Both were exactly what we needed after a long day. After dinner, we stayed for the wine and the company of Manuel. We had a relaxing evening of reflection and anticipation of the next few days on Berlin. All in all a really great experience!

After a few people couldn't help us, we found these two ladies who directed us to Altes Europa. We wanted traditional German food because we can get better ethnic food back at home. It's down a side street a little farther away from the hustle and bustle, and it was totally worth it. The prices were low given the quality you get. I ended up getting one of the of the most expensive specials they had on the chalkboard that day because it was still reasonably priced. I got asparagus because in the spring asparagus is king in Germany and Austria. It was totally delicious. I also got Apfelstrudel as a dessert and do not regret it. Some of the wait staff were a little distant, but the waiter we got was extremely helpful at explaining everything on the menu. We complimented him before we left. It was such a great meal, and it is totally what you need to have when you come for a visit to Germany.

The pig knuckle which was what I came for was excellent! Super tender and flavorful with unctuous fatty goodness. It paired excellent with mustard and a slightly sweet sauerkraut. Also tried their Hackethals lager which was very good a dark and slightly sweet caramelized lager and also a foussebasse (lemonade soda kind of drink). The apple streudel was ok, nice apple and pretty presentation, but flavor was just ok for me. Really pleasant dinner in a very cute pub and really excellent staff. Loved it! It was within walking distance from the hotel, and good reviews convinced us to give it a try. We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but they greeted us graciously and sat us for dinner. Food was outstanding, but that was only the beginning. After our meal of sausages followed by desert and accompanied with their own beer, we sat a while longer and met the owners Frank and Nils, and a couple of regulars, Andrea and Anton. Our night of a quick dinner turned into an evening of great conversation and drinks with new friends. This was a fantastic evening, made only better by Frank offering us taste tests of the sauce he was preparing for the next days venison. OUTSTANDING! DO NOT pass this up. 3.5 is pretty accurate. Came on a Sunday night pretty late around 9pm for a late dinner. When I…read morearrived the restaurant was about 50% full, mostly an older crowd. Overall meal was decent though service stood out more. It's pretty large inside, I think easily seating for 150 people in the main dining room and bar area. There's a larger area set apart in the back that looked like it could be booked separately for a larger function up to 100ish people. The interior was pretty traditional with dark wood tables, chairs and brown banquette seating, taupe walls and a mixture of art-deco-style chandeliers and lightbulbs for ceiling lighting. Upon walking inside, a bar is on the right and most of the seating toward the center and left. The waiter for the section I was in was very cordial, did everything very textbook in terms of asking for my drink and food orders, and checking in periodically. Appreciated the effort! To drink I had a beer (forgot exactly which but seem to remember it being something on tap and I enjoyed it. For food I got the Wiener Schnitzel €24 which is a deep friend breaded veal cutlet pounded thin which came over a potato salad; this seemed like a popular item. The serving size was pretty good, the crispness of the breading was just right and the veal wasn't too dry. Though after eating a full dish of this, it felt heavy, kinda needed some greens or other vegetables, and maybe something saucy, to break it up. They take cash and card, and accept reservations. Open 9am-11pm daily except holidays.

As an visitor from the U.S., I was craving authentic German cuisine on our first night in Berlin…read more Since our hotel was in the shopping district of Berlin, we had less than a 15-minute walk to get to Berlinchen. Upon arrival, we were asked where we wanted to sit, though we were advised that sitting outside was cooler than sitting inside. So we did just that. As they receive many tourists, they had the ingredients in English under each dish. Our server was friendly and showed us all the photos of the dishes on his iPad, which was helpful as we were not familiar with many of the dishes. He also let us know what items were not included on the menu and showed us the photos. We all ordered still water (in bottles), the Berliner Weisse, and beers. For myself, I ordered the Beef Gulasch with egg noodles (Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle). My husband ordered the giant currywurst with french fries (Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites). My parents ordered a salad and one of the non-menu special dishes that had pork loin, gulasch, bean sprouts, and mashed potatoes. The Rinder-Gulasch mit Pilzen & Spatzle had an enormous portion of egg noodles compared to the amount of the beef gulasch. However, since the gulasch was on the saltier side, eating the gulasch along with heaping amounts of the egg noodles helped balance out the taste. The beef was also tender and paired well with the texture of the egg noodle. The Berliner Currywurst XL mit Pommes frites was... interesting. I was expecting the currywurst to have a meaty texture, but when I bit into it, I found the texture spongey like tofu. If I was told the currywurst was vegan, I would have believed it. I think they should have included more of the sauce (ketchup) that came with it, but again, this is Germany, and you have to request and pay for anything extra here. My husband, who typically eats heavy, could not finish this plate as we were all sampling each other's food and he really liked my Rinder-Gulasch. When we come back to Berlin, we would love to try the other items on their menu. I highly recommend this place!

