We love this place so much! I crave the LA Korean ribs all of the time, but also love the Spicy Rice Cakes and their stews and bibimbap, especially the spicy squid. I'm drooling now. There are many other dishes we hope to try soon. The place is in a small strip mall at the end of a stoplight. Insight, they have a number of booths and serve yourself station for water and tea. It reminds me of eating at one of the many excellent LA eateries. We'd love to bring a group of people once its safer to go out in public. read more

We have been here twice for eat-in dinner, and ordered virtually half of the items on the menu. The highlight is it's one of the very few venues that offers purely just Korean food in North Shore. This area lags behind Boston when it comes to Asian cuisine. Many restaurants serve both sushi and Chinese food without acknowledging how distinctively different they are. With that as context, K restaurant is a step up. It offers an authentic Korean menu and nothing else, albeit a limited and small menu. Today we ordered vegetable pancakes and dumplings for appetizers. Spare ribs stew, spicy beef stew, Japchae and the quintessential bibimbap as main dishes. The spare ribs stew had more bones than meat and the broth lacked richness. The spicy beef stew had a nice flavor. Bibimbap had the most perfect fried egg and the bulgogi was well marinated. Japchae was perhaps my favorite as it was most flavorful and the veggies were perfectly sautéed. The stews came with a side dish of kimchi. What is lacking is the standard spread of small dishes called Banchan that are the trademarks of Korean cuisine. Don't cheapen out on the real Korean experience! The restaurant can seat no more than 20 people and closes early, 6:30PM, for a place that serves dinner. What makes the dine-in experience less desirable is that there's no restroom on-site. One has to go around the building, to the back of the restaurant to use the restroom which is easily mistaken for the back door to the pizza place. If you want authentic Korean food, my recommendation is to drive into Allston for a vast selection of far superior food and more comfortable venues. read more

Food used to be amazing. But as I suspected from my last visit, there's new management. My girlfriend and I loved the short ribs. They were plentiful, cooked to a sizzling glaze, with carnelized broccoli, carrots, and onions underneath. We'd always have leftover and we felt that this was really nice considering it was more than enough for two for around $26 or so. Now, the product is unrecognizable on just about every level. Not cooked as well, not as generous a portion, no more carrots or broccoli, onions were not carmelized, and it costs beyond $30 or so now. We were very disappointed, and haven't been back since. We also noticed our fried rice wasn't as good as well. We are now looking for a new Korean restaurant further away from home. read more

