When I opened the butter chicken I only had two small pieces of chicken in the whole container. The naan also felt more like a pita. Order: - Fusion Shawarma Plate with Butter Naan The spiced fries are still a favourite, it stays crispy for a long time and a quick blast in the oven/air-fryer will revive it. The butter chicken is very saucy and get the garlic sauce because you'll need it with the ample fragrant biryani rice. The butter naan is nice and soft and if you reheat it, you can crisp it up into a buttered cracker. Any leftovers heat up well and is even more flavorful the next day. Months ago, I've dined at Aunty's to try their famous butter chicken which comes with salad and naan. The portions were humongous and I had plenty of leftovers (it was like two meals worth of food!) The butter chicken sauce was really flavourful, but quite heavy on the stomach. That's why for this particular visit, I decided to order something lighter and went for the tandoori wrap. The wrap consisted of tandoori chicken pieces covered in spicy mayo. It's a simple wrap with only two ingredients for the filling, but it was simply delicious! It tasted as good as it smelled too. The variety of spices made it very aromatic. There was just the right amount of spice which made it tasty. It was a bit of a wait for them to make the wrap, but we were offered a free drink for the wait - that's awesome customer service which I appreciate! It's uncommon to see that for a place in the plaza. Music is also quite loud here but their playlist is great. Overall, food is yummy, price is decent, and portions are huge. They do have discounts every now and then which are shown on the sign by the plaza entrance on University Ave so I'd keep an eye out for that. I'd come back again! read more

I was here on a Saturday because they had a 25% off before 2pm promotion going on, so I came in and ordered the Curry Fish with Fries, Rice, and Nann. They also had a Facebook check in promo to get free drink and it's unlimited refill! I ordered the meal to take home and the wait was about 15mins when they finally called my number. So it's not quite a fast food joint, but it's good that the food is prepared fresh to order. They wrapped the Nann separately in tin foil to preserve it's soft and crispiness. The box was pretty heavy and the food ended up lasting me for 4 meals! I almost always purchase the Fish Curry and I'm always pleasantly surprised by how good it tastes. It comes with either the choice of a salad or fries - I always go for the salad to balance out the meal. They changed the salad about a year ago and it's much tastier now. Would recommend trying! Aunty's offers a wide selection of dishes including biryani, butter chicken, fish curry, sharwarma plates wraps, and more. When i come here i usually get the butter chicken or the chicken on the rocks. If you get the butter chicken, it comes with rice, naan, and a choice of salad or fries. The chicken is usually pretty juicy and it blends so well with the flavors of the creamy, spicy butter chicken sauce. The chicken on the rocks is a great option as well if you love sauce. They fill up the box with a huge amount of rice, shawarma chicken, and they top it off with the richest garlic sauce. You will definitely get full when you eat here, sometimes i eat half for lunch and save the other half for dinner. Staff are pretty friendly as well. The prices are reasonable, but i would suggest to come on Saturday's as they have discount deals on select dishes during the later morning to late afternoon. Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in Waterloo. The quality of food is pretty good and your get your money's worth for sure! I usually order the Butter Chicken dinner plate. It comes with Rice, Fries or Salad, a good amount of butter chicken, and a naan. The box is completely filled that it can last for 2 meals usually. The naan is made fresh and tastes delicious, but it's definitely worth paying that little extra to get it buttered! The masala fries are decent but nothing special. only bonus is they have a little bit of a kick to it. I highly recommend asking them for a couple containers of spicy mayo(they're FREE) and it tastes amazing with fries or even mixed in the rice. Now that the store has been renovated there's a lot more seating area including benches which is nice. My friends at Westmount Signs recommended I come here to try out this new restaurant, opened only since December, and I was not disappointed. The food was very flavourful and spicy and I was pleasantly surprised by the large portion size for a $6.99 Chicken Karahi. They also have a special for any 6 dishes on their menu for $35 including tax and delivery. My only complaint is that their hours of operation are somewhat restrictive. I usually come here to get butter chicken but have tried the fusion and shawarma plates as well. The naan is really good especially with the butter chicken but they only give you 4 pieces of chicken. The meals are good and come in decent sizes. However, recently they don't give you big portions like they used to and increased their prices. Love the chicken shawarma plate at this place!! Their garlic sauce is to die for! Always ask for extra :) I've also tried the butter chicken poutine, the fish and chips, the naan shawarma, and the chilli chicken! They're all soso flavourful and really delicious. Also tried the tandoori chicken, which was really dry so I wasn't a big fan of it.. Recently the portion sizes have shrunk and the prices have gone up. They also don't add anymore dressing to their salad which is a big bummer.. The staff is really friendly and the overall restaurant atmosphere is nice. Aunty's Cafe used to be Aunty's kitchen down on king street. Aunty's Cafe is a great place to get some fairly authentic Pakistani food. The owners and employees are polite and help you figure out the menu. Many of the food items take a little while to be served because they are cooked to order. Other things that are ready made will be served immediately. The restaurant has 4 to 5 tables with space for 4 people each. The food itself is delicious. Been here a few times and their portions definitely fill me up. Personally, I find the the biryani pretty spicy, but you can ask them to mix it with some plain rice which helps. The naan and butter chicken are really good and full of flavour. Really top notch. The only thing I wish is that they make their portions a bit smaller (and a bit cheaper); all of their dinner plates are around $10.50, and I can never finish their biryani because there's so much rice. I went back a couple more time base on pricing and I generally like the food. The occasional time I get some strange thing in my food. (Picture shows a pit of some kind in my meal. I ordered the Fusion plate here. Service is friendly and generally doesn't take too long for meals. My personal favourites are the fusion plate, butter chicken, and MSD. Nonetheless, still my favourite thing in the plaza, still like the flavours, but maybe the quantity overrides the quality sometimes. I'd still recommend people to come out to eat here. read more

