I emailed the restaurant per the website's directives to request a reservation. Asked for 2 seats at the sushi bar on a specific date, at a specific time. The reply was timely and informed me that the sushi bar was "First come first serve basis. We do not take reservations for the sushi bar. Sorry" We took our chances and went on the night I had requested, at the time I had requested. When we arrived there were 3 empty seats at the sushi bar. We were told that the seats that were open were actually reserved for friends of the owner who were coming later. I have loved this place for years but the blatant lie in their reply to the very date and time I had requested for a reservation has permanently changed my "go to" choice for sushi in Lexington, Luckily, we are no longer a city with few options for good sushi. I will be patronizing other sushi restaurants that do not tell customers that the bar is "first come first serve" when they clearly do not keep to that practice. read more

Absolutely incredible service from teh moment we walked in the door! My sister and I decided to stop before a concert and loved every single thing we ordered. We started with the Moneky Avocado and Gyoza before moving on to the Caterpillar Roll and the Creamy Island Roll. I love sushi, so I was impressed with the several options for new combinations I'd never tried before. This is the best sushi restaurant in Lexington. Try the spider roll if you go. There are many vegan and vegetarian options too. The rooms are quiet enough so that conversations can happen. Service was excellent and they have a great happy hour. read more

So, just a heads up, Blue Sushi in Lexington is closed- looks like permanently. I had to Uber over to Sushi Blue. What a hidden gem! My server, Luck, was amazing! They actually have great selection of vegan and vegetarian...don't worry about missing that part of Blue Sushi. Sake selection is pretty darned good as well. I am not sure my pictures are half as good as usual...the new iPhone is meh. Try this place though!! read more

My fiancé and I went on a double date at Sushi Blue a few days ago and had a lovely time there! The restaurant has an intimate and cozy ambiance. They had some nice string lighting and dim overhead lights that made it feel romantic, great for a date night! The service was friendly and efficient as well, our server made sure to accommodate our friend who has celiacs and double checked with the chefs to make sure they could make proper gluten free rolls. We all enjoyed our rolls, the fish tasted fresh and the flavors of the rolls were delicious! Overall a lovely time, I look forward to coming back soon! read more

The sushi was really good, service was excellent, and atmosphere was perfect for a sushi restaurant. I would say the rolls were huge, so eating in one bite as you normally would was kind of impossible, not a complaint, just an observation. The part that brings my rating down would be that the chicken ramen tasted like a ramen packet that they added a few things to to make it seem like something good. If you aren't going to do ramen well, just don't include it on your menu. read more

Listen, I went to this restaurant tonight. I usually love this place as my late night sushi stop, tonight I tried something different. The teriyaki rice bowl. I ordered chicken and it was extremely dry. I sent it back in exchange for the shrimp. The second bowl while the shrimp was delicious, the rest of the bowl was unfortunately extremely burnt and inedible. I did mention this to the hose, who when I showed him the burnt potatos from the bowl, ate it. He then explained to me how stir fry is made, and that burnt food is to be expected. Honestly, I am shocked. I did mention that despite it being burnt everything was okay. But I am confused as to how this acceptable service behavior. However, the manager did take care of my bill when notified of the behavior and apologized. I hope staffing gets better. My server was great. read more

