Tried this Indian restaurant while visiting the area while on business trip. All I can say is the food is delicious and made to perfection, I had experienced this place twice during my trip. First time I had ordered via Uber Eats, and was delighted by the taste of the Biriyani that I ordered, very well cooked and packaged. I visited the place two days later in person. The place has a full bar, and good seating arrangements, and has South Indian music playing. They had a menu with many South Indian speciality items. Service was friendly and super quick, I felt that the tables were a bit smaller than normal. We ordered a chicken lollipop, Goat Chukka Biriyani, Garlic Naan and Beef Chukka Masala curry. The biriyani, naan and lollipop are all made perfectly and tasted great. I don't recommend the beef chukka masala. Okay, so first off I have to say that I ordered a G&T and they were completely stumped. BUT a server named Yogi made me a lovely Cosmo instead and was super sweet about it. The food was great. Loved the papadums and quadrant of sauces that came with them. The mirch tandoori chicken was a dream; spicy and herbal, juicy, perfectly cooked. Looking for a fancier Indian establishment one night, we tried this restaurant in Belmont Village. It is upscale and well-decorated, and has a nice and cozy atmosphere. We started our meal with a lovely bottle of Argentinian Malbec and pakoras, and ordered some lamb biryani and naan with a couple of curries. This was ample food for the three of us in our party and left us some leftovers to take home as well! The food was rich and flavourful without being ridiculously heavy. I loved the wonderfully spicy Chicken Jalfrezi that we ordered but was not personally a fan of the Lamb Dhansak (though this is likely due to my aversion to mixing red meat and pineapple rather than any fault of the restaurant). Service was top-notch. They were incredibly friendly and attentive. When only two of us ordered dessert (some delicious gulab jamun) the waiter brought complimentary mango ice cream for the third of our party. One of the owners who was around came and chatted us up and gave us free after-dinner cocktails on the house. We were meeting family from abroad at Raja and made reservations. Initially, they had not set a table for us and tried to have us sit in a room that didn't offer views. But after some discussion they were able to set a table for us by the window side. That was the only hiccup we experienced, the rest of the experience was wonderful. They allowed us to order appetizers beforehand which really helped as it was a big party. Our server was Yogi who was extremely attentive and nice. She made sure we were taken care of and also tried to help with our kids. The food was delicious and on Yogi's recommendation ordered Paneer Jalfrezi which was mouth watering. this was the most disgusting Indian food I've ever tasted, I travelled India for 6 months and tasted real and great food, nothing ever like this. Here the onion bhaji's were so doughy inside and tasteless that l could't even find any onions, the outside was burnt and the dips were either spicy or sweet but tasteless, then my friend got his entre, a dosa. Then l got my dosa before any one elses food and before l had even one piece of my appetizer, then another friend got their appetizer, a samosa soggy inside a dip that was cold, then another friend got a main then another friend got their appetizer, then another entre. Pathetic Service I ever got. Yesterday, I was there with my friend for dinner, I made reservation for 8pm and I got table at 8:45pm then giving an order in 5 min, they served food at 10:00pm. When we ordered extra garlic naan, they told us that restaurant is closed, so we can't serve you food now, you have eat whatever you have on the table. This was happened to every table. My wife suggested we visit Raja as she had heard great things from several co-workers. We made reservations for Saturday at 7pm. When we arrived I was very impressed with the restaurant itself, it is very clean, and very nicely decorated. The staff greeted us promptly and service during the meal was top notch. I read a review that indicated the food was bland, but my experience was the polar opposite. We ordered vegetable Samosa as an appetizer, followed by Chicken Vindaloo for myself and Chicken Madras for the wife. Spicy, fresh and well seasoned. The dishes are brought out with a hot plate to keep the entrees warm. We also shared rice and the garlic naan, both of which did not disappoint. The chicken korma reminded us of a mild Thai Yellow Curry and the Rogan Josh a spaghetti sauce. I came here on the second day it opened without even realizing it. The staff were incredibly friendly, they asked us a couple of times if the food was good, and if we needed anything, which was great! The food was delicious! I love indian food, and this just pushed me more into loving it. The food had good heat and was in a nice portion that was filling, but not overly-filling. We came here with high hopes. First the waitress came back and informed us after our drinks order that they did not have a certain drink in stock. So we were forced to order another. She took our food order, and brought out my husbands main dish, and 5 minutes later, rushes back to our table saying this was not our order, only to place it onto another table, who in turn, informed her that they never ordered that dish. It was eventually brought back to us, minus the naan and rice. Once the dish had cooled down, they eventually brought out the rice and my husband tried to eat a cold plate of food that he was now struggling with. My food was no where to be seen. Finally a big bright yellow bowl of milky substance was brought to me, it was supposed to be lentil soup, not a lentil in sight and a watery concussion of milky turmeric muck with a few bits of green chilly floating around was served, it was a bowl full of bland distgustingess and nothingness. My main dish and flat bread was no where to be seen, like it just disappeared into thin air. We went to see the manager, of coarse, he was no where to be seen and the waitresses came back with a message from the kitchen that THEY are too busy for us. EXCUSE ME??? Too busy for us, really, are we not valued customers, are we lesser than the other customers that they are so focused on attending. Went for lunch with a couple of friends at their suggestion. The restaurant is clean and fancy with lovely table linens and soft background music. I like Indian food as long as its not too spicy. I had the Chicken Korma which was delicious - very mild, as I like it. My friends ordered the Mulligatawny Soup and the Mixed Platter which they thoroughly enjoyed. Service was efficient and friendly. The menu was very interesting and I will return again to try something a little different. It was not too busy, so noise level was quiet enough for us to have good conversation throughout our meal. I placed an order today from Raja Fine Indian Cuisine. There were items missing from my order. When I called, initially, there was no offer of a solution. Then they called back and asked for my address as they were going to send a driver with the missing items. They called back again, to let me know that they asked another customer to deliver the items to my home. So they gave out my home address to a complete stranger. When I expressed my concern over this, they told me that it was okay because it was a friend of theirs. I'm floored at the complete irresponsilbity of this restaurant. I've been eating there in person for years, and their Stratford location before that. Always loved their food. This is the second time we've ordered delivery from them. and the second time that there have been missing items. The first time, there was only the offer of bringing my receipt and they would replace it next time. I was disappointed about the missing items tonight. But I'm outraged that they took it upon themselves to give out my home address to another customer. Never again. read more

