Where else to go to watch a sporting event with friends and family? Answer: nowhere other than just Jake's. Also an excellent live music venue. The food is satisfying but what's really impressive is the overall ambience. You can expect based upon the event to find all ages, all happy. A great place deserving of five stars read more

Planned our office holiday party and I'm sure, this is where we will have it again. Everything from the planning to the actual event was perfect! I called in to see if they can accomidate a party of 13-15 and at first it was iffy but Patty checked with the bar manger as well chef Alex and every one was willing to work something out for us. We were given 2 hours of open bar as well as a 4 course meal. Salad, your choice of house or ceasar. Pasta, Penne Vodka Entree, your choice of the following: Iron steak with a mushroom sauce Chicken Piccata Chicken Cacciatore Salmon Piccata The waitress was very attentive. Everything came out in a timely manner. Chef Alex also came out to check on us a few times. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The ambiance was also wonderful. Very warm and cozy. They put us in a back room which was well decorated and the light was dim. Christmas carols were playing in the back, it was wonderful! They put the tables together that way it was a large square table so everyone was able to see and speak to one another. Great job, Just Jakes! read more

Always a good time when you go to Jake's. Been coming here now for a year or two and each time there's something different to offer. I've been here on a Saturday night with a live band. Fun experience and a good crowd. I've been here on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon after Zog sporting activities and I've sat inside and outside. Outdoors, they have a cute set up where you can hang with friends and chill. I can't complain about a crowd, it always seems full but not over capacity. Food is also pretty good. I was here yesterday and got the steak fingers which were super good! The staff in all my experiences has been friendly. Sometimes when the back lot is full, it can be tricky to find a parking spot or if Jake's has a local event, you can't always get into the place so you are kind of pushed away. If you're in the Montclair area, definitely check out Just Jake's. read more

I came here for a holiday party. We had our own room in the back. There was a pour your own drink bar set up so I had a glass of Chardonnay. The appetizers were less than appetizing. I saw some chicken skewers with a teriyaki glaze, some fried jalapeño poppers and sliders with burgers and cheese and another choice of sliders with some kind of steak. I had a bite of a slider and a bite of the skewer but they weren't that great. The party hosts ordered the food so maybe it would have been better if I would have been able to order something off the menu that I chose myself. I would have ordered a salad and a grilled type of chicken or burger. The bar area looked like it's a fun place to hand out with friends. read more

It kind of smells here. Also it was completely empty on Fourth of July and the bouncer tried to charge us a cover. When we refused they tried to charge us 5 for a group of 5.... Kind of trashy. read more

6/30/2023 My friend and I went to Just Jakes last night to celebrate her Birthday and was upset by the poor customer service we received, after driving on a journey to get there... riding around to find a park, Arrived with Mass Confusion at the Door. It was our first time there, I mentioned I called to see if reservations had to be made and was told No, the woman did not mention her name when I called, the Rude Hostess ask me who did I speak to? I told her the woman who answered the phone didn't mention her name (Which she should have done) #PhoneManners we were told we could not order food in the front area and the Rude Hostess escorted us to an ISOLATED AREA way in the back past the bathrooms for us to order food, NObody else was in that area ‍NoT ONE person ‍‍ SMH!!! We refused to sit back there alone, I ask the Rude Hostess why we can't sit inside (near the middle or even at the bar??? she said Oh yeah, we could sit at the bar AFTER I had to ask, the Rude Hostess should have given us all options... NOT try to put us in the back alone I'm baffled WHY she would even take us back there??? my friend the Birthday Girl was upset about How we were being treated, so I suggested we Leave because being at Just Jakes that moment we felt Discriminated against we will Never go there again!!! #BadVibes #UnProfessional #PoorCustomerService #DoNotIsoLateMe #ProudBlackWomen read more

I came here for happy hour back in June and this is a decent place overall. The bar area is pretty big and can accommodate a good amount of people. They have a variety of good beers on tap and the service was fairly prompt (it wasn't a busy night overall). Parking is a bit tricky, but there's a paid lot behind the bar if you're lucky to find a spot there. I tried some nachos with my brews and they were okay, but nothing great. It's a decent bar overall and I'd stop by again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

I went on a Friday around 8pm and it was pretty early. We got there right before the rush or after the rush. I"m not entirely sure. There was a live band that played 90s cover songs so we paid an $8 cover (didn't expect it, didn't really mind it, but probably would've wanted a heads up beforehand. Probably also why the bar wasn't that full when we got there). From the drunken haze, I remember the service was very patient and friendly. They made sure we were helped right away and constantly came back to clear the tables and make sure that we were all set. The beer was pretty cheap and we got a lot of it. Food was meh. I got gravy fries which were pretty decent, but those are kind of hard to mess up so I wasn't expecting much. My friend ordered teriyaki chicken or something and it was just covered in sauce and not marinated. The chicken itself was pretty dry. Wouldn't order that again. Otherwise, we had a blast and my friends and I had a great time. :) read more

