I was excited to try this place. I was actually hungry. They have high star reviews and beautiful seating on the left side of the diner. The right side is normal seating. However, there was much left to be desired and I'm saying this even though I was hungry. It is a watered down inauthentic wrap if I ever ate one. Watered down, meaning it literally tastes like water. If you like lettuce, this is the place to go. You can also taste the cucumber water. The chicken was dry, not plentiful and I did not see the chicken cooking outside, so not sure how they make it. There's no hummus or garlic flavour. If you like salad inside a wrap, with water taste, this is it. It wasn't as savoury as I would have wanted it to be. We ordered 2 large chicken shawarma platters ($13.99), 2 large beef shawarma on the rocks ($9.99), and 1 large chicken shawarma on the rocks ($8.99) for 8 people (takeout). You read that right, we fed 8 people with 5 meals. I regret not taking pictures of what we ordered. When we're talking strictly value, I feel like the large 'on the rocks' is so much better value as you essentially get the same amount of chicken and rice as the platter - the only thing you don't get is a small piece of pita and a side house salad, which is just okay anyway. The beef shawarma was rather dry, so I don't really recommend it either. The chicken shawarma though was juicy and had good flavor. Is it the best / most high-end shawarma I've ever had? This place is right next to my home, when I tried for the 1st time I was not sure, as its being cluse to my home I went there, the food is really really good. I stopped for lunch since I was in that area of town. Small family-owned restaurant. Very friendly service!! Big portions of delicious food!! I had the gyro platter with marinated mushrooms and salad as my 2 side choices but they platter also included rice and potatoes. It may last me for 3 meals! I also had a Turkish coffee, served on a tray, that was awesome. It brought back great memories of my trip to Turkey years ago. Decided to try this out after some Black Friday shopping at Fairview Park, since its otherwise usually out of the way for me. I was not disappointed! Although I chose to get takeout, I was struck by the homey feel of the place when I walked in from the cold -- and the delicious smells, of course! Ordered a chicken shawarma plate, which seems to be of good value: it comes with shawarma chicken on rice with two salads (I chose tabbouleh and a chickpea couscous salad), potatoes, hummus, some vegetables, and a piece of flatbread. The chicken is then smothered with garlic sauce and hot sauce. I asked for mine to be extra spicy, and in addition to lots of Sriracha, the lovely woman making my plate pulled out a different bottle of hot sauce out from under the counter, and I felt very respected. :D It was all very delicious; would definitely visit again! read more

It's a bit overpriced for what you get.. Poutine supreme was alright, some fries were soggy and they used shredded cheese not cheese curds. Ordered 2 platters as well and was disappointed that the rice tasted a lot like cinnamon. Also, platters didn't come with bread. First time I've heard of that... or they simply forgot it, but I got some hummus! But no pita to dip in the hummus. But for $11 or more they should have put the bread in. Otherwise, the kabobs taste great and decent size. But for $5 each they better be a decent size. read more

Got it home and the fries were totally uncooked( needed 5 more minutes in the fryer) and the sauces were gross and there was very little meat. Went back for lunch/take out and was lucky to get in just ahead of a group of 20 or so students. Nice to see them so busy. Opted for the Gyro - I am never quite sure if they are house made (layering all the meat could be a real challenge) but still very nice - great tzatziki, lots of fresh veggies. High quality shawarma! My boyfriend and I ate here last weekend (my second time and his first) both super impressed. He had the chicken tawook platter - you will not go hungry after eating this plate. The chicken had lots of flavour and the hummus was so creamy. I had the shawarma wrap - chicken was higher quality than most shawarma places in town, all other ingredients seemed really fresh. There are few good shawarmas places in the area, but 1001 Nights, is probably at the very top for taste and quality. Side dishes are excellent. Baba ghanoush is very different from any other I ever tried. It is bit of chunky, and eggplant is not smashed in to cream. It was so good that we took extra dish to take home. Unlike other shawarma places, chicken is not dried out and double cooked. Well worth visiting. Both of my kids like shawarma poutine. read more

Iv had Shawarma in so many different places. Mississauga, Toronto, Waterloo .. Iv even had Shawarma in Arabic countries such as Dubai, Lebanon and Syria. But I must say after experiencing this Restaurant for the third time. 1001 nights has got to have the worst Shawarma I have EVER put in my mouth. First of all I didn't appreciate being falsely advertised to. The restaurant has a sign by the main road of Homer Watson advertising $5.00 Shawarma. When I asked an employee about the special, she told me this was only available for the students. Why would you advertise something without specifically saying who it is available for, in other words this is called false advertising. The Shawarma at this place is honestly brutal, the meat is very dry and not seasoned at all really. The pita is also extremely small and the amount of meat put into the sandwich is very minimal. For a sandwich that cost $8.00, you're REALLY not getting your moneys worth. If you'd like an authentic taste of Shawarma, the closest you'll get is Mozy's Shawarma in Uptown Waterloo. Mozy's Shawarma doesn't even compare to this place, it's much better. The meat is not dry at Mozy's and they also have a regular sized pita bread, also the amount of meat they put into your sandwich is MUCH better. read more

Very very good place for shawarma plates. Got myself a plate to go, reasonably priced and they give generous portions. The customer service is also great. The lady working at the front has served me twice and is very sweet, always smiling. The place was very clean and there were seats to even dine in with a couple people.