Hello again again Waterloo! So, as told by my partner I had to try this place. Here I am! I bought THE FUSION which had Biryani rice, tandoori shawarma, butter chicken sauce, and fries. Mixed it all together and it was tastefully good. Heavy though but satisfying! The spice is good. The fries were fried just right. The biryani rice was delicious with the butter chicken sauce. The chicken was, mwah! I should have asked for garlic sauce, I think the taste factor would go more up. Overall, loved it! I would go again. So the other day I went into this fancy looking food joint. It turned out to be an indian food place manned by Chinese and White people. Weird. I proceeded to order you know, that typical Indian curry with rice. Turned out I received plain rice and a sauce with what could have been confused with a morsel of the last Warsaw chicken in WW2, so small that even the holocaust victims missed it. Before realizing this, I was surprised by the tip prompt wherein I wished there was a "-" button. Pressured by the angry glares, I conceded in giving the typical Canadian 15% amounting to $13. This is equivalent to 13 days of manual labor in most third world countries. After a long walk out of the Chinese/Middle Eastern Plaza, I sat down to find a sloppy meal that did not even include cutlery or napkins. 10/10 would not go again. read more

When Aunty's first opened, it was a solid 4.5 for me, but it's been declining over the years. The prices have been increasing (they were steep to begin with), while some of the portion sizes have decreased (I remember feeling a lot fuller with the fusion plate). They accept vicinity, which is nice. I don't remember the exact point redemption, but it's not too favorable (60 points for a drink I believe, where $1 = 1 point). Could be incredibly wrong about the points redemption tho, but at least they accept the card. And if you haven't visited in a while, they send you a text through vicinity offering you a deal (usually free drink or 10-20% off a dinner, which is welcomed). Their spicy mayo with beef MSD wraps and fries are pretty bomb tho. Get the combo with the pakola (legit cream soda) and you've got a fine dinner son. As a brown guy, I've eaten my fair share of brown food, so I don't really get much else besides the MSD wraps anymore since it doesn't taste too authentic (and mom's cooking is best cooking). read more

When I was in first and second year (fourth year now), Aunty's used to be my go-to place for some really great Indian food. This was before their renovation. They used to have as much butter chicken in their butter chicken dinner as sides. Nowadays, you usually get 2-3 small pieces with a ton of filler rice/fries/salad. I've also ordered their Friday special, Niharl, and honestly have been upset at the quantity of that as well. It pretty much consisted of a medium sized chunk of meat floating in cup-sized container filled with sauce. Although the taste and flavour were very good, it simply wasn't enough food to fill me up. Hard to say since there are always new things opening in the plaza, but I think Aunty's is the best restaurant by a long shot. A meal here is a bit pricey, but you get about two full servings worth if you're willing to restrain yourself and take a doggie-bag. The service is always very slow - don't come if you're in a rush. Also, given that this place is a bit small inside and also very popular, it's hard to find a seat. Coming here is better in the summer since there are seats outside. This is a tiny little restaurant in the University Plaza. Awesome location to attract the student crowd. Maybe I shouldn't call this a restaurant because it is really very similar to fast food places where you serve yourself. They have a wall covered in QR codes, which gives it a pretty modern (more like geeky) appearance. The service is fast and efficient. It is not like a typical Pakistani/Indian mom and pop place. They have a TV to display the menu which is great since they show you the daily special (which changes everyday). There is not much space indoors as they could only fit in two tables for 2 and one table for 4 people. I had the large Biryani plate for $7+tax. It was pretty spicy...I didn't expect that. However the flavours were awesome and the quantity was generous, in fact "generous" wouldn't do justice to the huge plate that I got. The rice was not the aromatic basmati which is used in authentic Biryanis, it was a normal long grain rice... but you know what, at $7 I am not going to complain. The service at the counter was great too. My friend asked for a combo meal (which includes salad and drink for $3 extra) and for some reason they only charged him for a drink. When time came to get our food we noticed the error but the server was quite nice and gave him both the salad and the drink. They have a terrific business idea here of catering great tasting food with huge portions to the hungry student crowd. I hope they continue to deliver as they did! The chicken has been a bit dry (yes, even with the sauce and all) and just not as awesome. They've taken away the engineering student special (10% off) so that kind of is a bummer. Overall, the food is good but not great like it have been in the past. If you're starving and missed breakfast and lunch because of finals, definitely give Aunty's a shot. Now, the amount of food is a lot... a lot of rice, fries (or salad), and naan along with your selection which will be plenty to induce a food coma. This is me being picky but the naan has changed over the years and it has become less fluffy and more stiff which is the main reason for the -1. Otherwise, when you get your meal always ask for the spicy ketchup and spicy mayo, maybe even the garlic sauce as well. All these sauces help add a variety of flavors to your experience! I went into this place yesterday and ordered a karahi chicken. While the ambience was good and the portions enormous for the low price, I have to say that the food itself was quite terrible. The curry in the chicken was vinegary and the salad didn't seem fresh. However, I am Indian and I am picky about Indian food and you really can't expect too much at this price. The butter chicken was great and the naan had the perfect seasoning/butter/crispness ratio, and I liked the BBQ Zubi wrap.