Enjoyed this place. Really laid back and low key. Love that they stay open late tik 2am. Sushi ess great Bostin roll and the fried pan shrimp dumpling were slamming. Warm and stylish environment. The most authentic Japanese in Central KY. We were privileged to have the manager/evening manger serve us. I was thrilled that this 20 something year old man we met there years ago. I even said a prayer that his dedication and expertise lead him to further opportunities in this industry. You would not think a place open till 2am in some off-the-beaten-path strip mall building in the middle of landlocked Kentucky has amazing sushi--yet Sushi Blue defies expectations and continues to go on existing anyways. Being here, especially late night, feels like being in the twilight zone, on the periphery of where dreams and reality kiss. The normal laws of physics and restaurants don't seem to work here as they normally do, yet it somehow ends up making for a surreal and wonderful dining experience all the same. Easily some of the best sushi available in the Lexington area, maybe even all of Kentucky (Michikusa is probably the only restaurant in Lexington that competes). Wonderful presentation, ambiance, and creative (albeit labyrinthine) menu. The service is always attentive and friendly, diverse, and full of energy. The salmon, yellowtail, and white tuna here are particularly fresh and high quality. Squid is pretty good too and I would say it is only beaten by Michikusa's and (maybe) Osaka's. What makes Sushi Blue really stand out among other sushi joints it that it's FUN and the creative presentation of the rolls and sushi plates puts other restaurants to shame. Great selection of imported sake and Japanese beer (including Orion--which you can't find elsewhere!), though I'd like to see them add local Void sake to their menu as well. The uni is very fresh *when* they have it. Toro is alright, but I think Michikusa has them beat on that end. Their signature cocktails are unique, flavorful, pretty, and fun--they use sake for most everything there since they don't carry liquor. Don't overlook the appetizers, either--they've got some great stuff, especially the Monkey Avocado, the gyoza and shumai, and the octopus and seaweed salads. The hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar) is one of the best things on the menu--highly recommend it as an appetizer. The ramen is not amazing, but it's probably the best you're going to find in Lexington--again, maybe next only to Michikusa's. Not to be confused with the nearby Blue Sushi, which is relatively subpar. read more

Um hello! Who has been keeping this place from me? The spicy tuna roll is actually spicy! So many places just have a wimpy little smackerel of it. This HURT (coming from someone who absolutely loves spicy). My boyfriend's spicy ramen also had a real kick to it. Do not be fooled by the ramen pictures, the cheese is hiding under the surface and there is always going to be some in every bite. The gyoza are excellent. They were crispy on the bottom, and the meat filling on the inside is superb! Our waitress was kind and attentive, and it wasn't too packed when we came! Have to give this place props for being open til 2am. Got done bowling with friends, which closes at 1am and went straight here. They took us in. I shared a bottle of fruity Sake with the group, and got 2 rolls myself. The 2 rolls were about $23 total. A friend got Heart Attack appetizer which I tried. Forget what my 3 friends got but everybody liked it, pretty good. Will def be back since they are open when other places aren't. read more

$50 sashimi deluxe.... Not what I expected for that price. This is just Super large cuts of the staples.... For $50 I expected a little better variety and some artisan ship. I have Zen sushi next to my hotel and decided to try something else... ‍ If you like American style super large cuts, go for it.... If your looking for more traditional cuts with variety and craftsmanship, stay away especially considering the $50 price tag... Great customer service. Quality was very good. I'd have to say I really wanted to like this place but it is not the best in Lexington. The first have to say the presentation was outstanding I give it a solid 3 and 1/2 Stars. There was way too much rice around the rolls. and while the texture of the sushi itself was quite good, the marriage of some of the flavors from the sauce was hit or miss. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and it was a nice place. The service was good. There are other places in Lexington to get just as good or better sushi for the price. Sushi Blue never disappoints-the staff are always so friendly! luckily have never had a wait when going-it's a smaller restaurant so it feels a little more intimate if you have a small group. And I must be honest and go with a generous three stars. I will start off by admitting, my favorite sushi is California roll. A sushi snob, I am not. I've had the California roll at practically every sushi place in Lexington. I will say, here was the worst rendition that I've had. Small and less than fresh. The brown spots in the avocado left me to question the freshness. As my meal, I had the chicken ramen. Not the best ramen I've had in town. The chicken was chewy... like it had been frozen and went straight from the freezer to the grill, into the soup. It wasn't good at all. I did like the cheese in ramen... that was a first. And the best part of my entire meal. Yep, cheese at a sushi place. The broth was also good and besides the chicken consistently, I would've enjoyed the ramen. read more

Usually when the craving for sushi hits I'm guilty of swinging by Good Foods & getting one of their ready-made rolls, but I'm so glad a friend and I decided to try Sushi Blue last night! The restaurant itself is located in a shopping center on Pasadena, but inside it has a really cool feel to it; with kind of modern-Asian decor & high ceilings. I started off with the always-classic orange ginger salad which was very tasty, and ordered the pasadena roll with brown rice. I was really happy to find that you can sub brown rice for white- I've never come across a sushi restaurant that will do this (at least in Lex). They also have low-sodium soy sauce if you ask the waitress. The roll was so good and was very filling. I definitely will be back to Sushi Blue! read more
