispy with a good variety of vegetables in it. I really enjoyed the vinaigrette they used for it as well; just tangy enough. The chicken and beef were crispy on the outside and tender inside. They had good flavor and were not dry at all. The spicy potatoes were a tad spicy for me but I still ate them. The rice was ok in my opinion. I had enough left over to eat a second time. I will definitely visit here again on a subsequent trip so I can try more of their menu items. Overall this was a good experience for me.