The cuisine was thoughtful, refined, and beautifully executed without feeling pretentious. Every course was balanced, flavorful, and showcased a level of technique that was immediately apparent. Portions lean toward the fine-dining side, so don't come expecting oversized plates, but what arrives is crafted with precision and purpose. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Traveling with two young children can sometimes be challenging in higher-end restaurants, yet the staff could not have been more gracious, welcoming, and accommodating. They struck that rare balance of being attentive without hovering and professional without feeling formal or stiff. The pacing of the meal was excellent, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the team genuinely seemed invested in making sure guests had a great experience. If you're looking for huge portions, this may not be your spot. If you're looking for exceptional food, polished service, and a memorable dining experience, it's absolutely worth a visit. One of the highlights of our trip and a restaurant I'd gladly return to. Highly recommended.

In most of Berlin experiences, people in customer service speak English, and they did and there were English menus as well. This is like German tapas. A little bit to try and order many of them. This is okay as a date with 2 people, but I would almost recommend getting 3-4 people together so you can try more. We had 3 in our party and we ordered a lot (me, my marathon running husband and teenage son :: so 2/3 of us eat a lot!). This restaurant is shotgun style, so I don't know how far back the actually establishment went. They offered to cafe tables outside and some entryway bar style seating. This place is definitely an experience over "just dinner". The food was a pleasure to see and eat.

The Brandenburg duck arrived looking like it knew exactly how good it was. Perfectly cooked, glistening, and confidently posed beside lush red cabbage, a tender dumpling, and a half caramelized apple that leaned in like it had a secret. One bite of the duck and--oh yes--succulent, rich, and finished with skin so perfectly crisp it crackled ever so slightly before melting away. Pure seduction on a plate. Our waiter was attentive in that smooth, unhurried way--patient and charming as I ordered in English, never rushing, always present at just the right moment. The kind of service that makes you linger longer than planned. The atmosphere? Romantic without trying too hard. Candlelit energy, soft murmurs, and the kind of elegance that invites close conversation and another glass of wine. Reservations after 6:00 pm are absolutely necessary--this place doesn't stay a secret for long. Lutter & Wegner doesn't just feed you... it flirts with you.

Came here for brunch about a month ago when the bf and I were in Berlin on vacation. We decided to…read morecome here because of its high ratings on Yelp. We got in just before noon, and we were glad we did because the place got completely full soon after we got seated. The menus were a little confusing as we don't speak any German and the menus had some English pages mixed in with the German pages (the little footnotes were what really confused me, but then I realized that they were using them as markers for different types of allergens). However, it didn't seem that hard to figure out as most of the offerings for brunch offered either cold cuts, cheese, vegetarian spreads, etc. with pastries and such. I opted for their normal sized vegetarian offering (you can ask for a vegan one also) along with coffee and a 20 mL cup of red currant juice. The bf got an order of their scrambled eggs with bacon, along with a 40 mL cup of orange juice. The vegetarian offering I got was amazing. There were a few different slices of cheese, 2 different types of savory spreads (one yogurt based, and the other was some sort of curried spread), and a bunch of fresh fruits. We got a very generous sized basket of bread to share, and it was just a perfect and somewhat light meal. The bf's eggs were delicious, and our juices were fresh and tasy as well. We could easily see why this place was so popular with the locals. Would definitely come back here if I ever happened to find myself in Berlin again.

While in Berlin, I stumbled across this place called Bastard through browsing reviews on Yelp, I…read moredecided to call in here not only because of the good reviews but the fact the place is called Bastard, which is a name which probably wouldn't be allowed in my home-country of the United Kingdom. This place is located in quite a rough area of Berlin, as I recall it was on the 248 bus route, yet buses in Berlin is a system I've struggled with mainly down to having so many stops without any proper signage for example one bus might go from one stop, another from another. This place isn't in a great location as I said, you can even find some graphiti on the walls as you go in to the small inside seating area. The menu was quite restrictive and authoritarian in the sense you couldn't personalise your dishes or tweak them, despite it being fresh food which was a shame and alongside the location, the major flaw of this place. For example, they had a meal with Fried eggs and other things which I didn't want, and they refused to just do fried eggs. I ordered Scrambled Eggs with Bacon, this was quite good quality and a much better breakfast than I could have had at my Hilton hotel in Berlin, but still I found the side dishes to go with it such as beans and the choice of that to be poor, they only had "fresh" bread, gluten bread, which didn't taste too great. I also was impressed with the range of fresh juices which were quite cheap at 2.40 euros each for 0.2L, I ordered a mixed juice as I recall it contained pumpkin and apple and a few other things, and I enjoyed it, albeit my first choice being a pear juice was sold out. The waitress seemed friendly enough but it was frustrating they had run out of products such as the pear juice and couldn't slightly amend their dishes and they didn't have gluten free bread. The place inside was small and really busy, it had an old-fashioned theme to it, it wasn't the nicest place in terms of décor, it is probably something one would expect to find in Manchester's Northern Quarter for example, which is my home town. The food and beverage mentioned was good quality, but the location and inability to slightly personalise your dish and the selection overall was quite poor. Was the food worth the wait to get a table and my trip to find it? I'd guess so, but still due to the major flaws I still feel Bastard doesn't deserve anything other a three star rating.
