Last week we visited K1 Speed as a group of 7 for a party. We didn't meet the minimum requirement of 8 for a private event, but that doesn't qualify you for any type of savings, as is. I visited the Speedway may times before K1 Speed took over operations and I'm glad they did. The facilities have been somewhat remodeled and the technology improved greatly. Instead of a few staffers in dirty T-shirts roaming around, there's a full staff of skilled folk keeping the wheels of the machine greased. The karts are now electric, which is a huge improvement. Great response, near instant torque mitigates the weight of those of us in the 230lb category. The prices are high and they don't offer Enduro racing, but that doesn't limit the fun. Scores are reported online (when the system works) and you can track your improvements over time. There is one great detractor and will limit my attendance in the future. When we arrived we were told there would be a wait of 1:30-2:00 which is incredible considering races are less than 8 minutes long. We waited 1:15, which was the limit of our patience, but there's really no way of telling what things look like before you arrive. Calling ahead helps little because they want to direct you to automated options so I would suggest going during off times and weekdays to avoid a long wait. The price is pretty steep for an 8min race, but buying races in bulk ahead of time does help. It's a great place for kids to race, as long as they're over 48" high. read more

I'd give zero stars if it were an option. We planned a visit for our family, both Jr and Adult drivers. After researching different racing eshtablishments, we decided on K1 even though it was further. The reason we chose was because it clearly states that their were no reservations and they did Jr races until 8:00 p.m. We arrived at 6:15. Upon our arrival after waiting in line they casually informed us they were no longer doing Junior races for the evening, with a very passive sorry. We drove 40 minutes out of our way, left with crying children and basically a swift kick in the butt from the establishment. Clearly they need to make reservations and not use then"walkin" as a marketing scheme. Had we any idea, we would have gone to the other raceway and secured a time, but chose K1 because it was flexible with our schedule. Needless to say, we are not happy! Happy racing!! read more

I took the hubby here on a surprise with a Groupon. We had a really good time and hubby loved it. He loves to drive fast so this place was perfect for him. The first time I went around they were really good at keeping an eye on the track and making sure people were not blocking each other. The second time however they didn't do that and I ended up getting stuck behind someone for two laps who wouldn't let me pass. Other than that we had the perfect time here and had a lot of fun! First off, if your chief complaint is related to the accuracy of the timing system, you're an idiot. It's a family environment, not a nascar qualifier. The staff was polite and very nice to me and my 8 year old boy. The staff explained the rules and we're not overbearing as I thought they might be. The common area of the facility was nice, though the restrooms were not very nice. Plan ahead and avoid the crowds. We arrived at opening and only one other kid was there. Yes, it's kinda pricy, but I felt it was worth it based on the expression on my sons face. We'll be back again based on our experience. read more

Not a bad place to spend an evening at all. This was so much fun to partake in! The facility itself: the staff was awesome. They were knowledgable, friendly and liked their jobs, which is pretty rare for people these days. The place was neat, clean, fun and just had a great aura that kind of took me to the earlier days of professional indy racing. I also thought that it was kind of cool to have a food court inside. As for the actual activity: carts were properly maintained, the track was fun and never giving a dull moment and the event as a whole is just downright fun! VERY DISSAPOINTING. WILL NOT RETURN. We scheduled 2 races for a group of 8 boys for my son's 13th birthday. The party was scheduled right at opening on a Sunday, so we were one of the first to arrive. The first race was great! The boys all enjoyed themselves and we had no issues. As the second race began it seemed to get busier and the attendants running the track ran through the rules again VERY quickly and added a few new instructions then rushed them into the course. After a couple of laps they stopped the cars completely and walked over to my son's car to tell him to use his brakes on the turns. While I have no issues with them being concerned with safety, he was not racing any differently than the first race. After restarting the race he was using his brakes on the turns and all seemed to be good. However, a few laps later they stopped the cars again and then proceeded to walk out on the track and pull my son's car off. At first I assumed there was something wrong with the car and they were switching him. But then they came over and told us he was done and they would not allow him to race anymore. It was very shocking as I was watching the whole race and never noticed anything besides them asking him to use his brake while turning. They insisted that he was intentionally bumping into other cars. I did not see anything that he did that look intentional or concerning. While I understand safety is the upmost concern. I was very disappointed in how this was handled. We spent over $400 for his birthday and he was very upset and confused as to why they pulled him off. read more

