Editing to add picture: I decided to try this salon twice because my regular technician was busy. After the first visit, I noticed my nails were unusually weak and a visible 'ridge' began to grow out, but I didn't immediately understand why. I only got regular nail polish, no gel, with My. During my second visit, I paid closer attention to her method and realized the issue. Despite the technician's 20 years of experience, her filing is very aggressive. She over-files the natural nail bed using both a manual and an electric file, and uses excessive amounts of acetone. Just a few days after the appointment, a dark pink ring started to form, showing exactly the difference between the healthy nail growing in and the weakened one. It will take months for my nails to recover from this thinning; they are paper-thin, bending easily, and peeling in layers. I was treated very nicely during my visit, so it pains me that I won't ever be able to come back. I suggest being very cautious if you value your natural nail health. read more

With nail/hair salons all along this stretch, I probably wouldn't have stopped here but so glad we did. I'm not really a "girly-girl" so i just get a basic pedicure in a nice massage chair. My girlfriend insisted I try a different treatment and upgraded me to the Jelly Pedicure...but i don't like anything jelly...boba...or chewy...OH??? for the foot bath?! say what? Tub filled with water and was asked if i wanted green tea or lavender....hmmm, green tea? thinking she was talking about a nice, hot beverage...nope, nail tech opens a packet of powder and pours into the tub of water....slowly the foot bath gels up... Friend: "it feels great right? its so relaxing!" Me: Hmmm...i dunno its sensory overload right now Friend: "just relax....you'll like it as it just pampers your feet" Me thinking: feels like my feet are in a bowl of Cream of Wheat (ala Nickolodeon show) After letting my overthinking turn off, I have to admit it was relaxing and enjoyable and wished they let you soak your feet longer! Overall, service was good at a fair price. Place is modern, clean, and just relaxing. Lynne, the nail tech did a great job and the only issue i have is there appointment scheduling. Same issue i had with another place where they fail to take down names and update their schedule when i called 2 days before to half hour later. There are soooo many nail salons to pick from in San Mateo. I have been on the endless journey to find a salon that I love and I am thrilled I found it at K Spa. There are many things I appreciate about K Spa- parking is easy, the salon is always spotlessly clean and the staff are warm and welcoming. "My" has been doing my nails every 3 weeks for almost a year and she is fantastic. I have very thin nails and she is always gentle, she NEVER rushes and always pays attention to every details. She does fun designs and has a great selection of polishes both gel and non gel. I always seem to get ingrown toe tails and they are painful! I know at K Spa the ingrown will be removed carefully and effectively. Some nail salons take HOURS but not here. I appreciate that I am in and out within an hour for a gel fill and pedicure. Where the duck do I start? Edited: this was on a Sunday Called at 3:35PM on a Sunday asking if they have time for 2 gel mani pedi. They replied saying 4pm. Great! Got there before 4PM, saw there were only two people working. The older lady doing the pedicure went back and forth in setting up the pedicure chair up and her client. She let the water run on my side and it was chilly lukewarm. Then she asked me if the water was good, I said no it's cold. Then she comes over and turns on the hot water and goes back to her client and not even 1 minute pass she asks if the water was good. I said yes and she immediately comes over and turns off the water. Wtf? I said yes but it wasn't even nicely warm yet. Got cold pretty quickly so i just took my feet out then decided against a gel pedicure. Asked for gel removal. Wow, definitely she was in a rush. I even asked her not to use the machine to remove the color because I don't want my nails thin. Yea she didn't hear me. I said excuse me then repeated myself then she defensively said "color only". No B you were also taking off more than the color on my big toe. She proceeds to my fingers to remove the gel, yup, bad wrap job. Then hesitantly she used a filer after the machine instead to remove the rest of my old gel color... So I can go on and on in exact moment and detail of what happened but you get the gist. She didn't get a damn and just wanted to get the job done as quickly. Not quality. Oh, did I mention. She dropped the brush part of the gel base coat on the floor, bend down to pick it up and shoved it back into the botttle? After all my nail pickings dropped on the floor as well? Yuck. I can't be making this up. Look at this nicely cleaned gel UV light. She didn't even ask if it's the color I wanted for sure or if the nails looked good after. Oh not to say my sister waited more than an hour to get her nails done. It started at 5PM... we got here at 3:55PM......... Ugh. No thanks. read more

Found this salon on yelp and soo glad I gave them a try. I did the jelly pedicure and gel pedicure. Everyone was so attentive to me. I was there for about an hour and a half. They have wonderful attention to detail when cleaning my toes and painting them. The massage was at least 20 and at the end was worth it alone. The jelly makes my skin so soft. Everything was reasonably priced. I will definitely be coming back and brining my family back with me. I can not recommend this place enough. The vibe in there was also so calm. Despite being the only two people in the salon, my sister and I were not able to sit together because I was getting acrylics and she wasn't. While this was slightly annoying, the real issue was the quality of the nails. I went in for a full set of acrylics and the results are disappointing. The length is inconsistent, the nails are slightly lumpy and at least one nail is uneven on the tip. She also filed them down significantly shorter than I had anticipated or asked for. I don't understand why they do not have a perfect 5 star review. They do not pressure anyone into upgrading whatsoever, they ask what you'd like... They show you the menu. It's your choice! I've come here several occasions and have always had a wonderful experience. The location is a breeze, I can charge my car while getting pampered. Walking distance to restaurants galore! I love that they offer several pedi options. The manager that runs this place is always very pleasant. They take their time here, they do not rush.
