Overall, JY kitchen was a tasty and very homey place to get Korean food. Upon entering, it appears as though the place was a refurbished home, and we were taken to a room with dining tables. It was nice, as we had the entire room to ourselves, and the owner frequently came in to check up on us with how the food was tasting. The food itself was very tasty. The meal was very filling. I had never been here before and I left very satisfied. It was delicious!! We came in for lunch. I got a seafood udon soup that was just amazing. They give you pickled radish that is just so good. I also tried the vegetable dumplings delicious. It was just one man running the place that I saw. He greeted us at the front and took us back into a little room. It's very clean and nice. We recently discovered JY Kitchen, although they've been in business since 2018. Sincerely, this small place is spectacularly good: everything we've had has been pretty much the best example of every such dish. The Beef Bulgogi, the Creamy Crab Egg Roll (basically their Crab Rangoon), the Spicy Pork (my gosh that sauce is exquisitely good!), and the list goes on. Even so, the Pancake with Shrimp and Zucchini just knocked us over. The very nice man (of the couple who have the place) tells you not to eat all you want of it, because then you won't be able to eat your entree dish lol (and he's quite right). He said to take the rest home and enjoy it for breakfast, which we did. He's very careful to communicate information about what you've ordered (or are planning to order), such as that it doesn't come spicy unless you want it spicy, and then if you do, he's careful to find out how spicy you want it, and then, after he brings it, he even tells you how many grams of hot spice they put into it (23 grams, for my Bulgogi, which was perfect but which could have been adjusted either way after that to really dial into what a person is comfortable with)! They make everything themselves, down to the miso soup and the amazing gochujang sauce (I've never had better and I'm pretty sure I never will). The wife is the chef, and I think she's a culinary genius (and have told her so). And they're both just so sweet and nice, and are very, very good at what they do. The place isn't fancy, and isn't even obvious as you drive down the street looking for it, but anyone who appreciates tasty authentic Korean food would be wise indeed to make it a point to experience JY Kitchen. Looking forward to trying the next thing on the menu when we go back (but we need to give them a break from us - we've been there about once a week for the last 3 weeks and we live 30 minutes away lol). read more

This was my first experience with JY restaurant. The GPS directions were spot on and I arrived to an almost full parking lot (always a good sign). I walked into a cheerful foyer and was greeted by a very nice gentleman who was happy to answer my questions about the menu.Per his recommendation I went with spicy pork and the beef bulgogi. Both dinners came with sticky rice, salad greens and miso soup. Included condiments were dressing for the salad as well as kimchi, pickled daikon radishes and carrots. Everything was packed with care for my trip home. I was very grateful and impressed with how well everything was packed up. All items arrived home in pristine condition. Definitely a hidden gem! Well worth a visit. True home cooking. The space was simple and structured in the style of a house, with a dining area within a smaller room. The Pancake with Shrimp and Zucchini was perfectly cooked. Just the right amount of crispiness and the flavors were excellent. I would highly recommend it as an appetizer option. This place was definitely Korean, and not some generic Asian smorgasbord, in both its menu and its vibe. Korean cuisine has this odd duality of being heavy on tofu and not vegetarian friendly, but this is one of the places that will make vegetarian versions of a fair number of its dishes. When I stopped in to order takeout (they were doing dine-in, though that didn't seem as popular), the menu in person was a bit different (and less clear) than the one online. Nonetheless, I found some veggie dumplings and japchae. My meal arrived with a variety of add-ons, including a miso soup, pickled daikon, and my noodles came with a side of white rice for some reason. Frankly, I would have preferred a larger portion of noodles, but I did like the noodles, which had a distinctive chewy texture, and came with plenty of vegetables and fried tofu. My dumplings were crisp as well, and had a bit of soy sauce for dipping. I got a pancake with stewed apples on it for dessert. The smell of sesame oil was definitely strong (not that I don't like sesame oil), but despite the variety what was missing was something spicy, and nowhere in my numerous accoutrements did I get any sweet chili paste. The apple pancake was nice, but I wondered if another dessert would have been better. I also rather wished they'd had some more dishes like soba noodles or dukbookki. While the options they did have weren't the best Korean I've ever had, it was definitely good enough to try again. read more

Best Korean food we've had in Lexington, hands down! The owner was very kind and provided excellent service. We started with the dumplings which were amazing. Then we had the Ramen, Bulgogi, and the spicy chicken with cheese. It was all well prepared and very tasty. The Napa cabbage kimchi was really good and wasn't too fishy or funky like I've had at some other places. The indoor dining is limited so please call ahead and reserve a table. This place is a true find. It's located in an industrial type setting. Don't expect signage designed by a national advertising agency. No. You walk into a gray one story building. However, once inside you are greeted with kindness and hospitality. You are seated in a simple dining room that has no trappings that transcend you to another place. My husband and I ate here with some Korean friends who said it was the best Korean food in Kentucky. It was absolutely delicious. We had the dumplings and vegetable pancakes for appetizers. Fantastic Korean food!! I ordered dinner while playing trivia at Pivot Brewing (also totally awesome) and it was delivered. The owner took our order while he was dropping off someone else's food. He was so sweet and patient with us even though you could tell he was a little hassled with so many people fighting to get his attention and place an order. The food came piping hot and SO DELICIOUS!!! I have never had Korean before and I am officially a fan. The dumplings were addictive and my bulgogi was so tasty. They are now open on Saturdays!! We arrived at around 11am with the front door locked and we thought that we had looked at the hours incorrectly. The owner came to the door and welcomed us in stating that she just added Saturday to the days they are open and feared that no one would come. Being that they are open only for lunch (they also cater) we decided to try a lot on their menu. We split the zucchini pancake which was tasty along with the chicken and cheese (friggin' awesome) and the go to dish, bulgogi. We also were given miso soup and several garnishes to go with our meal. You won't need to order an appetizer, but you definitely should!! This is a small mom and pop shop serving up healthy, delicious Korean food. They are open for lunch and dinner by reservation. We started with the shrimp pancake, which had a light batter with zucchini and was absolutely fabulous. Then we split the bulgogi and chicken and cheese dish. The flavors were absolutely superb! There was a salad with some dressing over which we put the bulgogi, which was really good. The dishes were also served with kimchi and another pickled veggie (but I don't know what it was). I like Korean food a lot. So I thought I would try this kitchen to see what the carry out hub could do. It exceeds. The owners keep the place immaculately clean. The non-descript building camouflages the existence of an outstanding chef with outstanding food. The pork bluglogi and the beef bluglogi soup were both outstanding. The dumplings were crunchy and filled with wonderfully seasoned pork. The taste and quality of the rice, which is a point most Asian restaurants overlook made the meal complete.
