Had their dinner buffet, which is $16.99. They also do lunch buffet for $11.50. There's about 12 dishes daily with good variety, served in hot trays. Pretty delicious, although I don't think I've had enough Indian food to tell apart quality. They have red tea on the side, as well as delicious Indian ice cream called Kulfi. Apparently they get pretty busy during weekday lunches due to nearby offices, but it isn't as bad on weekends. I am thoroughly impressed by their interior design. Beautiful and comfortable. Not a Classic form any angle. Order kingfisher beer from manu, they don't have. Got Cheetah. From manu so for masala vada. This was my very first experience of Indian cuisine and afterward I was hooked. This is a pretty small restaurant tucked away on a side street behind Conestoga Mall, so you can very easily pass by without knowing its there. It doesn't look like anything fancy, but what an experience this place was! I don't think I quite realized how spicy Indian food can get, but this experience certainly taught me well! What I really liked about this place is how they offer a buffet. While buffets can be very hit and miss, this one was a hit! As my first experience eating Indian food I very much appreciated being able to see what I was eating before I ate it. I left this place very excited about my experience and eager to tell my friends and family about it! It was not too long after that I was back with some family and friends for a birthday celebration. There were about 10 of us in our group that they were able to accommodate, though we made sure to get a reservation because of the small scale size of the restaurant. Another stand-out dining experience. I look forward to going back to Waterloo and returning to this place for another delicious meal! read more

I love Indian food. I've had some amazing homemade Indian cuisine. In general, I've rarely had Indian food restaurant that compared to homemade Indian food. From the outside, it looks like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I usually take this to be a good sign of quality food. Unfortunately, when I step in, the attention to interior decor, furnishings, and even the silverware is astonishing. The buffet has gleaming chrome, the kind that I usually see at 5 star hotel buffets. The table water is served in beautiful steel cylinder carafes. The cutlery was heavy, more befitting a major western food chain than a small indian corner resto. Again, unfortunately, the food was bowdlerized. The cooking staff are obviously capable of providing authentic Indian cuisine, but the clientele here can't handle real levels of spice and flavour. Most customers here were middle aged, upper middle class Waterloo crust probably associated with Blackberry in some way. Their hearts literally can't handle spice and salt, so everything here was watered down. It gave me a taste of India, a longing reminiscence of the old country, but planted firmly back in Waterloo. So sad. I could only bear eating one plate of their buffet before leaving. Indian food is like a bhangra dance, wild and mad yet ordered in its training and discipline. Filled with color and preparation. This was just indian-canadian food, bearing only the most superficial tendrils of attachment to the indian food I've had before. read more

Went here for my dad's birthday dinner after having tried some of the soup here at the farmer's market. Food just wasn't good, service was even worse. We tried many dishes , and only the best was tasty (crunchy dosa). All of our dishes came out at different times, 20 minutes between each, we had to remind the waiter about one of our dishes after waiting almost 45 minutes after the first dish came out (we were the only diners in the restaurant). Dishes were small but expensive-no rice or breads came with any of the dishes, but the prices were all high-teens. Sauces tasted like jarred ones I could buy at Superstore. Service was terrible-again, we were the only diners there and they seemed kind of annoyed with our presence, no one checked in with us at all during our meal. The waiter/owner suggested 3 pieces of chapati and 2 naan to go with our meal, the naan never came out, but they put in on the bill. When we brought it up with the woman running the cash, we was annoyed that we knew, and seemed even more annoyed when we were able to name all the dishes we ordered. When she finally redid the bill, she threw it at us. All around bad experience, disappointing afer that soup :( read more

I love Indian food, but this place was just very "meh" and a bit of a letdown. I left feeling that I could have cooked something tastier at home, and for much cheaper. Our waiter was a very nice and pleasant man, but I feel that he was overwhelmed serving the full restaurant by himself (it's not huge, but still). We had to get his attention for water a few times, and it took literally 20 minutes to even get water in the first place. We were only one of 2 other tables of people, so we were not impressed. We ordered the onion bajias to start, which were the best part of our meal, and we felt optimistic that things were looking up. I would absolutely recommend this as an appetizer if you do decide to visit. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. We ordered the butter chicken, asking our waiter if it was large enough to share (he said yes). The portion was so very small, I have no idea why our waiter said it was enough for two; it was very obvious that it wasn't. There were like 5 chunks of chicken sitting in some sauce. For nearly $14 you would think it would at least come with some naan or rice, but those cost extra, so we ordered some on the side. If we hadn't ordered the bajias, we definitely would have left hungry with the serving of butter chicken we ended up with. It was not very good either. Overall our experience really wasn't horrific or anything, but it also wasn't good. We ended up paying $40 after tip, which was shocking. This meal was not worth $40, as neither the food nor service were even slightly above average overall. read more