At least that's what motivated me to drive 20 minutes to go get takeout here. 40 minute round-trip voyage was well worth it. I called ahead with some questions and the lady that helped me was friendly, kind, and super helpful. I placed my order online even though she offered to take it over the phone and drove up and picked it up. We had a good sampling of several dishes, bibimbap, tofu soup, Spicy udon noodles, and dumplings. All of the dishes were phenomenal. Everything was spiced to perfection. The high star ratings here definitely fooled me. Unfortunately, my experience just fell a bit short. Let's start with the concept..... First, walk in and pick up a menu at the counter, Proceed to seat yourself at an available table, Look over the menu then place your order at the counter, Your dishes will be brought to your table once ready, When finished with your meal, leave the table as is, they will clear it for you, and you pay at the counter. Food... I opted for the Spicy Squid Bibimbap and BBQ Beef Bulgogi. Both dishes were decent. The rice was crisp very well in the hot stone pot. The squid was not as spicy as I hoped it to be. The miso soup that accompanied the dish was nothing to it. Basically lukewarm broth. The beef bulgogi was well marinated and pretty tender. It's also served with small cup of rice. Not an adequate amount considering how large the portion is. And extra charge for more. Overall... Everything was overpriced, especially for an establishment that doesn't offer a full dining experience. Like $14 for a rice bowl?!?! And a self service station for water and tea?!? I've now eaten here twice and both times met and exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love Korean food and it's such a tragedy that it is so hard to find on the north shore. I first heard about this place on yelp about a year ago and dashed over to check it out. The dukk bokki (rice cakes) were amazing. I find myself driving by this place quite often these days and yesterday I made the spontaneous decision to pick up some take-out. The woman on the phone was helpful (even though I didn't have a menu in front of me) to suggest the Pork Kimchi Stew and Beef Bibim Bap in addition to my (can't live without) rice cakes! The 10 minute drive from the restaurant back to my house was torturous as the smells wafted toward me tempting me with the deliciousness awaiting. I'm not sure which component of my meal was the most enticing in aroma, but the combination of them all was ridiculous! My husband and I both devoured our meals in no time. The restaurant was neat about their packaging of food (even with cute little subscript on the top of the Bibim Bap for "how Koreans eat this dish"). All serving sizes were plentiful and the flavors were spot-on. I also appreciated the recent renovation they have done in here since the last time I was in. I would call this place more of a take-out/pickup spot than a fine dining restaurant (sort of has a cafeteria style feel) but the food is non-negotiably well-prepared and amazing. This place you have to order and first and pay then they bring you the food. The bbq beef bibimbap was good. It tasted fresh and was tasty. The rice was nice and cripsy from the claypot. The Korean fried chicken was on point. The sauce was sweet and spicy at the same time. It was well balanced in tasted and had crispy skin. The pork ribs were on point. Perfectly marinated and fall off the bone meat. Service was fast and good. price was reasonable for the quality of food that you got in the amount of portions that are left over for you. This was my second time ordering from this local restaurant. Both times the food was very flavorful and filling. My most recent visit consisted of their bulgogi which was good but not the best I've had as it wasn't as sweet/aromatic. The spicy pork and kalbi were good as they were both flavorful, perfect to eat with the given white rice. The spicy squid had a ton, almost too much, sauce given in the container with lots of onion and vegetables. I like how the japchae has a little bit of gravy with the noodles and tasted delicious. Spicy pork bimimbap was also great, wished we could have had it out of the stone bowl to get those crispy edges. The fried chicken was also good, had a decent layer of batter around each piece. Each container was packed with food making up for their slightly higher price value. Everything was packed neatly and efficiently with plenty of sides and rice. We have ordered from here multiple times at this point; always consistent and reasonably quick. My girlfriend and I have ordered most things off of their menu and nothing has ever really disappointed. (The LA ribs were probably their least amazing dish we have had...that being said they were still very good IMO) The spice level is reasonable and wont kill you after eating larger quantities which is always nice. I will say that their spicy rice cake dish (while amazing fresh) does not reheat well at all the next day. The rice cake gets very tough and not very enjoyable to eat, but that's not their fault of course...its left overs. read more

