We've never dined in here; it's pretty casual and no-frills, but we've ordered sushi to go and it's been good. I will say the portions are small, so you'll need to order an extra roll or two. Everything has always been well-packed in our carryout orders, and they've been speedy and efficient. This is our go-to sushi spot in Georgetown. read more

In an effort to expand my lunch options in Georgetown, I stopped by OEC Japanese Express on Friday afternoon. If it wasn't for seeing previous reviews on Yelp, I would have continued to overlook this place! What a great 'hidden gem' in Georgetown! You can get take-out or dine-in. I originally planned to get take-out because I was just expecting a little building with a counter, but was surprised by the dining area with several booths and tables! So, I stayed. I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp lunch combo, which also comes with veggies and fried rice. Price? Just under $8 -- which is about how much you can expect to pay for lunch anywhere. After ordering, I sat at a table for about ten minutes before my hot, delicious lunch was brought to me. The shrimp was delicious, the veggies were scrumptious, and the rice was pretty good too. I've had better fried rice in other places, but I'm not complaining about this one. I was also given a bottle of yum-yum sauce. I didn't like it, but to be fair, I'm not a sauce person -- so my opinion is very biased. (FYI: I had a conversation with another diner who said it was a very good sauce.) I do wish there was a bit more of the shrimp in the platter, but the rice was more than enough! I brought the leftover rice home for a late-night snack the following evening. Still delicious, then! I'm psyched there is an affordable spot for lunch in Georgetown that isn't chicken, like everywhere else. I'm already excited to come back and try more options! read more

I stopped in here by accident while looking for a new place to dine. Being the Yelper that I am, I like to find and discover new places. This place is located beside the Gtown Kroger in the next little plaza. The place was very clean and not busy at the time which was perfect for me since I was just grabbing food to go. The lady took my order and popped into the back. She helped prepare the food. I ordered chicken hibachi with extra Yum yum sauce. It was really cheap and huge portions. I was really impressed. Located in the new Kroger area of Georgetown, this place is unlike any other in the area (that I know about). It reminds you of a takeout kind of place, but actually it's a hibachi kind of place. No, you can't see them making the hibachi and sushi items in front of you, like you do at your average hibachi Japanese steakhouses. But here, you pay a fraction of the cost. There is a menu overhead, but if you grab a paper/takeout menu at the counter, you will find more options and the pricing. Most of the sushi rolls are divided into 8 pieces and vary in prices. You can get the two roll special for $7.95 or the pick three for $9.95. There isn't much description of what each roll entails, so you have to know your stuff. I split the pick three and my choice was the crunch crab roll. I don't know much about sushi, so I wasn't sure what it turn out to be. It turned out tasty... the crab wasn't a piece of imitation crab, it was some sort of mixture concoction and it was topped if crispy crispers that I don't know the name of (told you that I don't know my sushi). I had to at least try a hibachi option and I decided to go with the scallop and shrimp option. It comes with a side salad that they give you while you wait the short time that it takes for your hibachi to be ready. Both the salad and the hibachi meal are served in Styrofoam to go like boxes... know that ahead of time and don't knock them for it. People who like their food items to be divided will appreciate that the meat option, fried rice and mixed vegetables are all divided.. at least mine option were. The scallops weren't the larger ones that you get at the hibachi steakhouses. The ones here are small scallops. I will say that for the extra few dollars to add the shrimp, was a bit of price hike. There were probably four shrimp... they were good though. No, it's not a Japanese steakhouse, but it's better than your average fast food takeout place. Georgetown is lucky to have it and I can see myself making the drive up from Lexington to come back. read more

I normally don't give 5 stars but I've been here multiple and had the same great experience consistently! The staff are always super friendly and helpful. The food is always good quality and good portion for the price. You go to the register and order and you have the choice of dining in or carrying out. After experiencing both I can say both are pleasant! The yum yum sauce is my favorite but it may not be for everyone. I prefer the chicken hibachi lunch portion, it does not come with a salad to be honest I normally don't have room. The sushi is of good quality and is reasonably priced. I went in with low expections and this place blew me away. The house salad was cold, crisp and refreshing. The dressing was outstanding. The little crab Rangoons were so good! The tempura shrimp was crispy and not over cooked. And the spring rolls were crunchy. The filling could use a little something, not sure what though, but was still good. Very expensive for small rolls, fried rice was nothing but rice (no sliced carrots or chives or anything, just rice), they charge extra for just about everything but soy sauce, tea water tasted like pool water, staff was unfriendly and robotic. I came to OEC on a Thursday afternoon for take out and it took them forever to make my food. I was not not to enthused on their "express" service. I walked in at 3:30pm and did not leave until 4:30. A man walked in after me ordered take out and he sat for 5 mins and got his!!!!! Like What type of service was that! So I got my butt up and asked them what was the hold up. So I had been getting these flyers in the mail and finally we had to go check it out! Nestled over by Kroger its in the new construction area over by Roosters. Very friendly upon entering. You order from an overhead menu and your drinks are self serve. Then they bring out your food as its prepared. Simple decor and the cost of the food is half the cost of your typical hibachi place because they cook it in the back. Will definitely be going back! read more