I recently moved from Guelph, where I frequented Diwa Indian. I was craving Indian, and had to trust Yelp reviews on where I should go. This place is just awful. Not just meh, but actually terrible. I could not finish my food (I had takeout). I ordered butter chicken, naan and white rice. The butter chicken just tasted weird, and was so salty. The white rice tasted like minute rice, and the naan at the grocery store was better than here. Not to mention, Indian food is never inexpensive - however, when it is good, I don't mind paying. Yes, I've had more authentic Indian Food, but I get why they have to Americanize their recipes - if they didn't, they'd go out of business. I think it's unfair, that one of the reviewers rated them poorly for not providing authentic while at the same suggesting their clientele, "Middle-Aged Blackberry" types were incapable of handling an authentic experience. The reviewer penalizes them for catering to their neighbourhood clientele, rather than the niche 'food snob' market? Nonsense. What Classic Indian does provide is a very good Indian Food experience for the rest of us. The buffet offers a variety of tasty options, and if you are looking for Authenticity - just ask them. They will happily prepare the dish to your liking. The owners are among the most friendly, service conscious, restaurateurs in the region. For example, the last time we went there for buffet, my wife told them about her gluten allergy. Not only did they prepare her a special bread, from scratch, the owner then walked her to each station of the buffet showing her which dishes were gluten free. I lived in UK for a long time and always visited one particular India Bangladesh restaurant for takeaway. After coming back to Canada, I never found an Indian restaurant that quite matched that kind of cooking and aromatic, rich, taste. Until Classic Indian Restaurant. Their onion bhajia (or bhaji) is not greasy or soaked in oil. And with yogourt to dip it's perfect. Their meat and vegetable curries each taste unique, and not like chain restaurants that take same generic sauce straight out of tin cans. Service is great, the restaurant is quiet, and there's always ample parking. Pappadums are fresh, but naan bread seems to taste store bought and microwaved. But the menu and authenticity of the food is still consistently good after 4-5 visits and takeaway orders. read more

When I came back from living in England, one of the things I missed the most was the local Bangladeshi-Indian takeaway shop. Nothing in Toronto could compare, and I forever turned away from the mediocre curry buffets that served large vats of sauce with no character or distinction. Art of good Indian food? It has to take the chef a long time to cook your meal because each order is individually prepared from scratch with real ingredients. I KNEW Classic Indian was going to be different the moment I saw "Onion Bhaji" on the menu.......if they knew what an onion bhaji was...I was already willing to believe their curries would be good before even tasting them! In the past I've tried their mild to spicy curry dishes from chicken to lamb to vegetarian. It tastes near-exact to the takeaway Indian I've had in England and really put me in a nostalgic place. Onion bhajis are deepfried but light, without horrific pockets of grease in the batter which is my worst fear. Samosa appetizers are good too, but I've never been a samosa fan anyway so I don't have anything too exciting to say. Cost: $86.00 not bad for Indian food and for what we ordered and the portions were enough to take some home. Ambience: Nice clean and quaint here. Maybe 10 to 12 tables. Positives: Really good food, clean and well worth the wait. Negatives: don't come here if you're in a hurry. May take longer if there were more people in the restaurant. They also have takeout as well to add to the time. On a Tuesday night we were in and out in about an hour twenty with one other table seated with 5 people. The samosas were excellent and came with Three different dips. Butter chicken was great with tender tikka chicken in a very good sauce. Ordered our dinner online, received confirmation that the restaurant received our order at 7:22pm. At 8:50pm I called the restaurant and simply asked how much longer it would be for delivery. The girl that answered the phone asked where I wanted delivery for.. I explained that I had put the order in over an hour and a half ago online. She then asked me if it was for heather? I said no, I don't know what or who heather is. She then asked me the same question 2 more times (all the while cutting me off so I couldn't tell her it was under the name Kevin) and when I gave her the same answer she hung up on me... It's is now 9:20pm and our dinner still is not here. If I could give them a zero star rating I would. ... We used to drive from London, ont to this restaurant since 2011. We truly enjoyed the food at that time. In May 2017, we went there to eat Dosas. We were shocked to see how bad the Dosas were. It felt like we were chewing on leather !!!. We are wondering what happened to the quality of food. It was a very nasty experience, as we went there to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. This is bland Indian food, sweetened and tamed for the Canadian palate. The buffet had a nice selection, and the decor is pleasant, but the food had no oomph to it. I guess if you want your Indian food to be devoid of chili or ginger or cilantro or really anything with a kick, you could come here, but there are definitely better Indian places in KW. read more
