We had originally tried to eat at another asian joint in Winchester but got a refund due to the disgusting food, so we decided to give this place a try. It was a very nice atmosphere and we were seated almost immediately. Holy cow, this place is a hidden gem. We were in and out in like half an hour. I ordered medium rare filet mignon, shrimp, and rice, and let me tell you the steak just melted in my mouth like a steak is supposed to. It exceeded my expectations and then some. The portions are very generous with the price. We got two entrees, a beer, and a plate of sushi for under $50 and I was impressed by the quality of the food. It was the perfect hibachi without the show. I will never eat at another asian restaurant in Winchester UNLESS it is this place!!! Come here almost every weekend, never disappointed. Locally, hands down the best sushi and I order it all the time. It has never made me sick and it tastes super fresh. Their Gyoza appetizer is my favorite! The dipping broth/sauce with it is incredible. As for the hibachi, sometimes the chicken and steak can be a little overdone, but the salmon and scallops are top notch. Love their yum yum too! I couldn't recommend this place enough. read more

I'll throw a few things out there upfront, you are suppose to wait to be seated and it may take a couple of minutes for someone to approach you to be seated, since the waitresses who wait on the tables also seat people on top of handing out to-go orders. Talk about multitasking though! Those girls were phenomenal. It's located in Winchester, in the same plaza as Pebbles and Bargain Hunt. Close to the interstate and Lexington. It's more of an upscale restaurant than a carry out or delivery place. To-go orders... this is the brunt of my second thing to throw out upfront, a lot of people come in during peak times to pick up to-go orders. That seemed to be the obvious reason for slightly untimely kitchen results. I watched more people picking up to-go orders than walking out of the restaurant. THE BEEF HIBACHI THOUGH! Each of the hibachi options are super under priced, especially for the large portion that make up the meal. Each start with miso soup and salad. Both of which were fantastic. The fried rice, which also comes with each hibachi meal, can only be described as some of the best I've ever had. The beef strips were thin, lean and perfectly cooked. I'd love to try the sushi, but it will have to be in addition to the beef hibachi my permanent go to item here, but next time I'll be prepared to indulge in a lot of food. read more

This was the best Japanese we have had in a long time! The filet, chicken, shrimp, and salmon were cooked perfectly. The salad and soup starters were great! The salad had a creamy ginger dressing and the soup wasn't overly salty like you get in a lot of Japanese restaurants. The only think I missed was the show! Had a Christmas Sushi with my friend Shanghai. We ordered some fried dumplings for starters. Then had a spicy ell roll and a Wildcat roll (spicy salmon). We washed it down with some plum wine and Kirin beer. The place was so empty, I will assume it was due to being Xmas day, but you never know. The tables and floor were really clean. The waitress was not the friendliest person I have ever met. The Suishi was good and came with a lil side salad. I would stop back in here again. read more

If I had to title this review I would call it "Well at least some of it is edible!" We had to pick up some items we ordered from Rural King and since mourning the loss of our beloved Hananoki Hibachi in Lex we have been trying many others. We were in Winchester and thought "what the heck... maybe we will find a diamond in the rough." We invited friends along... and arrived to find no traditional style family hibachi tables. Ok ... we can roll with it as long as the food is good. We ordered dumplings - Goza to start and they were ummmm chewy and crunchy if that makes any sense... and this is the where the chef's obvious love affair with green onion begins. There was more green onion in them than meat! Seriously. We then ordered entrees as did our friends. While ordering entrees we asked if they chef could make our fried rice "spicy" by adding Sriracha to our rice order (which was a fan favorite and regular occurrence for us at Hananoki) and the waitress said "He probably won't do that." .... uh ok. So then we asking if I could swap out an additional soup instead of salad... I don't do the salads with ginger... not my thing. She was VERY happy to tell us that she COULD handle that and would be happy to since she controlled the soup. Arriving, my two bowls of soup looking great, yet the chef's continued love affair with green onion was obvious. But the soup fell flat in taste... we added both soy and then dumpling sauce to make it palatable. Arrival of the food brings... MORE love affair with green onions as there was an equal ratio of green onion to rice in the fried rice. The waitress had hinted earlier that people often asked the chef to leave OUT the onion in the rice and I now know why... holy onions batman! Save the onion farmers, save the world! My steak was cooked to a tender medium (not med rare but at least it wasn't crunchy) but the chicken was cooked to a 100% well done, crunchy edges, leathery insides, and no amount of teriyaki sauce was going to cover that up. I can honestly say that I have not had a WORSE Hibachi meal ... ever. We will not be back :( Sorry Winchester. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Sushi was excellent and the chicken box was amazing. The chicken was so juicy and full of flavor. Service was extremely fast and the waitress made sure to take care of all our tables needs. My kids favorite part was the bottle of yum yum sauce they placed on the table. LOL. Service was good; one server for the whole dining room slowed things down a bit. Miso soup was weak and lukewarm. Not a lot on the menu as far as sushi; lots of "fried" stuff in the maki rolls. Minimal selection of sashimi. More items on the "to go" menu than the table menu. The tuna "Tartar" and "Da Bomb" aren't near as spectacular in person as the pics on this profile. Being a former restaurant manager I can be picky to say the least. NO complaints here! Service was impeccable! Friendly and attentive and great at multi tasking. The food was amazing. We had the chicken and shrimp combination which was perfectly cooked! Very comparable to miyako's in lex with a much better price! Soup salad drink and dinner for two under $30.00!! I love this place! The food is amazing. The staff is friendly. I always get the teriyaki chicken bento box, a gyoza (fried dumpling) side, and an order of the California roll made with soy paper wrap instead of seaweed, if you like spicy, ask for the sriracha hot sauce, good with salad and if you mix the sauce with yum yum sauce it makes a really tasty sauce for your rice, also the dumpling and spring roll wine sauce is good over rice and with sushi, try the Japanese soy beans called edamame, (you eat the beans inside only) and also you can't find them anywhere in Winchester, it's a real treat. It is a great addition to the community. Japanese food tastes a lot better than Chinese food and is a lot cleaner as well! And healthier for you. Great atmosphere, pretty good food. Especially for Winchester where my expectations are always quite a bit lower. This is the best food you're going to find in the city. The lunch special is very affordable. The rest of the time its a bit pricey and some of the serving sizes are small. But their sushi has never disappointed even when I was expecting it to.