I want something authentic, a little exotic, but overall delicious. This restaurant brings new cuisine to the north shore. I was impressed with my first order of khanpunggi chicken. I was also delighted with my last order of bulgogi beef with rice. I have only had one experience of bibimbap, and it was a culinary adventure of the hot earthenware bowl continuing to cook the rice held within it. Which was also filling by the way. I like going here once in a while, my wife doesn't like anything on the menu (if you read my reviews, you know she's the opposite of me) and so I'm going here by myself :/ No matter! This is my treat, something I enjoy by myself and with no one else. I'll sing the praises of K restaurant from the shores of Gloucester, to the rolling hills of Burlington! I like ordering from here and bringing it too work in Gloucester, my coworkers are fascinated by the gastronomical treasures I find. One coworker went here after seeing the japchae I had brought in, and had to order a dish herself. This is my new to go to Korean food. It's a small little joint, with probably enough seating for 20-25. The service was excellent. Free hot Korean corn tea!!! You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom, so you get to see the chef in the works. The cleanliness of the restaurant is very clean. We ordered the kim chi fried rice, L.A. short ribs and jjampong. The portion of the jjampong is very large. It's enough to fill 2 people. They are not cheap with the seafood in that dish. The Galbi portion was also large. The flavor of it was so delicious. The kim chi fried was good too. Very strong Kim chi flavored. This is so far the best Korean you'll get in the Boston/north shore area. Yummy, flavorful dishes made with love by a very sweet Korean family. The squid bibimbap I had was on point. I noticed this was on the top ten list of restaurants in my area. I've wanted to go here forever but one of my kids is very picky when it comes to food. Today she went out with Grandma so I suggested this restaurant to my husband and finally he said yes. This place is nothing fancy, basically just a hole in the wall next to a 7-11, but it looks fairly new and it is extremely clean. There was a line nearly out the door, and 3/4 of the people eating were Asian, so I took that as a very good sign. I think the reason there was such a line was because their system is a little confusing. I've read that restaurants in Korea don't usually have cashiers. You go up to a touch screen, put in your order, and they put it in a slot or window and you go up and get it. This is what it's sort of like here. There's a touch screen and you put in your order, then sit down and wait, but there's no sign explaining it. I think a bunch of people in line were confused, because I heard, 'Where is the cashier?' 'How do I order?' etc. There was one waitress serving everyone's meals and she was stopped several times because no one knew what to do. Well, finally it was our turn. We ordered the pan fried dumplings as a starter, and I ordered the japchae, which is Korean sweet potato noodles stir-fried with veggies and slices of pork. My husband ordered the bibimbap with bulgogi beef, which is steamed white rice topped with steamed spinach, Korean radish, bean sprouts, green squash, carrots, freshly grilled bulgogi beef and a sunny-side-up up egg. He ordered his egg over hard and also had a side of kimchi. I'm glad I ordered the starter because our meal took a while to be served. The pan fried dumplings came out crazy hot but they were really good. They sort of taste like fried spring rolls. When I got the Japchae, I thought it was really good. I didn't order it spicy, so I thought it was a little bland at first, but I put some soy sauce on it and it took it over the top to delicious. It's served on a small plate so I thought it wouldn't be enough, but I was stuffed when I was finished. It sort of tasted like really fresh, home made ramen. My husband's meal came out in a huge flaming hot stoneware bowl. I tried some and it was really good, sort of like fancy stir-fry. Even though it was a massive portion, he insisted on eating every last bite. Since he was using metal chopsticks, it took a very long time. He said the kimchi was the best he ever had. I had never had kimchi before so I tried it. It tastes like spicy cole slaw. It's definitely not for me, but at least he liked it. Always a fantastic place to get some Korean food if you're in the north shore. Going to Allston isn't worth the struggle but this place is definitely worth it if you're in the area. Dduk-bokki, spicy rice cakes, is decent but it definitely satisfies my cravings. The kkanpunggi or spicy fried chicken, isn't that great unfortunately, it reminds me of General Gao's chicken. I feel like all of their dolsot bibimbap, rice bowls in a stone pot, are all pretty great. It comes with a stone bowl that keeps your food hot with a variety of veggies and your choice of meat. The LA Galbi, Korean short ribs are delicious since the meat is pretty soft and easy to eat. Pro-tip, if you don't mix your rice at the bottom too well, you'll get a crispy layer of burnt rice on the bottom at the end of your meal. read more

K Restaurant has the most nondescript name, but since it's the only Korean food in the area, I suppose they can get away with it! Upon entering, ordering food on a screen at the front and getting water or tea from dispensers to the left is part of the self-service experience. The menu consists of basic Korean soups, noodles, BBQ and fried rice. Our food came quickly, and the soondubu was very flavorful with great silky tofu. The broth is more thin and not as rich as I've had it in other restaurants. In contrast, the japchae was heavy handed in the use of sesame oil and looked greasy. The taste was decent, but I can't imagine this being that good for your health. I would say Korean cafe more appropriately describes K Restaurant. They are set up to provide minimal service, but to execute that perfectly, they need to make sure all the customers potential needs are met. No one is really around to ask questions or to inform that the water stations were empty. It hard to get a staff member's attention since they only came out when food was served. read more
