So I was in Waterloo for a week or so on work and got quickly bored with the cereals, salads and cold sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A quick browse in Google brought up New Delhi amongst the top searches and so I and a colleague decided to try the place. Ambience and welcome (5/5) The very first aspect that impresses when you enter the place is the ambience; its warm and relaxing and more importantly ever smiling pleasant demeanor of Mr.Gaurav (Who runs the place) makes you like the place instantly even before you have tasted the food :-) Friendliness of staff and customer service (5/5) The staff take the effort to ask about our spice tolerance which was important as I had a colleague who was not Indian but was curious about Indian food and I wanted to make sure the experience was worth it. To mention, I had ordered a take-away and one item in my order was left behind; I called up the place and Mr.Gaurav personally delivered the item to my hotel. That is a fine example of customer service I have experienced. Dishes ordered: Papdi chaat (5/5) The 1st item we had was the papdi chaat and it was amazing. The right mix of chutneys and flavors made it a delectable eat. Take a look at the picture. Droolworthy, aint it? Veg biryani (4/5) We ordered Veg biryani and from a taste point of view, it was very good. However, the biryani rice was a bit sticky and not separate as how basmati rice usually is; but that had no impact on the gastronomic experience :-) , we polished off the dish in no time Dahi bhalla (5/5) Now, I have had chaat at Lucknow, Amritsar, and Delhi itself, and I can say with authority that the dahi bhalla holds up well to its competition :-) Veg thali (5/5) Value for money I went again couple of days later for lunch and ordered their veg thali which comprises of a big naan, basmati rice, 2 veg dishes, kheer, raita, and some lettuce salad. This is a value for money deal. The portion is just perfect for a single person. Fun fact: They also stock Indian softdrinks such as Limca, Thums up :-) As desi as it can get. New Delhi also makes fresh Indian sweets and having tasted their Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai, and Kheer, I would highly recommend them as the go to place for Indian sweets during festivals. Price wise, I feel its reasonable. Not too expensive. Rightly priced. The one thing every desi misses is ghar ka khana. New Delhi was my go to place. Kudos to Mr.Gaurav for running such an amazing place. I hope to visit Canada again and will definitely visit New Delhi :-) To conclude: The place definitely lives up to its name... I first ate here when they opened a few years ago. I have had Indian food all my life, and that's saying a lot. Either it's been in authentic places in Scarborough, Mississauga, Brampton, Milton, dwtn Toronto, or Little India in the Coxwell/Gerrard area of East Toronto. I can understand small portions if this is buffet-style, or they are feeding those accustomed to limited meal access. But in a country like Canada, it is appalling, and disappointing. Instead of an experience, it is a let down, like a deflating balloon. What is needed, is for the entire staff, owner included to go to locations that have lines out the door, that sell out food while you are standing in line, and who accommodate the buying customer, so that they return, and not write a bad review. There are images of people with the caption, "do not serve these people" at eye level when you walk in. The only people who hang out there are customers, staff would be serving on the floor. Info like that should be posted at the booth where the host/hostess stands, or behind the sweets counter, for staff. Then large scale sign states no tax on sweets, oh but when asked, Rasmalai is not considered an Indian sweet, it is not stored in that location because it has to be refrigerated and so it's not considered a sweet. I was told on the phone that 3 pieces are served for $3.75 plus tax. If they could demonstrate consistency, they would know to add extra for smaller pieces to balance out the others. But its a numbers game for them, small portions high prices low quality. The best advice I can give the owners and staff: order every item on the menu at Silver Spoon in Milton: write down the price and portion sizes, daily deals, and the number of people buying. There is a reason they have 3 stores. Take the food home, have someone pull apart the ingredients and start over. There a multiple bad reviews on food quality for this restaurant on google, yelp, everywhere. They cant be all wrong and for years....years of negative reviews....a 3.8 rate is around 65%. The food is great and so is the service. I don't believe this restaurant is very popular but it definitely should be. Three of us ordered two curries and it was enough for us to enjoy a hearty meal unlike a few other restaurants in Waterloo. The breads deserve a special mention too - an all time favourite, "the garlic naan" was delicious! I felt the chef was trying to tell us that he wants us to eat, enjoy and come back to New Delhi Restaurant through his preparation. I think it is safe to say it is my new favourite Indian cuisine restaurant here in Waterloo. It doesn't hurt your pocket either because the prices are well within the range - unlike other restaurants who charge more but deliver less. I found the ambience to be lacking the oomph factor though, but the taste of the food compensated for it. A must try if you're craving some good old Indian food. read more