Going in, one needs to understand that this restaurant isn't like a nice hibachi grill restaurant. This is more on-the-go, so expect quality to reflect that style. The inside of the restaurant is bright and clean, however it felt very sterile. Little to no personality was reflected in the decor. Service was nice and the food was made quickly. I ordered a California Roll, and my fiance ordered teriyaki chicken. The California Roll was okay. I've definitely had better, but I've also had worse. For an express restaurant, the sushi was good. The teriyaki chicken was tasty, but the rice was a bit bland. Overall, this reminded me of cheap Chinese food, only Japanese. Nothing spectacular, it pales in comparison to nicer restaurants, but it works for what it is. I will most likely come back. read more

I was very excited to see the new OEC Japanese Express open. I love Japanese food. I stopped by after shopping at Kroger. The interior is modern looking and very clean. I ordered the miso soup, cucumber and avocado rolls to go. The miso soup was perfect, not overly salty. The sushi rolls were good and packaged in a cute container. My food was ready to go in 5 minutes. It made for a perfect lunch. I'll definitely be back. I'm eager to try the hibachi options. read more

We have a full Japanese Hibachi restaurant here n town that is very good. I have eaten there a number of times. OEC isn't anywhere near the full hibachi one, but, it was very good, for less than half the price of the other hibachi. I had the steak meal. I've had better, but the taste was good and in a sufficient amount. The grilled vegetables were the low point, but the fried rice was really good. The sauce they have was very tasty, too. For a Thursday night the place was packed. We think we will get our food to go next time so w can microwave it a bit as it could have been warmer. We will return! read more

I read the reviews before going this weekend & was very excited to give this a try. Once we went, however, I hate to say that I was a little disappointed. For one, when our food came out, mine had three long hairs in it. My husband took it back up to the counter & they quickly replaced it. When he asked if it was replaced, because it was so fast, the chef even went back & got the old meal with the hairs still in them to show him so I applaud them for quickly replacing our meal & even showing evidence that they'd done so. We both got the chicken hibatchi & felt the meat was a little dry. Other than that, the salads were very good & the dressing reminded me of what a full hibatchi experience serves with their salads. The rice & veggies were also very yummy & we got a giant tube of yum yum sauce (it says on the board extra yum yum sauce was extra but it wasn't!). I'm giving them a 3 for quickly replacing our food, showing evidence they'd done so to reassure us, & the other food items being good at a good price (half price of actual hibatchi). I'm hoping we came on an off night & our next experience will be better. read more

Sometimes you just need some hibachi but your bank account says no. If it's just to food you're craving and not the dinner show entertainment that accompanies hibachi then this place is for you. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with OEC Japanese Express. Ever since I moved down here, I've been fairly disappointed with cheap and quick Japanese offerings, but being from the West Coast I'll admit I was very lucky that the sushi and Seattle-style street teriyaki is abundant there. OEC is kind of my happy halfway point. The sushi is very cheap, though the cooks are still learning appropriate knife skills and rolling technique. They need practice as it's not the prettiest sushi out there, but as long as it doesn't fall apart as I eat it, I'm cool with it. (Have had a cucumber roll, spicy tuna and an avocado.) The miso is right on. I've had it with all three meals, though the first time was very hot temperature-wise. They seem to have figured this out and the two other times it was hot, but not scalding. The steak and chicken combination hibachi is pretty much exactly as I would expect for an express place. The chicken is chicken breast, which I personally think is the wrong cut, but the steak tastes rather like Seattle style teriyaki. The sauce could be thicker, but once again, that's a Seattle style thing. The vegetables are good, but a little too peppery for my taste. I feel it's pretty well priced for the area as well. The fried rice is exactly the same kind of fried rice I've had at Japanese restaurants around here. The orange sauce is good, though I think it's best to put it over the rice in moderation. While I had my fingers crossed that it would be like other Japanese take-out joints like the ones I know and love on the Coasts, I'll happily be returning often. It's clean, and service is prompt, which is a whole lot more than I can say for the service at Georgetown's other Japanese option. read more