I came here last night with some friends for drinks and it was okay. Drinks are really cheap on Thursdays (3 beers for $5) but there weren't many people and it cleared out by about 12:30. There are a lot of TVs, and sports games are usually on. I've been here a few times, and I've always had an okay time. Last summer I came a few times for trivia, which was great! There were $2 pints of almost every beer, and the trivia was really challenging. I hope to come back for trivia this summer! read more

Review is for Kenny, an awesome bartender and human being! Good place to grab drinks/apps, usually hang out and watch the start of bands on friday/saturday night every so often, we generally head out once the college crowd starts showing up. Crowd is definitely dependent on the band that's playing and weather or not college is on break, cool spot, good beer selection, fair prices, and it's clean. If you sit at the bar try to get a seat by Kenny! read more

We found Just Jake's thorough Restaurant.com a while back. I have to admit the place surprised me. When you arrive you enter the bar and must walk through the bar to get to the dining room. So I guess I was expecting your standard bar fare But entering the dining room is like entering another world. The dining area is to the rear of the establishment and is pretty much completely isolated from the bar itself. While some sound form the bar gets through, it is at a level that is tolerable and even dismissible. One can easily carry on a conversation sans raised voices. The food here is outstanding. I have tried a variety of dishes now and have yet to be served a bad meal. Their strip steak is excellent! The wait staff is friendly , attentive and fast and the prices moderate. They lost a star because they recently withdrew from the restaurant.com program and for us, removed the incentive to make the 30-40 minute drive to get there but when I'm in the area I definitely stop by. read more

Great place to hang out with friend's after a 'hard day's night'. I've been many times on a Friday night to grab food and drinks with friends and it's always a good time. The food and drinks are great (as well as strong :P). The service is a bit slow, so never go when you're starving. Other than that, this place is a great place to "just" hang and have a fun time. Also, during the summer, the seating area is a great place to soak up the sun, great weather, put on some shades and have a good time. read more

The 4-star is because Just Jakes is honest in its name-- it's literally "Just Jake's." If you want a beer, or need to pop in for a wind-down drink & munchies, this is your place. Old-time locals and you may see some of the college crowd in this bar. The bathroom is always clean and that's important! I've had really positive experiences at this bar. Decent drinks and food, and the prices are okay compared to some other bars in Montclair. Awesome bartenders, with great personalities and service. It's not a fancy bar by any means.. great at being your go-to drop-in bar! read more

Pros: Great specials during the week including monday and thursday 3 for $5 beers, cheep drinks, plenty of room Cons: $7 cover on saturday nights, bar is understaffed, staff are kind of unfriendly, college bar, college beer pong tournament nights, $10 min on credit cards! read more

The Good: Perfect dive bar with cheap beers and proper shots Great bartenders and friendly staff Games a plenty -perfect Sunday football spot. The Bad: Expect a dive bar with dive bar food, dive bar clientele and dive bar prices and you won't find anything bad about this place. I would recommend this bar for people wanting a laid back night of drinking. Their long island iced teas are really good for the price! But, I will say I ordered the turkey burger and got food poisoning. My friend and I got the same drink and shared truffle fries only thing different was I got the turkey burger. Be cautious when it comes to the food. read more

If Friday rolls around and you haven't had the time to make those wonderful kickoff to your weekend plans, GO TO JUST JAKE'S! Every friday they have a live cover band and it's the perfect atmosphere to let loose, enjoy the music, and grab some drinks. They also offer different drink specials throughout the week and have an outside patio thats nice for the warmer nights. I know I have definitely enjoyed some good times here especially with their $3.50 blue moons. They do have cheaper beer specials, but I'm just a blue moon fan! This is a place that all of my friends agree to go to and we can usually get a decent group coming. I am not a fan of their 7 dollar cover for the band, but I have sneaked by a few times =) read more

It's a little divey but the service was good and the food I ordered was good. I got the nachos. There was just the right amount of chili, cheese, tomatoes, guac, sour cream & olives. I was pleasantly surprised. read more

Interesting bar and venue. Mixed crowd. $8 cover on Friday. The bar is in a sort of odd shape and tables and chairs were left out during the band sets. Nice outdoor area. Cannot speak to food as we did not dine here. Staff was personable. read more

One of the only bars in Montclair is just what you think it is - rowdy college style bar with good services and lots of drink options. They have loud live music most nights as well if that's your thing. We were able to sit on the patio and enjoy a beer without much hassle from the crowd. Can't speak for the food. read more

