I dined in with some friends on my first visit here and loved the experience. Service was great, everything was fresh, and you could tell how good the quality of the food was. The thing is though, you gotta be careful with your choices. I got the PITMASTER, and as a bbq lover, it was better than anything I expected out of this place. However, my friend got the RUSTIC and said it bored her lol you really have to be careful because this place is kinda hit or miss with the mac and cheese flavors. Also, I would recommend getting the 1/2lb serving, unless you're a mac and cheese fanatic. I could only eat half of the 1lb serving and had to take the rest home. A friend got the boneless wings and made me jealous I didn't get some for myself. It had a great, crunchy breading despite being covered in sauce. They were also LARGE! Bigger than any boneless wings I've seen anywhere! Definitely worth trying if you dine in. I came back to try the regular wings since the boneless were so good. Unfortunately, I got the wings to-go on my next visit and they were very disappointing. They packed them in an aluminum container, so I think they kept cooking during my 20 minute drive home. By the time I got to eat them, they were over cooked and dry. I don't even remember what they tasted like because I forced myself to finish them. I really don't know why they would use aluminum packaging for wings, but I'm convinced that's the only reason my wings were bad. First time trying this place out. Not bad. I ordered the Chili Mac. I would like to have had more Fritos added (the descriptions say they add Fritos) but there wasn't much. I also ordered the side salad. Description said tomatoes and cucumbers. NO cucumbers at all, just lettuce and tomatoes. I asked for ranch salad dressing on the side, no salad dressing at all was included. Lettuce and tomato salad isn't good without salad dressing. I got more lettuce than I did Chili Mac. I have been going to Just Mac in the Heights for several years and the quality of the food has not changed. It is very good. The only thing that has changed is the interior ambiance, it is kinda boring. There use to be music playing, tv on the wall and a huge menu on the wall. So I called them today, NO ANSWER! so I had to drive 45 minutes on my lunch break to the restaurant to order my food and to all why my order was cancelled.When I asked The girl at the counter why nobody answered my calls, she told me the phone is broke (RED FLAG #1) So after explaining the inconvenience of me having to drive to see if they had what I wanted in stock and why my order was canceled, she told me all of the ingredients offered on DoorDash wasn't available. We came on a Friday afternoon 4ish or so. It wasn't busy at all a few dine in customers. We ordered the Buffalo Mac n cheese and bbq Mac n cheese (or brisket?) it was delicious!! A bit expensive but really good. The cashier was extremely friendly and could tell it was our first time there when we got there. The portions look small but they aren't! My family and I have been coming to Jus Mac for over a decade (close to 12 years or so). Taking that into consideration, creating this review makes me extremely sad. The food, itself, hasn't changed much over the years. I don't consider that a problem. It is still a good Mac with some nice variety. For years, though, they specialized in macaroni and cheese. And they were great at it. Now, though, they have diversified their menu to add sandwiches, wings, burgers, etc. I haven't tried any of the new items, so I can't speak to those. But, I can say that I honestly believe that taking their eye off of the prize that was mac and cheese has caused some major issues. Adding new items means that they felt the need to remove others...and that means some of the really interesting varieties of mac and cheese. For years, my wife ate a Mexican mac, my son ate the Homerun, and I ate the Cowboy. Mine was removed from the menu YEARS ago, and I found a couple of others that I liked. The others, not so much. Technically, the Mexican could almost be recreated using the add ons. But, today, they were out of avocado. Things happen, I can understand that to an extent. My son has no way to recreate his preferred dish. Along with a lot of other places, they have removed their soda fountain. Unlike other places, they are not filing drinks in the back, but are charging you for canned or bottled drinks. Ok. Not a problem. But, you want water? You have to buy bottled water...with their no cash policy. We used a credit card to order a bottle of water. Even with a working water fountain to fill up water cups. My son improvised (because he is as passive aggressive as I) and filled up a plastic to-go container with water from the fountain. The place used to be vibrant, and I've noticed some things being "run down" over the years, as expected. However, on this latest (and sadly, last) visit, the place was devoid of character. The tables have all been bolted to the floor, and an entire wall was completely blank. It used to be covered with news articles, their menu, and a television. Today, there are un-repaired holes from where things once were. It's just plain sad. I have received some AMAZING service at Jus Mac over the years and was expecting the same. Nope. The service was completely impersonal and cold. Their no cash policy is a joke, and feels shady. There were dirty tables when we walked in...and we were the only customers in the place when we arrived. It was pretty clear that they had time to clean up after previous customers, but chose not to do so. The music is unnervingly loud and is a bunch of techno remixes of 80s music. I dig 80s music. Leave it alone. I am really sad that this place, once enjoyed by my family (and we would drive 30 miles each way to get it) has fallen into the depths of "just another" restaurant. I feel that they are probably on their way out. I'll be sad to see them go...but only when I think of the memories that we made and NOT from this last experience.