First.. Ordered food took an hour half to get part of our order. Asked server about the rest said it was coming . Asked this 3 times same answer.. Served same food we ordered to other customers who ordered after us. Food never came. But got refund after 2 plus hours. 2nd. Bought the speed pass 2 races and t-shirt. No shirts in sizes xl or large. Waited hour and half for first race. Which was stopped most the time. Only got 1 lap of actual speed. Waited another hour to race again to find out, they didn't sign us up for the 2nd one. Then Employee gave us membership card which we should've got after paying. Said they would put on the list to race our 2nd which would be in another hour and half. After being there 3 an half hours. We left.. Poor service had a lot employees working no supervision or Manger... 1 lap no food for 200+ dollars.. 3 and half hours.. save your the money and headache. Avoid this location read more

Let me try to point out why its only a 1 star place. Been to some kart places before. So i thought this would be a good experience too. On arrival we need to register, computer is slow and can freeze sometimes. Then have to wait 30-60 minutes for the race. The food are pricey plus if you want a place to put your valuables you need to rent a locker. The locker is not pricey but if your paying 50 dollars for this place you would think you will have a secure place to put your items. Also let me warn you about the location it is out of nowhere, its hard to locate and in a shady part of the city. If you think these are the reasos why the place is only 1 star, you are mistaken. Okay, so why 1 star? Please keep reading. Each points correspond to issues they need to address. (1 star taken off each point). 1. 14 laps, it says on their websites 14 laps per race. When we got to the race, I was counting how many times I have run to the flag, not even 8 counts and the last lap flag was being waved. Thats horrible, half of the price just thrown out. 2. Theres no medic staff on the spot. The staff in the race dont even have any first aid medications. As a evidence let me tell you in my second run, I was stop due to a racer keep crashing in front of me, my cart become jammed and it can not reverse any longer. When i look at my finger it was bleeding, the staff who stop me from racing saw all of this happen. I mean they saw the teenager crash and evidently me crashing in front of her. We were only few seconds apart, there was no way i could have avoided her. When they took me out of the race, the staff didnt even try to check if iam okay or if iam injured, eventhough my knuckles were bleeding. Safety is first, even scare farm has a better medic station, when you can ride a mediocre cart upto 45 miles per hour ( website claims 45 miles per hour), there should be a medic on the spot, theres no excuse for that. 3. There's intructions how to operate their cart before the race. Maybe around 50 seconds of explanation of what not to do and what to do. Like no bumping. How to reverse, and so on. This would be nice if the instructions were given in a place where you actually hear the one whose giving the instructions. The guy was yelling since he gave instructions next to the racing track. He said no bumping once, and on the race you will be bump a million times. As the kids has no regards to the rules plus i bet they never heard anything the guy was saying. 4. I think this last on, point out the worst thing about this place. Yes, worse than safety, worse than not having your full laps, worse than prices, worse than instructions. When you first do your race you will start to learn that they can speed you up or lower your speed. Thats ok for safety issues, but then again this made me feel like someone is controlling me all the time. All i controll was the steering wheel. If i wanted bumper cars I would gone to metro mall or az millz or maybe dave and busters. Anyways you then feel like they want you to go faster more than they want you to slow down. Everytime you try to slow down and just enjoy the ride, the cart wil just start to accelerate in rapid motion. No matter how light you push the pedal, it will accelerate. If no one is controlling you then they are bad carts. Makes you feel like they just want the next batch of people to go on the race, we really felt like we were being rush whike disregarding every bit of respect we needed to enjoy this place. Overall with groupon coupons we spent 88 dolars plus 8 dollars of tax. Its 96 bucks. With the experienced we had, we would ask you people to buy 1 ticket only then experienced it before buying alot of races. It is not worth all the hassle that you have to deal just to get that rush. Then at the end of the day, if you for some reason bought and went to race, we hope you wont feel like you got ripped off. P.S the staff at the counter were nice. The staff at the race track seems to not care about anything but to just finish their hours. Management need to retrain this guys when it comes to being a customer representative, and give respect to each of the paying customers. read more

This was an epic fail for many reasons. Let me keep it short so this place doesn't continue to rob me of time. Go to Octane Raceway, its heads and shoulders above this place. 1. Really unorganized entrance if you have never been there, see number 2. 2. The employees across the board are incredibly rude, so if you don't know what your doing, have never been there or don't understand their complex pricing structure, good luck figuring it out. 3. You have to give the incredibly helpful gal at the counter the 3rd degree to find out how long it will be before you can ride. In this case, she said since we were 6 it would be 1:45. 4. They let the kids go every 2 races for the adults, which makes everything take longer. After some pretty hefty investigation helpful girl #1 said it was just the way it is and it doesnt make sense to her either. Guy at the carts said it was because the regular cars have to charge. Riiiiggght..They also let several other groups ride, and ride again and ride again. 5. Two hours and thirty minutes later, we started getting agitated and when we asked them about this discrepancy in time, they could have cared less. No apology, no acknowledgement, nothing. FAIL. 6. The bathrooms are disgusting, the games are few and far between to play during your eternity of a wait and they have no alcohol (Octane has alcohol, a rock wall, TONS of games and nice people.) read more

I've been here many times with my nieces and nephews and it is so fun with great service every time!