STALE FOOD WORST MANAGER They are serving I bet 3 days old food adding water to the left overs. We ordered dal for take away and got one which was watery, sour in taste and smelled bad. The manager was toooooooo rude. His attitude is bad than his stale food. When we called to raise a complain, he asked to bring the food next week to show him that it was not good as proof. Went here for a late lunch with my dad on a Sunday afternoon, ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb seekh kebab dish with some garlic naans. Everything was fresh and flavourful. The bathrooms were clean and well made which you don't see often in Indian restaurants, lol. Ha! Where to start! First off the manager was extremely rude and refused to serve to me (as a non binary) I took great offence! The food is bland, and they don't even serve drinks! How pitiful! The manager used vulgar language and was very loud in his "office" it was so bad I had to make my children wait outside. Kitchen seemed very unsanitary and food took for ever to be made. Went here a while back and had a combo platter and it was SOO GOOD!!!! I can't get over how tasty it was. Little to no grease too which blew my mind. The portions were great and the price was amazing. I am so happy they opened this place so close my house! I can't wait to go back!! read more

When I learned that a new Indian restaurant was opening up in this part of town I was really excited. Upon visiting this restaurant for the first time I wasn't disappointed! The staff at New Delhi was warm, welcoming and attentive. The prices are more than reasonable and the food exceeded my expectations! Everything we ordered was rich in flavour and pleasing in texture. The food served was hot and largely portioned. I feel like it's like a delicious home cooked meal. All of the food I ordered came mildly spicy, but there is an option to make your food spicier if you prefer. This was a nice option to have so I could really enjoy what I ordered comfortably. The restaurant looks quite small from the outside, but is huge on the inside. I would say could comfortably hold approx 70 people. The seating is comfortable and there is ample room for strollers and wheelchairs. The cleanliness is top notch, and there is an wheelchair accessible bathroom option. There is ample parking as well. They do take out and dine in, and is set up for buffet service (although we ordered from the menu). I highly recommend giving New Delhi a try - I will be returning absolutely! read more

A very BIG ZERO STAR. BEWARE if you order online. Very bad response from the restaurant when reporting a missing item on the order i placed through skipthedishes. they said "its my fault that i ordered in their restaurant and never to order again". "Hey Jerry, we admitted our mistake over the phone. I offered to keep your missing item on hold. You insisted I deliver. I told you twice I can't deliver hence I got Skip. You said you won't order again and got aggressive." I also can't come pick it up that's the reason i ordered on skipthedishes. When i paid money for delivery too, I have all the rights to ask you to deliver me because its your fault. My fault is ordering in your restaurant online. YOU are one in a million guy who wont get AGGRESSIVE when someone says you not to order in their restaurant and it is their fault to order online. read more

Love this place! My boyfriend and I come here a few times a month. I always get the butter chicken poutine (because fries are better than rice; fight me) and the bf likes the non-veg thaali special plate. I've also had the tikka masala which was decent, the chicken biryani which was good, and the pakora which was extremely salty. Prices are decent, the taste is great, and the food holds up the next day as leftovers. We always try to call ahead and order since it can be 15-25 minutes until the order is ready, but they don't always answer the phone. read more