I called a week in advance for a reservation, I get there they tell me they don't see my name written down so that's annoying. Second there drinks were terrible not good at all! If coming here stick to the beer menu. Food was ehh, Appetizers were decent. Where our table was it REEKED like garbage. Very appetizing while trying to enjoy a meal. Table was sticky you couldn't even touch it, but owner came over and brought us a tablecloth which was nice of him, also server was great! (only reason for 2 stars not 1) Felt like we were just thrown to sit somewhere to fit a party of 8 at a table for 4!! I called for a reservation for a reason, and it was just a mess the second we got there. Probably will not come back! read more

Came here a few times within the past few months. Nice place to catch up with friends over a few drinks. No official drink menu aside from their daily specials, so I guess the options are endless! They have some local bands play on weekend nights which is nice, but otherwise it's a very relaxed atmosphere. One odd thing, the first time I came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night, there was a cover charge of $5??? I'm not sure if that's a regular thing on weekends because I've only ever gone since on weekdays. But $5 for a cover for a bar in Montclair was just so weird! We didn't even end up going in. But anyways like I said, hasn't happened since. read more

Great bar for a mix of all ages and personalities. Highly recommended. Come on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 for 5! (3 beers for 5 bucks), or Mondays and Wednesdays for 4 dollar well drinks. Most importantly, ask for the head bartender and treat yourself to a 'Kenny Shot'. read more

3.5 They charge a cover (not sure if they do it every night or only on weekends). They have a decent variety of beer selection, an awesome outdoor seating, and a surprisingly good live band. Divey interior, mixed crowd.. this place is very reminiscnent of my college days. It's a pretty decent place for its suburban location. read more

Reasonable food prices, and yummy too! Totally in love with their chicken chimichurri, the wings, and every single salad they have. Really well rounded beer list with a plethora of bottles, cans, and drafts. Lots of local breweries on there! Plus 5 hour long happy hour, so, just Jakes is just yes read more

The only thing good about the place was the server. The food was mediocre at best. I sent my drink back because the juice tasted like it was going bad. They made me pay for it anyway. I have never experienced anything like that anywhere. The poor waitress was so embarrassed when she told me. Overall kinda sucked read more

Great bar, great food. The vibes in Jake's are good and fun, everyone is in high spirits. The food was very fresh and the portions were good. The alcohol list is very long with tons of options. The outside patio is very nice and dog friendly, also has TVs outside which is a nice touch! Great place to go for a quick bite and beer. read more

Sadly, I wasn't able to get into the bar to make a proper assessment. Im in NJ celebrating my 30th bday with my hometown friends. I'm giving 1 star for their customer service and accessibility. I'm a NJ native who moved to Texas and was told this bar is good. But, this location discriminated against out of state patrons and requires two forms of IDs. While I understand they want to cover this bases...they handled the situation very poorly. While traveling, it's irresponsible and dangerous to carry two forms of IDs on you because of you lose them both, you cannot get back home. It's probably a good bar, but until I'm a NJ native I will not be able to find out myself. I suggest this place invests in scanners so they don't isolate an entire class of people from getting in. read more

Great prices and the beer is always cold. The food is crud so don't bother. The pong game is run by people who practice all day on those tables, if it was your job you'd be the best too! Bouncers are awesome down to earth and very professional. Always feel safe and a good place to unwind and spend time with friends Whether it's just for an hour or the whole sports game this place ain't bad =) read more

My friends and I used to come here every week for trivia night. We had a consistent table, we knew the wait staff, etc. In the past year the place has really gone downhill while simultaneously trying to shed the dive bar image. We had to stop going to trivia nights and the bar, in general, because the service was becoming increasingly terrible and slow. One week we waited over an hour and a half for a couple of sandwich, fries, and an appetizer. In the end, we did not have to pay because they "forgot" about the order. This happened the next week but we only waited an hour and the excuse was that it was busy. It is busy every Tuesday because it is trivia night. There is no surprise there. Have more wait staff or cooks on duty that night. The food is hit or miss. Recently it has been all miss. Do not order the humus ever. It will make you retch in disgust. The sandwiches and burgers come out cold. It is one big nasty mess. The redeeming attribute is that draft beers are cheap on Tuesdays but that is about it. read more

Solid sports bar. Great wings, decent drink prices. We had a group of 6 of us and the server kept the pitchers coming. We were there on trivia night, we didn't play but it seemed like everyone was having fun. The dude doing trivia was really boring though. He wasn't really selling the "this is a fun activity" thing too well. Just asked questions in a monotone manner. People seemed to enjoy themselves so I guess that's cool. read more

Tried to give them a hard time with intricate drinks, and boy did they deliver! On top of that their siracha wings with cilantro garlic mayo are completely out of this world.