I'm pretty curious what their system is for estimating race times. The lady at the front desk (who wasn't the friendliest) told me that we would be racing in an hour to an hour and 10 minutes. 2 hours later we finally asked the guy running the races when we were due up because it had to be soon! Nope. 6 more races he told us. 6 more races, each averaging about 15 minutes if everything went smoothly. I'm no math major, but six races times 15 minutes (at the low end) gives me 1.5 hours. We had already waited two hours up to this point, so 2 hours + 1.5 hours, carry the one, gives me....3.5 hours. They expect us to wait 3.5 hours, 2.5 more than originally quoted, with no warning or indication that it would be this long. If they would've told me early on that I was going to wait 3.5 hours I would have gotten my refund a lot sooner instead of dicking around for 2 hours. This place was such a WASTE OF TIME. Ended up going to Golfland something or another in Mesa. Granted, the cars are not nearly as fast or as high tech as the ones at K1 speed, but three of us were able to race immediately, play mini golf, and play some arcade games all for about 1/3 of the price of getting 1 race each at K1. read more

Aimee W. I don't doubt your bad experience in the least! I've been to this track 2 times for teambuilders and each time the experience is unsatisfactory and usually hot - which explains the eau de helmet. I've experienced the long waits, rude employees, and lack of help for accidents. That is except for yelling at you for getting in one. The root cause for all problems in that track is that ridiculous hairpin turn just before the tunnel where your son got stuck. In and after that turn is where I've seen the most dangerous accidents in my 2 times there. They need to redesign the course and stop blaming their patrons for being idiots or in your son's case add in not braking and the fact that a K1 Speed employee put him in a car that wasn't suitable to him. Isn't it a K1 Speed employee the one who decides who can drive what car based on age/body size? How could it be your son's fault or yours? Hmmmm... It probably wouldn't be good for them if your son was injured since they admitted he wasn't in the right size car. I wasn't there to see your incident but I have seen them berate customers, friends and myself for being lousy drivers and getting tangled in that turn or just after in the tunnel. They can fix it or not. I don't care because I'll never go back and I won't be suggesting it for future teambuilders. I gotta try that Octane raceway now. I never knew it existed. read more

VERY poor customer service at the front desk. Had to ask staff managing the tracks for clear directions on exactly what to do. Karts were uncomfortable to drive, your hands tend to cramp up from turning the steering wheel. Not worth $90 for 3 people. read more

My son got to race 1 lap!!! My son got races for his birthday and we go to use one hes soooooo happy and excited. The first lap of the race some other kid (that looked too tall for juniors to begin with) slams into the wall his cart flys off the groubd. They straighten him and let them go they make it a half lap around and he crashes again into the same wall this time my son runs into him. There was NOTHING he could have done about it this kid couldnt drive. What do they do kick my son off stating policy!!! He was just driving and having fun. He didnt hit any walls, he wasnt driving erratically, he wasnt bumping. Some other kid caused an accident! Thanks for stealing the fun from a 7 year old child k1 thanks. HE CRIED THE WHOLE WAY HOME. They wouldnt even offer a refund or another race or anything he got 1 lap out of 13 and was kicked off for doing nothing wrong the worst part is their managers handling of it. He made my son feel like shit and like he had done something wrong and he wouldnt even attenpt to make it right for the sake of a 7 year old boy. read more

I went with (3) 14 years old the first time to race yesterday. Paid $150 for our 14 lap race. 2 employees raced with us turning our 14 laps in 6/8 laps. We were never explained that the race will end the moment the first person competed the 14 laps. They should NOT group a group of beginners with experienced drivers. EXPENSIVE place to end up getting 6 laps of the 14 purchased!!! We will NEVER be going back. This place is not recommended for beginners. What a waste of money!!!!! read more

This is a great place for some air-conditioned fun in this crazy desert we live in. Bored? Sick of movies, the mall, and arcades? Check out K1! This place is well organized - you arrive, register, wait for your name to be called, listen to a brief lecture on the rules of the raceway, and before you know it, you're behind the wheel of an electric racing kart whizzing around the track at speeds of up to 45 mph! They even give you a printout at the end to show how ranked compared to others in your race, and it keeps track of all your past races so you can see if your time is improving. The only down side to this place is it can get pretty busy. When I first arrived, I was quoted a 2 to 2.5 hour wait, so I decided to "reserve" a spot for a later time. Did a little shopping, had some dinner, got back 30 minutes before my race time, and my name was announced even earlier than expected. They say they don't really take reservations, but the nice ladies at the counter were helpful and basically let me reserve a spot for a later time. They alternate between adult races and junior races so you don't have to worry about running some poor little kid off the road. This place is good for novice and experienced races, but they don't group you according to level. If you're a novice, they will flag you to slow down so the other crazy racers can safely pass you. read more