Not impressed with the customer service that I received last night. Ordered several meals through skip the dishes and paid the delivery fees and everything. When I received the meal, 1/3 of what I ordered was missing. So I called hoping they would bring me the other 3rd of my order considering I already paid to have it delivered... nope, they offered a refund for that part of the meal, nothing else. Ended up having to drive all the way back to pick up the rest. Got there and have to wait another 15 min for them to make up the rest. You'd think maybe a discount, free meal or coupon would've made up for the wasted time and money having to drive all the way back and still wait. By the time I actually got to eat the other half of my meal it was cold. So frustrating. I've been going to this restaurant the past month and a bit because I enjoyed the food. But not anymore after this past experience... lame. Waste of time and money!! Found a better East Indian restaurant just down the road anyways. read more

This is the worst Indian restaurant I've ever been to! First I wasn't greeted and sat wandering aimlessly at the front. (Where they have no "please wait to be seated" signs or seats to wait close to the door) Then I had a young man who looked upset to have to get off his cell phone, to come around where they have the sweets, to help us. He barked at us when we asked about the buffet and didn't ask us about drinks. He looked extremely young; (13 to 15) and gave us some wrinkled napkins, 2 small tea spoons, 2 mismatching plates and 2 dirty plastic cups (kids size at that) with Luke warm tap water. Then when I ordered was when it all fell apart. I went to the bathroom only to find someone hadn't flushed the toilet and it stunk the whole bathroom out. (Seems as though they don't clean them very often, but when asked they assured "everyday mam") Then when I got back to the table we had chosen what we wanted (Indian Beer and Starter) and it took them almost 30 minutes, just to order. A young woman who spoke broken English came to the table without introducing herself in no uniform just a t-shirt and yoga pants and when asked about specials or suggestions or anything she just looked at us and smiled and continued to say "yes". We went with the samosas which we were told were made fresh in the kitchen but were CLEARLY frozen and extremely greasy. Then we chose the vegetable pakora which is CLEARLY just frozen california blend rolled in a batter when they assured me that the vegetables were fresh and EVERYTHING was fresh. Then we chose the lamb biryani which was the greasiest thing I've ever had it's some spices and rice mixed with curry not even the real thing! Then butter chicken which was served warm and bland. Very disappointing! We weren't told no rice or naan come with the dishes by the server so we had to order this after (basmati and garlic naan and butter naan and keema naan) and when we got them both butter and garlic naan were cold but keema was extremely hot. Took about 15 minutes just for the naan. Then we had the ice cream (vanilla) and they took the scoop out of this milky looking jug of (water I'm guessing) and then scooped my ice cream with it! When I asked to have it taken off bill and I didn't want it, she took it from me BUT KEPT IT ON THE BILL!! I also had 2 beers extra on my bill that we didn't have and something called "OPEN FOOD" but couldn't be explained on the phone after by anyone!! This place IS A SCAM!! They are a new restaurant trying to sell HALF ASSED FOOD to make a buck!! The lady who I spoke with a couple days after with the blonde hair who refused to give me her name (which I later found out from getting my husband to call and ask to speak to an owner about a wonderful experience, WAS JANETTE) If I could give this place zero stars I would!! PLEASE, if you value your time, money, or health DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT!!! (******the salt and pepper shakers and the daily specials on table were all sticky and there were curry stains on the table and sugar packs stuck in the booths) NO CHILDRENS MENU OR CRAYONS! and they were playing a show called "NAKED AND AFRAID" On the discovery channel with children in the restaurant!! The floors were sticky and the dish carts that are beside the buffet were just piling up to a point of toppling over!!! The sweets were NOT covered and needless to say the pictures I took during this experience will be sent to the health inspector to make sure this place is not as gross in the kitchen as it is outside! Also we went up to bar to ask about lassi and there were about 30 fruit flies circling the taps.. and one even was sitting in a mans beer that was sitting at the bar.