Elegant and quiet atmosphere for a weekday lunch. I had the Chicken Korma, my fellow diners had the Beef Rogan Josh and Butter Chicken. Complimentary paratha, papadum and chutney was also served. For their excellent service and attention, glassware, tablecloth, food portion and complimentary appetizers provided, in my opinion Raja can safely increase their lunch menu prices since customers know they are getting a classy dining experience that isn't necessarily available in many places in K/W. I might be speaking out of turn and increasing the cost of lunch for all customers, but if folks want a longlasting establishment with excellent food and service, then we should at least pay the fair cost for it so they don't go out of business in 6 months. read more

Great indian restaurant in belmont village. They have a nice assortment of appetizers and entrees in their lunch buffet. I would recommend the tandoori chicken, butter chicken and chickpea curry. The most delicious Indian cuisine I have ever had in Waterloo region. My partner and I started with the samosa, which was perfectly spiced with a delicate flaky dough. Our mains were the chicken pasanda, chicken korma, and mator paneer. Every dish had a perfectly balanced flavor palette with fragrant spices and perfect temperature. I complimented my meal with a chai tea which to my delight was made from scratch, not bagged. The entire meal was a very enjoyable experience. The staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Decent. Staff were friendly and attentive, the environment nice and low-key for dining, and the food was yummy and served up in good time with a nice presentation. Appetizers were really good. Saag paneer was different than what I'm used to and not as spicy, but still satisfying, as were the beef rogan and lentil dish I also sampled. Really my only complaint is that we found a small bit of plastic in our saffron rice. We pointed it out and the staff was very apologetic. I came here Friday night and forgot to review them. As soon as we got in, the waiter was cleaning tables and greeted and seated us, almost immediately. I didn't order much and came here with a few people.. I ordered butter chicken and lamb biryani.. They were both good but I've had better butter chicken elsewhere but this one isn't bad.. it's not as creamy, it is more tomato based but still good. The mango lassi was very thick and good but it wasn't as cold.. 3 stars because the customer service and ambiance was lovely but the food wasn't nothing, for me to safely say I'll be back.. my friends ordered the beef vindaloo and they ordered it Extra Spicy and I tried a bit of my friends and I enjoyed it more than my meal (should of ordered the beef vindaloo because it was Very flavorful but without the Extra Spice, because it was Very Spicy). They kept asking if I wanted dessert, water anything.. which is good and than they served us ice cream (on the house) at the end. Lets start off with the price. This place is expen$ive. Fine Indian restaurants in Toronto/Mississauga/Brampton don't charge what these guys are charging. The food is also nothing to write home about. The quantity is not enough and does not justify the price thats being charged. No value for money at all. Much better Indian restaurants in the Cambridge area. Unless you have deep pockets and a small appetite, I'd stay away from this place. Hope the owners read this and realize that they can get away with such prices in their Stratford location where they can fleece the tourists & theatre crowd but this is not gonna work in the KW area. A friend and I dine regularly in the area but this was our first time at Raja. As an Indian food lover my anticipation was high. My initial thought was that the restaurant itself was lovely. It was clean and very nicely decorated. Light and airy with light gray tile floor and beautiful sheer window coverings, nice colour combinations and comfortable seating, (unlike some Indian restaurants that are dark and heavy with carpet and dark colours). parking is great in that area so there is never a problem there. It was the night before Mother's Day and my friend had tried a few other places and they were all booked. Raja had 2 other tables when we arrived and were 1/2 full when we left. A young woman came to our table and basically just handed us menus without any of the niceties that make for a special time out. Then a young man came to take our orders, again, none of that greeting conversation that makes one feel welcome and special. There was some confusion while I was ordering and, unfortunately, I received the wrong thing but the male server offered to make it right. The food was presented nicely in very nice little silver and gold bowls and the portions were generous. Much to my dismay, however, every main dish was floating in oil. All of the curries were so greasy that it took away from the flavours. Even the Naan was super greasy and I had to press it between the napkins it was served in. The Naan was not the fluffy absorbent bread I'm used to, it was flat and rather chewy. It didn't 'sop up' the curry as I like it to. I hate to say it but it was all a big disappointment. The serving staff, I"m sure are lovely people but for a new(er) food establishment I would have expected a little something more. More verbal interaction, more curiosity about what we needed and/or wanted. She didn't ask if we wanted drink refills or how anything was. The female server had on, if I recall correctly, jeans and a t-shirt or something equally as unimpressive. Raja is a lovely and classy place so a nice uniform or even a traditional Indian garb would have been more appropriate. It really feels like Raja missed the mark for my dining experience. Sadly it's highly unlikely that I will return. I wish them all the best but I really think they've got to work on a lot to do before they can expect to be turning people away on a night when they should have been packed. read more