The last time I went however they DENIED my friends last race because he had failed to recognize the flag being shown meant the end of the race, it was his first time so he was confused on what color flag meant what! I had a great experience with my son and his friends at this place. I was lucky enough to come at a time where we didn't have to wait long, and the kids hung out and played air hockey while we waited, anyway. The place is very clean and the energy is cool. Fun music, a cafe with snacks and pizza, and a neat lounge area where you can be comfortable while waiting. Once it was our turn, the guy doing the "training" was very knowledgeable and patient with the kids. He was friendly but also firm, ensuring the kiddos knew that this was not some free-for-all and still a pretty dangerous adventure. He helped the kids get helmets on and into the carts. From there, what can I say? A bunch of 10-year-old boys behind a wheel is nothing but awesome! They all had so much fun, and didn't care at all that they had to wait for the next kids' race. They were so into it by then, they were totally entertained just watching the other racers and keeping track of their times. There are a lot of negative reviews on here about waiting, but I don't know how else a business model like this would handle wait times. There are only so many carts you can have on a track, and yeah, it's fun so lots of people want to do it!! Great experience. We'll be back! read more

I would really recommend this place. It's about 20 bucks a race but worth it! We came on a Saturday, there was about a 50 minute wait which wasn't that bad. Once we were racing it was awesome, the cars are just fast enough, the coarse is just long enough and they give you comprehensive race stats that make you want to improve your lap time and keep coming back. I was really impressed, the place wasn't overrun with little kids like a laser tag joint or boomers, it was more professional feeling. Overall a great way to spend a few hours with friends, when you are done you are sweating and pumped with adrenaline. read more

We came here today with our 7 year old grandson and his Dad (our son). It was the first race for the grandson and he was super nervous. We had tried to get him to race a couple months ago but he'd backed out at the last minute, so we came on purpose during the slow time so he wouldn't be so intimidated. Still, even with no other junior racers here, he almost backed out again. But a couple of the guys who work here were so incredibly patient and encouraging that he finally got up the courage to try it. He went veeerrrry sloooowwwly. But then he liked it so much that he raced two more times, going faster each time. If it hadn't been for the very patient and good natured employees, today wouldn't have been a success. One guy in particular (didn't get his name) made all the difference in working with the grandson and his dad. Definitely a kid whisperer. We are very very grateful to everyone here!!! DO NOT GO HERE. My brakes failed and I crashed into a group of stalled drivers at full speed. I could not stop and literally ran over 2 other carts. Two of us were hurt. After the crash I told the staff several times that my brakes failed but no one seemed too concerned about it. No apologies. They gave me water and cold compresses for my injured neck and asked if I wanted to fill out paperwork. They refunded two unused races because I refused to return but did not give me a refund the first race which is the least they should have done. So all I have to show for this experience is one incomplete race and whiplash. read more

However the best part of my experience is the manager Stephen Fabela he is an amazing employee who informed us on the proper way to race the track and talked with us about professional kart racing. Terrible experience. Went here with my girlfriend, was attracted by a discount price they were offering. When we got there we found out there were a TON OF HIDDEN FEES that we had to pay (safety gear, safety training, gas, etc.). We ended up paying close to $100. Second point, the ENVIRONMENT IS NOT ATTRACTIVE, FUN, or FAMILY FRIENDLY. I was really disappointed, it's just some lines painted on the ground and bumpers inside of a rather barren warehouse. At least have it outside, or have some scenery to make it more interesting. Third point. When we finally got to the track we were told we could drive around for a good 15 minutes, that ended up being a BIG FAT LIE. Some go kart kid jumped on the track with us and lapped us several times. After about 7 minutes management said "that kid wins the race, everybody off the track". What the heck, we weren't there for a race!!! I expected more than 7 minutes for my $100. MANAGEMENT DIDN'T CARE AT ALL. Bottom line, this was a BIG WASTE OF TIME, EXPENSIVE, NOT FUN and in my opinion a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE read more

Clean facility and not terribly busy so you can get in but may not have a lot of competition to race against. The karts are electric - the say it's eco-friendly but its not nearly as fun as the gas powered karts. Hard to get to... if they are going to be there they should at least expand and make two tracks. read more

Do not have a kids birthday party here. The wait in between races and lack of activity without trained staff experienced in conducting a kids' party leaves a lot to be desired. For the amount of drive time you get the cost is not worth it. Too much down time without true alternative activities. Games were broken so that didn't help.
